Hollywood has been doing 360 for a long time, but mainly for "invisible" VFX background plates and VR stuff. The "wacky" shots that are typically seen from these prosumer 360 cameras aren't that useful for most Hollywood films, except for maybe very specific quick cutaways/montage type shots. The main issues against Hollywood use of cameras like the Insta360 are the relatively low resolution for any chosen rectangular view, poor low light performance as well as limited colour &dynamic range, exposure & codec control. However, Hollywood 360 rigs can weigh well over 40kg with 5 or more (I've seen ones with 14!) cinema grade cameras and lenses costing many $1000s to rent per day. For the price, the Insta360 X3 & similar are still incredible, tiny and insanely affordable high quality image capture devices - I can definitely see indie & low budget filmmakers using Insta360 X3s!

This is actually exciting technology! I upgraded from the GoPro Hero 4 to the Hero 10 and it's a huge jump yet I still prefer the Hero 4, I only upgraded out of necessity because the aftermarket batteries would not hold up. But this 360 camera is actually inspiring that you can capture really unique angles.
i feel like this would be great as a dashcam. like if you put it in the middle of the dash in between the front two seats and get in any kind of accident, you can get all angles of it without having to manually twist the camera around which would probably be too late anyways
I thought of something like this roughly 15 years ago. I thought it would be amazing if someone could mount 4-5 of these at a wedding and you can basically revisit a moment in the wedding and any angle.

It's ability to stitch the two images together it's quite incredible although I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually added two more cameras on the sides
They are not needed. I have an older version of the Insta360 and I often times have the side of the camera facing myself and you see no difference at all
I know it's crazy. This tech hasn't changed at all except for their software and they added a touch panel. It's literal 6 year old tech, rebranded. @@jmasked5082

Can't stress enough how underrated I feel Insta360 cameras are, in my opinion. Indeed, one of my best investments in any camera so far. I have been using the OneX2 for just over 7 months of regular shooting, and nothing impresses/gives me comfort more than knowing that I can keep the camera at any angle without worrying about missing a shot on the other side of it, CAUSE IT SHOOTS 360! I technically get to capture all perspectives. And in a lot of ways, I feel like investing in this felt better than in my GoPros... P.S. You do get a desktop application as well if you're wondering
is the quality good thought? Even in this video is kinda pixelated. I like the concept of it very much, but it seems like quite bad 1080p to me, and that's just not an acceptable resolution in 2022.
@@Jimmy_The_Goat 1080p is a perfectly acceptable resolution but it has to be good quality 1080p with minimal noise and artifacting. The output from these things is definitely not as sharp as a newer gopro or a modern phone to be sure and what was shown in this video is not the best demonstration. These cameras need a lot of light to get a reasonably clean image and you need to be "zoomed out" a fair amount as well to increase the effective pixel density, because of how the FOV works with the 360 cameras this means that things in the foreground are substantially clearer than the background and more distant objects. Additionally, you get much better results if you use the desktop app to render and many people go further and tweak the video rendered by the insta360 app a little in their video editor. There are no one size fits all solutions and this definitely isn't a total replacement for all other cameras but it does have the ability to get shots that arent possible with other cameras and for action sports and casual vlogging type stuff it allows you to focus on what you are actually doing and not worry about framing the shot because you can always go in after the fact and reframe. This combined with the 360 video essentially giving you gimbal level stabilization and the insta360 has some interesting pros to balance out the cons. I am a little disappointed that the X3 doesnt really seem to offer much improvement over the X2
@@saleplains I appreciate the comment, lot's of really useful info, thanks! So I have an iphone 12 with DJI Osmo gimbal, and now I also want to get an action cam. My main purpose is recording what me and my friends do whille we travel. I am not really intending to share this publicly, but I am somewhat of a quality perfectionist in all things, so I am concerned about the resolution (perhaps unreasonably). When I found out about the X3 I was absolutely thrilled about all the cool shots I could do. Then I watched some non-sponsored reviews and the quality seemed substantially worse. Also from video to video there's a huge difference in footage, perhaps it's due to the factors that you describe. Then I looked at the gopro, it has nice footage but it's a lot less versatile. I am thinking that if I were to get the gopro, I would still probably go for my iphone (+dji gimbal) most of the time, because it just films better video. I would use the gopro when we do water related activities or go hiking, but like, the amount of time I would want to use it is probably quite limited, since I would have to activley think about filming. I am not a videographer and I don't want to invest too much effort in the process to the point that I become detached from the experiecne. If I were to get the X3 I could start it up and forget that it's there, then just point the camera in the needed direction in post. Also it allows you to get some insanely fun shots. At the same time, I am worried the quality of the footage will just dissapoint me and I wouldn't want to film because of that. On top of that, the lens seems quite fragile. I don't want to think about not breaking it all the time instead of enjoying the moment. idk, not an easy choice. What would you say given my situation? I can afford to get both, but again, this is for personal use. I don't want to carry a backpack full of filming equipment on every vacation.
@@Jimmy_The_Goat why not just get both and if one is more disappointing than the other return it. I’m thinking of getting an Insta360 GO 2 cause like you, I’m just going to use it to film my travel and extracurricular activities but I don’t want something bulky or that will take me out of the experience….but then again the X3 is so cool but I don’t really need those kind of shots and it’s out of my budget rn
As usual, you have the best perspective on this camera. Other RUclipsrs have also demo'd this camera, but you always bring in an extra level of depth. Definitely considering leaving GoPro

LG had a 360 cam almost a decade ago that had an auto leveling feature. Granted it was only the front lens, and it was a bit choppy. But it was still very handy. You could mount it at any angle and the center of the processed video from the front lens would always be center and level. Not bad for being an early 360 cam.

