    "Faraday Future is a mysterious electric car company with cool ideas and not much else." Actually, since most of those "cool ideas" were stolen from Tesla, I'd say they're only a mysterious electric car company and not much else. It's actually pretty embarrassing to waste that much talent and not come up with anything better than they have.
    I can also safely say the same about Lucid. A huge waste of talent+cool ideas stolen from Tesla. Their only goal appears to be to have a car with a larger, more luxurious interior than Tesla. That's not really very hard to do since the Tesla interior, even after all upgrade options, is rather sparse and spartan in feeling.
    Elon Musk makes it look easy to create a new car company from scratch, but it's definitely not, as these ridiculous upstarts are finding out.

      I wouldnt even say they're mysterious. Pretty obviously a chinese copy of Tesla

    • @jhmcd2
      @jhmcd2 7 лет назад +1

      Actually, most of those ideas were stolen from the big three and other legacy manufacturers. Autonomous breaking actually came from a company based in MD who then sold it to other manufactures. Autonomous driving has been around for years, but making it a self contained system that was cost effective was only possible now (hell, Disney and Miami airport have examples of older systems). Self parking and un-parking systems came from Ford who was forced to limit the system's abilities due to regulations at the time. Like I said, Tesla is like Apple of the early 2000's when they came up with the iPod and iPhone. They aren't really doing anything new nor better than their predecessors, but they are hip and sexy and that is enough for now.

    • @dlwatib
      @dlwatib 7 лет назад

      Matt Bacon point taken!
      Jame M Autonomous breaking = planned obsolescence. I'm pretty sure you meant autonomous braking. Autonomous braking is only a very small part of autonomous driving. A trivial special case, as it were. Yes, other companies have been playing around with aspects of autonomy for years, in Ford's case, a dozen years. But nobody except Tesla has had any intention of bringing full autonomy to the market any time soon. If left to their own devices, Ford would never offer it to ordinary customers of their private passenger cars, only fleet vehicles for ride sharing services. They get no points from me for wasting a dozen years of research and having to buy Argo to play catch up to Tesla. Similarly, GM had to go out and spend a billion dollars on Cruise Automation in order to catch up to Tesla because their own research comparable to Ford's had ended in failure.

  • @alexanderlevenko4240
    @alexanderlevenko4240 8 лет назад +20

    This video is basically a distillation of all the negative press that FF has been getting, a lot of it from Jalopnik.
    I just want to point out some things that may be misleading:
    Faraday Future did not claim to invent a "Tesla Killer"
    For the record Nevada didn't give Faraday Future a suitcase full of cash. There are certain conditions that must be met before these tax breaks are granted. Namely, investing a billion dollars and hiring a percentage of local NV residents. Brian Sandoval actually criticized Dan Schwartz for seeming not to understand the agreement between FF and Nevada.
    Faraday Future poured over a hundred million dollars of their own money to fund the beginning of the factory work, Nevada residents need not to worry about their tax dollars.
    Also, you might not necessarily need an entire 1 billion dollar facility to be completed to deliver the first 300 cars. The battery cells are reportedly being supplied by LG. Why do they need to build a Gigafactory like Tesla? Tesla's gigafactory is to reduce the cost of the pack for the mass market Model 3.
    Regarding the IP, a certain company dumped all their patents into the public domain and are doing fine. Is it that big of a deal? (read the techdirt article and research organizational structure)
    Upper level management/structure is questionable. However the full story behind employee departure isn't known. For all we know, it could be restructuring for the better.
    Engineering & design wise FF is doing some very impressive things in a short timeframe. The Echelon inverter that they design/build in house at the Los Angeles facility is patented and unlike anything else on the market. Furthermore, they are doing extremely impressive demonstrations of the beta cars (which aren't overheating after constant acceleration tests).
    While we can all agree that there definitely looks to be some issues with upper management, I don't think we should bash on Faraday Future's entire engineering and design team by saying they didn't do anything.

