PRR K4s #1361 on a Crew Training Run back in October 1987. Footage is from "The Pride of Altoona" by Mark I Video 216.158.107.193/mark1video/StoreFront.bok
It's a true shame that PRR 1361 experienced operational issues after only one year of excursion service, I would really love for this locomotive to be returned to operating condition again.
They did finish what they were supposed to do. The parts are headed back to the finished roundhouse at the museum to finish restoration to operation. Its on their own website as of 2013
She is indeed Juniata’s jewel I got to see her boiler and tender in the roundhouse at Altoona there were what looked like new floom pipes next to her which is promising
@boberttrain831 true man, true. And they'd do it well. Although i think it is a somewhat good idea for the museum to put it back together after the boiler repairs, that way they would have a better understanding and be able to do the rebuild themselves intead of sending it away every time it needs repairs. Kinda like the Fort Wayne historical society and NKP 765.
I do have a question how well do you think the 1361 would do on Sherman Hill? In Wyoming from all the videos I have scene on the 1361 I think she would do pretty well
Yes I know. What I said in that comment was only if Steamtown worked on it as well.. I think it would have been finished by now if Strausburgh did it..
1361 at strasburg are you crazy shes way to big for the railroad and it is very hard to keep a k4 under 35 plus all the great stack talk here would dissapear because of the wooden coaches and the heavyweights that would have to be used in order to get the classic k4 sound would be to long for the passing track. what we should do is instead of wasting our time on these computers we should go out and try and work on her and try to run her again. eh?
She still needs to go to Strasburg or anywhere in Pennsylvania she can run at it just depends but she may end up at Strasburg because lirr 39 won't be restored for a while and chances Strasburg 31 won't be operating again they should either sell 31 to the Pennsylvania railroad museum or to another railroad where she can run again.
That’s all in the past. The 1361 is in better hands now. Wick Moorman and Bennett Levin are board members of the Railroaders Memorial Museum and contractor FMW Solutions is assisting the museum in the restoration.
@Derek Mullins Probably neither of those. I just said the museum is projecting 3 to 4 years from now. However the more donations made the sooner it’ll operate. I have donated hundreds of dollars to this project and others should send their donations to the project too, so that we all can experience a legendary K4 steam locomotive in operation.
1987 was a glorious year because two historic icons of railroading returned to service, 1361 and 1218.
My god that whistle is absolutely amazing!
Perfect candidate for the new NS steam program. I would go to Pennsylvania in a heartbeat to see the 1361 storm around Horseshoe Curve.

1987-1988 1361's second career.
Love those plumes of smoke and steam - running them on oil they run cleaner but just not the same. Great video - thanks for all of your posts!
greatest...stacktalk...ever.

I was there in 1987 (VAIL), and am still waiting to see it again. Perhaps in another 36 years my kids can see it.
Well, in the meantime, they're a little busy with 39, but I'm sure Strasburg could get the 1361 up and running in a few years.
@xxxDeath9572xxx they did restore it it sits at the altoona railroaders museum
Not my footage, it's just a clip from a different Mark I program.
Oh thats a super good video thanks
God only if Steamtown could Get her restored!
1361 needs a new boiler. Why couldnt steamtown think of that before??
not anymore... the boilers at EBTs shop now, frame left steamtown last year.
This, the Queen of North American Pacifics, must be up and running.
Yes indeed.
Thunder did u know she's running again soon

They would go nuts now too. lol

😍😍😍😍😍😍
I really wish everybody would just pull their heads out of their asses, shore up their pride and get this beauty going again!

if this isnt hardcore i dont know what is
@deloreanman14 She's practically an icon of the state of Pennsylvania, It's a no brainer that she shouldn't be sitting in a shop in pieces
Powering against the train brake eh?
any idea when LIRR 39 will be done?
Hopefully before 2048. At the moment, her restoration is on hold due to lack of funding.
@@MackeyBigBoy4014 1361 will be restored a lot faster if they send it to Strasburg and 31 isn't running again
@@blackpanther1013 I think once 1361 is done one of the places they are going to run her is Strasburg

if only they would they'd finish 3713...
Vare rare footage. Nothing even remotely close to grand they were in service pulling express trains.
Hey Dan! You still around?

In pieces. Steamtown put a new boiler jacket on it and that is it.
It sucks they half-assed the original restoration.

@Derek Mullins Pennsy 3 chime
@Derek Mullins The museum estimates 3-4 years, but if more and more donations come in, the locomotive will be ready sooner than that.
