I'll suffer with my speed and performance if it means I can actually play my game, so freaking dumb.
At USD 220, the Expansion Card with 1 To isn't good enough for me.... Too bad we can't get 2 To for this price... it would have been a killer accessory !!
Yeah that seems like a terrible price. Idk why the series x doesnt have more memory. Has the same amount as my one x which is decent but not great. Especially with all the games on gamepass
FYI you can buy a pc external drive and format it on the xbox but the drive has to have photos on it first before you plug it into the xbox. Hopes this helps and saves you money. Cost me $60 for 2TB
just a quick note, none of the drives showcased in this video are HDD drives. they are all SSD. but i would imagine (for lack of research) that the expansion cards are m.2 SSDs which is why they’re faster and much much smaller. Solid state drives have been in most tech over the last 5 years. HDD was the cause for many red rings of death back in the day of the 360 and that was one of the first things to go with the newer xbox one
You forgot the BIGGEST THING ABOUT THE EXPANSION. You can NOT play Xbox Series Optimized games with a normal ssd since the games are Optimized for the expansion card.
The problem I have with Seagate is they notoriously fail especially when storage capacity reaches over 60%. My friend had the 4TB Seagate for Xbox One and lost ALL his games. He was so pissed off he bought a PS4. I have a 1TB WD My Passport that I am saving for emergencies. I currently use a 2TB WD My Passport that is 50% full that has performed flawlessly for my Xbox One X. I just bought a 5TB My Passport for under $100 and comes with a 3 year warranty. I can keep all my games- 55 currently on that and transfer to the 1TB internal as needed. They also make 6TB and up MY Book that are under $200. WD also makes the Black SSD external. WD claims it to be almost as fast as the velocity architecture Microsoft is using. These work on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series so it may be worth looking into.
The more capacity you upgrade, the more junk you will save to the new storage. It is like a dog chasing its tail. I am happy to use the original Xbox S as it is, 356GB usable storage. Focus on completing a game, uninstall and move on to next title.
That technology is really expensive at the moment and since it’s with a third party, Microsoft will have a tough time dropping the price in the near future
2:30. No smart set up. That blows so much heat from the top vent during hard core processing. I’ll put it on its side if all I had was a little cuddly space. Forget looking cool. I want my xbx running a cool and efficient as possible
I bought a 14TB HDD for storing games and playing old Xbox one and back compat games for about $180 and a $60 500 gb internal ssd with adapter to use for games I want fast loads but don’t need full speeds. Like games that are not enhanced yet
5:05 Why would you bother transferring games from internal memory to the expansion card or vice versa? Just play from the damn card! It should be zero for both movement speeds.
I'm wondering if the next XBox would have the same expansion bay(s) because if I spend a few hundred on one of these expansion cards, I want to be able to continue to use this.
Best for series x? Would be the expansion cards thats nvme and made for it. Other wise you will get many people saying "Hey i got this drive but it wont play all my X/S games
Updated info: mechanical drives(sATA to USB 3.1) are simply not fast enough for anything newer than 360. I get Xbox one level stutter with a 3.5” 4tb 7200. Solid state is your only option for the series S, which I’ve never been able to fit 12 games on the internal 500gb. A 2TB SSD is your best price per $$, and I wouldn’t go any lower than 2.5TB of storage for a XSS, and no less than 3TB for an XSX. Based on average game size of 120GB.
What is that actual point of transferring games from the internal to the expansion card? They both boot series x/s games, so you would literally never need to do that. Is it just to illustrate how fast it COULD be if you spend $220?
I bought this for my S. It's only inaccessible if you have the back away from you. I have my S sitting up, but sideways in a cooling system. That allows me to place it close to my TV, which is what I have hooked up to the Xbox, my gaming PC, and PS4 Pro.

Hey question would an a new xbox one sea gate model work with a series x|s, and also would it be able to transfer next gen games unlike a third party external drive.
I like the little 512 GB version that we got for our Series S the other day, but was disappointed that it had to be plugged in three times before the unit decided that it was available to use. I guess microsoft has gone from "Plug & Play" to "Plug & Plug & Plug & Play" in the past 12 years since I got my last PC.
So hes going recommend the external SSD but not mention that you can't play new optimized games from it? You can store them there but can play them from there you would have to transfer your games to internal every time.
