  • I'm Rebuilding the Crossfire throttle bodies on a Corvette this will be a 4 part series in which will I do the following, 1) Drivers side 2) Passenger side 3) adjusting fuel pressure 4) Synchronizing the two throttle bodies. This is the same process whether you have a C3 or C4 Corvette or a F body car.

Knock on wood I haven't had to do this yet - amazingly still originals without issues - really the only parts that haven't been rebuilt/replaced (damn I hope I didn't just jinx myself)! These really aren't any more complicated than a carberator, but they have their own mystique which I think keeps people from getting in and rebuilding them correctly. At least you can still get the kits as many other pieces parts are not unattainium (i.e. EGR solenoid). I'll keep this bookmarked as it's obviously not if but when I'll be repeating this process. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.

Ya, they really aren't bad at all. Thanks for watching! Hopefully you have subscribed because I have 3 more coming out in the next couple seeks on how to finish the process.

One thing I'd like to mention is when you do put the driver's side gasket back on the regulator, you can back off the spring's tension first and it makes it much easier to assemble and you get the gasket lined up and installed flat, vs shoving down on it can deform the gasket edge during assembly and cause a leak, ask me how I know. Then once the regulator's gasket perimeter screws are tightened back down you can just adjust the spring pressure back to where it was. Usually I just mark the outside of the regulator with my fingernail where that adjustment tab shows the range in the slot to get it in the ballpark before actually dialing in the fuel pressure with the gauge

Sounds like a good idea. I'm just used to doing it the other way and never really had a problem. Thanks for watching!

I rebuilt boths TBs on this '84 as it had been sitting 9 years and the butterflies were frozen. 2nd hand throttle bodies with unknown fuel injectors. Prior it would start and run at idle (new fuel pump and lines from tank to engine). Now it does not start or run unless momentarily on starting fluid. Seems like the injectors are not pulsing. Gauge shows 12 psi with turning the key on and off several timesand at least 9 with constant cranking. Test light to injectors shows power. I did set the TPS to the proper voltage just in case. Was careful with installing diaphragms but i did see that the one car you were working on ran even with the wrong one on the primary and reversed.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Did delete the air pump while I was at itbut having it connected did not sem to make it want to start. I understand the injectors are different. How would I know if i mixed them up? Woould it make it not run?

First Please DON'T INSTALL A TEST LIGHT TO THE INJECTOR WIRES. You could fry the drivers in the ECM. You need to get a set of Noid lights they will not hurt the ECM. If your ECM and wiring is working correctly you will see the noid light blink rapidly. If the noid light blinks then your injectors are clogged up if it doesn't you need to check your wiring and ECM. I hope this helps, let me know what you find. As far as will it run with the diaphragms in the wrong throttle body yes it will but it will have low pressure you wont be able to control your fuel pressure. You can find a set of noid lights almost anywhere for less then $25 just google them. Thanks for Watching!

@@84c4corvetteguy5 Thanks, With noid light found that the light was not flashing and I messed with the wires (connectors with some corrosion I guess) until I had noid flashing on both sides then i found out that one injector was bad. Tried adjusting the pressure with it running but could not adjust it on the car with the homemade tool I made, (cable too stiff)and anything purchasable was too long to fit and turn. Ended up removing the top portion of the TB about 4 times, and adjusting it off the car, until I got it to 12.5 psi running. It seems to run well.
Now I have to synchronize the throttle bodies. My manual says "plug the air passages of each throttle body with plugs (J-33047). " I could not find the tool for sale but saw your video where you say tape could work instead. will try this tomorrow.
Your videos are great, saved me so much time and effort.
I don't understand how this EGR operates. Rod is retracted, opening passage when no vacuum. Seems to be vacuum to it at idle. Does it extend with vacuum and then solenoid cuts off vacuum whn accelerating or at highway speed. Bought a BWD/NIEHOFF EGR935A and there is a comment about GM valves being marked (Pos) or (N) "indicating the type of transducer incorporated" and, later in the instructions, "negative backpressure valves can be replaced with the positive backpressure style replacement valve". I bought this EGR from rockauto listing (clearance). I assume it is the right one. This talk of negative and pos backpressure valves has me wondering what is going on. can you enlighten me?
Am still curious about what the difference is between the front and rear fuel injectors. Any idea?

@@DarrellHewko I'm really glad to hear that you fixed it. My goal has always been to help people with these crossfire cars. Please watch my video on how the EGR works and I have a couple videos on how to synchronize the throttle body with different style tools, as far as the IAC holes you can just jam a wad on paper towels down the holes so that no air can get through. if you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for watching and commenting!
