Guys, he hasn’t japaed. This is his “pre-japa”…Lol!
You said something remarkable here, that S. Korea was occupied by Japan, was 6 decades ago one of the poorest countries in the world, and is currently always under threat of war from N. Korea but look at the remarkable and consistent changes that they e made.
As a Nigerian national, this is hopeful for me b/c the world has not ended and there are many good things that are happening for our country now in spite of some of the bad things (like all other countries).
Discipline, humility towards each other, order, and fairness is what we need. It has worked for the Koreans.👍

As long as we respect and value money and material things above productivity and visionary growth, we just can’t develop. We have people aspiring to lead Nigeria who prefer to hold town hall meetings after medical tourism in foreign lands, whilst shunning town hall discussions in Nigeria. I have never seen the countries we copied democracy from campaigning in a foreign country and then beaming it back to viewers in Nigeria. It speaks loudly about what they think about the country they say they want to lead…

The most worrying thing about Nigeria is the fact that nothing is progressing, Nigeria of today is even worse than 30 years ago. In other countries they have nation building, steady progress/development year in, year out but in Nigeria the opposite is the case. Fuel scarcity every year's for a start, in any country they would put measures in place to stop it from happening again but in Nigeria, the next fuel scarcity would be worse than the previous year. Look at the environment in South korea and other developed countries, why would anyone leave such a place for Nigeria? Nigeria have clueless people for leaders, people that just can't seems to grasp the concept of leadership. If our country was half as decent as this why would anyone japa? Even without employment many would stay if government actually build a nation, infrastructures, beautiful environment for its citizens...Nigeria need a complete change of mindset, people that would start building a nation rather than their bank account. Enjoy your stay. Thank you.

I agree with you that travelling is a personal decision and migration is not for everyone.,but I need you to understand that life should not be all about money and financial gain a mindset that majority of us have as a result of the environment we were born into where the government has denied most of the citizens the basic necessities of life.Till the end of time people will always travel or migrate round the globe, that is why you see even people from countries that are doing well still travel. The only difference is that people from such countries travel or migrate for the experience they wish to gain, weather ,good jobs etc unlike majority of of nija who are economic migrants. You will never understand what it means to live in an environment where everything works even if you have no money .I sincerely hope Nigeria will get it right someday but I also know that every society is a reflection of its citizens.

I feel like we are too hypercritical as Nigerians. One of the major reasons South Korea was able to develop was because the US poured billions of dollars into SK as their allies to counter North Korea. They wouldn’t be where they are today without the US. Also we tend to compare Nigeria to countries that have existed for 100s or even thousands of years and have had all the opportunity to get things right. It took UK US, Canada, Japan and France hundreds/thousands of years to get to where they are now. Meanwhile Nigeria is only about 60 years old. Rome was not built in a day. There are only a handful of countries that have managed to become highly developed within a century like China, SK, Qatar, UAE, Saudi. Most others are just as bad or even worse than Nigeria.
Although we all know our leaders can do a lot better than they are doing right now, we should acknowledge the good sides of Nigeria. For one, I find it remarkable that a country like Nigeria with 200M+ people, 525 languages, hundreds of ethnic groups and a population in which half are Muslim and the other half are Christian have only been through one civil war. In any other region this would have made the country a basket case like Afghanistan, Iraq or Pakistan. Yet here we are still together the giants of Africa and the largest economy in Africa.
Things may be difficult right now but I believe one day Nigeria will get it right.
