The shopkeeper, the king and the poor man get lost in the woods one after the other. A princess transformed into a hedgehog leads out all three of them. In the end he wins one princess’ hand and they celebrate their wedding.
Made by the Kecskemét Film Studio.
Directed by: Marcell Jankovics, József Haui
Storyteller: Gyula Szabó
Music: Kaláka band
The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

I am convinced that the hedgehog was the one that trapped them in the forest...
These stories have no problem with that. In another video, the pussycat princess does exactly that.
@@Zebulization Ikr!?
@@Zebulization The cat didn't trap anyone in a forest what are you talking about? The forest was already there and the prince was made to look for a bride there by his dad, not the cat.
@@WobblesandBean the cartoon glosses over it, but said "the prince could not return home until he promised to marry the pussycat." I assume that means that he could not leave the forest. After all, why limit yourself to the first creature you meet? It has him take a step then the cat starts to cry. sensibly he would have just left the cat, either gone around the forest, or back to town to acquire supplies for a deeper look into the forest. Even a forest spirit would have seemed better than a mere cat.
He couldn't return home until he found a bride. Who tf else is he supposed to marry? The trees? He was only trapped by tradition and societal expectations @@Zebulization
The hedgehog is adorable. Also I love how the poor man immediately accepts the hedgehog as his son.
glowworm2 Same!!
What do you think whenever a person who got a pet cat calling it it's son/daughter
Same
Lol probably
I agree.
daughter: hi dad you are back from the woods finally i thought you would never come ba-
dad: you are now married to a hedgehog
daughter: what
dad: i said what i said
“I said what I said” 😂😂🤣🤣
Daughter: now I really wish you'd never came back 😡
hedgehog: hey dad
poor man: hey legitimate son of mine😎
Probably Sonic is the father
OOF i love ur icon
I know, it was so cute. He didn't even hesitate, just said "welcome home son!" So wholesome 💜
That explain why his wife looked so angry she probably wondered. Is he mad maybe. And if not then who did he f**ked to get anthropomorphic hedghog
Man's wife: *YOU? WITH HIS MUM?!!*
The poor old man made out the best. Not only did he get out of the forest, but he gained a son that brought him riches and distinguished him amongst his peers when he became the father of the man in the diamond castle!
This is actually the oldest known Sonic the Hedgehog fanfiction in history
Thanks to this fairytale Sonic 2006 was made
I'm quite surprised the girls didn't find the hedgehog cute.
Tsk tsk! No foul language when commenting these videos.
Kuchi Kopi Those fairytales was made to smart children, not to stupid adults!
when did lovely story turned into this?... -_-
@Kuchi Kopi: since when is sex a necessary part of marriage (its desireable for most, yes but not necessary for all)
I agree! I would happily marry a hedgehog if I was in a folktale, since animals in these tales are able to communicate with as much eloquence as any human, regardless of if they can shapeshift or not. As for those other comments, sex is really not important, at least in my opinion. Just don't do it, and it's not bestiality. One can have a perfectly happy relationship without it, and the hedgehog would be the world's cutest husband. It is just a sweet tale, there is no need for such thoughts...

GOTTA GO FAST

FASTER FASTER FASTER
You did well for yourself, Hungarian Sonic!
Exactly my thought!
Hungarian Sonic 🤣
This comment is so underrated
Hungarian Sonic vs Ugandan Knuckles
Who's gonna win? 😂
Yep
Me too. How can anyone not love a cute looking animal including a hedgehog?
What's more is the fact that he lives for around 2 to 5 years total
It's bestiality
That's probably why ...
You aren't being forced to marry one...
Meanwhile, my dad would have rather died in the woods than give me away to some random mystical hedgehog.
Meanwhile my dad would have given me to the hedgehog regardless on if he would have helped him or not
As a man, I assure you most of us would die before asking someone else for directions out of the woods! XD
We won’t know that until he’s stuck in the woods with a magical hedgehog telling him he’ll save him.
Meanwhile my dad would probably make dark humor jokes to it untill either he or it died
😂😂 correct
The merchant's daughter must've regretted for not following the hedgehog.😂😂 On a serious note, unlike in many other folks tales, at least she was returned back instead of being forcefully retained as a wife against the wish of the girl - prince or not. It shows that the prince-in-hedgehog-form wasn't so selfish that he'd keep a woman just to lift up the curse. And let's not forget, how all the three major characters kept their promise (none are shown as bad) which otherwise would be a little bit different in many other cases where only the one "protagonist" is able to do.

