the surgery itself is probably the same one used to reshape the jaw for MtF tran, or people who want less/more defined jawlines. Because US insurance companies are privately owned, it's perfectly acceptable for them to dismiss all candidates applying for jaw shaping surgeries... you can just try another company if you dont like it. or, at least, thats how they would be thinking.
It is. Plenty of us agree that we aren't the best. The republican party has fucked us over on so many levels. People die or kill themselves because they can't get treatment.
Lisa Baltzer not at all true. “Who can sue under ERISA? By statute, only four classes of plaintiffs may sue under ERISA: plan participants, plan beneficiaries, the Secretary of Labor, and plan fiduciaries. Who can be sued for a denial of benefits under an ERISA plan? In general, the only proper defendant is the plan itself.” That was from an ERISA lawyer’s website. And a plan participant would be the insured. Your lawyer must have sucked...plus not all HMOs are ERISAs.
I’m thinking about jaw surgery because I have chronic tmj dysfunction and it’s so painful everyday I’m so tired of it but I’m scared of surgery because I’ve heard that outcomes are usually bad more than good
I had this , kind of ? My right side was my jaw was larger then my left . I didn't have the pain she did the cross bite was just horrible. I was told it will get worse over time . Insurance also told me no. But my orthodontist fought with them and finally got it fixed. It helped so much !!!
Amber van Markus I had jaw surgery to fix it :). Insurance kept telling us no that it was cosmetic but my dentist fought with them for months ! Telling them it was an issue and will cause pain later on for me . Finally got approved, surgery was no fun , couldn't eat for months , (just liquid).
ShadowTBlack don't be worried :) and no I don't think having a cross bite will cause this , plus the Women in the video is like an extream case. My cross bite was just one side grew longer then the other.
Amber van Markus it was a reconstructive jaw surgery. Basically all they did was go in the jaw cut part off the lower jaw bone off from the right and now it's being held toghter by screws but k don't feel or notice them at all. Only difference is my bite isn't to the side. Also mine wasn't as extream as the women in the video . Just one side was longer for some treason
Cosmetic? Bullshit! My insurance covered a cosmetic surgery because I told them my back was in chronic pain from having large breasts, but they won't help her because her jaw is literally growing into her neck?? I didn't need my surgery really, but she needs hers! What the hell?!
Do I Give A Shit Sorta. I guess I don't really count cause we have Military health insurance that actually gives a damn. Like I said, it was hurting my back to carry the weight of big breasts, so it was a cosmetic surgery that benefitted my health, so the insurance covered it. The only thing I had to do was prove it to the insurance company so they would cover. I technically could have lived with it, but I didn't want to. Civilian insurance isn't as compliant.
Koky Koky ...........................She had large breasts, so maybe she had a breast reduction surgery??? You can also have back pain from bad posture.
Yeah i saw that. They dont show the results. Hope she is okay because surgery is very risky business. It could potentially make it worse. Those drs look bought out by the pharmaceutical industry.
Not to be a peanut but it's TMD not tmj. Everyone has tmjs!! Tmj is temporomandibular joint. It's TMD for disorder ❤️❤️I'm getting double jaw surgery and chin surgery next year and jaw expanders :(
My parents have spent thousands of dollars on jaw surgery for me, insurance also deemed it cosmetic. Now I don't have insurance, and since the surgeries were unsuccessful I just have to live with it. I feel for her :/
I have TMJ disorder, except for some crazy unknown reason I do not feel pain with it. Maybe that's a good thing? Except the joints have literally been disintegrating, worse on the left. My doctor doubts me that I feel no pain but it's true. However I know what other chronic pain feels like and I also *hate* taking excessive amounts of pain pills. Insurance companies like this one are greedy.
Poor woman.. I use to suffer severe jaw pain as well, my jaw would dislocate a few times a day or just lock up. I'm sure it wasn't nearly as awful as this woman has to endure but it was so painful. Thankfully it's almost all gone after eating only soft foods for a few months and doing jaw exercises for a while. I truly hope she gets the surgery because that's no way to live.
I love this show because no matter what the problem or illness the Dr's are sooo sympathetic and caring. Some talk shows they can be mean and judge but these Dr's know what they are talking about. They are just very caring. It's nice to see.
