SHORT GAME SERIES | HOW TO USE THE BOUNCE - THE CORRECT WAY!

- USE THE BOUNCE... That’s what all the best short game players do, right? But what does that term mean? And how can you benefit from learning to “use the bounce”?
Wedge bounce is the angle created between the leading edge and the lowest point of the sole or trailing edge. This is the area of the club that hits the ground as it contacts the ball. The greater the wedge bounce degree, the higher the leading edge is off the surface at address. Having the proper wedge bounce and grind option promotes optimal contact, control, and ball spin.
Learning to “land the bounce” on the ground is the skill that separates the best short game players from those who struggle with making solid, consistent contact.
This video contains a coin drill inspired by PGA Tour player, Brett Rumford, and can help you develop the essential skill of low-point control and arc height/depth which will allow you to master the strike from any type of lie around the green.
If you try this drill, make sure you let me know how you got on in the comments.

Thank you Rob. Great video.
Great drill. You should do a video on the 40, 50 and 60 yard shots. Is it just a shorter swing etc?
Great drill.....once mastered will help....but i find that there is no real life practice facilities to practice this shot....50 y
Great instruction again. This time the given drill to work on is not easy. I will try to do it. Thank you Rob.
Brett Rumford - the best short game player I have ever seen. Endorsed by many PGA players , including Rory McIlroy.
@@golftecasia hopefully Singapore and Australia will form a bubble and I can get up from Perth for a lesson /holiday. No stack and tilt instructors here.
Just love your butterfly grip and the action of your short swings. Expert. Thank you
Please I need help with my Hybrids 4 5 6 and my fairway woods 3 5 . Any videos you have made on this . Please only ones I am have trouble with . Thank You
@@golftecasia Thank you. Great videos. I love the details and your short game videos are unbelievable thank you.
Great drill, Rob! Thanks! I always need to work on my short/wedge game!
Meant to say great video .. well demonstrated 👌🏌️♂️thanks rob
Clipping the coin is not easy. To get consistency really takes practice. Can the coin drill also be said to improve your iron impact consistency with all clubs? All clubs have a flat bottom, but could we not kind of call it a bounce as well?
Makes a lot of sense! Thanks again.
Super video - you already fixed my long game, so I'm focusing on the short game now. Question: to transition from coin drill to actual balls, we should just imagine the coin is right under the ball (not target side - like the similar coin drill you'd do on a full swing practice)?
Pros on tv constantly have tight lie conditions on fairway
Great video as usual. I try and land the back half of the sole versus trying to perfectly nip the ball. Gives me lots of room for error. That’s how I use the bounce.
Really loved this drill. Only missed the coin once completely. Most times I hit it straight ahead instead of bouncing up like most of yours did. This would be a good drill to practice before I go out for a round.
Hi, Rob, what adjustments, if any, are required for softer ground?
Hi Rob, I will test this coin drill and let you know soon....Obviously it makes sense to use the bounce than leading edge for wedges based on the talk that you may dig the leading edge or blade. So, if this is true, than how do you time the use of the bounce?...In my case, I do not and cannot time , but I know I used the bounce...it just happens...but there must be ways like an appropriate setup or backswing so that I can use the bounce....for instance some say open the clubface...??..For instance in your video here you hing up but not sure you do it because you want to use the bounce.....Any thoughts how to use the bounce better...Thanks
Hello, with opened club face it is easier for me.
I now know after 40 years of playing golf how to use the bounce .. my chipping has been week and still is .. but when I practice it goes well 🤔🤷🏿
Hello Rob-Very interesting and I might say challenging. What degree of bounce did you have on that wedge? And lacking a mat here in the country, how about using whiffle balls? Be good, be safe.
@@golftecasia -Thanks Rob, you are the best!
Great lesson Rob, lost a lot of money here…. 😆
BR has spent way too much time in the sand!! The Sensei of the Short game!!
