I love your ranking series! Some of these Dragon Ball games are pretty obscure! I'm looking forward to see all the Dragon Ball games ranked eventually!
Playing the Super Famicon\Megadrive titles on emulation was such a huge part of my childhood, not to mention all those MUGEN titles using their assets.
@@overratedstarlordgaming5106 Globku was playing the French version. Piccolo is called Satan in a lot of european Dubs, including the portuguese one - which is the one i watched as a kid. A lot of european studios translated the dialogue, character names, etc from the French version, instead of the original. Mr. Satan on the other hand goes by Hercules. Dragon Balls are refered to as "Crystal Balls", Saiyans are "Space Warriors", and Super Saiyans are "Super Warriors". As for the names of Freeza and Vegeta being incomplete, that's prolly just a mistake from the game
@@paulogranja1544 That's really interesting I grew up watching the latam dub so I know most characters by their original names. Though this seems familiar to saint seiya we're the French dub influenced all the other ones.
Since you covered Ultimate battle 22, I feel you should cover Shin Butoden on the Saturn. It's practically a remake of UB22 and, considering how infamous that game is in the west, people might be interested in seeing a pseudo-sequel. I know you said you weren't gonna cover Japanese games, but since you covered that computer game I feel you can also make an exception for this one.
I think it's funny in the first game they couldn't figure out how to make flying seem legitimate and they treat it more like you're still on flat ground, you're basically just walking. The sequels added small touches to make it feel like you're floating mid air, like a little wobble and their legs dagnling a bit, which makes a big difference in feel.
Despite Ultimate Battle 22 being bad in the gameplay departmen, the whole OST is outstanding! Some of these songs are so badass and they all fit the characters.
Butoden 2 came out in 1993, which was the year that Gohan turned Super Saiyan 2 and the Cell Jrs, made their debut. It was also the year that the Broly AND Bojack movies were released. That's why Butoden 2's roster is the way it is.
I'm pretty certain I did throws in Buyuu Retsuden. Goku's throw in particular even comes up in some of my recorded gameplay. Perhaps the execution is a bit difficult, or maybe they're more difficult to do in Turbo mode?
There are throws in BuYuu Retsuden! :( . You can even land on your feet when getting thrown or dive back at the opponent and attack while you do so and when characters dash into each other and clash you can mash the punch button to throw the opponent. When Goku and Vegeta fuse in Ultimate Battle's intro they're not wearing the pothalas, if you pause the video you'll see.
The legacy of goku series on gba are my favourite DBZ games ever. There's also dragonball advanced adventure too. RPGs quite different. Would love to see you rank those.
Hopefully you’ll get to these, but I would love to see you cover both “Dragon ball z: Legendary Super Warriors” and also “Dragon ball z: Attack of the Saiyans”. While the latter is more of a JRPG, both are turn-based dragon ball games, which not only are those super rare in the Dragon ball “gaming universe”, but for me were super fun and engaging 😁
Super Butoden 3 feels rushed because it was. The Buu saga had just begun, so the lack of characters was because others haven't really bren introduced yet and the lack of story mode was because they didn't want to spoil (also probably to rush it out faster).
Since you're taking a break from DB fighting games for this series, maybe consider covering the RPG games for the GBA. I remember playing and loving them growing up, but nostalgia is a bitch
I still replay the DB GBA games like once a year, and I think LoG 2 and Buu's Fury still hold up really well. Also, not an RPG, but Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure easily gets my vote for the single best official Dragon Ball game ever made.
The only one of these I ever had a chance to play was Ultimate Battle 22, and I was pretty disappointed I spent my money on it as a kid. Having to save money from birthdays and Christmas to maybe buy a game or two a year is a big part of what I think made this game sting even more. I didn't have internet as a kid, hadn't learned about any magazine yet like Game Informer and whatnot back then, so a lot of purchases really ended up being based on demos I could try at a store, demos we got in the mail, or just buying a game from a series I knew I already enjoyed, be it Final Fantasy or, in this case, Dragon Ball. I had already played Budokai and the first two Legacy of Goku games at this point, so Budokai had set that bar in my child mind of what a Dragon Ball fighting game could be. Epic music, great cutscenes retelling the story, some fun game modes, etc. I know it isn't super fair to compare them, but as a kid it was just a mindset of "I love the PS2 Dragon Ball Z game, and I still love old PS1 games, so this Dragon Ball PS1 game will be great!" I only played it a handful of times, trying out different characters and whatnot. It was by no means a bad game, but I didn't know it wasn't going to have a story mode or anything to do outside of general fighting and it just wasn't what I was looking for back then.
Thanx for the good memory i played so much to the butoden series when i was young, the games were amazing and i didn't realize back then that the gameplay was somewhat bad xD I just loved being able to play a game about Dragon ball :) ahhhh the 90"s it was so amazing for fighting game the street fighter / mortal kombat in arcade, the amazing samurai showdown on neo geo. I remember i couldn't believe my eye when i seen some game that to me looked like the arcade version on my home console .... Ahhhh the memories :)
everyone keeps saying this in the ultimate battle 22... you do not need cheats to unlock all the characters... you have to build up your character, every time you complete a full circuit of fighting every single character, the roster resets and adds one of the locked characters.... so to get all 5 characters, all you have to do is complete the full roster 5 times. and all locked characters are yours..... not to mention, the character you chose for it will be massivly powered up at that point. there is a specific order to fight them in aswell, as you start at level 1, first character you fight is level 2, you gain that level once you beat him, if your good, you can beat the last character, ( lvl 22 ) as your first match, thus making you immediatly lvl 22 max level i believe is 110
For multiplayer yes! And single player it's my second favorite. For soundtrack and single player DBZ BT2 Did it better IMO. Also Ultimate Tenkaichi let me down so hard.
underrated? it's by far the most overrated db game ever. not to say it's bad but the mechanics are incredibly busted and everyone fawns over it because it has "160" characters even though most of them are transformations and nobodies from the show. it feels the most like dragonball for sure but it's a terrible fighting game
@@fentimablader your criticism is fair despite that I think it's more of a character balance problem than the fighting system itself. It's not perfect, (I broke probably 2 conches versing my friends) because it is mashy and formulaic, but that is what made it awesome imo. Like keeping a combo going is actually HIGHLY character specific (unlike storm) and I liked beam struggles being mashy and ridiculous. It feels dragon ball z af. The problem is the inherent stats in each character (attack, defense, speed, blast etc.) makes the nobodies like Guldo and Turles suck like you were saying. I love Tenkaichi and while it wasn't as good a story mode as Storm games, it WAS a better arena fighter. And dragon ball is a great franchise to make an arena fighter because they can fly. I just realized the Z homies have a Z axis of movement in tenkaichi. Ok I'm done. My bad, Tenkaichi 3 is my favorite versus game ever so I had to cuck myself for it. But your character balance point is very fair.
You could play next dragon ball kai attack of the saiyans, a personal favorite. And talking about ds games, you missed some from the ds, but i guess that was the objective. For example there is the extreme butoden game, which i guess is from the butoden series.
