- UP Union Pacific Runs to the Chicago Tribune at Grand ave Yard on Chicago, and Also switch out Morton Salt By North Ave Yard. They had to tow a car that was on the tracks too.
I go by there All the Time Though no more rail Service anymore Just the history and watching those Semi's Carting Scrap Metal to The General Iron Industries Scrap Yard on North Clifton was always a treat.
I work as a conductor for UP and yes Chicago is the railroad hub. If you wanna see a lot of switching, go to the BRC.
My favorite kind of railroading......industrial switching on small spur lines. Great video!
Thanks!
Great camera work and audio! I grew up in Chicago in the 50s, and have a vivid memory of a steam locomotive crossing a viaduct over Cicero Avenue in the winter, pushing a huge column of smoke and steam into the sky!
I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Chicago is the railroading capitol of America. How can people possibly not know it is a railroading town? Why did they pull that hopper car with a cable instead of using the coupler?
Thanks for the comment. And Im not sure, maybe they couldn't get the couple around the tight curve.
Happy New Year Andrew!
very cool video. thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Love your clips Joe!, nice to see real railroading where it all begins!
Amazing video. It sure is odd to see them pulling a hopper with some sort of rope
Now that's something new! Pulling a car with a chain. I'd have liked to see more.
+Michael Dougfir Yah I've only seen it done once. My only thought was that they did it because the car that they were pulling was on a curve.
I was thinking the same thing. At first I wondered if the knuckle on the covered hopper was broken. But it appeared to be coupled when they got it back to the yard. BTW, I just found your channel and subscribed. Thanks for posting these videos!
Hi, I’d like to know if this line is still used as of 2023
Awesome video 👍🏻😉
