I had a doubt about the anuswara ! As we know that the anuswara' m ' gets converted to the following vyanjanani group . The doubt is about Sibilants like श ष स and य र ल व ह ? How to pronounce the anuswara 'm' before them ? Please explain! It would be of immense help

Anuswara before m will also be pronounced as m. So it will sound like double m.
Anuswara before य ल व pronounced with a nasal sound.

    In Sri suktam
    If it is alakshmi
then why s symbol is used instead of a.
Kindly explain clearly with extra examples.

प्रप॑द्येऽल॒क्ष्मीर्मे॑ - in this example from Sri Suktham, 3 words are joined. Joining of words in Samskritam is called Sandhi. The 3 words are Prapadye, Alakshmi, Me.
When Alakshmi is suffixed after Prapadye, the A is replaced by the S symbol. In sandhi, when a word beginning with A is suffixed, the A is replaced by this symbol. This symbol indicates that there was an A there.
See any Veda text in Devanagari script. You will find plenty of examples of this symbol. In all of them, this symbol indicates the beginning of a word starting with A.

      Namaskarams.
      Thank you sir.
still there is a lingering doubt.
What is the difference between telling ALAKSHMI when sandhi is there and telling ALAKSHMI when sandhi is not there?
is there any time gap or something?

    • @learnvedasanskrit
      @learnvedasanskrit  3 года назад +6

When sandhi is NOT there, it is just pronounced as 2 separate words. When sandhi is there, the ending-vowel of the first word is prolonged just a little bit while chanting. In this example the YE ending of Prapadye will be prolonged a bit, and Alakshmi will start in continuity with that, without a break.
In Vedas, usually, when the first word ends with a vowel, and the 2nd word begins with A, this type of sandhi with the S symbol WILL be there.
The BHAVANA or understanding is important too, as explained in the video. We must chant with the awareness that we are referring to ALAKSHMI (poverty / inauspiciousness to be destroyed); or AMRUTAM (immortality, to be bestowed upon us, in the other example).

Learning Samskritam, at least basic level, will definitely help
