  • The Maratha Empire was the greatest empire in the Indian subcontinent before the British planted their feet in India. Its inception is often accredited to the great Chattrapati Shivaji Bhosle and rightly so.
    But what is often overlooked and forgotten, is the contribution of his father Shahji Bhosle in sowing the seeds of the great Hindu empire.
    In this video, we talk about the origins of Shahji, his rise to power and how he influenced and shaped the formation of the Maratha Empire.

    || जगदीश विरंचुक पुछत है
    तुम स्रुष्टि रचे रखे कौन कहा
    रखे पुरब रवि शशी पछ्छीम को
    इतं शाहजी है उतं‌ शाहजहां ||
    This is a poetry written by a poet in North India (whose name I unfortunately do not remember) during the reign of Shahajahan. The poet has created a scenario where Bramha asks Vishnu (Jagdishwar) that "O lord you have created this wonderful and splendid earth, but to whom have you assigned it's protection ?" To which Vishnu replies "I have kept sun to guard the west, moon to guard the east whereas Shahajahan guards the north and Shahaji guards the south"
    The poet wanted to indicate that if Shahajahan is the most powerful man in the north, then Shahji is the most powerful man in the south.
    Salutations to Sarlashkar Mahabali Shahaji Raje Maharajsaheb !

    Kindly refrain from labelling SHIVAJI AS 'DIMINUTIVE' - short height doesn't mean DIMINUTIVE which is a different meaning. Choose proper words kindly.

      Noted. But what exactly does diminutive mean?

      @@ChroniclesOfIndia It means extremely or unusually small

      Thanks. And how is that offensive? Also, it doesn't mean extremely small. It just means smaller than usual, and has been used as an adjective to describe the physical stature.

      @@ChroniclesOfIndia I don't think it is offensive personally, I just told what it meant, but mr. Vyas seems very offended about it.
