Depeche Mode is more than a band. They're a feeling. A feeling we've all had at one point or another. And I'm glad they're there to say "You're not alone."

The darkness made us all find a way to connect and gain strentgh to make sense of ourselelves and life . Interpol dived into it and never resurfaced I guess .

I don't know why but I never had the other comments before zee amer's comment. Dave is the Mick Jagger of Electro-Pop. We never get tired to hear their first hits and never will. It's amazing to think that Depeche Mode have been in the music business for almost 40 years now and they keep breaking new barriers with their seemingly limitless creativity, ideas and sounds. This is a masterpiece that leaves me in awe!
Lee Seaman but annoyingly overlooked by the British music industry year on year, we see other 80s bands being hailed all the time but DM are always forgotten about. Duran Duran ? Could tie Dave's shoelaces.
Hi John, many thanks for your response. Depeche Mode's music simply hasn't aged, whereas the likes of Duran Duran merely belong to that time we call the eighties. Whether they've been overlooked to such a degree I'm not so sure because Depeche Mode have certainly received large-scale recognition over the years especially from their very cohesive and loyal fan base. Perhaps the British music industry is simply not giving them the limelight, but I guess that's what usually happens when a band like Depeche Mode make music of this high standard and complexity. They've moved beyond pop culture it seems.
The first time I listened to this song, without video yet, I said myself 'this is cosmic, universe, eternity, space', so they chosen very definite picture for it. Plus very deep meaning. Very Depeche Mode, no more words!
This is my favorite track on the new album. The fact that Depeche Mode is not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, doesn't speak well at all for the Hall of fame. Depeche Mode is in a league of their own anyway!
Another thing that bothers me is that Rock N Roll Hall of fame has their Roland Synthesizers from Early Depeche Mode days that were use on Speak and Spell, A Broken frame. Which is outrageous espically Depeche Mode is a big influence on so many Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands. No other EDM artist has that crossover influence like Depeche Mode.
Why does this song and video make me want to cry? I just saw DM at the O2 in London and when they played this song, it was just hypnotic and the crowd could feel it. Very rare to get a song like this that makes you feel this way. It was such a privilege to see them and great to see such energy from a band, even after so many years. Thank you DM for all the years of music.
Because this is a sad song. A so very sad song... And I just cried listening to it, before reading your comment. My wife left me not a long time ago... "I dreamt of us in another life One we've never reached." And this line hurts the most.
@@Terbie36 my heart goes out to you. The brilliant sadness conveyed by just that one line can and has moved your soul. Just know no matter what, we are ALL SUPERSTARS!!
@@natree9088 Unbelievably, I have only just seen these replies! 2 Years, wow! Me too re the drums, my partner and I were just blown away at the end of the song. Such a privilege to have seen these guys.
Unreal. After 35+ years DM comes out with some of their greatest songs and are more popular than ever. I don't know of any other band that has done that. Loved the concert in LV. TY!!!!
Brilliance clearly doesnt age, except to get better and better... their music is so f*cking good i bawl my eyes out just hearing it. And for no better reason than its just so f*cking amazing. Like seeing a deity in the flesh or witnessing a true miracle or something unsurpassable like that. In a world full of formula driven musical bs, how can we not feel blessed to be right here..
Cover me was from the first time I heard the song my fav Spirit... Just amazing!!! DM is the best, they helped me through many many countless downs and were always there. THANK YOU Dave, Martin, and Fletch for never giving up, no matter what...
Without Anton Corbjin Depeche Mode videos would not be as perfect as they are, simple but iconic at the same time. There are not many filmmakers who know how to create such symbiosis of visuals and audio. This is definitely one Clip I watch over and over again and to leave reality at least for a moment.
I can really feel this song & video. Deeply. The character Dave is portraying looks not old, but no longer young, and so, so lost. Bewildered. Disturbing that he appears to walk into the ocean at the end.
The video appears to be an homage to Bowie: Space Oddity/Major Tom --- Dave floating around in a space suit. Love this song & Dave's voice, it's so expressive.
I absolutely adore DM. It is just such an amazing band, i love them. They are anything but mainstream. All my friends (I am 14) listen to Pop, just because everybody else does it. You can discover so amazing bands. Like Depeche Mode. I don't know about the others here, but I "discovered" DM through old vinyls of my dad. But because I wasn't able to hear them I headed over to YT. I couldn't stop listening to it. A while ago I went with my dad to their concert and it was my best experience ever...
It's always been as you have described. Discovering music and not stopping at the radio's playlist and the current trends. It's always the best thing to do in my opinion.
I will always be gratefull to a friend, when back in early 80ties, gave me a tape with few DM songs on it. I was 12 maybe 13 years old that time. Now almost 50 with same addiction.
"Will you cover me?!", yelled Dave "Yesssss!!", we all cried... yes, we will, we love you, we love Depeche Mode, what an experience to see you live, what an honor! what a pleasure to enjoy such music, thank you!
@Pregyrus < Hmmm it too me a moment to realize the meaning "That's ironic" ... but yeah when DM started with their "dark" music way back when, and now they are the "light" in this "dark" ages of music. Yep!
I cried when DM played this beautiful song 3 days ago in their show at Estadio Nacional, Santiago (Chile) That was emocional, one of the best days in my life
Byron Depeche Mode indeed!beautiful song when you hear it live!I'm so lucky to be able to see them again in June in nyc!so excited to hear this song again
