He is a hero, saved every single life on that plane. And they had the nerve to sue him! NO Plane is worth saving if it cost human life. I don't care how much that plane cost. I am so proud of Captain Sullivan for thinking of the passengers first!
Yes it’s easy to forget the lives that would have been lost on the ground if he’d tried to make it to an airport. I suppose he knew by landing the the Hudson the worst case scenario was everyone on board dies but landing on a densely populated area would kills hundreds on the ground as well as those in the plane.

The airline was protecting their six. They were willing to sacrifice a hero pilot to do it instead of having his back. Remember that the next time you make flight reservations.
Just came to say this! People did EVERYTHING to paint him as a villain, a criminal, and destroy his life but he stood strong in his belief that was his only option and lost NO ONE on board.
Almost every airline will do this regardless of the situation. They always want to pin the blame on someone or something, even if whatever caused the crash was an act of nature such as the bird strike.

There was a guy in the 1990s whose plane was hit by a Cessna. Both pilots were killed he had almost no instrumentation. This guy who was a pilot in Vietnam landed a 727 in the dark with no instruments. Half of the cockpit was gone. He later said if he would have taken time to think about what he was trying to do, he couldn’t have done it. He was constantly thinking about what he needed to do, and then doing it, he didn’t have time to be afraid or question just how small of a chance that pulling it off actually was.
The FAA actually praised Captain Sullenberger and First Officer Skyles for their skills in landing the plane safely and keeping everyone alive. What was in the movie was a dramatization to build up the tension.
This is still so amazing to me how Sully "landed" on the Hudson and saved everyone on board! Even while the plane was sinking, he (as the pilot should) walked through the entire length to make certain everyone was out.

I feel like an airplane would ‘nautrally’ have some kind of buoyancy cause of its structure, but they are obviously they are heavy. I’d say though the fuel tanks having decent amount of fuel in them (because the strike happened not long after take off) would help with the buoyancy as well.
