It's a little too late to share this frugal tip, but on a particularly tight year I spent $5 at the Dollar Tree (yes, when it was still just a $1). I bought 3 bags of Tootsie Roll pops, a box of white tissue and some thin black ribbon. I had a black marker at home already. I made ghosts, tying a tissue around the lollipop with the black ribbon and dotting two eyes with a black marker. I spent the evening at my sisters (I lived in an older neighborhood that did not have a lot of kids) so that my two young boys could enjoy trick or treating with their cousins. My sister likes to go all out. All chocolate. Reeses, Hersheys, Kit Kats, the works. Half way through the night all the kids knocking kept asking if, "this was the house with the ghost lollipops?" I've never seen my sister so upset with me. 🤣
By the way I love the monthly recap hauls! We spent $300 this month and all we bought were fresh fruits and veg and a couple of bread products. I had knee replacement so my husband did all the shopping for the first time in our marriage of 7 years. His comment: “they’re trying to kill us with these prices! I see why you insisted on building a pantry.”

I love that you’re documenting how much you’re spending on groceries. I think it’s probably helping to keep those haters at bay. Lol We spend very little money on candy for Halloween. We live in a small neighborhood with only 25 houses. I like to call it an enclave. 😂 There are fewer than 10 children in our neighborhood. I usually just make up little bags for each kid. Also, the city center of the town that I live in, which is a 5 minute walk from our house, has a huge Halloween gathering every year. So most families go to that!🎃

For those of you who are having the spoiled milk issue and with the price of milk, yikes! Learn to make your own milk with oats. Oats are still relatively affordable so stick up now before they go through the roof. Buy organic oats if you can because if they’re not organic, they’ve been sprayed with chemicals right before harvest to dry them out
I worked in the grocery business for 15 years. If at anytime milk becomes room temperature, for every hour it stays like this, it looses a day of shelf life. This can happen many times before you ever get it.
I wish the discount store was better in my area! I only spent $175 on groceries this month for my family of three. We had so many good sales on food and I had some awesome clearance finds.
This is a great video! would you consider doing a budgeting video with the topic being on paper goods/toiletries? That's whats been my biggest challenge when budgeting; granted I do have two in diapers still😅
I love all your amazing finds. The "grocery store milk" is mostly water. I buy milk at Braum's here in Texas and it will last long past the expiration date. So glad I live in the country. Houses to far apart. Our local antique car club along with a lot of other organizations are have a Trick in the Trunk in the grocery store parking lot. About the organic milk, your lovely family might not go back to regular milk. I went out to "sprout " for their less expensive eggs, since then have been trying to go back to any eggs. The yokes are not as delicious, they are a tad orange, so probably more nutritious. May not because your babies are not spoiled like mine are.
Wish we had that many trick or treaters! I had 5 and that was 5 more than last year! Got my pumpkins and lights out early but I think the rain here put some families off. My aunt and uncle gave me apples from their orchard but there were so many that the last ones were going very soft so I made apple sauce from them all and then made an apple sauce cake. It's delicious! I thought 'Christine would be proud of me' when I was baking it.
You can save yourself so much money by mixing up powdered milk and not walking by all the other food in the grocery store just to buy a gallon of [expensive, these days!] milk. Love this tip! xox
Organic milk is one of the only few organic items we purchase. We’ve noticed that the expiration date is always a lot longer than regular milk, about 6wks. Totally worth it as it never goes bad on us. 😀
Nice! I did $150 for a house of two. (My other half and I) and we got ALL organic products for the entire month. Stomach sensitive couple here, it was a awesome haul! Coupons!
@@hannahkayee831 I mentioned organic products because they cost more. So to get as much as I did, for $150 was awesome. Good for you and your stomach though.
These monthly summaries are super inspiring! I am totally going to track my grocery spending this way next year. It's a much more holistic view of grocery spending than I've taken in the past 😅
For reference....Costco has HUGE chocolate candy bags under Kirkland brand, but all the brand name stuff is in the bag...Less than $20 for like 1000 piece or some crazy amount like that.
Very interesting video, as always! Always like when your videos pop up! Here we don’t spend anything on Halloween candies because we’re christian, so no Halloween celebration ☺️
Our church does an alternative with a Fall Fun Fest, open to the public, free candy and game booths, Frito pies, nachos, and cotton candy. We hand out Bibles/tracts/etc., it's been a great outreach to the neighborhood around us.
Make Ricotta Cheese out of the bad milk - needs to be whole milk and heavy cream - lemon or vinegar and salt - something new to do and a way to use the milk. Just use a coffee filter if you don't have cheese cloth. Also you'll get whey as a by product and can add to a protein shake. You may have a learning curve, but you'll get it and flavor the whey w/chocolate or fruit.. Fresh ricotta and pasta, lasagna or manicotti is amazing!! Or stir into penne w/red sauce and sausage you had.. yummy!! Great videos!
1.) I spend zero on Halloween candy. We don’t get trick or treaters 2.) I’m in OH and have had the same souring problem with milk in Meijer & Kroger during August and September. Seems to be better lately. 3.) don’t knock tootsie rolls (that’s what I always collect as a parent tax- I love ‘em!😊)
Could you test a plant milk machine and make e.g. homemade oat milk? It may save a ton of packages and money if it's good. I thought of getting one but I am not sure. The milk may go bad because it wasn't pasteurised properly. 😕 You have an amazing neighbour.
We've had the bad milk problems here too for months! We switched to mainly almond milk due to cow milk sensitivity, but hubby likes it for coffee. It would be "off" two days after we opened it!
Awesome video! Loved the small to the larger grocery hauls! The price of eggs...unbelievably high so great your good friend gave you all some. I didn't have to buy any candy because we don't get trick or treaters. All over our small town there were tons of trunk or treat events for the kids.
I know you're allergic to bananas but....I peel my bananas and break them in half and freeze them in plastic baggies or a freezer safe dish and they thaw so much easier or I can pop them in smoothies.

