This was my son's very first Pokémon game. He's 7. We did our own playthroughs at the same time so we could talk about it as we progressed. He got stuck on Nessa's gym. It was honestly awesome to see him go through the struggle. Adjusting his team comp and running back into the wild to train up his Pokémon. He doted on his Pokémon and got really into making high quality curry for them before going to rechallenge the gym. I still remember hearing him shriek from across the house. "MOM! MOOOOOM!" He had done it and he was ecstatic. His cheeks were flushed and his eyes were sparkling and suddenly I was nine again holding my GameBoy Color having just accomplished the same. I played this song while making lunch today. We both jammed hard. I loved this game top to bottom and want to thank Game Freak. You made your own legend real. There are two generations of Pokémon trainers in my house. You allowed me to experience the magic all over again through my son and that's priceless.

The gyms may be "too easy" but i absolutely loved the idea that we were in like a STADIUM, we aren't just in a room we have fans and they cheer us on. Like Pokemon battles are treated like a sport now and i actually really love this idea :o
honestly other than gen 1 and 2 which I had legit difficulty even years later, the games themselves have never been hard. the main story is designed to be completed by young children after all so it's not like they were going to dark souls it. that said it depends on if you looked up gyms before hand. I never lost to the gyms but, had seriously close calls with Raihan and Gordie but, found Opal and Piers a breeze. just depends on team comp really. play blind and it's still somewhat challenging if you don't overgrind.

