Great way to save $4k. Many plumbing companies are absolutely thieves. I was just quoted $5200 to replace a power vent water heater that is one sale at Lowe’s for $1200. Going to do it myself.
should've taken and added a 1/4 turn shutoff shark-bite onto the cold side since the old valve was no longer working 100% - gate valves are a PIA to work with when they get old. otherwise great job on the DIY install!!
Good job. In areas prone to earthquakes (Washington State for ex.) you are now required to place 2 straps (plumbers tape) to hold the tank in place...one high and one low. Nicely done.
ABS pipe is porous and prone to cracks due to the exhaust fumes. In Canada it lo longer meets build codes and need to be replaced by a thick wall PVC pipe. Otherwise, you are at risk of releasing deadly fumes into your house. Just my 2 cents
When you were feeling the tank you should have opened the pressure release valve so that you don't have any air inside your tank unless of course you had some faucets open while you were filling it. If you have too much air in your tank you'll be heating that air up which could cause the tank to explode.
I had a similar problem when I had my last water heater die. The new heaters have a little more insulation making them wider. Unfortunately, to fit in one of the newer ones, I would either have to have had my furnace temporarily removed and then reinstalled or demolish an adjacent bathroom wall and shower stall. After several hours of searching, the installers were able to find one of the old style skinny ones.
Fantastic work, dude! Pretty interesting how it's done there! 😃 Here we use electric showers... But it never gets that cold anyway. About not feeling any smell, check with a doctor. 🧐 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I just bought this and brother was going to install but was unsure about the vent being electrical. If there electric were to go out would that mean no hot water
hot water tank pan drain - why didn't you use one to keep the floor dry? You could have run your pipe from the pan to the clean-out pipe. Just a thought in the future.
I had a hot water heater fail catastrophically in the middle of the night somewhat recently. It didn't have a drain pan, but luckily there was a floor drain just inches away! Unfortunately, the floor also slopes away from that drain... New one is in a drain pan.
When moving heavy things over solid flooring, put a towel under what you are moving and just pull the towel. Grab one out of the laundry bin while your wife is not looking.
Nope. No floor drain in that room. And all the house water lines are in there so when something breaks its all screwed. I had a pin hole leak on one of the original solder joints spray everywhere one day. That was fun.
@@DIYBuilds a friend put a water detection sensor that warned him on an app. It was a pin hole on the pipe that was spraying right on the sensor. If it was spraying anywhere else it wouldn't have warned him. You could put one on a pan to let you know if the tank starts leaking.
@@DIYBuilds Poland , Europe. but if I have but honest it was mostly because people were stealing gas (knee pipe on gas meter) in apartment block's and a few blow out in past. So now you need inspector for any change and also you have to let him in once every year so he can see pipes and check for leaks. So now you have context why I'm a little jealous of your building freedom in CA.
clear and simple, no fluff! good stuff, thanks for posting!
Great video. Clear and concise. No horrible music. And most importantly, you don't try to be funny. Excellent job!

In next week's episode: Making/installing a wider door to the furnace room. 😉

Nice Job i will do myself on this coming weekend.

Water Heater: End Game came out sooner than I expected!
Such a big help. Thank you! Getting ready to go inspect mine. 70 year old house. Brand new to me.
Every time you say "shark bite" I flash back to Finding Nemo. Nice work as always and I appreciate the step-by-step explanation of the process.

I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Nice video you are one lucky guy. Until the next video please be safe.
I'm in Canada and we have to upgrade the ABS pipe to 636 pvc pipe
I'm in Canada and if you do it yourself you don't have to do anything.
Ha! Your kid bouncing in the background! great stuff, A+ content

YOU CAN'T USE ABS PIPE "IT'S FOAM CORE PIPE" FOR VENTING ON A WATER HEATER IT HAS TO BE PRESSURE SCH 40 PVC PIPE WHITE PIPE WITH PRESSURE ON IT.
Ya well that's the way it is. That's the way it is everywhere around here. Also I didn't install the abs.
nice work. BTW, you should avoid coiling cables up as they can heat up alot more. worth trimming IMO :)
Only 0.4A draw. It will be fine.
@@DIYBuilds well that's not much at all.
What kind of pipe is being used for the gas line? It doesn't look like steel pipe to me.
Copper tubing with a flared fitting. Not normal here anymore but used to be.
HOOO YEAHHHHHHH
Do a project with the old heater
.
Scrap man took it away promptly.
👍👍👍👍

I used kids hockey socks to glide across the floor.
Well done! Now it looks like it's time for a nice HOT shower! 👍👍😉😉
Golden even ;)

in my part of world it's illegal to plug or unplug gas line without inspector with gas detector to check if everything is tight ...
What part is that?