all this story taught me is that i should respect every animal because they might turn out to be a babe

The king is like what are you doing under my pants
Until he turned into a prince I was thinking that the hedgehog had a great hustle game. Watch out for lost travelers, listen for frustrated promises spoken on the wind that no one really means, then force them to pay up.
Edit: not "great" in that I think it's a good or moral thing to do, but "great" in that I see how that could have played out well for the hedgehog...provided that everyone is as honest as the men in this story.
Who is turning all these princes into animals...?
A Tad Mad Productions Either angry witches, jilted fair folk (fairies) or the devil being a sneak.
The animator.
Salty thirsty witches, that's who
A fairy who likes to tarn into old hags. Like in Beauty and the Beast.
Idk a witch?
I love how that princess had a good heart and wasn’t shallow at all unlike other princesses in different stories.
I personally would have loved to be the hedgehog's wife. For one thing, the hedgehog is so cute!!! Plus, if he was kind enough to help my father during his time of need, then he would certainly be a kind husband to me and would do me no harm. 😊
Norma Ruis Gallardo same here :)
Yer a furry norma.
@@furrtakuXD I'm a whot?
@@normaruisgallardo5146: A Furry! And a weeb one at that I'd wager (given the thumbnail you chose)
You would engage in bestiality because a hedgehog is "cute" & kind???. . . um ok.
This show does lots of weird things, but the boob cuppage at the end of this one is one of the strangest XD
Honestly, I gotta respect that this show does what it likes, and to heck with censorship
I noticed that too!! Thought there'd be more comments like this.
I was grossed out! Not recommended for children!
In one version, the merchant's daughter kidnaps the hedgehog prince's children as revenge.
AH! HOW VERY DARE SHE!!! 😡😠🤬
Oh hey, the Latvians have a very similar folk tale called Ezīša Kažociņš (The Hedgehog's Pelt).
It starts with a couple asking God for a child, even it is small as a hedgehog. The hedgehog suddenly rolls out, exclaiming: "I'm your son!" (in some version, the woman actually gives birth to a hedgehog).
The hedgehog then becomes a swineherd, and while herding pigs in the forest, he encounters the lost king, which leads to this great exchange lines:
King: "How can someone as small as you herd pigs?"
Hedgehog: "How can someone as great as you get lost?"
The hedgehog offers to lead him out of the forest, in exchange for his daughter. The king refuses many times, but once he realises that he can't still find a way out on his own, he reluctantly agrees.
The hedgehog then rides to castle for the princess in a carriage pulled by two black roosters, but not without the king's attempts to stop him by ordering his soldiers to throw stones at him. He still manages to arrive and marries one of his daughters, much to everyone's ridicule.
During their first night, the hedgehog removes his titular pelt, revealing that he was a handsome man all along. The princess decides to burn the pelt without his knowledge, as she thought there was no reason for him to remain as a hedgehog, but it turned out to be a bad idea. The man fell ill with a deadly disease, which wouldn't occur if the pelt was burned two weeks later, and will most likely die.
However, after two weeks of suffering, he miraculously survives and lives with the princess happily ever after.
Nice! I think one if the most famous versions of this story is (as usual) Grimm's "Hans my Hedgehog". In their footnotes they also comment how similar this story of Kassel is to the hungarian version.
The story of the burned pelt is also interesting, cause it appears in some versions of the Italian tale "King Pig".
Also, the exchange between the hedgehog and the king is PURE GOLD!!!👑
Watch the storyteller Jim Henson