My favorite part is definitely 2:37 where everything drops away. You’re in trouble. Sweating. The melody disappears as you’re starting to panic, the bass sounds imitating the blood rushing in your ears, and the pounding of your heart in the drums. A small part of the melody returns to remind you that the show must go on, and as the other instruments come flooding in, you rise back up and send out your next Pokémon. Honestly I loved hearing this part while playing the game.
would have been even better if the gym leaders would have been challenging. just whiped the floor with each and every opponent except the champion due to the lvl difference (i did not take eternatus with me since the game was already to easy) i just wish they would have made the game overall more challenging. we need an official pokemon game as challenging as PokeMMO. i would like to see someone nuzlocking that.
The acid instruments like the TB-303 in the "gym leader" section make this song slap hard af. While I will probably never get the game due to how disappointed I am with it, the music still sounds really good!
@@bingchilling7900 Y'all realize these gyms are easy for us because if you were paying attention to Type Advantage it's a breeze. If it felt easy, it means the skill ceiling was reached. I haven't felt the same dopamine rush since Gen 5 and as much as I'd hate to admit it, Dynamax really does play a huge role in heightening that feeling. (And this banger theme of course). Is it just me who really feels like SW/SH did gyms how they were meant to be? Even if it IS against an NPC, its really nice to actually hear the crowd cheering. Plus, I love how they make your character actually recognized theoughout the region, because in the Pokemon world apparantly it's really hard to even get 3 Badges (Hinted at by the people's reaction in Pokemon Orgins when Red showed them 3 badges) and Its not every new character being like "Oh who are you?"
They really did a number with the new gyms. Or should I say, the REAL gyms, as they are always depicted as these huge buildings with more or less seats for a crowd. Though it was for the League most of the time in the show, here it fit perfectly and I hope they stay at this style, even for future remakes. It´s easy to make past gyms larger, doesn´t have to be a soccer-stadium.
It’s true. I’m proud of Pokémon for this one thing, the animations and some things not too much, but definitely hit a huge score with the gyms. I caught myself cheering along with the NPC’s in the crowd after someone dynamaxed.
One thing I love about modern Pokémon is they acknowledge the fact that people love Pokémon battles and watching them! I get so excited during the part of the song where the crowd sings along and cheers! It always makes me feel extra hyped while playing!!!
so i’m over 50 hours into this game and i’m on the last gym, and something I forgot is just how exhilarating when i realized how much of a big deal it is to challenge a gym in this game. you have to be given a letter of recommendation. tons of people attend gym leader battles. there’s full on crowds in a *stadium*. i played the older games before these ones, and you just challenge a leader anytime, no big deal. but just how much of an event these battles are… it’s just so cool how it’s executed it really makes you feel like you’re going into an actual challenge
Love how each region has their gym themes based off the regions culture- With Galar, they leave the crowd to be the rhythm. I can imagine the actual crowd making it’s own tempo changes and rhythm as well.
I actually love the fact that the music changes based on what's actually going on in the battle. Throughout the battle theme, when you're just slapping back and forth, there's just this playful 'it's a contest' theme, that radiates the pumping energy a person would feel from challenging a master they know they have a shot at beating. But if the battle takes a downturn and you're in trouble, the music becomes more sinister and oppressive beat and the playful melody becomes more somber and focused because, for you, it's now do or die time. And when the battle takes an upturn and you're beating an opponent, the crowd starts chanting because they are STOKED some random nobody is possibly about to beat the champion and it takes on a much more triumphant tone. The best part is how seamless the changes are, too. The best experience I had with this music was when I was taking on Bea and her pokemon were DESTROYING me due to lucky crits. My team managed to fight hers down, I was on my last, and she was on her last two. The way the music changed from that frantic pounding heart of imminent defeat to the triumphant crowd chanting (signaled by the crowd cheering no less when I knocked her pokemon out!) as the battle became even again was... I hadn't felt like that playing a POkemon game in a LOOOONG time. Not since playing Yellow for Game Boy Color when I was a little kid.
It is still a hype factor though, could you imagine the crowd thinking "HOLY FUCK THE ACE IS HERE THIS IS ABOUT TO GOOOO DOWNNNNNN" and it's just more exciting to you because you went from being beaten to just beating. Because now you're Bea-ting her.
It did the same thing BW did, but they fixed it. I love Gen 5’s low health theme but god damn is it annoying when i’m enjoying the music and then suddenly my pokémon nearly dies. Then I switch/heal it, and it changes back again. The lack of transition is just... painful. The theme mostly stays the same here, but it still gives you the feeling of ‘oh fuck im not winning anymore oh no this is really bad’ with a good transition. I heard it during my fight with Melony! That’s my punishment for using mostly dragon types... especially a Flygon, lmao
I love how they handle the music in this game. If your pokemon ever faint (which they probably won't) the music gets harder to hear and deafens as if you're being put under intense pressure. Always loved that little touch!
Play the game on hard mode by doing a nuzlocke and you have a much higher chance of hearing the "pokemon fainted" part of the song Whenever I hear that part now, all I can I think about is one of my pokemon dying :')
Just me who felt like a complete badass when the chants start at the end and you can dynamax your pokemon ABSOLUTE CHILLS RUNNING DOWN MY SPINE, the way they redid the gyms as stadiums for sword and shield never fails to make me love the game even more!!
Idc what people say. There idea of putting us in front of a crowd was awesome. They should keep that going. I wish they’d make the games more like the anime.
Some of my favourite battles in Gen 5 were the sections where they put you in a crowded stadium or stage, surrounded by a cheering audience, because after all the adventuring and training alone out in the wild, it felt like the culmination of what you’ve got to show for it
Opal is the only person who places you in a disadvantage for being honest about her age. She's also the only elder who isn't bothered by loud chanting and giant Pokémon screaming left and right. Love this lady. Raihan is always chilling as he strolls through social media, relaxed and laid-back. Then he enters the battlefield and completely throws away his calm side and lets loose. He becomes wild and excited. If anything, his wild movements mock a dragon. Love this dude. EDIT: *I discovered something neat about this theme.* 1. Have this play in the Battle Tower. The beginning will loop until you start the match. 2. The "Fainted/Disadvantage" (2:36) theme can actually start from the very beginning of the theme if you faint really quickly. (I have proof. I'm terrible. XD)
The chanting in the last part gets you SOOOOO unbelievably hyped!!! Especially since that’s the part that plays as your opponent dynamaxes their Pokémon and the fight gets more intense from there!! The first time I heard this theme I had CHILLS down my spine and it felt so close to being a real life Pokémon gym fight!
In this game, the battles are something new. In other games, the gym leaders were always alone, and nobody saw the battle. Now, everyone can see you, and the cheering only motivates you to try even harder.

