Editor Thread had some fun in this one 😄 Just in case you ever come across a viaduct without a forge: The iron cage walls in viaducts are surprisingly easy to break. I gave it a shot with a level 1 bronze axe, and those iron cage wall segments took between 3 and 15 hits to break. 1:45:40 Sick of us 😲 That’s pun-ishingly harsh! What did we do to deserve this 😭 2:02:04 Thread stopping to smell the flowers in a speedrun ❤ 4:24:40 The Queen's head you disrespectfully tossed aside suddenly speaking up and threatening Odin was absolutely hilarious. But she was exceptionally cooperative during the fight, making it one of the quickest fights against her you ever had. 5:23:20 - 5:26:49 That is some of the most eloquent and insightful commentary you’ve ever delivered. 6:45:45 “We found our way from the dudes to the next set of dudes!” is by far THE best summary of the Ashlands experience I have heard 🤣 6:41:15 and 7:07:35 You didn’t need workbenches inside the keeps, the workbench outside seemed to reach far enough to cover the inside. Also, if you are short on wood, reclaiming wood from the workbench of abandoned portals may be an option. 7:43:30 Who needs trolls for farming when you can have this instead? That door ratio 😮 I’m really disappointed. For the post-game, it might be a good idea to check all the boxes to see what you have left/what you could have used. EDITED TO ADD: /what you collected too much of.
I usually don't watch too much of the runs back but found myself just kinda watching a bunch of this one in the editor so, yeah, Editor Thread had some fun! :D Great compilation here! Thanks! Arrrggghhh the door close ratio, I knowwwwwwwww D': hahahaha
Watched both parts, I really enjoyed the commentary along the way, speaking your thoughts even if in short phrases like ", yes". Will check out your newer runs too
Amazing work! Even though we knew it was going to be sub 15h, I was still on the edge of my seat for the Fader fight! Wild recovery. Nice job, can't wait for the next upload ❤
I'm very glad to see Editor Thread make an appearance. He’s as funny as ever. 😂 You should do this more, I think they call it “name it and claim it” 1:00:15. 2:12:30-2:13:50 Let me explain what happened here in case you aren’t sure. You seem to have become me for a few moments. Fortunately, it only lasted 1.5 minutes and you recovered quickly. That definitely would have killed the run. You had some crazy “WHAT???” moments and a lot that made me laugh as usual. Such great luck on this run, it’s hard to say what slowed you down. The copper mining? The soft tissue? Maybe a bunch of little things…I still believe you can shave off some time. Even just in the last fight, which didn’t go exactly as planned. Incredible recovery and ability to still get an excellent time - I’m impressed. You kinda said it yourself: 5:31:40 🙂
Yeah, haha, if I find myself just watching the runs back it's nice to get Editor Thread involved! :D I think I would have been faster without the copper situation but as it stood I wrapped up bronze around the same time I have been, but then I had wild luck after that, that I would hope would translate to to being ready for the ashes before hour 12. It's cool, we agane!
Thought I had while you were crossbowing a ballista: given you have a stone cutter and a demolisher and a toooon of black marble, could you build a tiny perch beneath the ballista and just smash it a few times with the sledge? I can think of ways to optimize the perch (assuming it's even feasible to build it lol), but thats a detail. The black marble would take a lot more hits than just wood and you can portal with it easily enough and absolutely abandon it without a thought. Saves on wood and bolts! Counter: you'd be more likely to aggro the creeps inside. Counter-counter: you'd probably smash them! Great run!! I look forward to your set-seed runs as I really think you'll be able to optimize your resources and time a lot! Please bring us along, even if it's not a winner 😊
To get into that area beneath the Queen structure, there is a wooden wall on the left side of the stairs as you start going up them. There is enough space in there for crafting and portal.
Great run! Part1 was just crazy good, Almost seemed scripted at some points 😄Can't wait for the sub 14:30, seems very doable soon! I'm pretty sure you can get into Ashlands with a karve/longship but i assume you need full wind in the sails. I have no idea how viable that would be but it is something to consider. There is not probably not much viability in doing it before Moder other than to get a stone portal (if you are semi lucky). Doing it after Moder opens up melting flametal and you could potentially actually use her power for the trip down. But then again you need to do mistlanding before you can actually use the flametal. I dunno it's a silly idea but there may be something to it even just for the portal. If only we could get the catapult and feather cloak early, that would open up some hilarious speedrunning shenanigans 😉
Thanks! They're too fast and cheap to ignore in the speedrun XD They definitely took some getting used to on my end at first but now it's almost impossible for me to put them down!
I played a seed where I found the boss alter every time I stepped foot in a new biome except black forest back when yag was last boss. And it still took me 4x as long as this run lol
@threadmenace ive been running around in the ashlands and i found myself struggling to get around without getting jumped by 10 15 20 skelebros. So i did a little testing and i found out that a really good way to get around was to just drop a log chair in a morgon cave, pop through the wall then use the feather cape and fly across the ashlands. not sure if you can use that or not, but it helped me out a bit.
Awesome run, Thread! How you stay cool and manage the chaos of ashlands never ceases to amaze me. Apologies if this is too presumptuous and "armchair gaming" but you seem to be doing these runs purely from memory, right? If so, would it perhaps make sense to have a written conspectus of a run, outlining all landmarks, absolutely required resources, departure checklists, along with "contingency" plans and pivots/sequence breaks for when things not go to plan? Like, say, when swamp is crap and you decide to skip it, but it has consequences in terms of iron, but maybe that means you can pivot somewhere else to need less of it, sort of stuff. Why I'm saying this is, I can't help but notice that you lose a lot of time on things like "do I have enough X?", "I should be growing onions", "why am I sailing with all this iron?" along with unnecessary portal travels, backtracking etc. And by "a lot", I mean, all these things are seconds here, minutes there, but it all adds up. I feel like this very run could shave off maybe an hour on pure optimizations like these. I'm sure you have the "perfect run" memorized well, but when the random nature of NGRS distorts the run, it seems to throw you off. But feel free to disregard if I have no idea what I'm talking about. :D Stay awesome!
Thanks! Eh, I'm drilling little things into my head through repetition. There's no way I could ever say or write everything down that goes through my head as I'm constantly weighing a ton of variables live that are specific to each individual run. Even if having this document caused zero of these mistakes to happen, which I definitely do not believe would be the case, I feel like all of them would just be replaced with "Hold on, I'm attempting to go somewhere. Let me pause the game and consult THE DOCUMENT. OK, chapter 3, paragraph 4, subsection VI, let's seeeeee: don't bring any iron, duh!"
nice run! Have you ever thought of building a low "ceiling" in front of the chest/workstation you spend downtime in front of? It's virtually costless and lets you dump stam for jump levels as you're taking care of your business. Not sure it would add much time to the run at all while probably getting you some value with those higher level jumps. Not gonna cut 3 hours off the run but might give somewhat of an edge compared to not doing it. The first 40 levels go so fast like this they are basically free.
3:26:44 I think boss locations being far isn’t helping. Planting onions and not keeping some to use for extra stam. Maybe more stam food. Idk.🤷 30 onions for stam. Onion/cloud/seeker
Welllllll, you need 10 withered bone so you gotta spend some amount of time in the swamp but I think not overextending initially and hoping to find a viaduct is where i'm at, currently. Gonna try to eliminate a bunch of swamp time from how I have been doing things for a while
Is it always worth speaking to Hildir when you reveal her location on the map? I feel like it is since you get to see where certain biomes are on the map, when she gives you quests. Is this too marginal of a reason?
Editor Thread had some fun in this one 😄

Thank you, Mechanicus!!!