    • @robertholtz
      @robertholtz 8 лет назад +8

      If one was to rely entirely on this video for their assessment of what happened at this demonstration, they have the impression the car was a fraud. That is the obvious slant of this video and it is clear that was their very intent. Make no mistake. It is hard to launch a car company. It is a major undertaking no matter how you look at it and it is fraught with challenges. I don't think anyone is candy coating that reality. Tesla had its own share of obstacles and crises in its formation and evolution. But the "return home" function was just one of many demonstrations that were made that night and while it did fail it was their only failure that night. Putting that aside, I thought the event and the demonstration was a success. Lucid, which this video does not even mention, demonstrated less but nevertheless also had an impressive event. I think even Elon Musk would be happy to see that electric cars are emerging creating more interest and a larger market for an all-electric automotive future and the eventual end of internal combustion fossil fuel present.

      epSos.de Thats not exactly true as of now. right now, the majority of electric power in much of the western world is generated with carbon fuels. Coal. until such time that renewable energy sources are being utilized on a massive scale for electrical power, an electric car is just putting a middle man in between it and the pollution it creates. Actually, considering the batteries require rare metals that must be mined, it's more likely that between that fact and the coal that ultimately powers the cars, gasoline may actually be greener currently than an all-electric car. In a generation or two when we're producing half or more of our power on solar and wind farms, buy an electric car. in the meantime, but a hybrid. They're much more efficient and leave a smaller carbon footprint.

    • @TricoliciSerghei
      @TricoliciSerghei 8 лет назад +6

      Even taken into account all the green gases that an electric car can throw out into the air indirectly, it's still much more "fuel" efficient that ICE cars and I've read somewhere that you cut about 40% CO2 emissions with an electric car even if you charge it with "dirty" electricity.. So it's a lot better to own one. And another point is that people that do buy electric cars care for the environment and usually buy solar panels to complement their ev. Don't know the percentage, but it's for sure.

    • @adriencailleaux9689
      @adriencailleaux9689 8 лет назад +12

      No, gas was and never will be greener. It's been proven many times now that even if an ev was 100% powered by coal ( which is not the case ANYWHERE by the way ) it would still be way less polluting than ice.
      Regarding the " rare metals must be mined " ( which can be recycled, not the case for oil once it's burned ) it looks like you belive you don't need to drill oil and ship it accross the world for ice to run. Plus the power needed to power the gas stations to fuel all those ice cars.
      Lol hybrid ? They are the worst ... They still have batteries that you seem to think are not worth it right now ( for stupid reasons ), plus they have engine that need gas and maintenance. Another dumbass not knowing anything about a topic that feel the need to spread bullshit .. That's sad

      The thought process is in absolutes. I'm explaining it badly but I think you understand. That said, there is a lot of potential and money to do some innovative stuff. The culture needs to let people be free to think. The foundation is already there, similar to Persia and Africa. The leadership is just shortsighted.

    • @owl6496
      @owl6496 8 лет назад +4

      Robert Nicholls I think what leads to this is that during the industry revolution era, China was at its Qin Dynasty, which was the last empire of feudalism. China has gone through so much tragedy such as the corruption of government, invasion by other western countries and Japan, etc. even China has 5 thousand years of history, but it was mainly a farm culture, it can't compare against the rapid growth brought by the industry revolution for western world even within several hundred years. also on top of all above, China has suffered so much from Mao cultural revolution back in 70 which reversed China back about 50 years. to be fair, China in fact started the capitalism - oriented business around 1980, so China is still a young developing country. now China's economy and industry has been growing so fast during the past decade, but the people from China aren't quite ready or caught up with the speed of the growth yet. thus most people are mainly profit drive and have no ethics. China has potential to be a strong country in many fields but it needs time and yet China's current government under the leadership of Xi has becoming so much better compare to the past governments , and it's likely to see improvement in the future

      umm I pass a fisker karma every day in my street :). it was actually produced, sold and used by customers. yeah the solar roof is a gimmick and useless. yes the design is a matter of taste, and a lot of people don't like the moustache. but don't give the ff91 that much credit. please. fisker karma was also not meant for normal public, its a handmade car ffs.

      So you see something that is an obvious scam, and they are currently trying to cash out, and to point out is equal to hate? Half of the things they claim to have, are impossible to get without been noticed. They require collaboration, the patents are public, and you cant possibly create an autonomous driving vehicle without having cars in the road testing it for thousands of miles. So call me crazy or hater, but I will say that anyone that puts money in this company now, of ignorant. They saw last year Tesla cashing hundreds of thousands on pre-orders alone after showing their series-3.. So they charged 5 times that cost for pre-order and try to claim that are better without even having a car.. By the time one any Tesla pre-order we knew every detail of the engine, battery, sensors of the car. here we know nothing.. Well I could go on and on...
      Its like calling those that point out the scam in Mars One as haters of human expansion..