We all have TMJ. Temporomandibular Joint. That's the name of the joint that articulates our maxilla to our mandible. TMD is temporomandibular disorder. You have TMD.
Haley Birchnest when you have issues with your TMJ it is considered TMD. It's not synonymous. TMJ is the initials of temporomandibular joint. When you have disorder with that joint it is temporomandibular disorder. you can ask any Dental professional. not everybody has TMD but everybody has TMJ.
Haley Birchnest I'm a secondary provider in a dental office. I've gone through extensive training to know my dental terminology. if you Google" is TMD synonymous with TMJ" you will get the same response. Everyone has two TMJs. It's the name of the joint. Not everybody has TMD. Not everyone has a disorder with their temporomandibular joint. It is not synonymous. What do you not get about that?
That's rich for her fiancé to say she's addicted to the pain pills it's always easy for people who don't suffer from chronic pain to say ignorant shit like that but if he was in her shoes he would be taking the same damn pills she does.
Angelica Pena you're an idiot. he knows she needs to take as much as she does, he just thinks she would go through withdrawal if she was taken off them and they need to keep upping her dose. It astounds me how fucking dumb you are
I have TMJ, currently dealing with clicking and locking, and the pain is going through my neck and forehead. I took naproxen and lost it, so I'm currently just having to deal with pain on the constant that I don't even want to deal eat or even talk.
@@la3044 Yeah, if anything I messed myself over by constantly taking it. I suffered a bit of withdrawl when I was first off it. I take it every now and then, but not everyday, even if I'm in pain. The locking still happens, and cracking/clicking, but it's not painful.
This is me, excruciating double vision, floaters, sensitivity to light/sound, eye pain, ear pain/ tinnitus, jaw pain/lock jaw, headaches, backache, neck ache, etc. I have tried everything, I am only 21, I have been going through this for years. I am always in severe pain and I am losing everything. I can’t take it anymore, it’s like I am slowly waiting for myself to die. Someone help me please.
Same here. I‘m sorry that I only can say that I have it too. I‘m 24 and got this since 2018. It don‘t allows me to live a normal life, friends or to have a partner. I wish I could eat at least. I got clicking, pain in ear, jaw and migraine. Did you get help somewhere?

My insurance deemed my underbite jaw surgery cosmetic. We filed an appeal, my surgeon provided paperwork saying it wasn't, and it was accepted! My insurance paid for 80% of my surgery :)
I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome and my doctor literally recommended OTC Tylenol for when my joints dislocate 😟 Would they give Tylenol when someone comes into the ER for a dislocated joint? I don't think so! But because I relocate them myself at home, I must not be in actual pain 😡
lady! come to Italy, one of the best maxillofacial surgeon is in Parma. we have amazing public health care. plus all the art and history. it would cost a fraction of what you pay for that stupid useless insurance.
I feel so bad for this woman. I had chronic pain due to TMJ issues and I had to have a lefort 1 and a mandibular osteotomy. I had to take out a 30 grand loan just to have the surgery, but every single day I'm so grateful that I did what I did. I did not want to live on pain meds the rest of my life either. I feel so horrible for this lady. Insurance companies are horrible.
i have TMJ and it's been so painful sometimes that the whole side of my face is in excruciating pain. to know someone experiences it worse than that is crazy.
How is a locked up jaw cosmetic? How do these insurance companies employees sleep at night? She is only dependant on the pills because they won't do the surgery to get rid of the pain..
I can totally relate. I'm stuck in the house and I've been on pain meds for years. After a while they stop working and you take them just to keep from having withdrawal symptoms even though you just want to throw them in the trash . I've missed so much due to my disease and now my kids are all grown. Just finding a doctor who will listen is almost an impossible task. Most just want to throw pills at you.
I have severe TMJ. Mine has progressed to the point of pain everyday. The treatments don't do me much good bc I don't have traditional TMJ. Watching this i actually feel fortunate that my problems aren't as bad as hers. Something that causes pain in your jaw progresses to the point of debilitating. Every day I wake up and take something for pain so I can function. Every night I take something for pain so I can sleep. It's a never ending cycle of taking pain meds and waiting for them to wear off.