Aint gonna deny. I did miss when this game came out. I really gave less of a crap about how this game rep went. But it was still enjoyed by millions. This theme made your battle hype as hell
The first time I experienced 2:37 was in Raihan's gym, and it was TENSE. Legitimately thought he might be the one to screw me over in the game. I love this theme so much.
Not gonna lie, he was the only gym leader I thought I was going to lose to. I have never lost a gym battle before (this generation and those prior), but his double battle rules screwed me over and costed me 4 of my pokemon and some revives
I used XL Candies on my Sobble as soon as I got access to them and by Nessa I had a level 100 Inteleon. One shot every single Pokémon. Of every gym. And with Leon, I wanted to be nice to my other Pokémon and let them play.
That was me during my second battle with Raihan. I had to go grind in the wild area afterwards because I knew that if i didn't, the battle against Leon would've been slaughter.
Believe it or not, my first experience with 2:37 was with Allister’s G-Maxed Gengar, kept raising its special attack, and was one shooting all my Pokémon. Fortunately, my Inteleon had the speed advantage, and finished off Gengar with Snipe Shot!
at 2:38 there's a completely different vibe and it's terrifying and absolute god tier. this music in general just gives away how amazing pokemon is i feel, wish these main games had just that little bit of touch, but this is fantastic
Encountered this while battling Melony... I didn't have any pokemon weak to ice... Hahaha. This is indeed intimidating. Gen V (Black 2/ White 2) gyms is close second.. It has even personalized mix of gym themes. :)
I feel like this is the best version out there. The changes are smooth, and they themselves tell the story of the battle that's going on at the moment. Excellent job!
I believe they're actually chanting "Dyna! Max! Dynamax! Dy-Na-Max!" etc. Edit: Funny how triggered people are getting over a simple observation I made. Losers.
I love the crowd's singing/cheering. Everytime it happens, I can't help but grin, it's hilarious but honestly so good My mom said that in the UK they actually do that at sports events and stuff, where they have things they sing or something and I'm in so much awe that it might be real
oh yeah, people chanting at sporting events are commonplace here. especially football. i imagine if pokemon were real, the spectators would be singing in unison "fuck off back to Kanto, you fight like a bitch"
I could be wrong, but the cheering also kind of sounds like a symphony of vuvuzelas to me? I know they're popular at European football matches, so that's probably not a coincidence.
@@msthecommentator2863 They're actually banned here, as they proved too distracting (and ******* annoying) at the SA World Cup, but yes, they're closely linked with football because of their infamous reputation
I think this theme is probably one of the best Gym Leader battle themes. It really hyped you up and sounds fun at the same time especially the bit at 1:28
I don't understand why they make the trainers stand in front of giant dynamax pokemon. Isn't the point of having a Pokemon is for protection? Why standing in the middle of 2 Godzila fighting? Edit: Some of you said it's just a hologram and the pokemon remains the same...Wasn't during mid-game there was a rampaging Dynamax pokemon that Leon had to deal with? If it was only a hologram wouldn't it just be a normal pokemon, and you wouldn't need to call the national champion to handle it right? I don't watch the anime/manga; and to be fair, if a game requires me to do homework before to understand game logic, it just means it was poorly explained in-game.
Hey folks, have you forgotten that it looks way more badass if they stand in front of the dynamaxed pokemon. Woundnt look as nice if they were standing behind them now, would it?
sorry if this sounds out of the blue, but i feel like i’ve seen the character in your profile picture before. do you mind telling me who it is and where they’re from?
I know this game has bad reception, but I can't deny how much fun I had playing it. I was ADDICTED for weeks, I was having an absolute blast. This song was one of my favorite parts, when the crowd starts cheering you can really feel it, I love it sm. Sure, this game wasn't the best in the series, it had a lot of flaws, but I had an amazing time and that's what matters :)
I really hated this theme; I had such high hopes for an Ultra-serious theme after Alola had no Gyms (but it had some Iconic music) and this was actually the 1st Mainline adventure on the Switch - but, a Dance Club??! Eh?? It's Ok in itself but for this situation?! Only the (tedious) drab art of Dynamaxing saved this game from me beating each Gym leader in the time it takes to open a packet of crisps.
@@shubhamrawat9484 Yea, maybe. I mean; I guess it's done now and they've got this beat out of their system so We can hope for a more serious theme next gen. I just really feel while they can go easy on the Rival themes now; the Gym leader theme should still be respected and be intimidating otherwise you've basically Won before a Pokeball is tossed if you're jiving to a dance-club routine!
I had never owned a Nintendo of any sort. As a child, my parents simply couldn't afford to buy one for me. I stuck with the anime and the cards for most of my childhood. Now, as an adult, I bought a Switch and experienced a Pokemon game for the first time through Let's Go Pikachu. I loved it to say the least. Then, through discounts and gift cards, I saved to buy Pokemon Sword four months after. And since it's my first experiencing any sort of Pokemon game, I was completely blown away. I loved it so much. From the Pokemons themselves to the music, I can't empathize enough how much I am enjoying myself. I know they're repeated games, but as a person that never played any of the others before, it was thrilling. Now, I can only hope that they remake the other ones through the Let's Go series. That way I can catch up with the other regions in some way or another.
If you have a computer of any kind, I highly highly *HIGHLY* recommend emulating the Gen 1-5 games with GBA and DS Emulators. It will give you a good reference for how similar yet somewhat different each game feels, what you miss out from only having Sword and Let's Go Pikachu under your belt. There's a ton of stuff that gradually got left behind throughout the games or a lot of stuff that no longer exists, you'd be surprised by everything you find.
@@No_Sleepee Just pick up some original hardware and physical games. Nothing better than holding a Gameboy Color with a copy of Pokemon Yellow in it! You can find both consoles and games pretty cheaply in vintage game stores; that's where I got mine.

