Ich bin 60 und muss jeden Tag an meine Eltern denken und sage ihnen morgens und abends das ich sie liebe und vermisse wie am ersten Tag als sie gingen. 😢
MIght have posted a comment on this nice song before-Here's another Dec 8th, 2022- Listening as i turned 72 yesterday, life has flown by like a breeze-I'm crying.
old days where the best day when you ask for nothing because you got nothing but where happy with what we had and made the best of every little things we had .bring back the good old day
our ancestor's house is practically crumbling down the today. I miss my childhood in that house. We left it because our paths led us to different places.
Oh Johnny remember your songs blaring out from Dennistons record shop at the top of Geraldiine Terrace in the 1970s industrial town of Longford the biggest county industrial town then when it produced ambulances for irish health service and the English NHS and produced all the denim for levi, wrangler market in America and other international markets oh brilliant days never be forgotten thanks to your music Johnny!!!
Johnny bought your records when I left home at 15,Johnny your songs your voice are heavenly..I played you night and day still do..god bless you always.xx
Lucy, the words you wrote are relevant to many folk. In your short dialogue, you have articulated just how we react when we hear songs by Johnny. He was a massive influence in my guitar playing and song choice, his voice and his songs were always a comfort as I sailed the seas. When I listen to Johnny McEvoy, everything just seems right. The album, “For the poor and for the gentry” is a masterpiece, as is most of what Johnny released.
Of course the auld days I can relate to so very much . can you imagine 15 of us living in a cottage together till the older ones at the tender age of 14 my sister's went into domestic service and the lads worked for different people . as I was the 2nd youngest and my sister got an education at the tech school in Oldcastle . when I was 16 I got a job in the post office in Oldcastle and worked for approx 8yrs until I married a cavan man who worked on their dairy farm. As he was a good worker and was ploughing at the tender age of 9. Often the guards would come out to see why he wasn't attending school. Oh to the happy memories we experienced 1st in the country I was 7 when we moved to the town of Oldcastle. My father was a farrier a lovely gentleman. To think with 15 siblings and leaved in a 2 bedroomed cottage my God where did we all sleep .the memories I hold dear of my wonderful parents shaped me so much. The morals and values also respect for others held me in good stead God bless them both . slainte
I'm pretty sure this song is requested every week on the radio show called Jigs and Reels here in beautiful Newfoundland. Everything about this recording is perfect. The lyrics are so relatable, the use of the brass instruments, the organ. Just gorgeous
Hadn't heard this before until very recently. I think it is a superb song -- lovely melody, compelling lyrics and story, and beautifully performed by Johnny McEvoy. I give it 5 stars out of 5. Will listen to it many times. It makes me smile and gives me mental peace.
Johnny McEvoy had and has one of the best voices ever to come out of Ireland, I wish i cud get my hands on some of the early folk songs he did, Nobody and i mean nobody did folk like Johnny,
Loved Johhny's voice since a child it just has a certain quality that other just dont have i know its a personal choice but this is such a distictive voice
