Honestly Sonic Frontiers feels more of a "landing on their feet" so they can start to make something better. Especially evident by the way they bring up so many pre-colors stuff and fleshing out character personalities that they used to have. Frontiers is good enough, positive experience 7/10 (because I enjoyed cyber space a bit more and didn't mind the story being kinda weak)
Yeah I feel like the whole games goal was to do three things
1. Make a good game play style that MOSTLY everyone likes (it doesn't have to be the best thing ever it just has to work) so they can later work on it and improve
2. Show people coming to the Sonic series from the movies and new audiences that "hey look at all these things we can do in this game you might wan't to stay here"
3. Clear up the Sonic lore. Maybe its so the stories can get better, maybe it so something like Ken Penders dosen't happen again.
Yeah man this is going to be a "step on the right direction" Just like pokemon Arceus right? Oh wait scarlet and violet sucks because these huge companies never learn.
@@vingadivo8707 Please tell me you aren't one of the people who was defending Cyberpunk 2077 at launch. That game is not seen as a "travesty" now despite bricking consoles, so why does Pokemon?
@@genyakozlov1316 cyberpunk release was thrash and fixing it over a year later does not make it scamming players okay, Just because cyberpunk also did it doesn't make pokemon's bullshit any better. My favorite moment of the game was when Sonic said "Consider this your bad Frontiers!"
Bravo Vince
My biggest nitpick is the world design. There's so many random structures with no rhyme or reason other than for sonic to traverse them. They look unnatural, like their placement was an afterthought to the environment. It feels especially dumb after I've played masterpieces like BOTW and Metroid Dread, which both can really make the world feel alive and cohesive.
Sonic 1 and sonic 2 were the best
It's similar like FNAF Security Breach where the developers made the map first thinking it looked cool but last minute said, "OH SHIT, WE FORGOT TO MAKE THE GAME!!!" so that's why nothing feel cohesive in both these games cause instead of making stuff for the character to do, they made a pretty map
tbh i felt like they addressed that in one of the dialogues, saying that the land looked unnatural and lonely
The hyperrealistic art design is a problem, but the placement of the grind rails and other such structures should stay in my opinion. Maybe a little more cohesive, but I like that the world wears its gaminess on its sleeve in a sea of immersion-first open world titles and think future Sonic games should lean further into that.
That said, I didn’t play the game myself, so maybe you can take that opinion with a grain of salt. The friends I watched finish the game seem to agree with me though.
In what world is BOTW a masterpiece?
The sonic franchise is like the guy who puts all his skill points in charisma
Can't do anything but somehow smoothtalk my way out of a shit game for the 50th time, SOMEHOW.

Shadows stages are alright, tails’s sucks, knuckle’s sucks, eggman’s suck, rouge’s sucks, and it’s annoying that the dark side story gameplay is just a reskin of the hero side ones which seems really lazy (the game was rushed so I can’t blame the devs too much, but still).

The only Sonic game I ever played and really enjoyed was Mania. Even though I'm not a big fan of Sonic games I'm still hoping that he'll have an amazing 3D game one day.
As a side note, I'm impressed that nearly every Foekoe video finds a way to dunk on an unrelated game with a less than ten second clip or meme.
It's cool if you personally don't enjoy any 3D Sonic games but many of them are well-received (Generations, Colors, the Adventure games, etc.) I dont think it's fair to say none of them are amazing

Black knight needs more credit, Sonic with a sword is sick.
Not everyone can appreciate genuine masterpieces, and that’s okay (I guess)
Because they are mid once you play actually good games from consistently good franchises
I've been playing BK recently, and it's... honestly awesome. The gameplay isn't perfect, it can certainly get tedious at times - but everything else about the game is incredible.
The sword combat, while jank at times, is very fun and fast paced.
The music is incredible, it has some true underrated gems.
The aesthetics are wonderful and well-grounded, rather impressive for the Wii too.
And the writing? Genuinely the best Sonic has been written before Frontiers came along. It was the last truly good Sonic story and it perfectly showed off who the character is.
-Puts SA 1, 2 and Unleashed on mid.
-Puts Lost World there as well.

