Larroquette may pull off something unique - winning an Emmy for the same character 40 years later.
This show'd be nothing without Fielding.
Great thought and I really do agree
He has already said he will probably withdraw his name. He did on the original series after the 4 straight wins
@@charlesbaker1688 on the one hand, i kinda get it (both keeping with what he did back then and the perfect record), on the other, would be neat to see him win for both original and reboot (then after that, pull out. at least this way, he'd have something almost no one or maybe even no one has to their name).
What's neat about Dan is he went from a selfish hedonistic jerk to an introspective elder. Great character arc.
As much as I remember John Larroquette's comedic chops from the original series, it's been his acting during the more serious, more intimate moments that has really struck me. He really makes the show.
When Abby says that her Dad was "Holding onto faith until she had some in herself", I totally heard that in Harry Anderson's voice. As a huge fan of the original NC. this line is spot on for something Harry Stone would have said.
I'm right there with you, it's like Harry never left in that moment.
Exactly. Well said. I heard it in Harry’s voice, too.
"I totally hear that in Harry Anderson's voice". No you didn't.
Crazy, it did that for me too. So many reboots and retreads aim for similar moments but never pull it off.
She said it with his inflection. Was a wonderful moment.
I loved this scene. When she breaks down crying and then he tells her that the last thing Harry would be is disappointed. I felt that so much.
John Larroquette is the glue that holds this show together.
He is exceptional in anything he is in. I have been enjoying rewatching his series “The John Larroquette show” on a local channel. I had forgotten how funny it was. I also really enjoyed on The Librarians.
And he, Harry Anderson and Richard Moll were the glue in the original show.
It's a look at Dan years later, how he changed. Going from assistant District Attorney to public defender (a more empathetic role), Christine's position. He humped everything in a skirt, now he's disgusted by sex themed pastries. A person that I would really love to see make a guest appearance is Roz.
@@hdjksa52 that would be awesome! Sad so many of the original cast are gone.
@@kellidinit3725 they should bring back Bob Wheeler, Brent Spiner’s still acting!
It’s not groundbreaking television by any means, but it has heart. I love the wistfulness John has when Dan talks about his wife. It speaks volumes; it tells you how much he loved her and misses her without him having to come out and say “I loved her and miss her very much.” That’s rare in sitcoms today; and it shows the creators respect their audience. It also shows that while he’s still the same old Dan Fielding, he’s also grown a lot as a person in the last 30 years.
That's rare in any genre nowadays. Almost everything is "tell instead of show" now. I've even seen shows and movies that overdo and show THEN tell. Too much spoon-feeding the audience.
As a continuity nut, I was only slightly miffed that apparently Dan *didn't* end up with Christine (who also hasn't even been name-dropped yet, grrr); given that his wife is no longer with him, they could have just said that was her! But honestly, they're doing so much right with him, it doesn't really bug me. If anything, I'm starting to wonder if Dan is really the protagonist, despite Abby clearly being set up as this!
funny, today everyone wants to be edgy to stand out with so much competition. Now being normal and traditional stands out. Hollywood should concentrate on telling good stories and not try so hard to stand out. Good television or movies will always stand out from the rest.
@@angelrivera2339 Yeah. Everything has to be ironic. Every character has to be snarky. Every bit of dialogue has to be sarcastic and passive-aggressive. Nothing is sincere anymore.
Going from recovering alcoholic to attorney to judge seems like quite the mountain to climb, and even if following in Harry Stone's footsteps was motivation for her, that's an amazing backstory. I'd like to see what cast and crew do with this detail.
Also reminds me of when Dan gave Harry a swift kick in the pants when he was ready to give up. Dan was a sleazeball and a doofus, but he was a true friend if you need one.
Yup
Half of attorneys are alcoholics and the judges aren't much better. This isn't much of a mountain in the legal world.
I know a woman who did exactly that, my sister's friend. She lost her brother due to a car crash when she was in her mid20s. She started drinking heavier and heavier, dropped out of law school, had some sorta life-altering 'awakening' 6-7yrs later, went back to school and is now a Judge.
Would love to see Brent spinner make an appearance on the new night court 🤞
I remember that scene. It was a good scene. Dan telling Harry how good, compassionate, caring, never took sides, impartial and fair he was.
It took alot for Dan to give Harry a verbal kick in the pants to help pull Harry out of the funk he put himself in. And now doing the same for Abby is remarkable. This is not the same Dan Fielding from the OG show. He's changed alot thanks to Sarah.
I started watching the new night court because of “Dan Fielding”, I keep watching it because it has a lot of potential.
As a Gen X kid I was a bit leery they were trying to revive a classic. This show is really good. I captures the aura of the original for sure. I RARELY laugh aloud at new sitcoms but this one get me quite often
John Larroquette is a damn fine actor.
