Hey Josh! Thank you so much for this informative video. I would appreciate it if you please gave me some advice here. I've dropped out of my Associates degree in Information Security. Can I still use the credits I have earned when in the degree to use towards the bachelor's at WGU or you recommend do a fresh start?
Hey Cesar, you have to do the courses before enrolling in WGU. Once you start classes at WGU, you can't transfer any courses in :). I would recommend talking with an enrollment counselor first to get an idea for which courses you'll need to complete, then just complete the ones that you can from study.com!
Thank you. This answered my question on whether I would register at WGU first. Logically that would be the first step, but I was unsure if by registering at WGU first you would be obligated to start at WGU right away. I wish I had found out about WGU years ago, it would have saved a lot of time.
Sweet baby Jesus, I am glad I found you. I want to streamline my degree, im 40 yrs old, retired from the army at 32, and now I am rushing myself to finish. No reason to rush, I want to accomplish my goal before my youngest starts kinder.
I am on the spreadsheet for Computer Science.. I am looking at the transfers vs the program specific courses. I am a bit confused in the video a lot of the courses you showed at 13:18 we are able to take outside of WGU. Has it changed or am I just misunderstanding?
I'm not sure TBH. I'm looking at this now: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SHtCCKJafxrTJiB-59s8GOAn2J4b1dqCDjm-iurA9oU/edit#gid=638724391 There are currently 22 transfers from study(.)com!
Probably Software Development, Cybersecurity, or Cloud. My anecdotal sense is that it's easier to make a lot of money faster with cloud (As a SaaS/Cloud Support Engineer). a LOT more goes into something like that than just degree, but if I were forced to answer, that's what I'd say :). Also the new cloud tracks are dope at WGU, I made a video about them recently :)
Hey Jackie. Check the degree program links on the left in this document, then find the degree you want to see the mappings for: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DD4YO9iBJjqaU7VJ4fULTAMep30HtzsdLI6Spt_oZXo/edit#gid=423363706
Hey Saif! Go here: partners.wgu.edu/Pages/Partners.aspx then scroll to the bottom left where it says, "Sophia Learning LLC". those are all the equivalent Sophia classes.
Hey Josh! In your opinion, is it more worthwhile to take "Business of IT - Project Management" outside of WGU or to take it with WGU and get the COMPTIA Project+ Cert? I have read from students that the COMPTIA Project+ exam can be very grinding and tedious. I don't want to waste time on the WGU course if it can be easily fulfilled elsewhere. Do you believe the certification is something that employers really care that much about? Thanks for any input you can provide!
Hey Jacob. It's hilarious that you asked this because I just mentioned this in a video a few days ago haha. Check this out @11:04 of this video: ruclips.net/video/ZeejoMDjgb4/видео.html I would recommend taking it outside of WGU if you can. Hope this helps! 😂
Capstone for CS? It was solving some business problem using machine learning. not only you gotta write some program, you have to do a report and some docs. I DID end up doing a full stack web app though, hehe
WGU has grants and scholarships but I never see anyone discussing that in their videos when it comes to WGU...any tips or info on this would be extremely helpful I'm sure for many people...thanks
Some of the courses are extremely long (College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Discrete Math) all took me 30-40hrs each to complete. Good thing is some of the lessons in one math class may transfer over to another, lowering the amount of quizzes needed to finish. The proctored exams are also no joke, lots of rules to follow about showing the room on video, making sure no one else is in the room or speaks to you, etc.
Again, I really appreciate you making these videos. I have a few questions, if you feel comfortable answering them. If not, that is ok too. 1. Do you feel as though jobs may look at you different from getting degrees in such a short time? Or do you feel like the time it takes to get the degree isn't relevant? I know people have their stigma about not going the for the degree as long as you do traditionally, but honestly, I wouldn't even be considering a degree if it wasn't for a place like WGU. Does "start date and graduation date" come into conversion of the interview when they ask about your degree, and how do you go about that? I am hoping to avoid that conversation if the stigma is as big as the internet makes it seem. 2. With all the degrees that you've obtained at WGU (and I know that you have years of experience behind it), but do you notice a significant increase in income due to those degrees? Do you also see a faster response from jobs after applying? And I guess that will lead me to: do you think while in pursuit of the degree, that companies are more likely to respond to you rather than if you weren't attending WGU at all? I already have the experience (will be doing the Bachelor's for Cloud Computing) but it seems that I will need the degree just to get the doors somewhat open for me. Due to my name being Pharaoh, I probably get to face some name discrimination behind the scenes; however, I would like to cross off all the check marks I can to increase my chances of getting the jobs. I still plan on going to WGU regardless and will start my classes on December 1st instead of November 1st, so I can transfer as many credits as possible. But I just wanted to ask you because you have more clarification, and my friends who went to college, graduated a long time ago (and also not in tech). I didn't know if there would necessarily be a difference since that scenario is a different career field. My counselor has also told me one thing, yet another counselor I spoke to (since he was unavailable) had some contradicting answers to what I had originally been given. It reminded me of the stress that I remember feeling when trying to apply to college straight out of high school lol. Thanks again, for whatever info and help you can relay, Josh.