I feel your pain, regarding the required surgery not being covered. I had a severe overbite. I had issues chewing, talking and sleeping. During my sleep, my jaw would relax back and block my airway causing sleep apnea. I would wake up about 10 times an hour (shown by a sleep test). I was a walking zombie during the day due to the lack of sleep. However, my overbite was not seen as the cause of the sleep apnea so insurance would not cover the jaw surgery. It was considered cosmetic. If left untreated, sleep apnea can kill you! I had to pay for the braces and surgery out of pocket. It was the price of a small car. The minute I woke up from surgery, I noticed a difference right away. I could breathe so much better! The surgery saved/changed my life!
TMJ is awful. I've had it for a decade and it just gets worse over time. I woke up one day and it locked and it scared the crap out of me. I ended up getting checked and it wasn't life threatening to get it fixed so I had no choice but to adjust with it and it's a nuisance to me. Constantly having a sore jaw from eating, snapping sounds when I eat and talk, daily anxiety of "am I going to be able to eat today?" considering it has it's day where it only opens up to a certain amount... like, it sucks...
i have been trying to get a dr to fix my back it has disabled me. i have been on pain pills since 2007 i understand the frustration my insurance has denied the spinal stimulator 2x medicare finally approved so jan i can start getting off meds!!!!
lol I have the same condition but less drastic.. on the left side of my face, my jaw doesn't stop growing. My face is drifting onto the right side because of that and my whole jaw is completely fucked up but i can kinda eat. i feel really sorry for her because i know how she feels like D:
In the right right side of my jaw, the cartalage connecting the bone to my skull disconnected making my jaw pop really loudly when I open my mouth. If I do it to many times a day it can get really sore, and it has locked up a few times making me have to punch my jaw to realign the cartilage. This was caused by implants behind my two front teeth to bring my lower jaw foreward because I had a slight overbite.
I have tmj and my jaw locks closed on my left side I can't sleep on that side or it will lock. This is a struggle that affects my sleeping I've been like this for 6 months and it clicks and there is sometimes pain and this stresses me out everyday I'm 13 almost 14. My life is horrible
@TheDoctors I am extremely disappointed with you using this lady as an example of this wrongly termed "Opiate Epidemic". I see The CDC nor yourselves have any shame. This poor lady is one example. Her pain is excruciating to her, and insurances should be required to cover costs if the operations can cure and/or alleviate her misery. Neither you nor I know if she is abusing her prescribed narcotics. This story really twists you agenda against chronic pain patients. A d because of you, and folks such as yourself, legitimate, non-abusing users of opiates are being cut-off from perhaps the only treatment they can afford, and the only one available to them financially. Facts:.The CDC fails to categorize how many addicts start with a legitimate opioid prescription. They group heroin addicts in with chronic opiate users. Not the same. The shame and guilt you are allowing go be seen here, KS the direct result of attitudes from doctors, such as yourselves. No wonder family members think it is okay to do so, too. Less than 2% of chronic pain patients ABUSE their predictions. That is FAR from an epidemic, Sirs and Madam. This lady should have her procedure paid for by her insurance company. No doubt. Many of us with chronic, intractable pain do not HAVE surgical or any other modalities of treatment. Please.... be educated and stop fear mongering amongst a public that has been told blatant and skewed facts. Talk to some of us that opiates are the only option. We can set you straight in a heartbeat. Blessings to this lady!
Hallelujah!! You speak the truth. Someone who finally understands this whole situation. Only true chronic pain sufferers get it. I wish there was an operation that could cure my chronic pain. I would GLADLY get off my meds. I don't take them to get high, only to survive.
I have a jaw that pops out of place eveey day and i have to keep trying to get it to go back in. they think it's to do with my teeth being off alignment and that braces might help but insurance said it's cosmetic so im screwed. i only make enough to afford food and braces are hundreds a month
Whenever I'm stressed out, I'll wake up with my jaw completely locked. I'll usually just massage my jaw a bit and it'll go back to normal but it still sucks. It's really painful to chew and sometimes talk. One time it stayed locked for over a day and it cracks a lot. I told my dentist but she just said to stop moving my jaw around so much. Like... stop talking and eating..? Anyway jaw problems suck and I'm sorry for everyone who has them.
or if you are in pain, you can't think and you will get annoyed and will be mad everytime like if we have tooth ache. Having those chronic pain is horrible.
