    Frozen pizzas are a joke now. In our area, the cheapest Red Baron pizzas are on sale, 2 for $14.00. My grown sons can easily eat one a piece. Our local Domino’s is cheaper than that and someone else does the work. I grew up as a child of the 60’s and 70’s, and there was very little convenience food. My mother made bread crumbs without a food processor because there was no other method. She didn’t can but my grandmother (her mom) did. She grew all her vegetables and canned them and they lasted until the next harvest season. When we ran out of flour or corn meal, we drove to my dad’s homestead (where he grew up) and loaded the car with flour and cornmeal. We were happy, no one was overweight, and life was uncomplicated. The best thing, we were all so happy! Thanks for a great video! You need a small chalkboard to show us how much you put up in each video. Some of us are getting older and can’t keep up!! 😀

    Great video! My mom used to put pizza doughs, rolled out to fit her pan, in the freezer, but without being baked or topped. That only happened, though, long after I had left the house. It was only about 1961 when I was in the 7th grade that we ever had a pizza, and it seems unimaginable now to think of life without it. I prep the dough and put rounds (not rolled out) in the freezer . However, I need to be sure to label them because they look quite a bit like the pie dough rounds too! This is a great time saver and I love it. Ditto with the bread crumbs.

    I make frozen pizzas without pre cooking the crust. I make the pizza on a baking sheet, freeze, and then remove from baking sheet and then either put in food saver vacuum seal bag if pizza is small enough, or wrap in plastic wrap if bigger. 2 gallon zip locks work well after wrapping in plastic wrap and the zip locks can be reused. Then I cook from frozen either on baking sheet at 425 degrees or directly on pizza steel. Great video!!

    When I prep apples in the fall, I line 5-6 pie pans with plastic wrap and mix up sliced apples for apple pies, and put them in the lined pan to freeze. Once frozen, I set the pan bottom into hot water, to help release it, if frozen to the pan, and wrap the apple pie filling really well, so I just need to make, or thaw a piecrust, and drop the frozen pie filling into the pan. I cook it covered, on a cookie sheet, to catch any overflow. It takes longer to bake, so I keep it covered, until the apples are cooked through, then uncover it, to brown the crust. I always spray my top crusts with a little water and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar all over the top crust, because that's how my mom always made it! Withing a couple hours, I can have a fresh baked pie, that doesn't taste like canned pie filling! I use the same frozen apples to make apple crisp, too. I just don't make any crust and put a crisp topping over it!

    I saved my turkey carcass and the neckbone and the organs and it made the best turkey stock. I thought of this because of your videos so thank you. Also great idea with the leftover bread. I'll be doing that from now on to. I canned my stock in my new Carey canner and I love this canner. It has been a game changer for me. Took me a couple times to get the hang of it but I'm good to go now. I do have a question though. Do you ever use less than what the can't calls for. Like two or three quarts or pints? I notice you use regular mouth jars as well. I am going to use mine to because that's what I have the most of. It says for best results to use wide mouth but I've got a lot of money already invested in my regular mouth glass jars. Have you ever had any trouble with the regular mouth jars in yours?

    • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife
      @SouthernWifeEverydayLife  Год назад

      @oliviabrewer1867 I do ❤️ I just put jars of water to fill in the space. I don’t put lids and rings on my jars of water. But people do can water. I personally don’t. Don’t forget to put a little vinegar in your canner as well to help with hard water ❤️❤️ Ask away!