7:29 is he groping her?
Maxxcell Higdon he did say “happily ever after”
Glad someone else noticed. I guess his name is ”Gropey” the Hedgehog!
I knew i shouldnt read comments before watching cuz i dont like spoilers lol
Oh , yup ...probably gropes her all the time and maybr its a Hungarian tradition to do so in public as well just kidding
I saw that too, had to watch again, but he's definitely coping a feel
They need to stop going into those woods alone! XD
At least we learned this lesson from millennia of fairytales from across all nations!
That hedgehog is a player if I’ve ever seen one!
Before Sonic trailer, there was the Hungarian Hedgehog!
What a beautiful hedgehog!! Loved this tale!!
the merchants daughter got herself to blame for her behavior. so wonder what she and her father would say if they found out that the hedgehog was a prince
Warqin At the same time, I like how the hedgehog went, well, if you can’t be happy, I won’t force you to be miserable
oh come on, If your father (without your consent) forced you into a perminant relationship with an animal, including sex and all, you wouldn't be upset. This is a fairy tale not real life, the """morals""" it's aren't exactly applicable to real life, jesus.
Well they didn't KNOW that and they're not going to commit Beastiality even if he's an adorable animal
Among with the fact it's embarrassing to see a beastiality couple
This was actually a pretty good story. None of the 3 men tried to skip out on their promises and 2 actually seemed to benefit from the whole thing. I can't say I fully blame the merchants daughter for her reaction though. Being forced into a marriage you don't want would be hard on anyone. Though what would have happened if she had stayed with him? Would he still have gone for the princess as well? Would the hedgehog prince become a polygamist? It just makes me wonder.
I remember watching this folk tale on Pinwheel when I was in elementary school. I never forgot the music that played while the hedgehog rode the rooster.
What kind of king just goes into the woods alone?! 🤨
Maybe he was tired of all the company that he tricked his guard(s) to leave him alone
A Hungarian king, of course!
This king did-
I wish the "Long Ago and Far Away" version was still available. That one was the best.
King: I will give 3 sacks of gold and one of my daughters to the one who helps me get out of this forest.
Hedgehog: Observe
check 2:40
The quality is wonderful, but I do miss Tammy Grimes' sublime narration when she dubbed this for "Long Ago and Far Away" on PBS.
I really enjoyed that one too
I love all of this stories
There is something rather warm and nice in them.
I started binge watching these when I was sick and now I can’t stop. Send help.
This is a life lesson I will never forger
Such beautiful music along the tale!
2:42 I can understand it being see through but I didn't expect it to be that see through to get an outline of his......and in realistic proportions too.
Never judge a book by it's cover :D
Or spikes
Exactly
... I think
I love it how the hedgehog rides on a black rooster like a horse! 🦔🐓
many of these folktales have similarities to Grimm's fairytales.
This one is almost exactly like the story "Jack my hedgehog" (Hans mein Igel)
cramer floro The Grimm's fairytales coming from those folktails, the Grimms collecting, and rewrite those ancient folk tales
I was about to say the same thing!
Yes, I have this in a graphic novel titled "The Big Book of Grimm". In there, it's called "Hans the Hedgehog".
No, dude.
These aren't so cruel
Fun fact: There is the Aarne-Thomson tale type index to classify tales based on main story elements and the type of character involved in the story. Many cultures have very similar tales and this helps to compare and organise them.
Omg he rides a rooster for a mount, it's too cute 💜
This is the kind of story I like ❄
Man! Good girls be killing it in these tails with their luck
hedgehog got better game then i do. XD
The merchant’s daughter missed out😂
I love these Hungarian folk tales sooo much.
The hedgehog is cute
This sounds like the Grimms' stoty HANS MY HEDGEHOG.
HAPPILY EVER AFTER
Just a faint hope of fading nostalgia in fairy tales n in the other hand we know it's impulsively impossible in LIFE 🤣🤣
I know, it's a bittersweet feeling. I love these stories so much, but I'll never have anything like this. No prince, no faeries, no magic, no happy ending. Sigh.
Yeah as kids we have always been taught that there is a silver lining in every story n most of the times that silver lining has been conceptualized by the #HappilyEverAfter phrase. My whole childhood was a lie now I know so I know. Lol
the hedgehog is so sweet !!!
It’s a very nice tale, love it 💚
Oh my god its sonic 06
The poor man at 2:44 looks like Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons, and the King's daughter at 4:18 looks like Olive Oyl (head)
Very adorable tale, I really enjoyed it. :)
thats one (kind) gangster hedgehog
Well I know the Hedgehog Prince lived happily ever after... Did anybody else notice him getting his grip on at the end?!??
7:29
He's very handsy isn't he
🎶tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Awww🎶
Kindness. Always be kind.
Hans the Hedgehog!
If i remember correctly Chris hansen (the guy who made the muppets) also did a good retelling of this story
She now has something to really cry about
Very nice heartwarming story.
I'm more curious as to HOW the Prince and his horse became a Hedgehog and rooster..
Witch Curse, Reality shifting boners (oddly popular), or hedgehog has magic
I am obsessed with these folk tales, love them!
Wow! Everyone kept their promises. Also, hedgehogs are adorable. :D
The new Sonic movie looks great
That prince isn't the least bit shy in the very last scene. :P
Hungarian folk-lore is most enjoyable.
Moral of the story: Hedgehogs are hustlers.
4:39 "Move It Toots !!!" 😂
7:29 - 7:32 why is the prince's hand placed right on her bosom? 😅
Curious how the most beautiful daughter was also the thinnest
Beautiful story. A Merry Christmas to all.
6:05 was such a nice imagery.
Ok I remember seeing this one on TV or something when I was younger and always thought it was cute
Ahahahaha.😂😂😂 I’m getting the hang of this. Blonde woman is the kindest, and will marry a creature that turns out to be surprisingly a man.
the sonic movie was quite adorable tbh i dont know why ppl complained about the design and all.
I love how men were always trying to give away women for no good reason 😭😂😂
I love these stories.
As princesses two sisters, we got married to a general
Gosh golly it's beautiful
Thank you! It was made in the Pannonia Film Studio, Kecskemét, Hungary.

