For DIYers that haven’t tried this yet : DO remember to shift your drain pan a little bit past the drain plug it doesn’t pour down it shoots out by like a foot. I had mine in the wrong spot. Make sure the drain plug is directly over the edge of the drain pan and the rest of the pan is behind it.
With respect to the filter, you might be able to use a solo cup on the outside of it and contain some of that mess initially. It's something that's worked for me and I like to share where I can.
This is a great video. Saw another video on oil change on MDX and they only put in 5 quarts of oil. Just got an MDX and am 150 miles from nearest Acura dealer so will do as much maintenance as I can myself. Will bookmark this video as I am a quick forgetter!
The oil filter is placed in an awkward location, right above the frame rail. I take off the tire for easier access and then place a plastic bag funnel to drain it, trying to avoid pouring down on the frame rail. Sort of a pain, but contains the mess.
The Mobil-1 Extended Performance oil that I’m using in this video is in fact full synthetic, it literally states this on their site here: www.mobil.com/en-us/passenger-vehicle-lube/pds/gl-xx-mobil-1-extended-performance Regardless, you do know this video is about how to change the oil, not which brand to use…right? I don’t specify oil brand, only the weight, it’s up to you what you use, but so far two Pilots and one MDX haven’t minded the couple hundred thousand miles using Mobil 1. 😉
Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us how to do all this. 🎉

Great DIY game changer. Thank you
If you don't gotta cup, sometimes just a screwdriver puncture in the bottom will give you a cleaner drain hole...
Excellent video! includes all the details that are usually missed by others. Thanks!!
Thanks!

you know M1 is not 100% synthetic, right?