This title: exists
The toxic part of the sonic community : we were once bad but now we are worse
I just wish the boss fights in this game were more about being quick and moving around (like the ones in hyperlight drifter)
I feel like the reason people dunk on 3D Sonic so much is because his games are not nearly as approachable as other platformers. There exist no other games that quite like the 3D Sonic titles, and when people get thrown off by the more serious stories and admitted lack of polish, they start looking for ways to devalue them as much as possible. We've gotten to the point where the supposed "atrocities" of Sonic consist of Sonic 06 and Shadow the Hedgehog --which feel like beating a dead horse--and 3 spinoff games, one of which is decent. Games like the Adventure games are considered "mid at best", and Generations and Colors are conveniently always ignored. And now that he's finally starting to break the mold and innovate, people are quick to provide destructive criticism.
People aren't looking to Sonic with a genuine critical eye anymore. They just want him to fail and to mock him because his issues are more glaring, but no more prevalent, than other series. I have to stress that no game franchise is above slip-ups. Crash Bandicoot has tons of awful spin-offs. Hell, even Mario has had unpolished and frustrating games. I would gladly play Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Unleashed before I ever replayed Sunshine.
I'm honestly just fucking tired of people saying Sonic is inconsistent and bad when he really isn't. He's had issues and I'll never argue he's a triple A game series or anything, but his games provide something that can't be found anywhere else in the sphere of gaming, and I'll always be grateful for them for that.
For me bosses are an important part of a game, when I saw the bosses in this game i was blasted away by how good the ost implements them. Although I won't be playing the game the bosses were my favourite part
And by the bosses i don't mean the mini bosses i love the main bosses waaaay more

That looked more like a sandbox than an actual open world game.
i've also never been into Sonic, but the main problem with the games is that running fast isn't a fun game mechanic unless you design the game around that (like speedrunning games similar to Neon White and Cyberhook), but none of his games are designed around that - they're just platformers where you move way too fast.
and as you said in the video, the level design still feels like a dev build with all the floating structures and whatnot. Collect-a-thons are designed around precise and methodical movement, but Sonic can't really do that so it ends up not working.
i kinda liked the werehog levels in Unleashed because of the slower pace, letting me actually function and look for the collectibles and whatnot (though i played it on PSNow years ago, so i'd kinda handicapped myself lmao). I don't know why Sega hasn't leaned into his speed more and made something like Neon White - that would be peak Sonic imo.
I found the cyberspace levels to be really fun, actually.
The speed and flow of it usually feels really satisfying to master, getting S rank in time is a great feeling.
I tried my hardest to like them but I just couldn’t, the gameplay is plucked straight from forces and the level designs are from generations and unleashed, which means that traversing through the levels never felt quite right for me.
I got the S rank on every stage, Its very fun.
The cyberspace overhaul mod makes the stages bearable and actually FUN. The default controls make me want to play Forces again tbh.

I spent 6 hrs yesterday playing this game, completing the first area. After the giganto boss, I gotta go back
(2:48) This is something I can agree with Fok sense I understand the game is open world (while others call it “open zone”) these random sonic objects sprinkled around the game makes sonic frontiers look like a testing ground for controls rather then something a part of the map. Take Unleashed for example it’s hub world is a great representation of sonic world objects like springs, dash pads, and rails fit in so well and doesn’t feel like a lazy add on. In certain hubs they are even themed in sonic levels to fit the aesthetic of the level and makes it feel so much better and give you the feel of sonic running across the world. Frontiers is more on the mid side with random springs and dash pads thrown in there for no reason and calling it “ancient ruins”.

They say “don’t settle for less,” but when “less” is the only thing you’ll ever get…
Sonic games are known for the rewarding S ranks and replayable stages. For Frontiers the Cyberspace levels are not as replayable as other sonic games but you still have the satisfaction of learning the level design and Sonic's movement to get to the goal as fast as possible. I'm a big fan of the boost formula and i think the BEST implementation of this formula is in Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS, I'm not even joking. Getting the S rank is so cool and rewarding and is also required to progress into the story, and is the perfect introduction on how to properly enjoy Sonic games in general. You should give it a try!

you know the little jump rope missions? you can just skip them. holding parry in the air allows sonic to stay in the air infinitely so you dont have to even play
i think THE BEST thing that sonic frontiers can do rn is to fix its clonky movement, pop in and lag and the game will be much BETTER
Im having Post-Game clarity with frontiers
Its pretty mediocre
6:58 This is literally more sus than the hydraulic press vs baby joke ayoooo foekoe...
uh oh he pissed off so many sanic fans
Remember guys:
When your videogame franchise is running out of ideas or doing terrible
Make it go open-world
Weak joke sonic frontier is not open world like botw or other it's open zone
sometimes it works well like breath and the wild and sometimes it works horrendously like sonic frontiers and pokemon scarlet and violet
I remember saying that this game was BOTW 6 years after BOTW, and it's worse. Then some sonic fan getting insanely angry about it and saying something along the lines of "Sonic is WAY better then BOTW"
He's wrong.
That's a Sonic fan coping
I thought it was a step up, they wanted to be more ambitious and experimental with sonic and i enjoyed it. Apart from the ending. And the latter half of the story was a bit... anticlimactic. I didn't have any pop in problems on pc? at least not to the extent where parts of the level were unloaded as you show here. Perhaps it's exclusive to consoles? or i just didnt notice, i couldn't say
I remember the old title used to be called sonic fartiers 😂
