Here's what Fender say about the Modern Player Telecaster Bass -
A classic Fender bass design returns with an unusual new twist delivering utterly seismic sound. The Telecaster Bass is back at last in the smart new form of the Modern Player Telecaster Bass, which boasts not one but two massive humbucking pickups. Features include an alder body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fretboard with 9.5" radius and 20 medium jumbo frets, dual Modern Player Wide Range humbucking Precision Bass pickups, three-ply parchment (Sunburst model) or single-ply black (Butterscotch Blonde model) pickguard, three knurled "chrome-dome" control knobs (neck volume, bridge volume, master tone), vintage-style bridge with four brass saddles, open-gear tuners and nickel/chrome hardware. Available in Two-color Sunburst and Butterscotch Blonde.
Oh my GOD! The part where you slide from F to G sounds like it could kill the front row of a stadium through the PA. I think I just fell in love with this!!
I wish they still made this bass
I've had this bass for about a month. It is everything Paul says it is. Admittedly, I was a bit reluctant to purchase a Chinese bass as my previous main basses have been Rickenbacker and Warwick. I also own a 2001 MIM Telecaster guitar and the quality of this bass does surpass the quality of my MIM Tele guitar when it was stock, which it no longer is. This bass looks good, feels good, sounds good and the price is right. If you are in the market, get it.
+Chris Wallace Do you know where i can buy one?
I have the jazz modern player and want one of these. I have toured and flogged the jazz since I got it new and it’s a beast
Thanks, it's really important to me when doing demo's that you hear the gear & not the room ambiance or amp tone etc thats why for basses I just DI them and get a good level with no clipping, you really get to hear the bass that way.
Stick
If I close me eyes this guy sounds like (British actor/comedian) Russell Brand.
Very good, but so underrated bass. Probably because it's China-made. I think for Fender is better switch China to Japan, or at least Korea. This will made such excellent bass more popular, especially among professional bass dudes
Notice how the adjustable pole pieces are positioned? Seth Lover gave a nod to Leo when he made these while working at Fender.
I like this bass
well done stick my old son great raw fat sounding bass have a cool day stick john wetton needs this bass man it rocks
Hah! Whenever I pick up a bass in a music shop, Badge is always the first thing I play.
Hey, Stick! Your nice review made me purchase this bass, but in a sunburst finish, but i'm still excited and wait for it so bad.
Cool
Stick
Wanted this for so long , still can't afford it , one day ! Great video
man that fender is raw and a big mean sounds lots of balls man
Go for it dude! Just send me the track!
Stick
3:24 It shows a PU very close to a neck sounds extremely cool.
Get whatever YOU connect with and feels right to YOU! Personally I don't think you can go wrong with a Jazz but play a few different models check the necks out. If you like more chunk at the nut then a P Bass or Music Man Sting Ray type. What sort of budget are you looking at?
Stick
Great review mate! :D Really wanted a review of this bass for ages!! It would be so great if you reviewed the Modern Player Jaguar bass :DD Great Stick! Props
Great to hear, thanks! It is more like a P-Bass but not like a baseball bat, more of a modern P-Bass.
Hope that helps
Stick
I forgot to really say in the video so sorry. As you can see, it's lacquered with a modern C profile slightly on the chunkier side but not a bass ball bat! Felt good and not to sticky despite the lacquer.
Stick
I wish fender would sell these pickups by themselves. The only way to get them currently is to find a pair from one of these basses (or the starcaster bass) or find one of the originals which can sell for a couple hundred bucks IF you can find one.
Modern Player is more 'me' but this beast would get used in the studio, great bass for tracking DI'd
Stick
Ok, I will see what I can do. A lot depends if they are in stock or not.
Stick
I wish they would make one in a 5 string version with:
1) 1 3/4 width nut
2) truss rod adjustment at the heel(like the modern player jazz)
3) bar string retainer across all 5 strings
4) thin edge tobacco burst(none of that old vintage ugly giant lemon drop in the middle crap)
5) no pickgaurd(why hide good grain??)
6) babicz bridge(giant telecaster bridge is a fail, strings too fat for that shit)
7) 3 of those humbuckers(bridge, middle, neck)
8) strat pickup selector
9) a nice deep fat C neck profile (not that shallow/flat, skinny edge shit that bites my joints everytime I reach for the E or B strings)
10) 7.25" fretboard radius.
You described my perfect bass
nicethugbert don't think this would work as a five string, this thing puts out frequencies so low that everything in the house rattles
so would this be good for a band like Minor Threat?
Great review and a lovely sound - what does it sound like with both pickups?
I have one, but the odd thing is I get a much louder response from some notes like a C (on A string) rather than other lower notes like a G (on E string). The strings feel wide-spaced, especially up at the 12th fret. I like my Precision and Jazz much better. Going to sell the Tele, but had some fun with it for sure.
+Rick Patts Where can i buy it? Or where did you buy it? just wondering cause i need one haha
I have one for sale!!
Richard Sadler. Hiya Sir, Man i did score it cheap used as where I live in Dallas, Texas there is a plentiful used market for guitars. I just thought tone was uneven, could've been my own fault for not properly equalizing the amp though. I ended up selling for $100 profit, then getting a 1950's Classic Vibe, also cheap at $150, but a net price of only $50 after selling this double bucker Tele Bass. The CV retains a bit more of a modern feel on the neck, lighter, and the single coil pickup, although it gets noisy on bright tone up and has more transient peaks than a split coil p bass pickup, I think it's meaner and whacks a tremendous low end thump better than the humbucking mudbuckers on the Fender Tele bass in this review. Just my humble opinion, Classic Vibe 50's is more fun, more playable neck, wicked respinsive tones you need to be experienced maybe to control with your hands (both) for the attack, tone and muting. Good luck!
Hi mate, I have the next two lined up but I will see what I can do after that!
Stick
Maaan! Wish I would be able to get my hands on one, it seems to be quite rare. (In Sweden atleast?)
Love your tone by the way!
cool stuff Stick, keep it up!
Thanks :DD Very good sound quality by the way...
2:36 the bass enjoyed that
Hey Paul. Can you make a video comparing the Gibson thunderbird and epiphone thunderbird?
What model was that sparkly colored bass with 24 frets at the background? I'm interested in it, looks so freaking awesome.
I can’t tell if that farty sound from the low end is the Amp in the video or if that’s the intense low end causing my phone speakers to do that.
Getting this bass tomorrow :D
Ohh... ok... thanks for answering
Was that riff around :17 Hugh Cornwell's "God Is A Woman" ? If so, thumbs up.
Desmond Teague "Badge" by Cream in 1968 or 69. Jack Bruce played it.
Look for a used bass (:.. you can often get a good quality bass for much cheaper than you would pay for if it was new..
The body is older? How old is it?? ;~}
I am interested on buying that bass. how is the neck ? more like a Jazz Bass or like a P-bass ?
best review on youtube
btw, thanks :)
Why there is no information about this bass on the fender official website? And where i can find it?
That little jam you are doing, is it from a song or is it something you made up? just wondering because i found it fun to play after seeing you do it.
I wants it
would this be a good bass for metal and punk?
For punk maybe. Metal might need something cleaner.
Perfect for stoner metal at least ;) or anything with lots of distortion i guess
Any Fender dead spot on the G string?
So true
Hey I'm going to get my first bass, what should I get? I already play guitar
HELLO . THIS A VERY GOOD TEST WHITHOUT TOO MUCH " BARATIN " . THINKS
Haha! The Ibanez 300 and the Sterling by Music Man RAY34, something a little more pricey there.
Stick
Mind if i use it? might form it into a song with some things i sprinkle on it.
Reminds me of A Gibson EB-3 sound wise.
Yes it does. Those old humbuckers. It also sounds a lot like Mel Schachers (old GFR) Jazz Bass, which also had a Gibby mudbucker/
They sure is mean, like having Mr.T in a bass!
Stick
I Play A yamaha TRB 1005, 374, 170 and there all malaysian and i wanna switch to this beaut

