Watching this video gave my husband and I the confidence we needed in order to replace our water heater. Thank you for this! It wasn't nearly as hard as what we pictured. I appreciated this video showing slowly step by step and also that sometimes things don't go easy, problems with disconnecting the pipes, in our case we had a very small area to place the water heater, and my husband and 14 year old ended up having to lift it up over the gas pipe, will my husband was scrunched into the corner of the closet the water heater fits into. This video helped us so much! Thank you for teaching it slowly and thoroughly. 😊👍
Extremely good work patience step by step instructions and direction calm poise collective appreciate you taking the time to explain to the beginners and the novel students how to properly turn off gas line water main and remove unit thank you so much blessings be with you and your family❤
Great video thank you. One question: what are those two white plastic pieces you removed the cold and hot water nipples on top of the water tank? I was reading they are heat traps?
my pilot is lite and the burner comes on but after 20 minutes the burner goes out and the pilot does stay lite. no hot water. any idea do I need a new water tank?
Is it old. Sounds like it might be done. Especially since no hot water after running after 20 min. No leaks anywhere right. Sorry not an expert on these , so hard to advise
The gas line scares me other than that I have no issues replacing mine, I've gotten a quote it will cost me $6,000 while my bank account has only $388 in it.
i know its scary. if you're a little handy you should be able to do it safely. just have to turn of gas with the valve and it wont flow test to make sure etc. maybe find a neighbor or friend to help. take your time. but if feel uncomfortable obviously dont do it. but find a better deal. $6000 makes no sense even if someone is marking up a lot. that heater if i remember correctly was maybe $500 or so. Lots of these guys throw these crazy numbers at people because they know people scared to do themselves. they take advantage. have them give you a breakdown of the costs. makes no sense.
i hope you can find someone that did this before to help you out. Take your time, and use enough pipe dope ( i didn't on my first time) . and have soapy water to test for leak. I think you will be fine.
Those flex connectors are not supposed to be kinked like that. Please man use the tools correctly. Your knuckles will thank you. They move towards the jaw opening
Only for a closed system, he may not have a pressure reduction valve and is using straight pressure from the city water supply. Did you check your pressure with a guage?
The cold flex line is kinked, If you change out the anode rod every 3 or 4 years the tank will last longer than the guarantee, It's not a replace by date.
Watching this guy using the pipe wrench made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. He did not have a clue on how to use the pump attached to the drill. He could not figure out how to take the gas pipe apart. "SCARY"
It Wasn’t even broken was the first clue 😂 idk why someone would willingly choose to spend the time and the money to replace something that didn’t break yet? Piece of mind… yea I guess, as long as you dont get a defective unit 🥶I feel ya though. job well done & good video thanks for sharing
I stopped watching when you didnt even know how to disconnect the gas line,. Had the pipe wrenches held backwards as you tried to disconnect the pipes. Then you kept trying to spin the piece off and the connector kept hitting the tank., and seem baffled . Then I went to the comments and see that people said you removed the heat shields out of the water hose connectors. Sorry, But dont put videos out when youre not sure. Especially when natural gas is involved!
Everything was going smoothly until you pronounced Rheem like it was some Muslim name. You don't pronounce the "h" at all. It's just said Reem. Just giving you a hard time bro. Lol. Thx for the video.
This guy made this job very easy to me. He looked like a human and I can relate to him great job Sir.
appreciate that.
Best Detail video ever! Great job.
Thank you 👍
Put bubbles on after you turn the gas on. I’m trying to replace my water heater today and your video really helps! Thank you!

Thanks Bud, you gave me the confidence to do it, just got done, no leaks, I had to solder my copper piping, thumbs up !!
Yeah. Cooper piping better than flex. Awesome 👊

Still good as of today. Thanks
Nice job man!
Thanks 👍
Great video thank you. One question: what are those two white plastic pieces you removed the cold and hot water nipples on top of the water tank? I was reading they are heat traps?
Great Video, it motivates me to do by myself.
Nice 👍
Great step by step video!
Thanks
Great video man thank you
Thanks 👊
What would you do if the gas pipie was too short to reach the gas inlet? Flex line?
If you got same style heater all should line up. Use only approved piping. Flex if they have it but I would say stay with solid
i m wondering how come the expansion tank was not installed.
Great work
thank you! appreciate it.
Nicely done
Thanks 👊
Do you need to remove the white plastic sleeve for hot and cold before installation began?
Yes. I pull those out at about the 16:35 mark with the pliers before connecting the hoses
what happens if you don't?@@HowToWithLech
You shouldn't. They are there for a purpose. Heat traps
I thought the alien was a guy just standing there 😂
HHaha 👊
Dont forget to open a sink faucet to release the tank and line air when filling it up.and your crimped cold sharkbite line is too long.
yes. thanks
I could only use flex pipe on one side, the other had to solder new fittings and pipe.
Hey whatever works 👊
You don't need an expansion tank for the cold water? And how can I do if my gas line is too high and I want to bring my heater down to the floor?
Expansion tank? No.
You’ll need to extend the gas line/piping than. See what they have at hardware store for that.
Thank You so much!
Yes 👍👊
Thank you very much
👍👊

looks like its done. Thats exactly what happened to my Rheem. I replaced it with a new one.

You did not install Vacuum valve???
It’s the same setup my original was
How much to install this water heater?
I’m pretty sure they charge crazy prices
Cut off the 90 and move the grounding straps above
👍. Plan to redo all that upper piping at some point.
Those flex connectors are not supposed to be kinked like that. Please man use the tools correctly. Your knuckles will thank you. They move towards the jaw opening
👍
Just have to hope that you catch the leak early because that drain pan is not going to hold 40 gallons of water
Yup. Have that Alarm there.
Most water heaters i replace are from 1980's. They will last 40 years lol. Plus its not a hazard to keep it till it dies out.
Old stuff was made to last
...um you forgot the thermal expansion tank. All new water heaters require them now.
i'll look into it, but wasnt mentioned to me when was getting it. thanks for sharing
Only in some states.
Thanks. Will make note 👊
Where do I even begin?
Turn off gas first 😉
Thanks much. Audio is so feeble
👍
I guess pipe tape doesn't matter 🤷🏽♂️
Are u kidding me? Him disconnecting that gas line told me everything I need to know about this Master Plumber!
I’m not a plumber 👍👊. Just sharing my project

That kink in the water line does not look good.
Not best solution but worked for now. Might do all new copper piping later on
@@HowToWithLech I used the metal red and blue ones from Home Depot they bend and stay bent.
You lost me with the pipe-wrenching confusion, and lack of editing.
Patience 👊
As real as it gets.
The dude has a family, not a vlogging studio. 👍
Yikes……do not do anything this kid did……!
👍
TERRIBLE JOB....SORRY
It’s ok
Does you need.. put an expanded tank,???????
I never had one. But I think that’s a new thing now yes.
Everything was going smoothly until you pronounced Rheem like it was some Muslim name. You don't pronounce the "h" at all. It's just said Reem. Just giving you a hard time bro. Lol. Thx for the video.
Hahah. All good. Had no clue how to be honest. 👍👊
