as someone who writes music and stuff, I gotta say that the use of leitmotifs in this game is absolutely legendary (yes that is a pun) I absolutely love the transition of zacian and zamazenta’s howling theme throughout the game: first, it starts as an eerie and dangerous sound as the fog of slumbering weald overtakes you and hop, then it becomes a sound of mystery and discovery as you’re discussing galar’s history with sonia, and now… it’s the sound that saves you, as your two knights in shining armor not only come, but come with an absolute banger
This alone was the coolest moment in Pokemon history for me everything just built up to a great moment teaming up with hop against something stronger than a literal god pokemon
This didn't really have any build up at all. Eturnatus came out of nowhere. But I'll admit, it put a huge grin on my face when the fluffy Bois joined the fight.
@@jacks1368 Perhaps we could still not give genders to the mysterious and elusive legendaries. After all, it's just speculation and this is the same regional dex that thinks it's hot stuff when it comes to the botched fossil's entries when we all know they're talking out of their asses for them.
When they come out, you get cold chills. I doesn’t matter if the battle was simple, the fact that this music gives that “this is it!” feeling when these legends save you from what was once an impossible battle to give you a chance to save the world is gold.
RIGHT THERE WITH YA!!! I got so emotional I was straight up crying haha!! There's just something about the music with the howling, you and Hop being the new courageous heroes to fight the Darkness, fighting alongside the wolves.... It's so beautiful :')
I loved these games because they switched things up a bit. Instead of you obtaining a legendary before the 8th gym. You come this close to fighting the champion without even seeing the armoured legendarys and even then you aren't strong enough to use them. It isn't till the postgame that you can catch them. They truly feel legendary because in the main game you can't control them.
Also seeing them at the start as a mystery "???" in the fog who you can't even attack makes it seem crazy strong (as the legendary they are*), as it makes you realize you are still pityfully weak to even damage them before the fog stops the "battle". PD: Also complements the fact that, when you call them both in order to fight eternatus, they literally carry the entire battle by themselves
This was probably the most epic moment of Sword and Shield! Fighting alongside the legendary protectors of Galar, what could be more awesome than *that?*
0:00-0:41 makes me low key emotional, because that scene was pretty epic. And even though I heard all the bad critics about the game and even thought about not buying it at first...Sword is one of my favorite games now.