Ooohh that's cool, at least my dream came true because i saw them for the first time in my life (now i can die hahaha). Enjoy them so much as i did... dance, scream, cry, jump (especially in Personal Jesus and A Question Of Time), sing, etc.
Byron Depeche Mode you’re not alone!!! I cried when I first heard them perform it too. So much emotion and depth to their music. Much love and respect to you for feeling such amazing music on a deeper level than most.
What can you say about this song. It moves you, moves you on so many levels. When you can sit there listening to it with someone where you look at each other and no talk is needed but everything is explained through the whole song.
Wow! I was not expecting this. Seeing Dave, with his aged face, walking through a world he's been away from so long and maybe can't relate to anymore. Very moving.
I've listened to this song a dozen times. It wasn't until that 13th time that I realize what a really beautiful and powerfully understated song it truly is. And that's why I love DM. Just when you think you've heard it all, you really haven't. The music starting at 2:37 is very reminiscent of Vangelis and the end titles to the movie "Blade Runner". A possible homage to that frightening, yet wondrous decade of the 80's. To me, DM does not get old. They mature and explore. Endlessly explore. May they never stop.
Fantastic, beautiful song. Brilliant/sad video about a guy that is disillusioned with earth and wants to travel in space to find other planet with meaning. Makes his own astronaut suit. Hasn't got access to rocket so decides to walk into sea to get there. Genius and thought provoking. Love it when he patiently waits and traffic lights then presses button again. We've all been there..!! Top band that have moved with the times. ✌️
I interpret it a bit differently. He was once an astronaut, flew in space, did amazing things, and now that's in the past and his life is full of mundane (a word that itself means "worldly") details like waiting on traffic lights, and feels it will never measure up; so he decides to seek that feeling once again for a few moments. It's a very neo-platonic take -- that the world we live in is but a shadow of a greater reality -- but I fear not a life-affirming one.
Nice summation! I also thought of this song as a kind to tribute to David Bowie and his last beautiful contribution to our planet, Black Star!! You know Dave was discovered by the band singing Heroes. I feel this song serves as a fitting tribute to our "Star Man" from an "Immortal Band"!! How appropriate!!!
Got the vinyl for this single on pre-order. This great video plays on the tour during this song, for those who don't know: this seems to mark the first time the band have used a tour projection as a new music video, but that's great because this video is fantastic. Thanks, guys!
I don't have words to express how I feel when I listen to this. They always take me back to my childhood, to that particular moment , in that dining room at my grandma's house where that big tape player used to be. Over and over again I would listen to that famous 101 concert, on tape, until getting scolded by grandma because she always fought that I would mess up her dining room when l would listen to DM. Yep, that is how it all started. In that dining room, with that 101 concert. And 30 years later, I still have that exact same feeling, everytime I hear a DM song, since I 1st heard that 101 version of stripped. Passion, love, darkness, anger, hope, to never vive up, remaining positive and strong. DM made me what I am now, stayed with me when no one was around, made me understand what real music is. Even though I never saw them in real, dave, martin, alan and fletch always shared a part of my life. Today Dm means a lot to me. Indeed they are more than a band, they are a musical culture, a way of living. DM is a cult. DM my best friend.
A part from the song, which is so sweet and involving, I do appreciate Dave in the video as he is natural, no make up, no straight a pose... really Dave. Love to him and to Depeche Mode.
Love how he presses the button to cross twice. How he's patiently waiting for the light to change, even when there's no traffic, but presses the 2nd time out of impatience. Whoever's idea - small bit of directing genius
The Best Band ever, a real Jewel 💎 for those who are able to see all the beauty in their songs and their performances. So glad they exist, and I saw them!!
I think time allows us to appreciate Depeche Mode's work even more as the years pass. This song touches me so much differently now than when I had first listened to it........
When they started, we were young and they were men. As time passed, we all became adults, and understand each other much better. They make music about the things we also feel and understand.
@@timdyer5903 very well stated....... we look at our older influencers with much respect, much more than the current generation(s), mainly because those individuals are less restrained, more ambitious, and not scared of what others think. Something that is very much lost now.....
No one like DM. I remember a class mate dropping a cassette on my desk in 9th grade and said “take this home and listen to it.” The album was (Some great reward) it was a soundtrack that opened my life to The world of DM. I still love them!
I'm 40 years old and been listening to this band since I was in the 4th grade, some 30 plus years ago. My Step-mom had Catching up with Depeche Mode (essentially a US title only release) on cassette so that was my first exposure to their music. I thought it was so cutting edge at the time and never in my wildest dreams did I think they'd outlast their contemporaries, but here we are in 2020. What an amazing band, but I still prefer the stuff with Alan Wilder 1983-1995!
I love this band since the early 80’s. And I would buy their cassettes. I have seen them 3 times in concert but the one my parents didn’t let me go was in 1988 at the Rose Bowl. I think this band it’s amazing every instrumental sound, lyrics, and of course lead singer Dave Gahan😘😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️
They are the coolest band in the world. Dave is the ultimate cool frontman. Martin writes the coolest songs and coolest guitar riffs. And Fletch is the coolest hand clapper.
I Think it's the best song of the album. I love the voice of Dave Gahan, his sweet voice, I like the video clip, the message, etc... It's a beautiful song, a travel in space...

