    Thanks for explaining how to get to safe mode. Most of the currently tutorials on how to upgrade fat PS3s were written when this model was still relatively new and didn't have issues with simply popping in a new HDD, which can cause issues after pressing the pwr button. Much appreciated man!!

    I know this is really old, but I appreciate this tutorial. My PS3 is an oldler PS2 BC model. It has a 500GB hard drive installed (bought it used on eBay a couple years ago.) The large space has been nice and I've been able to fit a lot on it. Recently with the announcement of the store closing I've decided to buy some more digital games in interested in before they're gone forever. But I can't download them for some reason. So I might need to change the hard drive.

    Thanks. I've done the steps according to that video a few days ago and here what goes different:
    - I could not to copy saves to USB drive until I bought PSPlus membership (I've done it so far), by now it must be some premium service;
    - copy protected save (DeusEx: HR) doesn't copy to the cloud (and of course to usb too).
    So now I have upgraded my ps3 80GB to 500GB (it is worth to do) but must play again about 6hr of DeusEx.

    Good, concise tutorial.
    I think PS3 updates have prevented the select multiple option for save data folders. I had to open each save folder and then it would let me select multiple. Making a 1 minute job a 5 minute job, having to do this for each game's save folder.
    Another note a few save files wouldn't copy to USB. GT5, GT6 (although there was a second save file in each of their folders that would copy) and I think Killzone 2. These save files seem to be locked
    Also noticed I had a corrupt save file at the bottom of the list
    Thanks again

    What size hard drive did you have before the transfer and what size flash drive did you use to transfer the saved data?
    I have the old 80gb ps3 and it's nearly full so I'm going to try to upgrade to a bigger hard drive, I just want to make sure I get the flash drive to be the correct size.
    By the way, the video helps a lot and I plan to watch it step by step for my upgrade.

    Hello Peyton, I just watched your video because I would like to put a new hard drive in my fat PS3 but the problem is i’m Not able to remove the blue screw and no matter what screwdriver i use it just won’t budge so what specific screwdriver did you use? I’m frustrated about this. Would really appreciate your help at your earliest convenience if you could pretty please. Thanks!

    I have a 55GB Fat PS3 that has a clip to pull on, and it slides to the right instead of a straight pull.