You can say anything about the animation and the national dex, but this scene was amazing. Probably the best legendary introduction scene in a pokemon game.
Ye its good. They could top it off if they ever care to introduce Arceus into a games storyline. Like imagine a fight against Arceus in the Post game with it being at level 100 and buffed to high heavens. Preferably in outer space above Earth with the entire world watching your climax with God itself and you ultimtely defeating it and catching it.
@@chumchuumm yo Imagine you enter this fight and all the legendaries come to join you with their own equally epic arrivals from all the past games to battle on your side against Arceus. That, I want to see.
@@chumchuumm Gamefreak is going for extreme polytheism, after gen 4, Arceus being the main creator deity was probably dropped as a main plot point, considering every pokedex entry outside of gen 4 explicitly says its a sinnoh legend and all game and anime appearances show it to not be as strong as the legends say it is. More likely Arceus is probably going to be pushed as more of a Zues esq character, a leader of gods at most, not the true creator. Especially considering it is weaker then multiple other legendaries and needs the help of the unknown to actually create things. In gen 7 they introduced Ultra Necrozma which is heavily implied to be the creator deity of Ultra Space, or at least the bringer of life, as the Humans in Ultra Space worshipped it as the bringer of light and called it the "blinding one". Its also slightly implied it brought light in the form of solgaleo and lunala into Aloha as well. But thats more speculation.
TrueFireFoxMDT Gaming Its Eternamax* form is FAR too powerful for that, having a BST of 1125 including the *highest HP, Defense, and Sp. Def stats in the game.*
TrueFireFoxMDT Gaming Its base stat is about 400 higher than the strongest Pokemon to ever exist before this game. If you thought Ultra Necrozma was OP, Eternamax would sweep that. Just let that sink in. The Pokemon that ended god knows how many Nuzlockes would be demolished by this guy without the doggo CPUs backing it up like we had.
@@Genesukt64 Amen! Loved this game from start to finish! Character arcs, a much more believable progression, other smaller bells and whistles, and THIS FINAL BATTLE are all reasons that I loved this game! I bought Sword and I'm gonna buy Shield just to piss off the haters.
I can’t agree with this. This game is rife with so many unnecessary plot holes that the whole game just doesn’t allow me to feel as if any of this is believable. It had less of an impact than the previous Sun/Moon
@@PKmeloa Oh absolutely, it's like this game forces you *away* from the plot, leaving everything to the other characters, which could have work if, you know, we could actually see it?? The "Eternatus arc" is also uber-rushed, from the Rose Tower trip up to the boss there's no true sense of threat, which doesn't help that the Chairman's motivations are exceptionally non-believable, they are not compelling in the slighest. The one thing I did liked about the story is it's foreshadow, the world-building is its strongest point, which is where I disagree with you, since everything leading up to this battle (and the battle itself) from Eternatus' whirling form, the storm, the sky darkening, it's crystalline body, the lightning, and even those "memories" popping in and out around the Pokémon were cleverly put in the game as clues, small details of dialogue and imagery that were seemingly irrelevant, such as the sign describing Dynamax as the user "warping space around them", all of them making sense towards the end.
I mean, it's established that Eternamax Eternatus is sucking up all energy in Galar. That would likely include the energy of Pokémon moves. Zacian and Zamazenta's power likely broke Eternatus's hold on that.
Eternatus:Now that i have transformed into a weird ultrabeast im invencible (The protagonist and Hop pulled out the sword and the shield) Eternatus:oh... I see what happens next
This has to be one of the most epic boss themes in Pokémon history and one of the most epic songs EVER because of the howling in the background, the guitars and it could quite possibly be as great as Zinnia’s Battle theme from Pokémon ORAS or Ultra Necrozma’s Battle theme in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and it feels like your are joining forces with two legendaries who have been awakened from the Slumbering Weald in their graves and saving the WHOLE WORLD.
sword and shield is a perfect example of how important soundtrack is in a game. I had the most fun playing this of any pokemon game so far (only played gen 4 and 7 tho) and a huge part of that is the music and the focus on the gyms/champion. I'm not saying it's better than the other games, just easily the most fun to me
I like how they made the fight against Eternatus a typical JRPG three phase final boss. Except, you know, not actually the final boss. In case you're wondering what I mean: Phase 1: You think it will just be this. Phase 2: The situation becomes hopeless Phase 3: You regain hope All while fighting a giant god/god-like being that transforms in at least one phase.
I happened to be playing this at night. So, I caught Eternatus with a Dusk Ball. Rather poetic since Eternatus is the one who caused the Darkest Day long ago.
Came back to appreciate this song more years later. I love that the “howling” effect is accurate to actual wolves since they also harmonize with each other. Perfect for a fighting side by side against some song like this.
Wow... When I heard this theme... Oh.. My... God! THIS IS SO GOOD! It feels the determination inside you, especially the howls of Zacian and Zamazenta since they are also fighting with you! I love this theme so much!
@@DuffyDevil Or if they have Telepathy, since that prevents being damaged by any of your teammates' moves (seriously, it's why I tend to use my Gardevoir a lot in Max Raids, since otherwise I seem to almost always end up with a teammate who just OHKO's my Pokemon with a move like Earthquake....WHEN MY POKEMON IS 4x SUPER-EFFECTIVE AGAINST THE RAID POKEMON!). That got me particularly pissed off in a Charmander Max Raid since it caused us to actually LOSE the Raid....WHEN THE CHARMANDER WAS SHINY!!!! T_T
This song is masterful. It takes the leitmotifs of Hop, Zacian and Zamazenta, and Galar and rolls them all up into one powerful and triumphant theme. Hop who has been by our side since the beginning and the second hero of Galar is at our side so hearing the theme that is associated with him makes our friendship come together by the end. Zacian and Zamazenta the two legendaries we brought back to glory to save the day, they have woken from their slumber and they are ready to defeat the threat. Finally Galars leitmotif which plays in Wedgehurst Motostoke Wyndon and will soon accompany our battle with Leon is used to indicate how we have the world in our hands and we are here to save it. Through this this battle we see our entire journey both literally flashing by in the background and musically with this theme. Our closest friend, the history we have learned and the region we are here to save and defend. This theme is beautiful.
To clear up some confusion: Eternatus is an alien. Zacian is a girl. Eternamax Eternatus is a hydra. You can see the "fingers" open their mouths sometimes.
@@FalconO5 I know that Zacian is confirmed to be female, but pretty sure they never confirmed Zamazenta to be male, they could both be bitches ( and yes, I can use this in this context because they're dogs)
Ever since Unova, the pair of cover legendaries are always one having more masculine trait and the other having more feminine trait. Zacian is dominantly blue and the little red is a bit pinkish plus also having braids, thus more feminine. Meanwhile Zamazenta's dominant red colour is heroic colour and also the ponytail on Zamazenta's head resembles the ponytail on medieval knight's helmet, making it more masculine side. Also following the last 2 generation, blue is feminine (Xerneas, Lunala) and red is masculine (Solgaleo, Yveltal)
I love how in this battle you and your bestie go ahead and save Galar like knights with the power of the sword and shield from a giant dragon hand, I also love how you see faded parts of galar behind Eternatus showing what you’re fighting for.
This gives me "This is the final boss" vibes from animes and stuff. Like you're almost losing but you feel hope going through your body and feel like you'll win because of your hopes and dreams filled in your body.
This theme moved me to tears man. Just an amazing job on the compositor. Especially with the raid battle; personally, my favourite Pokemon track of all time.

I like two things on this fight, the fact that they actually introduce the dynamax mechanic with the four against one battle, and second, you're not forced to use the legendaries. I absolutely love the transition of zacian and zamazenta’s howling theme throughout the game: first, it starts as an eerie and dangerous sound as the fog of slumbering weald overtakes you and hop, then it becomes a sound of mystery and discovery as you’re discussing galar’s history with sonia, and now…
it’s the sound that saves you, as your two knights in shining armor not only come, but come with an absolute banger
I appreciate they kept the leitmotifs from the slumbering weald theme and make them comparably an active and passive theme respectively.

I didn't really like this game as a whole, but when this battle started I was like "Alright Gamefreak, I'll give you this" ☺
I loved these games because they switched things up a bit. Instead of you obtaining a legendary before the 8th gym. You come this close to fighting the champion without even seeing the armoured legendarys and even then you aren't strong enough to use them. It isn't till the postgame that you can catch them. They truly feel legendary because in the main game you can't control them.
Mate you catch a fucking world destroyed hydra which required 2 Legendaries to defeat
Yes, and also it's actually a challenge to get them; you don't just throw a poke ball with them at full health and have a 43% catch rate!

Personally, I believe Zacian is male and NOT female, but that's just my own head canon on the Sword/Shield Legendaries and story
The most upbeat and positive theme associated with the phrase “I not trapped here with you Y O U A R E T R A P P E D I N H E R E W I T H M E”