...So, he was a cursed hedgehog? Or could he transform into anything from the start?
i am still looking out for the music of this episode.... cant find it even looking for the band material
What's the band for für elise?
Try Kaláka band. It says they provided the music
the princess knew her fairytales - she was no dummy. LOL 🌻🦔
3:48 That
Sounds
Amazing, I wanna see that in live action
just looked it up and I am satified
I bet you that daughter of merchant tried to get back to "hedgehog prince" after she found out that he is wealthy man...🤔😅
6:46 When you collect the 7 emeralds of chaos and become Super Saiyan
Have you ever considered doing streams of the series in a loop every once and a while, or for specific themes? Might give you an algorithm bump.
Handsome prince. Eh, id rather marry a cute hedgehog.
Ever realize that there are always 3 sons or 3 sisters? There usually out of those three, two that have faults & one that is nearly perfect, mostly in heart.
But, what does bother me, is when 3 sisters are represented, 2 are always fat/chubby. Hence the thinner princess is chosen. Just bugs me and perpetuates the idea that fat/chubby aren't desirable.
Of course not desirable. In the past when these tales were born people weren't PC.
Cool story. I actually thought he was cuter as the hedgehog.
7:28 🙈his hand
And that Sonic, is how I met your mother.
This may be how the story of Sonic '06 was inspired...
Boy Sonic really got weird
good thing the men kept their promise
4:32 But the girl knew about Sonic '06 and knew it wouldn't work out