Check reverb
I'm sorry but this is the nicest tastiest instrument I've ever scene
Hey Stick... I know it's laquered, but does the neck feel fast?
what kind of equipment are you using? amplifier, cab, etc ??
+Daniel Toral He said it at the end of the video: bass into DI, split to his DAW and to the Ashdown combo.
I should’ve purchased that original telecaster bass II for $499 back in 1994. Shit.
sweeeet
Ya...
that british accent.
'Done'
Do you prefer this one or the Modern Player Jazz Bass? :o
what is the neck like?
A lot :)
Stick

What strings did you use for the demo? Thanks!
+PTS74 Stock strings
Paul
Uh? what about both pickups full on tone up Rock N Roll style man.

TheCluelesspanda Don't know, sorry

email me
Bernardo Franco I'm interested if it's still available. pm me
***** it is still available.
It is
entwistle hated these lol
Hoi mate, no not really on this one.
Stick
Clickity click :)
Gordon Ramsay plays bass??
So muddy... i hate those humbuckers
+Ernesto Lone Wolf why? i think its cool
Sega Tortoise i like clarity, and definition, with a bright tone, almost piano like ^_^ i prefer single coils, but for certain songs i agree humbuckers are rock tone monsters
Ernesto Lone Wolf i like a tone like john entwistle, but also one like this. But yeah, it varies on which song.
he said it at the beginning.. if you want clear tones, this is not for you.. this bass sounds best for face melting classic rock or blued or something like that, i could see myself using this for soul and some RnB type music
That is one useless comment I must say...
sounds like a p bass
They sure make some good bass's in China; but I'll keep my old vintage USA; not modern bass's to play!!! Bass's are like woman; under 17 years of age their not legal!! you cant make old!!