Of the optimised games currently on series x/s, there are more of them that you actually CAN play from external drives than there are that you can't. Halo MCC, Ori, Rocket League, Football Manager, and a good few others all work perfectly fine, even from an external HDD. You also get the visual and frame rate upgrades and can use quick resume. All you lose are the improved load times. For the ones that don't work, it takes literally minutes to transfer them across when needed. From an HDD you can transfer 100GB across to the internal storage in less than 30 minutes.
You can download optimized games, but cant play them If you want extra space in xbox ,you can download them on external SSD,then when you will have free space on xbox ,easyly transfer them to xboxs ssd
You have to still install the upgrade for the game on your hard drive to use the x and s versions btw so yeahyou still have to buy one of these ones if you wanna play your new ones without reinstalling and upgrading it every time
Only thing that wasn't mentioned is that any game that is Series X|S optimised or only available on X|S will not play from external HDD / SSD will only play from the internal drive OR the dedicated " expansion" card so this answers alot people's questions yes Microsoft dreamed this up just to milk a additional wad of cash out of your pockets so for the interim I won't be bothering with the card as all my games are still xb one so those will run from HDD as they always have X card new games SSD for Ur fav xb one titles
So you’re telling me I can save almost $200, get double the storage, and all I have to do is wait 20 more minutes for a transfer that I’m gonna do at most twice a month? Sign me up
If you're not using the internal or expansion, you will only run the Xbox one version of the game and lose quick resume. Should be noted. New gen games won't run off of external ssds.
Wait....but isn't the next-gen optimized version of Cyberpunk for the X/S not yet available during the time of this video? It's still not available at the time of me writing this. He should mention that optimized games can only run off the internal drive, or memory card, because they'll make use of the Velocity tech in it. Making games load an impressive 0-10 seconds. And making great use of Quick Resume. Either way, he's not currently running the optimized version of Cyberpunk for the X/S.
Your HDD is too old, is it even usb 3? I bought Toshiba 4TB last year and my average transfer rate from PC to HDD is 1Gb per second (8 seconds per GB) so it takes 8 minutes to transfer cyberpunk.
Question, probably a stupid one; but if I only have 1 game installed in the internal Xbox series x SSD, would a seagate Xbox expansion memory card be beneficial any? Or would be a waste of money? I only really play 1 game 99% of the time (The Division 2) & I’ll keep 3 or 4 other games my son & others play on an external usb device.
They might be metal so you feel better about the price. There are no moving parts in those drives, unlike the older 5400/standard drives, so no heat generated.
What?! Do you know how heat is actually generated? The SSD memory chip runs at phenomenal speeds and frequencies so the amount of heat generated is huge. In fact the metal part is designed to conduct the heat and if you open it you'll find a lot of thermal past
I like that it goes in the back of the console..a little “Nit picky”..it’s discreet, small and works seamlessly with my series X..only con is the price..🤷🏾♂️
Well I got the expansion card for $129 second hand. I love it! I store all of my xbox; original, 360 and indie games on it. Also I was able a few Xbox ONE titles. I do hope PCs adapt expansion pack slots.
Did you happen to play Cyberpunk from HDD? I'm just wondering that in PC I encountered asset streaming problems when driving car fast from 2xWD raid0 HDD's. I moved my game install to SSD and all problems vanished. Just curious if Xbox suffers from same issues.
These are still 220 dollars for just 1tb i got my 8tb hdd for half that definitely not worth it unless prices drop. Personally was not impressed with the load times to convince me for just 1tb.
He completly missed the part where any games optimised for series s/x either straight won't run from any additional hard drive but the xbox sea gate one or will but the load times on launch and mid game are harendous. Best bett if your looking to play and store games comfortably and without having to transfer one to another to play a next gen optimised game id 100% opt for the seagate xbox specific hard drive there around 200 now
Too pricey. Buying this & the console isn't financially smart. Might as well buy a series x. I hope this doesn't affect the console how it affected the ps vita. They need to make cards smaller than 1tb or bring the price down below what the series x would cost you.
I think a Hard Drive for around 80$ for even a terabyte more with the 20min load time. Is way better than spending over 200$ on a 1TB "memory card". It is faster yes but it gives literally nothing else in return for more than double the price.
The fact that u can get a series s for same money as seagate expansion drive which will give u another controller and 500gb is unbelivable. Can i connect series x to series s via home network to connect to its 500gb harddrive? Also would give me a second console to play downstairs
Kind of a specific question: If I connect an external USB storage with installed Xbox One games to a Series X, will the console recognize the version and download the X Enhanced patch automatically or do I need to reinstall games like Gears 5 or the Master Chief Collection from scratch?
