  • A spectacular corned beef pie recipe for you here - but you'll need some extra pennies in your pocket this week to make it, because we're going all in on this one and really pushing the boat out. Some people say that only poor people or dogs would eat corned beef. But my corned beef and potato pie will satisfy even the most sophisticated of tastes - and you won't suffer any Victorian afflictions after eating it. Apart from full belly syndrome but I don't think that's too serious. Enjoy!
Rich Person's Corned beef and Potato pie recipe:
    Pastry:
    400g all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    Good pinch of pepper
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1 teaspoon dried thyme
    100g cold cubed butter
    100g cold cubed lard
    2 tablespoons vinegar (optional)
    100-125ml cold water
    Filling:
Around 400g waxy potatoes cut into bitesize chunks and cooked fully
    1 medium onion
    1 medium carrot
    2 tins corned beef (680g)
    A glug of water
    1-2 tablespoons vinegar
    Season as desired
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 Celcius (fan setting) and that's around 360 Fahrenheit, for 60-70 minutes.

Made this today - absolutely delicious!
    Couple of observations.
    1) The filling takes a long time to cool down. Next time, I will make filling/pastry the day before and assemble/cook next day.
    2) Slightly more than half of the pastry is needed for the base, otherwise it gets a bit thin.
    3) My pie had reached a glorious colour after 1 hour at the temperature ( 180 ° fan) given in the recipe, so I had to cover it with foil.
    Keep an eye on it!
Really enjoyed the pie, many thanks to you Rich.

My mum made this when I was a kid. Not the expensive on though I am sure, just an ordinary one. I have often wondered what the recipe was. I may well try this for after Christmas when we need a change from turkey.

No point in uploading recipes if you don't list the ingredients. Plus each ingredient needs to be on one line each, so they are not jumbled up together like a dogs breakfast. If you want to grow your channel an get people to subscribe that's what you need to do.

That slave comment was offensive, and insensitive as well as unnecessary!

    • @TheTeessideChef
      @TheTeessideChef  2 года назад +6

I'm going to assume you're not British. It's satire. The very idea that people eating corned beef pie - a traditional working class food - would have servants or slaves is absurd. Read up about Britain's feudal system, and how many of our ancestors lived in chains before you accuse me of being offensive and insensitive. Conditions for the working classes barely improved during the industrial revolution - hence conditions like 'phossy jaw' and chimney sweep cancer. England's not all green fields and tea and cakes with the Queen you know.