Sorry, one more question! Was it hard for you to correlate the classes on the excel sheet for what's needed in the degrees? Depending on how this goes, I plan on doing the MBA Information Technology Management, Data Analytics, or the MS Information Technology Management. (Especially since the MBA and MS ITM is 10/11 courses). The Data Analytics would be great too, but probably not "as easy".
Hey Pharaoh! 1. I haven't really had any problems with my WGU degrees, the timeline RARELY comes up. It has only come up once in my lifetime and it was my coworker asking me about it after I was already hired. It's never come up in interviews. On my resume, I don't put "from" dates, I only put the date that I graduated. When I'm forced to put a "from" date on a job form or something, I will just be truthful and put it in. Even for my MS, which i finished in 12 days, lmao. I wouldn't say there is any stigma associated with it since IT doesn't even require degrees in the first place--they are just kind of an extra icing on the cake. Skill/exp is usually paramount. 2. I get a LOT of job spam from recruiters. Usually more than one per day. I'm not 100% sure if I can attribute it to my degrees, or my experience, or what, but it's likely a package deal between all those things and keyword hits on my resume/linkedin profile. Also, the thing you said about your name...My actual name is "Nnamdi" but I don't go by it because it's so foreign and people (as well as myself) don't even know how to pronounce it. Discrimination is real, that's partially why I go by Josh and don't even put my legal name on my resume. I actually had a coworker named Mohammad that changed his name to a super American sounding name to avoid the discrimination. I'm hoping it becomes less and less in the future, but we'll see. Btw, I'm not telling you to get a nickname lol. I'm just acknowledging the concern :) Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, and thanks for coming to the streams :)
It wasn't hard! WGU has a site for this: partners.wgu.edu/ Just look on the bottom right for "Study.com", then it shows all the different degrees/courses with the equivalent Study.com classes
@@JoshMadakor Thanks for getting back to me, again! I think for me, they are probably more likely to ask how long I've been attending since I plan on applying to some positions while in pursuit of the degree. Kinda hoping not, because I don't want them to think I'm a "beginner". It's been a conundrum of "we want you to have a degree" vs "we want you to have skills." So, now I will have both (hopefully really soon) and I hope there won't be an excuse not to hire me. (Although, I think it's weird going into an interview and then being told that. It's not like it's a surprise since they have my application and resume?) lol I understand on the discrimination part. I was actually hoping you didn't have a story like that, but I'm happy that you shared. I don't want to pick a name, but I did anyway, because I don't have the luxury to wait for people to get over their discrimination. I currently use "Harvey", but it annoying now. Going on two years that I've been using it. Part of me feels like "if they don't want to hire me because of my name, then I don't want to work for them," but I can't really combat that scenario when I have bills to pay. I don't plan on changing my name; however, if I did, it still wouldn't be anything that would make them choose me (probably anime related). But maybe once your foot is in the door, you can go back to your name? I'm hoping that's the case for me. With that being said, if you have to show your degrees as proof, does it have "Josh" on it, or your birth name? And does it come into question? I would think it would be inappropriate for them to ask "why is it different" (some legalities somewhere, Title VII)
Do you know of any sites to prep to complete classes and taking CLEP exams for gen Ed (college level examination program) . I ask because with CLEP you can transfer those credits to any college or most state or universities. Since with study only select schools take those credits .
Hey Oscar, I was talking about this with one of my viewers and they actually told me about degree forum. There's a section in there that looks promising: Main Forum: www.degreeforum.net/mybb/ CLEP, DSST, UExcel, and TECEP Exam Discussion: www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Forum-CLEP-DSST-UExcel-and-TECEP-Exam-Discussion hope this helps :o), if not, I'm so sorry lol
In study.com, all the quizzes are really short, like 3-5 questions each if I recall. You also can retake them 3x and it will take your highest score. I just take them once, research the answers to learn it, then take it again and hope I get a higher score lol. Also, when you're looking at which classes from study.com match to WGU, often it will show MANY classes that match. It's not saying you have to do all of them, I believe it's just letting you know which classes at study.com satisfy the WGU class, so you can just choose one. I'd double-check, but I'm 99% certain this is the case. Hope it helps!
Hello! Can anybody here advise some math tutorials for me to get my brain going again before attempting these courses?? 🤔 I haven't been to school for 10years. Please give advice 🙏🏽 😔