This was the best scene of the series so far by far, the relationship between these two is really interesting, if hard to classify. Her performance was incredible.
I agree that the chemistry between John and Melissa really sell those scenes. It’s not quite the gag fest that the original was, but it has its own charms that help sell it!
I'm an 80s kid and so far its 8.5/10. Not seeing Dan prosecuting isn't easy but John hasn't lost his touch. I know it has to be harder on Dan to talk of or about Harry at times even it's Abbys dad. Just seeing Bull and Roz as a cameo would be perfect.
I want to see Dan defend the Wheelers for a change. Bring back Brent Spiner to reprise that role.
It's not just weird seeing him prosecute but hearing him use the same kind of arguments Christine used to. He's embraced the optimism that he used to mock
It’s a shame Sean Astin is no longer with us. Having “Grandpa” come into court would be fun.
@@robertbusek30 John Astin. Sean is son.
@@sd-py1xb Arrrg! Thanks for the correction!
I think they’re doing great. This FELT like Night Court.
Does it? I think it's lacking in the excessive zaniness of the original series.
@@alecaquino4306 Agreed but it's only the first few episodes of the first season. From what I remember the original didn't really find its feet until about season 4.
@@alecaquino4306 An arsonist plotted revenge on Dan by seducing him and robbing him. Pretty Zany.
@@alecaquino4306 It doesn't.
How much did they pay you to say that? Because you're still getting ripped off.
Dan always had a good heart buried deep inside, that he’d show every once in a while. I’m glad he found someone who let him quit hiding it. But there’s still enough snark there, that it’s obviously Dan
This speaks not only about the character's relationship with her dad, but also the expectations of the original NC viewers expecting big things from the new show and new cast. I believe they can be as great or even better. Just do your thing!
Wow, I got teary eyed.....feeling the connection to the previous NC
I like that Dan Fielding is more mature and older plus wiser. He isn’t the lecherous con man in the old show but someone who needed to be humbled by life to be the better man we knew he deep down inside was.
Funny, but I hate that very thing. It's like watching Al Bundy be respectable.
That's what made Dan, Dan. If you didn't like that you didn't like the show. I'm good with where Dan is in life now because eventually most people mature as they grow older, so the premise of actually seeing both sides of Dan over 40 years works. Just don't chastise the old Dan. That's part of Night Court.
I never missed an episode of Night Court back in the day. It was one of my favorite shows. Funny and cleverly written. I streamed the first 4 episodes last night. It's okay and mostly a nostalgia feel to it. I do have one question for the producers: Will Brent Spiner be coming back to reprise his role as Bob Wheeler? It would be interesting to see Dan defending the Wheelers this time around.
Brent wants to do it, but he has too many scheduling conflicts right now.
@@chriskay1449 Let's hope the show lasts long enough for him to be able to schedule the appearance.
You know how many times that question has been asked.
John Larroquette still has it. Even though they mellowed his character as Dan, he can still pull it off. Plus, he can now open boxes.
We love u Harry stone and miss Sullivan respect amen.
I was expecting Dan to be judge by this time. He deserves it.
It's a funny show on its own, but it's moments like this when the sleaziest character in TV history shows humanity that puts it on that next level.
Knowing that about him maybe makes sense that he wouldn't even blink or hesitate on the "erotic snacks", haha!
When I heard the show was coming back and he was on it, I figured they wouldn't have him be his old sleazy self, given today's political climate...but this actually does work, as older, married Dan would necessarily have developed in new directions...
BTW, "sleaziest character in TV history"? Barney and Quagmire would like to challenge that...!
Laroquette has always been a personal favorite actor of mine. I love his delivery.
His delivery is great. He draws me in and holds my attention.
I'm so happy this show is back on! I loved the original and I'm sad to see so many of the original cast passed away and glad John Laroquette agreed to come back. This was a very heartwarming moment between Abby and Dan. This show makes you feel good for "Just Being You" and seeing other people talk and get to know one another and be kind. 👍💯
the ending of this scene, where Dan opens the box, I felt would have been funnier if he recognized the bakery from his last go-round in the courthouse since he used to be 'that guy'
This scene is so beautiful!
Pool hall speech version 2. I love the similarities between how Dan helped Harry and Abby. Without saying it, he showed he had faith in her too. Whenever I feel like I failed, I honestly watch this clip. It helps me remember that I’m prone to make mistakes. What a great scene.
Keep your head up.
Sadness and deep emotional trauma are exactly what I'm looking for in my reboot of Night Court!
haha 😅
This is a very sweet moment between Abby and Fielding right here! I love it!