Perfect timing. I just lost my $400 insta 360x2 while riding ATVs at Winchester bay Oregon on a road trip. Sad I lost an expensive camera in the dunes but hey...now I have a reason to buy this new and improved version.
Designing it like a small thin phone is actually genius so that it operates like someone using a phone but with way more features. I think that cam was used in a video just a few days ago done by Red Bull and some cliff diver ?? (not Eng, dunno how its named, sorry) who jumped from the ramp and another throw the stick with the cam on the end which followed the jumper when he did tricks in the air. Great footage, that just made me think of possibilities that such a small, durable device can do with the quality it can shoot
The stitching is great for something captured more than 4 foot away from the camera. Anything that came in too close get worse. Basically, it's a great HDR/Environmental mapping tool.

You will be able to turn your head and look next to you, behind you and get the feeling you are there.
Thanks for adding the use cases for the camera. Also, pretty sweet graphics to help convey how the two lenses work together to capture the 360° view. The graphics reminded me of the visuals in Return of the Jedi where Mon Motha is describing the plan for defeating the new death star.

The one X2 is great, and the upgrades for the x3 are good with the exception of the lenses vulnerability to scratches. Hopefully the next one has removal lenses.
This is like replay system from games brought to real life! You can edit from any angle of perspective after you have recorded a footage, so you don’t feel like you missed something important that would otherwise be a concern for other cameras. Very cool technology
It's pretty cool that the camera can basically make itself invisible "on camera," however, it doesn't take away the shadow of the camera and the selfie stick. I saw someone else demonstrating this feature and it looked like they were walking around with a clinched fist. 😂😂
I am happy with my Insta 360 One X2 which is good enough... but the major downside is how easy it is to damage these cameras as the lenses are protruding out and you always have to be careful about how you store it when not in use. Also using it on a selfie stick behind a motorcycle is sketchy as it weighs quiet a bit This was my unsponsored 2 cents

Would be great to pair the A.I. up with an audio input and use this camera for hybrid meetings. I.e. you set this camera up in a conference room where the virtual people would be. Then when people that are in person at the meeting speak, it would trigger the focus on that person so the home audience sees that person automatically. Idk...I see loads of potential with this amazing little camera.

These look so fun and the results are pretty impressive, i love the large touch screen on the body, it just makes everything a tad easier

I'm curious what you liked about the 4 better than 10? I went from 8 to 10 and it was a huge leap forward I thought
This is simply amazing! Love those visuals wow. Best channel on RUclips hands down
I've had this camera since 2015.. good to see your reviewing it now.
You had a camera that came out in late 2022 since 2015?
i feel like this would be great as a dashcam. like if you put it in the middle of the dash in between the front two seats and get in any kind of accident, you can get all angles of it without having to manually twist the camera around which would probably be too late anyways
I have the Insta360 R and it's amazing. The editing software is also incredibly intuitive and can be done in app

I have an older version of the Insta360 and I often times have the side of the camera facing myself and you see no difference at all
Why every1 commenting like 360 cameras haven’t been stitching for 6+ years.

Definitely considering leaving GoPro
doesn’t it go pro do the same thing now tho?

The video angles shot from the Insta360 makes everything looks like a video game
LG had a 360 cam almost a decade ago that had an auto leveling feature. Granted it was only the front lens, and it was a bit choppy. But it was still very handy. You could mount it at any angle and the center of the processed video from the front lens would always be center and level. Not bad for being an early 360 cam.

Designing it like a small thin phone is actually genius so that it operates like someone using a phone but with way more features. This could also make a really good in-house survailence camera since it covers the entire room. Also DJ/Festival sets would be very cool on this. I wonder how much memory it takes up.

This is beautiful to watch the advancements and practicality of a 360 camera
I think that cam was used in a video just a few days ago done by Red Bull and some cliff diver ?? (not Eng, dunno how its named, sorry) who jumped from the ramp and another throw the stick with the cam on the end which followed the jumper when he did tricks in the air. Great footage, that just made me think of possibilities that such a small, durable device can do with the quality it can shoot
The stitching is great for something captured more than 4 foot away from the camera. Anything that came in too close get worse. Basically, it's a great HDR/Environmental mapping tool.
These are such great graphic elements in the video 🙌🏾🙌🏾

The Quality of these Tech videos is just unmatched to anyone out there!
I am happy with my Insta 360 One X2 which is good enough... but the major downside is how easy it is to damage these cameras as the lenses are protruding out and you always have to be careful about how you store it when not in use. Also using it on a selfie stick behind a motorcycle is sketchy as it weighs quiet a bit
This was my unsponsored 2 cents

Would be great to pair the A.I. up with an audio input and use this camera for hybrid meetings. I.e. you set this camera up in a conference room where the virtual people would be. Then when people that are in person at the meeting speak, it would trigger the focus on that person so the home audience sees that person automatically. Idk...I see loads of potential with this amazing little camera.
