  • Dust up your fedoras, hop on a tram to visit your favourite jazz club where the gangster's moll is crooning a sultry number because we're going back to the Bombay of the 60's baby!
Well, not quite. We're going back to 2015 to discuss Anurag Kashyap's deeply polarising work ‘Bombay Velvet’. Joining Abbas and Urjita on this venture is film critic extraordinaire Sucharita Tyagi.
Is BV a misunderstood masterpiece? What makes it stand apart from other Kashyap fare? Why did this film disappoint fanboys? Why does Abbas want to keep recasting the film? Are the music and lyrics the soul of the film? And should it have been a prestige streaming miniseries rather than a film? Tune in to find out the answers to all this and more on ‘Has It Aged Well?’.

Mr Motwane already has shown Mr. Kashyap what it means to make a good period drama with Jubilee. Bombay Velvet is an embarrassment in front of an actual masterpiece like Jubilee.

It's disappointing to see commenters shitting on the co-host for not bringing expert and intellectually stimulating views to the table. Could she have raised better questions? Sure. Does she deserve to be heavily judged for this? Absolutely not. She's no friend of mine but have some empathy. It's ok to give constructive criticism if it helps the channel grow. But judging the show runners and expecting them to take drastic actions to fit your mood and expectations is... Be nice!

6/10, I second Abbas. Mini series is a great idea although Sacred Games has hardly left any room. A different cast, better sound design, a non linear screenplay, more emphasis on the club..."it's a supernova...♥"

I hate how Abbas was bullied into "liking" the film. So much so that he wasn't even able to articulate all the things that were wrong with it.
It's a really bad film and the reason for most part was Karan Johar who wanted to ride the Kashyap popularity wave post GOW. Also Kashyap's own arrogance played a part too.

I am not aware who the 24 year old is but I found her more judgemental than insightful. Her way of generalising all Neo-noir female characters confirmed the fact that she has not watched enough movies to be on a movie podcast. She needs to be more informed about movies in general and needs to work more on her articulation. She maybe a comedian, but as a cinephile I am here to gain more insights on movies and hear less jokes.

If i am listening to a podcast which is about dissecting a movie whether it has or not aged over the period of time....then i guess i am expecting some actual insight on the reasons for being on the either side and when the host says "i dont know why" for liking or disliking something then what's the point for this episode🤔.....i have not watched all the episodes so would refrain from saying whether the host is good or not but i just hope he should atleast collect his thoughts before the episode so that he would have something to add to the conversation

Agree with you there but sadly no one from a platform like Film Companion will ever badmouth the Bollywood bigwigs. They might pretend to be critics and even be good at that but they aren't outsiders with a third person view they are very much part of that industry and have to bow down to the big Bollywood families.

Urjita needs to grow up in her thought process, in her usage of language. 1 bachchi ko jisko relationship, films, manners ki samajh nahi hai - kahe bithaye ho ??!! Usko bolo jake padhai kare, aur movies dekhen, zindagi jiye - it is embarrassing when she says that they looked like siblings to her. She doesn't understand nuances in any department. Why do we have to listen to her ??!!

I made a very similar point on the Yuva review video. She is Not well suited to co-host this podcast. Her language is, let's just politely say, "not refined enough", and she is too young and uninformed to review movies. Not being ageist and there are a lot of "young" people who are film buffs, unfortunately, Urjita isn't one of them. It's always irritating to see her interrupting conversations with really stupid and silly comments and observations, but in this episode she just broke all the records 😆. It was almost embarrassing to see how dumb she sounded in front of Sucharita!

I was disappointed by the movie for few reasons:
    1. The character played by Ranbir lacked depth and substance.
    2. Although I enjoyed the songs, I thought there were too many with a jazz theme and wished for more variety in the soundtrack.
    3. Anurag's directing, while ambitious, was hindered by his lack of experience with on-set production, resulting in less smooth camera movement than usual.
    4. Karan's antagonist seemed lacking in menace and power.
    5. The plot twist of killing and reviving Anuska's character was hard to digest.
    6. Overall, the movie had a depressing and bleak tone.

Someone please tell IVM to replace Urjita as a co-host. PLZ 🙏🏼! The concept is so good and the guests do such a good job. She just single handedly brings down the quality of the show to the ground! Give her a podcast according to her skill sets, this is just way beyond her reach. She never does a good job here but in this episode, in front of Sucharita, her remarks and "observations" were just embarrassing to watch and sheer pain to go through. And her language.... OMG 🙄!

You sound like a jealous frustrated wannabe. The girl brings in the casual viewer and light heartedness to the podcast. This is not supposed to be a conversion between Roger Ebert and Pauline Kiel. And this is not a podcast about macroeconomics and food security, you do not need skills sets to talk about film, just an internet connection.

@@rishabhaniket1952 I'm neither jealous, nor frustrated or a wannabe. I very much like fun podcasts like @CyrusSays and @VaryaLab that are on the same platform. I thought that was the point of sharing comments, one gets to share their thoughts and feedback about the shows they are watching. You have your opinion and I have mine. We may agree or disagree or agree to disagree. But you don't have the right to personally attack me with nasty remarks. Perhaps you are a fan or a friend of Urjita and feel the need to blindly support her when she is not doing a great job co-hosting the show. There is "fun" and there is "smart fun", if you want to know what I mean, pls watch Cyrus's show or Navin and Akash's show, or even Navya's show on IVM.

@@2011szaman Never heard of the girl before this podcast🤣. And there is no intellect grading in ‘fun’. It’s a completely natural and unfiltered thing. Your pretentiousness makes me laugh bcoz it seems you are being exposed for the first time to something mildly stimulating in terms of entertainment through IVM. Breaking news, it is all derivative and stale apart from Cyrus of course, bcoz he basically brought this punk or stream of consciousness spirit to comedy in India. And if your standard of smart is Navin and Aakash then I am sorry to say it is really it is basically in the lowest of grades. Try some ‘Brass Eye’ and ‘The Day Today’ , Mock the Week if you really want to know what real satire and smart comedy means.
P.S : On editing it, I am sorry it I offended or mansplained but I truly want my fellow countrymen to have the best taste in comedy. Take it or discard it. And sorry for the long essay, cudn’t help myself like Cyrus😅

@@rishabhaniket1952 I'm not one of your countrymen and have no interest in learning about comedy from you. I just wanted you to mind your business. IVM didn't have any problem with my comments (assuming from the fact that they liked my original comment) and they always encourage viewers/ listeners to share their opinion. Also, I wasn't the only one who criticized Urjita's co-hosting skill on this page. I told you before, you and I may agree or disagree, but why do you have to keep insulting me with your remarks? You seem helbend on making me agree with you. What's up with that? Do you really have nothing do to in life? Or just stuck with an enormous ego that can't tolerate any alternate points of view? Plz mind your business and let people share their thoughts/feedback on a free platform. If IVM finds mine or anyone else's comments harmful, disturbing or harassing, they will take action. You don't need to be a keyboard warrior. Just....mind your own business. #Peace

The funniest thing about this video is how Abbas keeps talking about how badly everyone was miscast in Bombay Velvet, but is oblivious to how severely miscast Urjita is in this entire podcast series. It was great to hear insights from Sucharita, and Abbas was tolerable at best, but good God, Urjita single-handedly dropped the quality of this podcast. Embarrassingly daft attempts at trying to be funny, zero understanding of subtext or subtlety, and the loudness of Arnab Goswami: She is a triple THREAT indeed.