Thank you.
The time when the music industry acknowledges Depeche Mode is the day when they take a serious look at what came out after the Rose Bowl.
Simply the best!
I wanted to listen to this song today, and 3 years later it is even more beautiful. I am crying.

Indeed! Pure magic.

The first time I listened to this song, without video yet, I said myself 'this is cosmic, universe, eternity, space', so they chosen very definite picture for it. Plus very deep meaning. Very Depeche Mode, no more words!

So it's not just me ?
Joe Bondo I've always thought DM is a spectacular group you don't have to put yourself in the ground to be famous🤬🔥I love your comment thank you😉👽👩🚀
They have nothing to prove. They are timeless.
Joe Bondo they’re in! Please have Alan join.
I have no words ..... depeche mode is the hardest.👍👍👍
Music & words by GAHAN, GORDENO, EIGNER.
You're so right. I was there at the O2 in November and I felt the same way. Those drums at the end! I didn't want them to stop!
Because this is a sad song. A so very sad song... And I just cried listening to it, before reading your comment. My wife left me not a long time ago... "I dreamt of us in another life
One we've never reached." And this line hurts the most.
@@Terbie36 my heart goes out to you. The brilliant sadness conveyed by just that one line can and has moved your soul. Just know no matter what, we are ALL SUPERSTARS!!
We saw them at the olympic stadium 2017, brilliant.
@@natree9088 Unbelievably, I have only just seen these replies! 2 Years, wow! Me too re the drums, my partner and I were just blown away at the end of the song. Such a privilege to have seen these guys.
I'm crying right now... this is too beautiful. Long live DM!
God is light.
Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
I totally agree! It's hard for me to imagine the world without dm in it!
it happens only if you re a concept and stick to it, clearly you can hear the work in their music but at the same time it sounds simple.
There is actually quite a few bands who have done that...just not as well!
True Fact!
Cover me was from the first time I heard the song my fav Spirit... Just amazing!!! DM is the best, they helped me through many many countless downs and were always there. THANK YOU Dave, Martin, and Fletch for never giving up, no matter what...
I just can’t get enough of them xx
Same... beautifully said man :3
Without Anton Corbjin Depeche Mode videos would not be as perfect as they are, simple but iconic at the same time. There are not many filmmakers who know how to create such symbiosis of visuals and audio. This is definitely one Clip I watch over and over again and to leave reality at least for a moment.
When I had seen this video on concert, I started crying. This song is such a masterpiecie!
I AGREE. I CRIED TOO AT THE CONCERT!
Monika mrs it happened to me at each concert I saw. So emotional.