I have Endometriosis too and my doctor prescribed medical marijuana for me to use whenever it flares. It has been a life saver for me! Whenever my cycle would come around, I would be curled up in a ball in pain. Sweating tons from the feeling and even vomiting at times. Since there is no surgery or even medication for Endometriosis. I told my doctor that I would try anything. I'm just lucky that she is for trying holistic medicines before giving out pills left and right. In no way am I saying to become a stoner (XD). But, it has helped me in my time of need greatly and hopefully it will help you two as well?
Ms Control Hi I saw your comment and had to reply, I suffer from endo as well. And i'm not sure if your Doctor told you or you saw online that there's no surgery or medication but that's not quite true. There is no cure for it but you do have options to help it and slow it down. A few options are getting the depo shot, it pretty much put you into medical menopause so it would decrease your pain like you couldn't imagine. I can't do periods, like you said we just can't function during them and ovulating is torture too. I personally don't like the depo shot so I'm on Lupron instead, it some what stops the periods and it slows the growth a lot. The big issue with it is it's stupid expensive I live in Canada and it costs $400 a month. I'm blessed and have it covered but a lot of people especially in the states don't have that luxury but it's worth looking into. Another thing I tried was getting injections to numb the nerves around that area. Surgery wise they can go in and remove and cauterize the lesions. which usually slows things for a few years before you have to do it again. The only real affective 'cure' is a hysterectomy and obviously most people don't want that. Something else that may be worth looking into is the endometriosis cookbook, there's supposably things you can eat and not eat to help lol. Sorry this was long, iv just been through so much and would love to be able to help others. I wish I had people who could tell me the real options I have cause sometimes doctors don't. I wish you good health!
I have tmj and I'm 12 and it hurts so much and it has locked open and it kills I can't believe what she is living with I hope that won't happen to me and I hope she gets better
i dont have this but i have tmj and a year or two ago especially it was so bad that my jaw would lock when i yawned and it's literally fucking terrifying
I found out I actually have a genetic mutation that causes me to not make an enzyme that breaks down many medications (CYP2D6) so my pain medication was switched to one my body can process. I'm able to use lower dosages because my meds actually work. Also, physical dependence and tolerance are different than addiction.
"Hey, insurance company, I have a rare jaw disorder that means it never stopped growing, it causes me mass amounts of pain and i havent eaten solid food in years" Company: "Lol, sorry, that surgery to fix it is cosmetic, just for looks, nothing beneficial medically at allllllllll"
Okay ummm what insurance does she have cuz one of my aunts literally had a hairy ass mole on her chin and she told the doctor that it hurt her really bad, keep in mind they took samples of it to check if it was cancerous which it wasnt and her insurance covered to remove it. So for them to have deemed this as cosmetic sounds absurd to me ..
Who ever cringes while she takes medication well I don’t cringe I have to take pain medication everyday these people how cringe when you take your medicine have no heart in 10to15 years they will have to live off of pain medication and your going to be happy and heathy stay strong keep fighting I know you can make it your jaw will be fine in that amount of time and that situation will happen to them or something similar to that situation and you will de ok and you will love yourself afterwards
I need to know what insurance she uses so I can stay FAR AWAY.
Cammiboe from looking at the bill it looks like it says united health...
Just Ash damn. I have united...
don't touch bupa insurance
Cammiboe HONESTLY LOL
Luckily I live in the UK
Why is this considered cosmetic?! Insurance companies are so shameful the way they treat people!
Nattie bubbles they make money off her the rest of her life if she's on pills forever. Fix the problem and they lose a paycheck.
Insurance wouldn’t cover my hearing aids for the same reason.

sick bastards, they know once she get´s the surgery, she will never need painkillers and thus will be free of their dubious medication routine.
Kraye Inluv my reconstructive hand surgery was deemed cosmetic... It's pathetic.
Surgery was over $34k and not covered.
"Insurance has deemed it cosmetic" Honestly is it really that fucked up in the US???
Ikr, I don't know how people can live like that there and then claim that "it's the best country in the world". The best? my nuts are the best
It is. Plenty of us agree that we aren't the best. The republican party has fucked us over on so many levels. People die or kill themselves because they can't get treatment.
