I recommend getting the SSD from "trustful" stores like Amazon or Best Buy. I use brands like SanDisk and Samsung EVO. Never had issues. Verify the seller is legit before buying. SSD are between $50 to $100, depending the storage and specs.
Sony's update file on their website doesn't download since the latest update. hopefully they put up a download for the last version or actually get it to work now
Apparently SSD doesn't really help because of the limitations of the controller so probably better off with a spinning drive for half the price (or twice the size).
It definitely helps. A lot of PS3 games allow for partial installs. Or full installs for a few games. That's mostly the texture data and sound/music and movie files being installed. If your running off a SSD then your games are gonna stream the game world textures in instantly and not hitch like it usually would. Games running off Unreal Engine 3 will have its textures actually load instantly and its world loaded in with a lot less popin. Rages texture streaming issue on PS3 is fixed, and Fallout 3's and New Vegas save file slowdown bug won't happen anymore. Also with you buyva Samsung 860 Evo 1TB it comes with 1GB of DDR4 Cache built in. So that more RAM to help games out further. So using one these days is definitely! Worth it.

@@2tooful From what I've learned because the Fat Models SATA is old as it is now. The max limit was 1.5TB. But Sony used different parts for later models in the PS3 Slim and PS3 Super Slim. I've learned that PS3 Super Slim is the best to use a SSD in as it is the most up to date parts wise. It has a more current SATA Connector. So you will get more from a SSD in it. I'm not sure what SATA Connector it is. Could be SATA 2.0 or SATA 2.5. Nobodys looked into it enough. But I'm pretty sure you get at least 400mb's out of the Super Slim model, vs all the other models.
going to try to upgrade to a bigger hard drive soon and will report the results. It is worth mentioning that PS3 needs a 2.5 inch type of hard drive I know it's something small but it can make a difference if someone orders one or potentially gets scammed by not knowing the type of Hard drive PS3 needs. I say this because while working on my OG xbox I learned the hard way the difference between SATA and IDE hard drives. I had several hard SATA hard drives ready to go from my previous OG xbox later on finding out I need a 2.5 SATA. Again very small but very important information.

My bro has a 80GB PS3 CECHL11 (Fat model) but his HDD is now getting out of space quickly, and I need to see if the SSD I mentioned also works on his PS3 Fat.
1tb is overkill. 256gb or 500gb should be more than enough. This is the PS3 we are talking about not a PS4. Most games only take up around 5 to 7 gigabytes and 10 to 25 at the most. Some games only load off of the disc so they take up a few megabytes just for the save data. You can also use any SATA drive as long as it is a 2.5 inch drive and no thicker than 9.5mm.
That’s a very good question I don’t think it’s possible because everything on the PS3 motherboard is integrated.it’s not something you can slide out and slide in,although that would of been cool.and I think going forward that might be the future of console design

I mean no hate on Samsung drives since they have been proven one of the best but it might be good to note that wd, SanDisk or corsair might be better options. They are well known companies as well and since the ps3 uses a old sata controller you won't see any difference in a ssd that has double the speeds of another ssd. Since even a first gen ssd is faster than the bus speed the ps3 can theoretically support.
@@PABGames was more of if someone was to go out and buy a drive specifically for this. Adata and SanDisk are less than half the price of Samsung ssds. Ps3 won't know the difference due to its bus speed limitation. So they could probably get the 1tb limit the ps3 supports for less than the 500gb of the Samsung cost.

All the other reads I've made say that it don't make that much of a difference but it does and I recommend it if it's in the budget.
That’s awesome to hear! 😎

I don't think the CECHC04 is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2, you may need to investigate further though.

no matter what i try - it always gives me message " cannot start the appropriate system storage was not found " ... any help? may it be because of ssd brand from aliexpress? (the ssd works absolutely fine in PC, i formated it as FAT32 MBR partition)
I recommend getting the SSD from "trustful" stores like Amazon or Best Buy. I use brands like SanDisk and Samsung EVO. Never had issues. Verify the seller is legit before buying. SSD are between $50 to $100, depending the storage and specs.
Same for the USB Flashdrive.

Is this still possible in 2024? Realizing it requires an OS update worries m3 considering sony closing down the network.
Sony's update file on their website doesn't download since the latest update. hopefully they put up a download for the last version or actually get it to work now
Apparently SSD doesn't really help because of the limitations of the controller so probably better off with a spinning drive for half the price (or twice the size).
Also the maximum compatible size is 1TB on the ps3
Worth it.
@@2tooful 1TB is the maximum size on the fat model. It's like 3TB on the Slim and Super Slim I believe
@@WllKiedSnake isn’t the software the same on all ps3s? I heard it’s got something to do with the ps3 os , if you go over 1.5 tb of storage you get corrupt data and stuff
Dead Space 1 is my favorite of the 3.
going to try to upgrade to a bigger hard drive soon and will report the results.

How would I go about upgrading my original PS3's 256mb XDR RAM? How much can I give it? is 16 or 32GB RAM upgrade possible for the PS3?
That’s a very good question I don’t think it’s possible because everything on the PS3 motherboard is integrated.it’s not something you can slide out and slide in,although that would of been cool.and I think going forward that might be the future of console design

I mean no hate on Samsung drives since they have been proven one of the best but it might be good to note that wd, SanDisk or corsair might be better options.
They are well known companies as well and since the ps3 uses a old sata controller you won't see any difference in a ssd that has double the speeds of another ssd. Since even a first gen ssd is faster than the bus speed the ps3 can theoretically support.
yeah, i guess it depends what your preference is. I had this laying around and thought why not?
@@PABGames was more of if someone was to go out and buy a drive specifically for this. Adata and SanDisk are less than half the price of Samsung ssds.