In a way it's a little like Enjoy the Silence too.
Sofie 2402 I started listening to them at 13/14 and here I am 30 years later still loving them! Glad you found them!
I love your dad. DM would be proud of him.
Sofie 2402 I want my son to be like you!
My kids love DM, they are 7 :-)
I will always be gratefull to a friend, when back in early 80ties, gave me a tape with few DM songs on it. I was 12 maybe 13 years old that time. Now almost 50 with same addiction.

Same here!! It was 1984, a friend loaned me her "Some Great Reward" cassette tape. I fell in love!!

"Will you cover me?!", yelled Dave
"Yesssss!!", we all cried... yes, we will, we love you, we love Depeche Mode, what an experience to see you live, what an honor! what a pleasure to enjoy such music, thank you!
The Gods smiled in these dark age of music and sent us a beacon of hope.
Thats ironic
@Pregyrus < Hmmm it too me a moment to realize the meaning "That's ironic" ... but yeah when DM started with their "dark" music way back when, and now they are the "light" in this "dark" ages of music. Yep!
I fell in love with them Live in Hamburg 1984. Born in 76. I had an awesome older brother! Soundtrack to my life

Been at your concert a few months ago...i heard this and i started to cry ... you're too good for this world!!! Love you forever DM ❤
Thank you so much lmL
i understand you, that's so nice and beautiful
What can you say about this song. It moves you, moves you on so many levels. When you can sit there listening to it with someone where you look at each other and no talk is needed but everything is explained through the whole song.

This is a masterpiece.

This was, is and will be the best song of the álbum. Thank you for this lovely song. Pure magic.
Great song!!!
if this was the best song how are others ....this is boring , DM should change their style an do some songs like Despacito
John Stromboly for your comment, I'm suppose you are a troll... but since everything could happen in this world, let me ask you: are you in drugs?
Louis Tolbar - yes , I'm just a lil' troll but this guy above me must be on drugs hesus maria did you read his comment ?

He has aged dramatically as you can see but yet his voice hasn't changed one bit. Pure talented person
He looks good for a man in the mid-fifties!!! Look at Mart with his face like a dried plum ;-)
He hasn't ages as well as I had hoped. Too much drugs and drinking.
I have been a fan of DM since 1988 and this is one of those songs that reminds me of a Violator B-Side.
THIS IS ONE OF 10 BEST DEPECHE MODE SONGS AND IT COMES 40 YEARS AFTER SHOCK !!!!!!!
I agree, definitely top 10 if not top 5

It was an another beautiful planet in our galaxy. I had the pleasure of living on this planet....
It was a terrible regime that subjugated other countries and forced their system on them.
your comment is amazing...thank you!
This is how I feel almost every day. And I live under northern lights. This song is amazing. I love DM
10 years ago I became a metalhead but I always love to come back and listen to DM, there is just something about their sound that's so destinctive
Yes and this is the different between them and a lot of other bands that try to make this kind of music. Their sound is immediately recognise

DM + Corbijn = Magic.
DM + Corbijn = 100% DM
This proves the talent that Señor Gahan possesses.
A friend of Depeche Mode is a friend of mine.
A part from the song, which is so sweet and involving, I do appreciate Dave in the video as he is natural, no make up, no straight a pose... really Dave. Love to him and to Depeche Mode.
First band I ever loved. Didn't think they could stretch the envelope any further... but balling my eyes out yet again. Living legends.

What a wonderful group of musicians, who have evolved without changing.
If this is not the most beautiful thing in the world, I don't know what is. Absolutely in love with this amazing piece of art and the song!
Remember, there's also 'Enjoy the silence'. But yeah, I'm in love too.
Oh absolutely, I do remember, how could I forget!

One of the best songs from Depeche Mode.Love them forever!