+16Meily deez nuts are the best lol
It's worse than that even. At least she was able to get to see a doctor, properly diagnosed and given pain meds at all.
Artie Choker lol yes
how the FUCK is that cosmetic?! why pay insurance if they don't protect you. SMH
MINAH THE CHAMPION and then liberty mutual calls, and you break into your happy dance
Was just about to comment that
Joseph Stalin
😂😭😂😭😂😭
Well she has to pay Insurance for the pain meds
If she needs a feeding tube then it's not cosmetic. smh
CJ Shannae what does it mean when she says her insurance deemed her 'cosmetic'?
Alyssa Nanorini like a nose job because you think it's not pretty enough
CJ Shannae Poor Lady it’s so obvious she needs the surgery
Alyssa Nanorini when it’s not needed to live and just to make you look better, Like breast implants.
sue your insurance company
Elizabeth lizz great idea
Elizabeth lizz worked for me!!
Elizabeth lizz If It is an HMO, you can’t sue them. The ERISA law protects them but not their victims (patients). I learned this the hard way.
Lisa Baltzer not at all true. “Who can sue under ERISA? By statute, only four classes of plaintiffs may sue under ERISA: plan participants, plan beneficiaries, the Secretary of Labor, and plan fiduciaries. You cant. And if you do you're not going to win
I've done this surgery. The aftermath is difficult but it was so worth it. No more locking, cracking jaw, I can now eat an apple without fear.
Did you have a total joint replacement or another procedure? How are you doing now?

I understand 100% what she’s going through! Drs, meds, everything!
OMG but she’s so stunning though and because she has gone through all this pain makes her so strong
i have TMJ and it's been so painful sometimes that the whole side of my face is in excruciating pain. to know someone experiences it worse than that is crazy.
This is terrible so sad! Hope the best for her
How is a locked up jaw cosmetic? How do these insurance companies employees sleep at night? She is only dependant on the pills because they won't do the surgery to get rid of the pain..
pharmaceutical companies make deals with insurance providers to maximize profit.
Most just want to throw pills at you.
my bottom jaw was growing about 0,5 cm to 1 cm forward per year and I couldn't bite normally
and the isurance deemed it cosmetical
that sucks. hope she's better
>I woke up screaming
>I couldn’t scream
My heart goes out to this lady😞
Are u okay now
Whats are his shoes at 3:44 😂😂
This is so sad, there’s so much pain in the world mayn always be grateful.
Mine cracks everytime I open my mouth. What should I do? Like a pretty loud crack.
i have been trying to get a dr to fix my back it has disabled me. i have been on pain pills since 2007 i understand the frustration my insurance has denied the spinal stimulator 2x medicare finally approved so jan i can start getting off meds!!!!
My Jaw Cracks When I Move it But It Doesn't Hurt Or Anything.
lol I have the same condition but less drastic.. on the left side of my face, my jaw doesn't stop growing. My face is drifting onto the right side because of that and my whole jaw is completely fucked up but i can kinda eat. i feel really sorry for her because i know how she feels like D:
Amai Hana me too! My cousins, aunts and mother also have it. Not fun.
She can appeal the denied decision for the procedure from her insurance. Oh man my heart goes out to her.
Every time I watch one of these medical stories, I feel grateful to live in a country with universal healthcare.
I know I go through struggles myself but don't give up hope
She can't eat solid food and the insurance deems the surgery "cosmetic?!" WTF?!
Cosmetic? Are you serious???
Bry harmabe ikr she's clearly in pain
Now that you mention it, my jaw kinda hurts
Alyssa Rasmussen 😁😁fr?!
waaait at 1:14 did she say 44 hours a day?
Aesthethìic? The jaw is pressing against the neck for fuck's sake !!!
In the right right side of my jaw, the cartalage connecting the bone to my skull disconnected making my jaw pop really loudly when I open my mouth. If I do it to many times a day it can get really sore, and it has locked up a few times making me have to punch my jaw to realign the cartilage. This was caused by implants behind my two front teeth to bring my lower jaw foreward because I had a slight overbite.
routine what surgery?
Probably something for carpal tunnel, they refer to it as "routine" because its a common surgery.