Honestly I loved hearing this part while playing the game.

Hate to ruin it for you, but the cheering wasn't for your comeback. It was because she was sending out her Ace
The lack of transition is just... painful.

Santa The Undead the only time I felt that way was when I went up against Leon and that was because my Pokémon were lower level than his
at 2:38 there's a completely different vibe and it's terrifying and absolute god tier. this music in general just gives away how amazing pokemon is i feel, wish these main games had just that little bit of touch, but this is fantastic
Encountered this while battling Melony... I didn't have any pokemon weak to ice... Hahaha. This is indeed intimidating.
Gen V (Black 2/ White 2) gyms is close second.. It has even personalized mix of gym themes. :)
@@Johnpao215 well while my pokemon die and i frantically have to make a fate changing decision i can at least still party :]

i love how the drum machine gives the effect of heartbeats, because you just lost a pokemon in the battle

Well when did you dynamax? If you dyna at the leaders last pokemon the crowd starts to sing. Or at least it always did for me.
@neopolitan1461 Same thing in Pokémon Scarlett/Violet
I feel like this is the best version out there. The changes are smooth, and they themselves tell the story of the battle that's going on at the moment. Excellent job!
Whistle Guy's living his best life and no one can convince me otherwise.

I think i cried tears of joy when i heard the crowd chant the final mon for the first time. That was the best part of gen 5s gyms.
I believe they're actually chanting "Dyna! Max! Dynamax! Dy-Na-Max!" etc.
Edit: Funny how triggered people are getting over a simple observation I made. Losers.

I love the crowd's singing/cheering. Everytime it happens, I can't help but grin, it's hilarious but honestly so good
My mom said that in the UK they actually do that at sports events and stuff, where they have things they sing or something and I'm in so much awe that it might be real
oh yeah, people chanting at sporting events are commonplace here. especially football. i imagine if pokemon were real, the spectators would be singing in unison "fuck off back to Kanto, you fight like a bitch"

Edit:
Some of you said it's just a hologram and the pokemon remains the same...Wasn't during mid-game there was a rampaging Dynamax pokemon that Leon had to deal with? If it was only a hologram wouldn't it just be a normal pokemon, and you wouldn't need to call the national champion to handle it right?
I don't watch the anime/manga; and to be fair, if a game requires me to do homework before to understand game logic, it just means it was poorly explained in-game.
Exactly like wtf are y’all insane
The Pokemon is going to hit their trainer and be taken to the Pokemon center
And they trust ten year olds with creatures capable of mass destruction
@@matthewmurdock6187
oh yeah I forgot about their age.
Hey folks, have you forgotten that it looks way more badass if they stand in front of the dynamaxed pokemon. Woundnt look as nice if they were standing behind them now, would it?
This song starts so good but when the crowd kicks in it just gets 1000% better

Music: Its time to get funky

And with Milo, being the Grass gym leader, that could fit, even, given Ludicolo.

i still love how my starter pokemon one shoted everything while i was danceing
The best part about this game WAS the gym battles themselves being so immersive
Gyms In general, the themes and challenges were pretty good too.

I know this game has bad reception, but I can't deny how much fun I had playing it. I was ADDICTED for weeks, I was having an absolute blast. This song was one of my favorite parts, when the crowd starts cheering you can really feel it, I love it sm. Sure, this game wasn't the best in the series, it had a lot of flaws, but I had an amazing time and that's what matters :)
yeah this is exactly how I feel about it; it's objetivley much worse than legends but i hate the new battle system so I enjoyed it more
I’m addicted too, I’m playing through on another account, cuz it’s honestly fun progressing and the music is just amazing
@@netweed09 on a nuzlocke?

Never heard that in the game since I was always 10-20lvls higher than gym leaders. but it sounds dope. like all the sound fades around you like youre in a tunnel, which is how everything really does sound when youre in a stressful situation