Hey I need advice! So I know you stated you went to WGU and completed a B.S, in Computer Science and then IT. Were both B.S.? I thought about taking B.S. in Computer Science then M.S in Data Analytics. My career goal is to be in Data Science. Should I take this route? Or should I do a B.S in IT also just in case? Are there many hits for this career?
Study.com is not only for americans, and some schools that accept study.com accept international students (such as Thomas Edison State University - TESU). Hope this helps :)

hey josh, thank you sooooo much for this!!! this may sound like a dumb question but looking at the transfer credit page on some of the courses is shows multiple classes you can take on like *((Accounting 101 (SDCM-0075), Accounting 201 (SDCM-0124), or Accounting 202 (SDCM-0152)) and ((Accounting 102 (SDCM-0076), Accounting 301 (SDCM-0077), or Accounting 303 (SDCM-0105)) for Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting. am i supposed to take just one class or multiple classes in order to get the transfer credit? sorry a little confused.
Hey Sergio! You only have to do one of the courses! The one with the * next to it is the "recommended" one. This is what WGU says, hidden at the bottom of the page: "*This course is recommended for transfer credit." Hope this helps! Not a dumb question at all!
@@JoshMadakor thanks dude fr fr I’m legit getting my butt back into school and your tips and tricks totally made me what to get my MBA after I get my bachelors 😭
I totally just noticed this and kinda panicked thinking, do I have to take all these classes? Thanks for asking Sergio and answering the question Josh! I feel a lot better.
Accounting is a special case, you'll need to take Accounting 101 & Accounting 201 & Accounting 301 to get Fundamentals of Financial & Managerial Accounting through WGU. Be sure to speak with your enrollment counselor, but this is what mine told me.
_>I thought you couldnt transfer in credits from anywhere once youve already started._ This is accurate! _> How about if I change courses can I transfer in credits then?_ It looks like you can do this if you withdraw from WGU. Thanks for the great content and tips. I am a respiratory therapist and starting WGU’s Cyber security degree program with no prior IT experience. Do you think getting the Google IT cert would be beneficial prior to starting WGU?
Hey Earl, it will definitely prime you a little bit for some technical concepts, so if you have the time and money, go for it. Also, I believe it satisfies a class in the BS Cyber, according to this chart: www.wgu.edu/admissions/transfers/transcript-request/transferable-certifications.html Best of luck with the program, I hope it's fun!
Sadly, you have to totally drop, complete courses, then transfer them back in. I don't believe you can transfer stuff in after you've already enrolled T_T
Really great stuff but have a question, do you think its possible to earn dual college degree from WGU such as Cybersecurity & Computer science because I see a lot of common classes for both?
Yeah I think so! I will make videos on these eventually, it's just SDC had an affiliate program so I did them first, haha. Thanks so much for coming to my stream :)
This is an alternative I believe. I think the point of WGU academy is to get people used to self-study and distance learning. If you bring credits from study.com, I think that requirement is satisfied (double-check with your enrollment counselor). Whether it's a "better" option, I'm not sure. I don't have much experience with WGU Academy :(, but I've definitely used study.com and straighterline for a few classes. GL with the enrollment :)
@@JoshMadakor thank you! one other question off topic i’m sorry but i want to be able to start my degree quick as possible but with academy have to pass one of the comptia certs which would u think would be quickest ? again sorry for off topic question
@@doomtrooper24 sorry I didn't see this, YT doesn't show me replies to comments, but a+ or security+ will be fastest, depending on which you find more interesting. For me, I really liked sec+, so I could do it in 3 weeks since I loved the material. Most ppl would say a+ is easier though 😊
@@JoshMadakor no worries at all! I still appreciate the response. I went ahead and went with the A+ because I know nothing about IT. thanks again Josh!
Does grades from study com matter? I did 5/5 on all the quizzes but get 65 on final exam which leaves my final grade at 72%. I would love to be at a B but if I need to finish fast and transfer to WGU does it really matter?
What’s up Josh! Question, I have a B.S in Exercise Science from Lehman College and I’m considering enrolling in WGU. Will my credits automatically transfer? Also do I only take Computer Sciences courses? Thank you for your services!