Xbox's nvme solution is the worse deal in gaming. Now that we can use the ps5's nvme expansion slot and can get a 1 tb drive for $150 and the xbox's drive is still $220
Can you play games directly off of the Microsoft SSD for $220 ? Or if you transfer a game to it do you have to transfer it back to the Xbox to play it ?

They really need cards with a higher storage capacity
Yes. There are listing for larger Xbox expansion cards coming soon. If you’re thinking for a SSD, please avoid the Western Digital 500GB D30. It’s super slow! Get an Samsung T7, fast read and write speeds.
I think the expansion card is my pick it has excellent speed.
Wow, your audio levels are all over the place! Tough to listen to.
It wouldn't even be hard to fix...
I needed this today.. Just got the series S.. Maxed out the memory in 4 games
Which games did max out for? And how big each were ?
COD WZ.. COD Cold War .. PUBG and MLB The Show
Same
Which one did you pick
Same here but buying the 1tb expansion pack doesn’t make any sense because for that money you could have bought a Series X (at least if it would be available). I guess transferring the games to an SSD or HDD does make more sense from a financial standpoint.
just got the SSD expansion card for Series X. amazing love it!
Just gotta wait for someone to make an adapter to us regular nvme ssds in the expansion card slot
I think there are nvme to USB adapters
@@igors_lol true but they would be limited to USB speed and be treated like an external hard drive
You can’t use any other card on series x but seagate ssd. If you want optimized gaming, then you can only store next gen games on the console or ssd expansion
I just got an external HDD Western Digital version and I can't download any new games to it, in fact, some even original Xbox one and 360 games won't download to it. That's super dumb to force you to upgrade your storage if it's capable of handling it all on the older systems.
You don't need 2tb worth of games on an ssd how many games are you gonna realistically play regularly
Seagate is the way to go...👍🏼 I bought mine before I even got my Series X...💯✔
"Metal like material"? It's literally metal.
The problem is now after you finished the campaign of a game, you keep it for online multiplayer for years eg destiny 2
$ 220 for a 1 TB? Microsoft and its anti-consumer policies, it would be enough to unlock the doors and use any fast external memory.
This is the average price for these ssd speeds, believe it or not😅
Instant Resume also works on cheap external HDD
They have to drop the price on that SSD, there's no way people will buy that
That technology is really expensive at the moment and since it’s with a third party, Microsoft will have a tough time dropping the price in the near future
Can I use both internal SSD and external drive the same time?
For me if it was 4TB+ it would be worth it.
The speed test was most helpful part of this video for me! Thanks.
So after paying $220 for a 1tb storage that the card is not even reversible just boggles my mind.
Right ?
Best for series x? Would be the expansion cards thats nvme and made for it. Other wise you will get many people saying "Hey i got this drive but it wont play all my X/S games
It would be interesting seeing the seagate hard drive compared to a proper cmr drive in this scenario as the drive is shingled
Your time tests completely answered my question. Thank you.
It's better then the ps5. They are stuck with like 600gb. That's like 2 cod games🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Jeez
Fr i have Xbox s and ps5 on ps5 I have cod cold war and warzone, I have zero clips, apps, or any other games, and I only have 40 gb left of storage 🙃
Funny but what good is a big refrigerator with no food 😂. Xbox series X BORING! Zero games and why less people on the planet buy it plus Xbox consoles are built like American cars they don't last long. I don't want to keep playing 3 game sequels every generation gears, halo, and Forza. Sucks to be you with that huge dust collector but hey you can play old bullshit games while missing out on tons of game of the years quality games. Makes sense 😂🤣🙄🤔
@@thedarksideoftheforce6658 as I fill my 4tb of storage running at 120 fps and still drive a Ford after 200,000 miles with no issues. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Lmaooo 😂😂
You have to advise people that you can't play the new games on the external SSD. Only Xbox One games hence the need to transfer.
Hey question would an a new xbox one sea gate model work with a series x|s, and also would it be able to transfer next gen games unlike a third party external drive.
Games that were made for Xbox one but got enhance updates for the Xbox series x are you able to use those enhance games on the HDD or SSD?
Looks really cool mate nice one Don have a great Christmas and your family don 🤠🇬🇧👍👍👍👍🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼
My SSD seagate for Xbox was $199 and it’s not even next gen.
At $220 for next gen SSD is a steal.
