Fun episode! Lot of valid hate 😁 Just one addition - the film is a remake of an earlier Rajshri film called Nadiya ke Paar, which is an adaptation of the novel Kohbar ki Shart. Both the novel and Nadiya ke Paar are based in a rural setting of a specific area (Bihar). So the practice/custom/way of life where the younger sister takes up the role of the deceased elder sister is taken from that background. (Of course this is not defending it, just an insight into why it is so). What happens with HAHK is for almost 70% of the film, the setting is urban and modern and it suddenly it becomes so traditional in just this one instance (of the brother-in-law and sister-in-law getting married for the sake of the child). Then it becomes a bit too much to digest and looks out of place. If you take the original material into consideration the picture becomes clearer.
I was conflicted during the episode. On one hand I was liking the fact that for once there's someone who didn't like the Titular film and was being critical of it. BUT throughout the episode I was saying, "They messed it up. They should have invited Zakir khan for HAHK." He adores this film. Watching HAHK in a packed theater was a wholesome experience. This movie broke the record of Disco Dancer (100 crore club record). I am totally on Urjita's side. This film is the product of its time (and value). I loved that film at that time.
I also missed the chocolate lime juice song in the Netflix cut, and by the way it is one of the early and few coming of age songs in bollywood /hindi ! And yo, it is a highly enjoyable movie *cough* *cough*
I am totally on Urjita's side.. c'mon guys you don't have to have harsh reality in everything. The music is amazing, Salman n Madhuri look gorgeous! I loved this movie!
this movie was a pretty accurate representation of India at the time. Sure the main focus is wedding shenanigans but its not even close to the diarrhea comment by Kuch bhi mehta. Akash tries tooooo hard to sound like a cinephile which he is faar from!
HAHK is the most f""kol movie of the century which family starts dancing every 10 minutes I feel Suraj Barjatya has fooled the whole of country in the 90s with this
30:50 devar se shadi is the most common. devar ka matlab hi doosra var hota hai. since marriages, traditionally are alliances between families, hence the insistence on keeping the alliance intact.
30:23 There were many such films in the 50 and 60s where the daughter was married off to deceased elder brothers sister gumraah is one that way the child wasn't left to the xRe id a step mom ..kamini kaushal the superstar of the 40s was married to her bro in law when her older sister passed away..in case of dewar getting married to deceased brothers wife 'ek chadaar maili si' was specifically based on it..dewar itself means dwi-var( second groom)that way a way of keeping the dowary money in the family 😂
With all due respect, Urjita has a lot to learn and experience. Her analysis is so innocent and naive. Great insights by Aakash and Abbas. But keep up the good work, you guys!
Why no one talked about Nadiya k paar the original of this movie Hum aapke h koun is shittier version of Nadiya k paar with lots of song I expected urjita to talk about it
Some of Abbas's viewpoints are so ridiculous. The whole point about subliminal messaging leading to water breaking, is just too much. Thank you Urjita for keeping the conversation sane and logi cal.
Akash mehta is that guy who thinks shitting on bollywood and praising hollywood makes him sound cool but in reality he doesn't have the capability to understand either type of cinema.
Mehta saab keeps contradicting himself ... What are the things you felt were impacted by HAHK -- He says Sangeet mein naachna.. Then he says I did not have a Sangeet on my wedding. I talked my way out of it... He seems confused. It is not very clear why he does not like the movie. He is unable to clarify himself.
I think you people are reading too much into the movie. The movie doesn't talk about anybody's career aspirations, Salman's aur Madhuri's. And the jiju-marrying-the-younger-sister after the old sister dies, is an actual thing that happens. This movie in its own way is trying to say that it shouldn't happen.
Urjita's alternative ending was awesome (Mohnish Bahl burning the letter n maybe stabbing the dog)!! I wanna watch that movie.

Wow. Thanks for that trivia. I did not know this!
I'm 35 yrs old and still watched this movie for the first time in last year. I loved it so much, yet agree with Aakash!
Loved this!
Aakash’s prediction on Barjatya new movie is bang on.
As a person who was made to watch 'Hum Apke Hain Kaun' by my parents during lockdown, I totally agree with Aakash's opinion about the movie
There's a 1982 movie called Nadiya Ke Paar starring Sachin Pilgaonkar and Sadhana Singh. Hum Aapke Hai Kaun's story is a rip off of Nadiya Ke Paar.
It's also made by Rajashri only
Ripoff nahi hai bhai. Its a barjatya production only.
@@dotpngpic Oh okay, didn't know that.
Thanks! 🙌🏾
Island of hope in an ocean of diarrhoea...
just mentioning for anyone who missed it..😂

Urjita I have a huge crush on you... Just saying it before she marries her jijaji😀😀
Have you guys seen the original film that Hum Aapke hain Koun is based on, Nadiya ke Paar?
I'm surprised they didn't talk about it!
I also missed the chocolate lime juice song in the Netflix cut, and by the way it is one of the early and few coming of age songs in bollywood /hindi !

I am totally on Urjita's side.. c'mon guys you don't have to have harsh reality in everything. The music is amazing, Salman n Madhuri look gorgeous! I loved this movie!
Also it is shown that Madhuri is learning some degree in computers. So it was introduction to Indian youngster going towards IT field.

Why is everyone so happy… at a wedding??? 46:03 what else are you supposed to be?
Such a fun episode!!!! Love you guys
Great pod.. I laughed a lot.
Team Urjita✌🏻

Maybe singing and dancing is not part of your culture, but in Indian society singing and dancing for any event is very common.
Gold!
30:50 devar se shadi is the most common. devar ka matlab hi doosra var hota hai. since marriages, traditionally are alliances between families, hence the insistence on keeping the alliance intact.
Nahi bro, "joota chupai" is at least older than me... I'm likely older than HAKHK....(I think sab podcasts sunn li hai tum logooN ki... (h) ... )
Poor Urjita's trying so hard to defend this err..not great movie 😬
Still better than 2015-2020 commercial bollywood ch@# like bhrmstra
Last 5 year m south valo ne bollywood ki ma ch@# di h

Well, we still need that perspective to understand the allure of the movie in general.
She is choti bacchi re just 26
Heard it on audio first, and came here to watch Akash go crazy. 🙂
Why no one talked about Nadiya k paar the original of this movie
Hum aapke h koun is shittier version of Nadiya k paar with lots of song
I expected urjita to talk about it
Exactly!
Why was noone concerned that madhuri was so keen on marrying her jiju
Some of Abbas's viewpoints are so ridiculous. The whole point about subliminal messaging leading to water breaking, is just too much. Thank you Urjita for keeping the conversation sane and logi cal.
What is abbas’s problem?
Urjita!❤
Who got rich before 93??
Urjita claims to be a feminist but I rarely see her take a feminist stance in these discussions. Abbas is 10 times a feminist in his opinions.
Has Khalnayak been done yet?
Akash mehta is that guy who thinks shitting on bollywood and praising hollywood makes him sound cool but in reality he doesn't have the capability to understand either type of cinema.
It's a remake of rajshri production, same story. Song: kon disa mein leke chala re

Saadi maa nu putt ni labhne , tainu haar bathere
the movie was, is, will be cringeworthy- don't do this guys