I'm already trying to enroll into WGU, should I still try to take the study.com classes and transfer them as i go or just tackle them with WGU once I start? I'm trying to start in April of 2022, currently it's February of 2022 and was wondering if I should try to tackle some of these now. Thanks hopefully someone can get to this before i enroll in classes Lol
The best thing about SDC is that the proctored exams aren't live, so you don't have to schedule. You can just do it whenever. As soon as you feel like it, you can just go on and do it.
is SDC easier/ shorter than just doing the classes at WGU? tough question to know for sure since I doubt many people have tried both but I'm curious...
Hello! Unfortunately you have to “drop out” and possibly do them and transfer them in. It’s probably gonna waste more time and money than it’s worth :( :(
Really invaluable stuff thanks! Didn’t know we could take classes online and use to transfer. I didn’t do too well in my younger years in college so this is really helpful. GE always ax requirement, but makes sense since we learn theory for a well rounded education.

I impish I knew about this at least a year ago and it took me 2 years because I went into 2 different bootcamps and quit and started again with a training website
Hey Nicky, I think study.com is only 199/mo if you want to get college credit. You don't have to pay more for the courses unless you plan to do more than 2 courses per month, then its $70 (I believe) per additional course. With the discount code, it should be around $140/mo, assuming the discount is 30%! Hope this helps

hey Josh do you register to WGU before starting the courses on the study website? or you do them before starting WGU? thank you for the videos!
Hey Cesar, you have to do the courses before enrolling in WGU. Once you start classes at WGU, you can't transfer any courses in :). I would recommend talking with an enrollment counselor first to get an idea for which courses you'll need to complete, then just complete the ones that you can from study.com!
@@JoshMadakor once you start at WGU you can't transfer more classes in ever? Or do you just have to wait until the second term starts?
@@JoshMadakor What do you mean by "finding out which courses you'll need to complete"? Don't you need to complete all of the courses required?
@@sgbskates I think it's ever --- EVER meaning, pertaining to the particular degree program you are working towards at the time.
I'm looking at this now: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SHtCCKJafxrTJiB-59s8GOAn2J4b1dqCDjm-iurA9oU/edit#gid=638724391
There are currently 22 transfers from study(.)com!
@@JoshMadakor Is the BS Cybersec spreadsheet up to date?
Besides Computer Science (Terrible at math), Which IT degree would you go for based on the best post salary/ pre degree cost ratio?
Probably Software Development, Cybersecurity, or Cloud. My anecdotal sense is that it's easier to make a lot of money faster with cloud (As a SaaS/Cloud Support Engineer). a LOT more goes into something like that than just degree, but if I were forced to answer, that's what I'd say :). Also the new cloud tracks are dope at WGU, I made a video about them recently :)
I've never heard of this before. I'm going to make sure that I check this out.
For sure! It's pretty good tbh.
Love the outpour of content Josh! Currently preparing to pre-game and planning for WGU CS degree.
Heck yeah! Congrats on that. I def don't regret getting the CS degree. It was tough, but I'm glad I did it. Good luck with it :)

Lmao. Thank you for noticing the thumbnail 😂
hi great content can u please make a similar google doc file with Sophia to WGU Equivalent courses? or how can one do this on their own?
Hey Saif! Go here: partners.wgu.edu/Pages/Partners.aspx
then scroll to the bottom left where it says, "Sophia Learning LLC". those are all the equivalent Sophia classes.
Check this out @11:04 of this video: ruclips.net/video/ZeejoMDjgb4/видео.html
I would recommend taking it outside of WGU if you can. Hope this helps! 😂