Lmfao
I like the little 512 GB version that we got for our Series S the other day, but was disappointed that it had to be plugged in three times before the unit decided that it was available to use. I guess microsoft has gone from "Plug & Play" to "Plug & Plug & Plug & Play" in the past 12 years since I got my last PC.
$299.99 CAD before tax. For that memory card. Almost the same price for the Series S. Which is at $425.59 🇨🇦
Cam you play a game through the external SSD or do you have to move it to the Series S to play it?
You can download optimized games, but cant play them
If you want extra space in xbox ,you can download them on external SSD,then when you will have free space on xbox ,easyly transfer them to xboxs ssd
It let me quick resume RDR2 form external SSD
Wait....but isn't the next-gen optimized version of Cyberpunk for the X/S not yet available during the time of this video? It's still not available at the time of me writing this.
He should mention that optimized games can only run off the internal drive, or memory card, because they'll make use of the Velocity tech in it. Making games load an impressive 0-10 seconds. And making great use of Quick Resume.
Either way, he's not currently running the optimized version of Cyberpunk for the X/S.
I can get a 4TB external hard drive for 110 bucks but a WD SSD is almost double the amount for 1TB definitely getting the external hard drive
Work faster using the 1tb card than a 4tb wired external. See it booting up when you first turn on your console is a lot quicker
I like that it goes in the back of the console..a little “Nit picky”..it’s discreet, small and works seamlessly with my series X..only con is the price..🤷🏾♂️
I prefer these ssd cards than nvme ram looking ssds. Hope we can make slots like these on our PCs
Seagate vs WD cards? Is there a meaningful difference?
Well I got the expansion card for $129 second hand. I love it! I store all of my xbox; original, 360 and indie games on it. Also I was able a few Xbox ONE titles.
I do hope PCs adapt expansion pack slots.
About how many games can you fit on the 1tb card?
@@babyboy1971 I've honestly lost count I have 22+ Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox one still haven maxed out,
U can Play on HDD. Series Optimized Games too. But with the arrow cyrcle Symbol u can Only save the game external.
Best bett if your looking to play and store games comfortably and without having to transfer one to another to play a next gen optimised game id 100% opt for the seagate xbox specific hard drive there around 200 now
Probably the best comparison i've seen, thank you so much.
Will this work with Xbox backbone? Will the phone have the storage saved on it too? Since the Xbox has all the games downloaded on the storage on it ?
Too pricey. Buying this & the console isn't financially smart. Might as well buy a series x. I hope this doesn't affect the console how it affected the ps vita. They need to make cards smaller than 1tb or bring the price down below what the series x would cost you.
I don’t know if this is good but I got a 2TB hhd for an Xbox for £60
It was a seagate portable one which wasn’t on offer
It would be worth it if they allowed you to store captured footage in these expansion cards 😡
When I run out of storage on my Series S, I'll either buy a Series X or the Seagate External HDD Game Drive 4TB one for only $120 on the Xbox Store.
You can't run next gem games on a hard drive
why do you have 2 different audio tracks that sounded so differently
My only wish was that there was at least two external SSD ports for the Xbox cards.
Tahnk you so much it helped me very much knowing the differents between hdd and SSD and choosing between them.
I think a Hard Drive for around 80$ for even a terabyte more with the 20min load time. Is way better than spending over 200$ on a 1TB "memory card". It is faster yes but it gives literally nothing else in return for more than double the price.
Except you can't run series games on a hard drive
Couldn’t you just buy a normal storage option and then just transfer games internal / external as you want to play them
how to transfer games between xbox and external ssd
also can I download them over a pc then copy them to my xbox ?
The fact that u can get a series s for same money as seagate expansion drive which will give u another controller and 500gb is unbelivable. Can i connect series x to series s via home network to connect to its 500gb harddrive? Also would give me a second console to play downstairs
Kind of a specific question: If I connect an external USB storage with installed Xbox One games to a Series X, will the console recognize the version and download the X Enhanced patch automatically or do I need to reinstall games like Gears 5 or the Master Chief Collection from scratch?
Can you play series s/X games off a SSD hard drive or is that only good for moving back and forth?
Would I see some differences for play r6/forzha like in game is the ssd is quicker?
Why did they make it only 2 terabyte ? Gears console came out 6 years ago with 3 terabyte ????????
Micronet 4TB for $160 for the One X.. its just all about waitin for the price to drop.. Series X/S is next.
dam how dose it feel to get a memory card
i wonder if they make skins for them that look like ps2 majicgate or the gamecube memory card