So, I've watched three episodes so far and I have to say, I love the show. The writing is good and I love the characters. It's rare for me to find a comedy where all the lead characters are funny, but in this case, Night Court delivers. John Larroquette is hilarious (again) as the notorious Dan Fielding. Melissa Rauch reminds me of Anna Faris, same comedic energy and timing - brilliant, in other words. To me, this show is a winner. I'd love to see what's next for the new Night Court crew.
And it is not just stupid comedy, they go for more than that here.
This is the reboot everyone needed.
We missed the armadillo.
BTW, the cast is amazing!
No, no it isn't.
It's so great watching a character like Dan fielding grow and change. Just the clips of this show hit ya right in the feelz. Hopefully NBC can keep this show going in a way that honors the fun and heart that made the original such a classic.
This scene made me emotional
I laughed out loud more then once these past few episodes!!!.I'm glad John agreed to be a part of this re-boot!!.Bravo...
I want to see Brent Spiner return in the role he played in the original series.
I think people would love a Bob Wheeler moment. The comedic timing of his appearances in night court was so spot on.
An absolute must.
AGREED! In fact, this was my 'very first' thought/comment when I heard the show was returning.
I agree. Seeing Dan defending the Wheelers this time around would be hilarious.
That crazy Yugoslavian.
Laroquette is wildly underrated
Um..he won Emmy after Emmmy until HE said "no más".
How is that underrated?
@@gerardomalazdrewicz7514 ask a hundred people the top 100 actors. He wont be mentioned once.
This scene is much more touching than it would be on a completely new sitcom because we know Harry.
It's great that Harry's mentioned in the show.
Abby says what most of us feel that we feel like we failed our parents in our early days but that doesn't mean we don't stop trying to do the best we can. As we age we learn more about ourselves just like Abby.
Really enjoying this show! Larroquette is still the best comedy actor on TV!!
What comes through now is what came through in first run: these actors love the characters they portray!
Dan is a lout, but he was focused and dedicated when it came to his work.
He doesn't really care which 'side of the aisle', he gave it his all when it mattered.
Present day Dan Fielding isn't 'the Grinch' who had his heart grow three sizes in one day; he always had a huge heart, carefully locked away.
Being a lout was his 'armor'.
OK I just watched two more episodes and it’s growing on me.
I'm just so happy I live in a lifetime where I get to watch night court twice
I am so happy to see Dan revive his role for us again. This short video is all Dan, especially the food part. 😊 Melissa is a wonderful addition to the cast, looking forward to seeing this show take off.
I haven't seen the full shows, just clips here and there and I kind of get the feeling that the producers are kind of aiming that although Abby is Dan's boss, Dan feels like he owes it to Harry to watch over his daughter and protect her, as if she were his own daughter.
Also, it's so nice to hear Melissa's regular voice instead of her high pitched annoying Bernadette voice from BBT.
Some of the reviews in the journals and Publications by Scholars and analysts have been measured or negative. I'm sorry, but I love this show and I love these characters and I'm just Overjoyed with a new Night Court. It's wise and sensitive and sweet and reverent to the past in great ways. In a word, this show makes me happy.
This is a pretty good sequel series to the original t.v. series-" Night Court."
They have great chemistry.
I wonder if John Larroquette will win any Emmy's for his return as Dan Fielding. He won four in a row for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy series, during the original show's run. From 1985 to 1988.
Probably would've won more except he took his name out of the running because he kept beating everyone.
The only other time I can remember an actor winning Emmys for both the show's original run and the revival was Peter Falk for Columbo. He won a couple of times in the 70s during the show's original run, then he won again after the show was revived in the late 80s after having been off the air for a decade.
In addition to being The Most Beautiful Woman In The World, Melissa is just a *damned* fine actor... first-class.
And John Larroquette -- even without a paddle -- has not lost a step either.
Dan Fielding still the best character of Night Court
I remember watching the OG Night Court years back. I realize Dan is many years older, but his "sleazeball" character always made me laugh. I haven't seen the new one, just clips here, and I'm not sure if the character arc fits him just yet. Guess I'd have to watch more to see for myself.
Tonight's episode Dan was back to dating. ;D
I loved the pompous, arrogant, sleazy Dan..... and I love the more mature Dan today. Just like in real life, people mature and grow up. It's a bit undignified and really immature to see a 60+ year old man talking his thoughts about a pretty lady walking by outloud thinking no one hears him lol
Dan is like a secondary father figure to Abby
Kind of reared up a bit hearing Dan talk about Harry. I wish I had cable so I could watch this, I may have to get Peacock!
I have always liked Melissa Rauch and her abilities as an actress. This scene shows how powerful she can be. I hope this series succeeds.