I’ve been her situation too I’m a tmj sufferer now for a year😭😭 and half and got therapy it’s been helping me 😐
i have had a painful jaw since i was a kid sadly im 26 now it all started at age 6
How is it deemed cosmetic? It's affecting her health with the meds and being in pain constantly.
I have tmj and my jaw locks closed on my left side I can't sleep on that side or it will lock. This is a struggle that affects my sleeping I've been like this for 6 months and it clicks and there is sometimes pain and this stresses me out everyday I'm 13 almost 14. My life is horrible
@TheDoctors
I am extremely disappointed with you using this lady as an example of this wrongly termed "Opiate Epidemic".
Crystal Murphy amen! Everything you said was spot on!
YES
Hallelujah!! You speak the truth. Someone who finally understands this whole situation. Only true chronic pain sufferers get it. I wish there was an operation that could cure my chronic pain. I would GLADLY get off my meds. I don't take them to get high, only to survive.
Crystal Murphy Completely agree with what you have said and in the same boat.
That's way to let long to read
I have a jaw that pops out of place eveey day and i have to keep trying to get it to go back in. they think it's to do with my teeth being off alignment and that braces might help but insurance said it's cosmetic so im screwed. i only make enough to afford food and braces are hundreds a month
Doctors I live in Australia I'm 15 and my jaw always locks and it hurts a lot ? An tips
Do they have a go fund me page ?
Lol my mouth is closed I can't leave the house...
I have TMJ. It hurts so bad, I can’t imagine the pain she’s in considering her diagnosis is worse.
Did they help her?
Whenever I'm stressed out, I'll wake up with my jaw completely locked. I'll usually just massage my jaw a bit and it'll go back to normal but it still sucks. It's really painful to chew and sometimes talk. One time it stayed locked for over a day and it cracks a lot. I told my dentist but she just said to stop moving my jaw around so much. Like... stop talking and eating..? Anyway jaw problems suck and I'm sorry for everyone who has them.
This is the pure definition of making money off someone's pain and suffering
sorry for being ignorant but why cant she leave the house?
I think its because she is always drugged up on pain pills. Not safe to drive and go about a regular day I assume.
or if you are in pain, you can't think and you will get annoyed and will be mad everytime like if we have tooth ache. Having those chronic pain is horrible.
So sad she's so beautiful
I take pain meds for Endometriosis
LadyStephyLynn hi I love you and I say that because I have endometriosis too! let's stay in contact
Ms Control Sadly medical marijuana isn't legal in my state. =(
LadyStephyLynn its not legal in my state either..I don't approve of weed but!!! If medical use then yes. But not for recreational
Ms Control
Hi I saw your comment and had to reply, I suffer from endo as well.
I think my sister had this problem as well, she got surgery and they removed the thing that made it grow...
That is not cosmetic!!! If you are in pain wtfff and you cant eat omgg
That hamster is a beauty :)
The fact you can't notice it until she wines is funny...
I didn't notice that her jaw kept on growing she looks stunning
I have TMJ... my orthodontist said I have the worst case they have ever seen in a child.
Mfw I have crooked smile and my jaw locks sometimes.
I wanna cry for her my jaw dislocates all the time
I got to this video by searching "Jaw pain ruining my life"
I just can't do this anymore
i dont have this but i have tmj and a year or two ago especially it was so bad that my jaw would lock when i yawned and it's literally fucking terrifying
Are you Ok now?
I found out I actually have a genetic mutation that causes me to not make an enzyme that breaks down many medications (CYP2D6) so my pain medication was switched to one my body can process. I'm able to use lower dosages because my meds actually work. Also, physical dependence and tolerance are different than addiction.
"Hey, insurance company, I have a rare jaw disorder that means it never stopped growing, it causes me mass amounts of pain and i havent eaten solid food in years"
Company: "Lol, sorry, that surgery to fix it is cosmetic, just for looks, nothing beneficial medically at allllllllll"
My jaw does the same thing it just hasn’t locked yet my dentist said if I don’t get it fixed it will lock
Cosmetic surgery?!?!?!?
Looks a bit like ICR (Idiopathic Condilar Resorption)as well. . . I have it, and it can cause your jaw to recede.
