  • At Suerte, a Mexican-inspired restaurant helmed by Fermín Núñez in Austin, Texas, tortillas are the foundation of the menu. But who’s behind the 24-hour-long process of bringing them to life? Meet sisters Hellen and Dayanara Villafranca from the island of Roatán, Honduras. Early each morning, Helen walks to work in order to grind freshly nixtamalized corn into masa, and every evening, she passes the baton to sister Dayanara, who presses and cooks that masa into hundreds of tortillas for service. This is the story of Helen y Dayanara.

I feel as though this hits home for a lot of us immigrants. As my parents would say “échale ganas.” La lucha sigue.

@@Masienda De nada Masienda. We are proud members of the Molinito club and have a small tortilla company and taqueria here in Hawaii. Big abrazo to Tony, for arranging the shipping of corn, cal, presses and much more. He’s been a tremendous help. Mahalo y Gracias. United en Masa. 🤙🏾

One love from Houston, Tx. Hands down Houston and San Antonio can not touch Suerte as far as Austin,Tx is concerned. The Suerte concept is 2nd to none. When I'm in Austin, it's already understood that I'm making an appearance at Suerte. 🎯💯🥂🤘🏾🇨🇱

Excellent real life story, of two women determined and on their grind. Keep mashing for your dreams. Love.

I've been there. The food was excellent. The tamal with white sauce and pinenuts was phenomenal. Excellent video. Is this the molinito 7.5 they are using?

It is so delicious! And David I don't think it's a Molinito 7.5. There aren't any in Texas... yet!