This is my favourite moment from the show so far
Wow the show must suck
@@selfiekroos1777 it only just started! which is why I said "so far"!

Im very stoic in my age, but watching this w/ my 21 yr old college daughter... i cried. She also has a "green" drug addiction, and its gotten her into trouble... you always have to stand by your family and support them no matter what.
Great episode
Well we now know for certain that Dan and Christine didn't end up together.
There is so much emotion and serious conversation in what is suppose to be a comedy. Well done. Well done.
They took a page from M*A*S*H, who mastered the craft a little earlier.
I miss Harry. Hands up if you miss him!
Abby is a great character.
The show has potential. Give it time.
I agree... but will the networks? They have such an instant gratification model/metric nowadays. Sure, the networks had a ratings fetish in the 1980s for which the original Harry Stone judge series had to abide. But that was merely child's play when compared to today. We have two great actors here; give 'em a chance to develop their own rhythm and rapport like Judge Harry and Prosecutor Dan. Let's see where this goes. We can only hope, right?! 😇🙏👍
Love John!!!
Dan Fielding, giving serious life lessons to the Stone family since the 80s ✌️
Not the first clip to make me laugh. I also know of few shows that fired on all cylinders in its early episodes. I’m rooting for this.
Dan is still that sarcastic individual from the original run, but he has gained a new perspective over the years. The way he talks about his late wife shows it. Sarah took a womanizing sleazebag and shaped him into an insightful person who can share needed wisdom. It's tough at the beginning for a widow or widower to press forward after a spouse passes away. Some don't sadly. My dad is one of those who does press forward. After my mom died, it took him a while(a few years) to go up to places where she needed treatment. The pain is always there, but how one lives with it varies from person to person.
This was one of the few moments that actually felt like the original
I gotta see this now. It feels like the original all over again
I got hope 4 the show.👍👍👍👍
Fielding always carried the weight of a certain amount of the moral core of the original show. It was what made his character so interesting. He was (as Larroquette said) the "creme de la scum", but he was serious about his profession and as loyal to Harry as Bull was. I think part of the contemporary Dan Fielding is that he used to be the balance for Harry and Christine. With them gone, he has to do their part as well. It was important that he entered the new show as a lawyer who moonlights as a process-server so that he can secretly act as a do-gooder.
So I assume that Christine isn't the Mom. But she totally looks like she could be Harry and Christine's child. I can see resemblance to both Harry Anderson and Markie Post in this actress.
Dan Fielding seemed, to me, to be the epitome of "chauvinistic jerk" in the 1980s, but with this reboot he's exhibiting amazing compassion and tenderness. It's sort of amazing.
Is it funny?
The writers seem to have grasped the pacing of the original show. You always had these slower heartfelt moments punctuated by jokes like at the end here.
So hard to watch when you realise John Larroquette is one of the last of the original cast still alive...really hope Bull or Roz make a cameo
Really good show here! 👍
If I was a casting director, my first call would be to John on every single show I worked on.
Viewers may have been wary of a sequel series when it was announced but it found its footing.
A few years ago Law & order gave us Peter Stone, son of Ben Stone. Now they do it again with Abby Stone, the daughter of Harry Stone... it would have been interesting had Night Court crossed over with that franchise at some point, even if the two Stone families aren't related.
Miss Bull.... he was so funny
I didn't watch the original NIGHT COURT on a regular basis, but I don't remember Harry ever mentioning that he had a daughter. Still, if that scene is any indication, the new series has potential!
Dan Fielding this is your last warning. If you don’t let the judge handle her job you’ll be in contempt of court yet again.
She was born after the show ended. I thought he ended up with Christine the public defender but I could be wrong.
They broke up in season 9. Show ended with Dan chasing Christine.

Love this reboot. One that’s actually. Good along with Fraiser
The original series had some character-revealing moments that made the realities of human failings palpable
while reminding us that we need to forgive good people who can't always win against their faults.
It looks like that aspect has been included in the new series, which just might make it something great, too.
I hope they bring back Bob and June Wheeler.

Wow
This one scene is better than 99% of the other crap on TV put together.
Keep up the good work! So glad “Night Court” is back! ❤️
I wish I could watch this, but it feels too emotional! Flashback of my childhood ! Then you realize Harry and Markie are gone. It's just too much.
Her voice is very different from TBBT!
I think in TBBT she was imitating Carol Ann Susi aka Mrs. Wolowitz.
The best part of this episode is, at the end, everybody got together to have blurry cupcakes. 😊
Liked the original, but couldn't make it through one episode of this.
In the 80's I like the fact that Night Court was supposed to be happening at night because it was night where I'm from 😊
John Larroquette is a friend of Bill W. So appropriate subject matter here.