    • @eternitynaut
      @eternitynaut 8 лет назад +2

      Nonsense. The autonomous part doesn't have to be developed in house, Tesla for the most part used off the shelve hardware and software from MobileEye and only now are making a home brew version of nvidia provided hardware and software. All the things they claim are easily obtainable, motors, controllers, batteries from third parties. The in house developed stuff are the chassis and body parts. Give me a 100 million dollars and I can make an almost exact copy of what they promise to deliver (sans factory). Rimac made theirs with 10 million but developed stuff themselves in order to avoid paying licenses to others. There is nothing impossible in what they set out to create, what seems impossible is the limitless human stupidity.

      Waw the best teach in the world for autonomous driving ai and battery is for sell at 100 Million dólares. What have I been doing all this year's...
      Tesla system of sensors was crap until they thought their algorithm of how driving in the road is like. It took them millions of miles to get anything decent. You can know every single authorized company testing autonomous driving in the world. where did they developed theirs?
      I never said it would have to be made in home, but it would be known.

    • @eternitynaut
      @eternitynaut 8 лет назад +3

      No, dumb fuck, I said I can build a prototype with all the information needed to mass produce it for 100 million dollars. It would not involve making the hardware and software for the self driving capability, nor making the battery production facilities, just licensing the tech from a couple suppliers and figuring out how to put everything together in a single package. There is nothing magical about it, it's horrifying however that you keep insisting it's somehow implausible and outside of human knowledge. What is so mysterious about it? It's certainly not trivial but it doesn't take a genius either, just money and a small army of engineers.

    Lots of true points in your analysis... but I find it a little bit too hard, it obviously remember me how Tesla was criticised few years ago (while now it's a true respected car manufacturer) and the failed demo is something that can happen, their others demo worked (with outside self-parking and acceleration test for example...), before that I would not even believe that they could build such car....

    • @TerryTerius
      @TerryTerius 8 лет назад +6

      Manu B it isn't just the demo, it's everything else on top of that. Not to mention The founder of LeEco's/Faraday's mounting financial problems and inability to pay for the construction of their facilities. I'm not saying that Faraday won't succeed, but there are a lot of issues surrounding the company at the moment. I hope things do go well for them, because we need more competition with internal combustion cars.

      Don't compare this company to Tesla. They are not alike and neither is how they operate. I've followed Tesla for years and there's no other company like them. NONE. FF was started with the arrogant intent by the founders to destroy Tesla. This has been documented early in the company's birth. Which is why most of their propaganda is directed against Tesla's vehicles and tech. They're not focused on sharing the EV market with Tesla or anyone else, which is just plain stupid. I hope there are plenty of other startups and automakers that succeed alongside Tesla in expanding the EV market and eventually help end our dependence on fossil fuels. I just don't think it will be FF. At this point, I hope not as well.

      He didn't pay debt. He payed his employees salaries and the bills to keep the company afloat until the DOE loan and investor money came in. Elon doesn't like debt. Which is why he paid off the DOE loan as soon they had the means, which was 9 years early from the due date with interest that the government profited from. Get your facts straight before making inaccurate claims on social media. Just because it's what you believe, doesn't make it fact.

      This isn't like Tesla's situation. Elon Musk was ambitious but he kept the financials under control. Faraday future is trying to do thing out of their reach without building a proper foundation. They are just piling up debt and it will eventually topple. Did Tesla build a 1B factory for its roadster? No, it started with a small factory and built its foundations to expand

      Let me point them out for you:
      First one:
      "The company doesn't have a proper facility to produce them in"
      - She is assuming that the 300 initial cars have to be built at the Nevada plant. FF might actually be building the initial units somewhere else while the factory is built.
      According to www.tmtpost.com/2550214.html you will find the following paragraph:
      When will Faraday Future deliver the cars after announcing them on the CES? Sampson said: “Our production is different from traditional auto makers, so we can make our delivery very soon after the rollout. However, we still need time to build the factory in Nevada. One thing is for sure though, that is Faraday Future’s new cars will be produced through OEM in the beginning.”
      Second one:
      "And despite not having an operational factory to make batteries in like Tesla does..."
      Clearly does not understand how supply chain works. Faraday Future is sourcing it's batteries from LG Chem. Tesla has built the Gigafactory 1 in order to reduce their costs for the high volume Model 3.
      Faraday Future does not need a gigafactory to produce their battery packs.
      Also Faraday Future is not building a gigafactory (for cells) anyways, it's an assembly plant (that doesn't mean battery cells).
      (electrek.co/2016/10/03/faraday-future-developing-new-battery-cell-with-lg-chem-claims-highest-energy-density-in-evs/)