What really is the capstone? I was imagining it was some kind of full stack web application. Is that close enough?
Capstone for CS? It was solving some business problem using machine learning. not only you gotta write some program, you have to do a report and some docs. I DID end up doing a full stack web app though, hehe
@@JoshMadakor Thanks a lot.
WGU has grants and scholarships but I never see anyone discussing that in their videos when it comes to WGU...any tips or info on this would be extremely helpful I'm sure for many people...thanks
Hey, thanks! I haven't really looked into this too much, but I will probably look into this a bit more in the future and make a video on it :P
I feel very fortunate to have found your channel, I wish you a ton of success.
Hey O ram! Thank you very much! I really appreciate it! Best of luck to you as well :)
I feel you on the exams. Pretty troublesome and inconsistent hehe
Sounds good to me 30 to 40 as opposed to a couple months to complete a semester.
The Data Analytics would be great too, but probably not "as easy".
he actually has a video on the subject of question one
I'm just acknowledging the concern :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, and thanks for coming to the streams :)
It wasn't hard! WGU has a site for this: partners.wgu.edu/
Just look on the bottom right for "Study.com", then it shows all the different degrees/courses with the equivalent Study.com classes
@@JoshMadakor
Thanks for getting back to me, again!
It's not like it's a surprise since they have my application and resume?) lol
I understand on the discrimination part.
I’m soooo glad I ran into your channel. Insightful. Clear. And your energy is awesome! I appreciate you!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that :). Thanks for taking the time to comment too!
There's a section in there that looks promising:
Main Forum: www.degreeforum.net/mybb/
CLEP, DSST, UExcel, and TECEP Exam Discussion: www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Forum-CLEP-DSST-UExcel-and-TECEP-Exam-Discussion
hope this helps :o), if not, I'm so sorry lol
I’m trying to take Human Resources classes and it 107 test! How do you get though that in a timely manner?
In study.com, all the quizzes are really short, like 3-5 questions each if I recall. You also can retake them 3x and it will take your highest score. I just take them once, research the answers to learn it, then take it again and hope I get a higher score lol. Also, when you're looking at which classes from study.com match to WGU, often it will show MANY classes that match. It's not saying you have to do all of them, I believe it's just letting you know which classes at study.com satisfy the WGU class, so you can just choose one. I'd double-check, but I'm 99% certain this is the case. Hope it helps!

hey josh, thank you sooooo much for this!!! this may sound like a dumb question but looking at the transfer credit page on some of the courses is shows multiple classes you can take on like *((Accounting 101 (SDCM-0075), Accounting 201 (SDCM-0124), or Accounting 202 (SDCM-0152)) and ((Accounting 102 (SDCM-0076), Accounting 301 (SDCM-0077), or Accounting 303 (SDCM-0105)) for Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting. am i supposed to take just one class or multiple classes in order to get the transfer credit? sorry a little confused.
Hey Sergio! You only have to do one of the courses! The one with the * next to it is the "recommended" one. This is what WGU says, hidden at the bottom of the page: "*This course is recommended for transfer credit." Hope this helps! Not a dumb question at all!

Accounting is a special case, you'll need to take Accounting 101 & Accounting 201 & Accounting 301 to get Fundamentals of Financial & Managerial Accounting through WGU. Be sure to speak with your enrollment counselor, but this is what mine told me.

Nope! It’s just for study.com so any school is fine ^^

How many classes will transfer over? Is there a limit?
so i have to go through wgu academy (no college or IT) is this a better option ?
This is an alternative I believe. I think the point of WGU academy is to get people used to self-study and distance learning. If you bring credits from study.com, I think that requirement is satisfied (double-check with your enrollment counselor). Whether it's a "better" option, I'm not sure.
I want to do this as I self taught for web developer. I want to do the computer science tracl but I might just do the web development track because I suck at math. Me passing calculus is laughable. I'm 37 and have not taken a math course in 15 years. I would like to have a degree by 40. I gave up on college. I impish I knew about this at least a year ago and it took me 2 years because I went into 2 different bootcamps and quit and started again with a training website
Josh you are the GOAT!!!
Do your code still work?
It should :)
After you pay the subscription fee of $299, do you have to pay another fee for the course or that subscription covers everything?
Hey Nicky, I think study.com is only 199/mo if you want to get college credit. You don't have to pay more for the courses unless you plan to do more than 2 courses per month, then its $70 (I believe) per additional course. With the discount code, it should be around $140/mo, assuming the discount is 30%! Hope this helps