Oh thank you!
Thanks!
Hi how are you?
You can save yourself so much money by mixing up powdered milk and not walking by all the other food in the grocery store just to buy a gallon of [expensive, these days!] milk. Love this tip! xox
OMG - the Milk!!!! Yes! I thought maybe it was a regional thing or even Indiana thing. It is sooo bad and frustrating! Thank you for talking about it.
same here in WV
I am LOVING your hair! ❤
Organic milk is one of the only few organic items we purchase. We’ve noticed that the expiration date is always a lot longer than regular milk, about 6wks. Totally worth it as it never goes bad on us. 😀
Hi Lizzy how are you?
Awesome! Amazing Video with great content. Also your hair looks amazing!
Nice! I did $150 for a house of two. (My other half and I) and we got ALL organic products for the entire month. Stomach sensitive couple here, it was a awesome haul! Coupons!
What makes a difference in your stomach for organic? I have a super sensitive stomach and just wash all my stuff and I'm fine.
Hi Rith how are you?
Sour milk can be used for baking
Hi Carolyn how are you?
NORM!!! Turd Ferguson!!! love you more now!
I LOVE these videos! Thank you for doing these!
You are so welcome!
For reference....Costco has HUGE chocolate candy bags under Kirkland brand, but all the brand name stuff is in the bag...Less than $20 for like 1000 piece or some crazy amount like that.
Peach IS the best flavor!🥰
Very interesting video, as always! Always like when your videos pop up!
Here we don’t spend anything on Halloween candies because we’re christian, so no Halloween celebration ☺️
Same with us!💛
Our church does an alternative with a Fall Fun Fest, open to the public, free candy and game booths, Frito pies, nachos, and cotton candy. We hand out Bibles/tracts/etc., it's been a great outreach to the neighborhood around us.
I wish I could do this in NY, but I have learned so much from you. I don't drive so hopping around is not really an option.
My father-in-law is an avid gardner who used to have a massive garden before he moved houses. I miss all the fresh produce we would get from him.
Hi Kate how are you?
1.) I spend zero on Halloween candy. We don’t get trick or treaters
2.) I’m in OH and have had the same souring problem with milk in Meijer & Kroger during August and September. Seems to be better lately.
3.) don’t knock tootsie rolls (that’s what I always collect as a parent tax- I love ‘em!😊)
Christine and family have a great week have fun great haul thanks from Oklahoma
I live in Michigan and our milk has been like that for the last few months too, ours is Meijer Milk.
I’m interested to hear how the hearts of palm items taste.
Could you test a plant milk machine and make e.g. homemade oat milk? It may save a ton of packages and money if it's good. I thought of getting one but I am not sure.
The milk may go bad because it wasn't pasteurised properly. 😕
You have an amazing neighbour.
Where do you buy these married down “returned” items? Do you have to ask stores if they have them? Thanks! You’re awesome’
Hi Catherine how are you?
Nice job. Thanks for the Garfield high lights. Happy Halloween.
Loving the longer hair look on you 😊 although, your hair is always really pretty!
Thank you so much
Agreed very pretty
We've had the bad milk problems here too for months! We switched to mainly almond milk due to cow milk sensitivity, but hubby likes it for coffee. It would be "off" two days after we opened it!
Hi Manda how are you?
Awesome video! Loved the small to the larger grocery hauls! The price of eggs...unbelievably high so great your good friend gave you all some. I didn't have to buy any candy because we don't get trick or treaters. All over our small town there were tons of trunk or treat events for the kids.
Hi Angeka how are you?
I know you're allergic to bananas but....I peel my bananas and break them in half and freeze them in plastic baggies or a freezer safe dish and they thaw so much easier or I can pop them in smoothies.
