Unsubscribe
When I am checking out, I have started unchecking the box that says receive future promo emails or things along those lines. It has helped a lot.
Sometimes I unsubscribe yet I STILL keep getting them 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Gmail has guidelines now against this practice. Report it.

When you have that many emails, I highly recommend you consider adding an unsubscribe step in between the tagging and deleting. It'll help you prevent this happening again in the future. Ask me how I know. 😅

I keep my inbox zero, and treat it as to do list, if I see something new in my inbox I make decision if I want to delate it right away (most of the times, even after unsubscribing from not wanted) or I want to keep it in the archive (personal stuff etc) I it's still in the inbox it means I need to take action. That way I have only important things to do in my main inbox and some emails that I keep in the archive (like invoices, online shopping documetns). I use labels and filter but thank you for showing me better way to do it in more automatic way

It’s too much to create labels for every different mailing list. I created one called junk mail and just filter everything into that and then go through that as needed.
I use the labeling feature, but mostly just for important emails. I never thought to sort the junk that way too.

I have been watching Dana's videos for a couple years now. I never comment. I just like and subscribe. But I swear this video makes me feel heard like no other. Yeah, I have thousands of emails and every few years I get the Itch to clear it out.... Because it's so overwhelming I procrastinate. But if this were the case and I could speed through this process it would be so much better. My email will NEVER be under great control, but this at least will help tame the chaos a bit.

This was for me! I did the search as you did, but also got the 'close' emails, so the label trick was amazing. Thank you so much. And more on this. Digital may be more easily put out of sight/out of mind, but the dang stuff still collects like dust.

This is a great tip - at first I didn't want all those labels, but the automatic nature for future is great! One concern I have is about losing order info, but maybe that doesn't get picked up - I guess I will need to experiment with that.

This was SUPER helpful. I had heard of filters but never really understood them and now I do. No need to be embarrased by the 1,000+ from Lands End. I'm sure its the same for me.

I haven’t made labels for this purpose (though I might now), but have searched by email address then bulk delete. When I do make labels, I always have them skip the inbox so it only has unlabeled email.

I have never decluttered my email. I have over 18,000 on this hone and about 120,000 pictures saved on a flash drive.

That's a good option that I didn't know about, cool.
I achieve similar results (this works for nearly anywhere you can see your email) by switching the primary sort function from date to sender. It puts everything in alphabetical order first which groups everything from a sender together and those are still organized by date. Then I can use any bulk or detailed selection method I prefer to delete.
Some (though not all) email providers and email programs have options for setting a limit for each sender by quantity or by date which makes the software do the deleting for you.

I seem to manage texts better than email so I've converted as many notifications to text as I possibly can. Confess my first thought was "this takes too long" but willing to try it since it's a one time set up.
