Juggulator is an underrated album. A lot of great songs on there, especially the last track, Cathedral Spires, which is my personal favorite. I hate how Priest pretends the Ripper era never existed. We have gotten reissues of every album on vinyl except those with him on it. Without Owens, I don't think the band would have survived losing Halford.
It’s Priest trying to modernise their music and sound more 90s thrash/groove metal. It didn’t work for me. I was looking forward to it but it’s uninspired. The solos remind me of Slayer solos. Not good.
I love Death Row! That intro cracks me up every time. Ripper's latest solo album has a song called "Return to Death Row" with a nod to this song. Good stuff!
Ripper Owens is now in KK's Priest, which is an awesome, old school and full on metal band. Maybe you could listen to some if you haven't already, after your Priest marathon. \m/ \m/ 🙃
This album sounds like 1997. It sounded great to me when it came out and I've been a Priest fan since the early 80s. I still like it. I tend to like heavier music and that's probably why I connected with this album more than Turbo or Ram It Down. I still think their best music came out between 1976 and 1984, but I still have an affinity for this album. I know a lot of people don't like it and i understand why. It's too different. Priest has been kind of all over the place since after Defenders Of The Faith and that has left a lot of long time fans feeling put out. You're only 2 albums away from the glorious comeback album, Angel Of Retribution. Hold on though, it's gonna be a rocky road through Demolition, my pick for their worst album ever, at least until Nostradamus.
It's a concept album about a serial killer it's why it sounds and reads the way it does. Demolition takes a different approach for sure, seems you may like that one better.
Thanks again for the excellent reaction. Again, Priest being heavy, but there is something lacking in the songs, for me just too dark and doomy. IMO The best is yet to come on the album with "Cathedral Spires", the last track, which is a 9-minute classic, still heavy, but with some lightness and melody..
I think it is the last album Priest really challenge their creativity.Since then they wrote some great songs but nothing to add something really new to their music.

It’s not Owens not being Halford. Just doesn’t sound like Priest all around.

Burn in Hell, Bullet Train and Cathedral Spires are the best on the album. Priest!

BTW, I believe it's Glenn doing the spoken word parts. He has a couple solo albums which are worth a listen if you haven't heard them.
