- Thank you to everyone who watched the first video and provided feedback-it's greatly appreciated. I’ve been bow hunting for the past 12 years and haven't used my rifles much lately. To improve accuracy on speeds, I borrowed a different chronograph for more precise readings.
I've re-chrono'd the Hornady ELD-X, and while there's a significant difference, it’s still not quite where we need it to be.
Next, I tested the Federal Premium ELD-X. Out of the two options, I’ll be deciding which one to use for my 2024 hunts. Stay tuned!

Great video, how much velocity were you losing with the Shorter barrel?
@@outdoorswithroostercurrie6984 so the plan for the shortened barrel was to get a can for it in the future so that’s why I went shorter. I’m loosing right around 200fps I would say on factory loads I’m cooking up a hand load that I will be testing here soon. Weather here is crap so I want to have some good video to share so stay tuned..
Good stuff. The elk is a real perk. If they only knew.
@@guardianminifarm8005 lol
My Ruger American gen 1, 7 PRC 24” barrel last weekend on a 95* day was shooting 2896fps with the Hornady ELDX, Seekins PH2 26” was doing it at 2968fps. Good to see accurate data what a 20” barrel will push. Thanks!
@@IR8GRANDSRT8 I’m trying to see if a factory load will get me those numbers as well. So I’ll keep testing to find out but thinking a hand load is going to be the ticket. But stay tuned for more. Hope you liked what you say and subscribe for more have a great day and thank you for watching.
Norma makes 7PRC now with their 165 Bondstrike
@@Accuracy1st looks like I have more rounds to test!!
@@ridgelinehunting You are limited to 2 boxes on midway
I would like to see norma 165s over the Chrono.....
I like these rifles shame they dont come 24"
I’m sure if they do a new go wild it will. They have the predator now as well with a 22” barrel.
Alot of suppressor guys are wanting shorter barrels.
@ that was my plan as well
@hunternichols5597 they do just not for Ruger the Ruger American predator comes in a 22” barrel it was not out yet when I picked this up.
I love Hornady accuracy. I hate the fact they over estimate the speeds.
Yes I agree
@@Meh-hr7gq I thought on this video I did much better the first was was a nightmare hahaha
Lower your scope and rest your head better on the stock to follow through with your shots can help you. We all shoot different but it helps.
@@peteparham3239 I would need a new rail to lower it I want to say the rings on it are low rings but next year I’ll have some new stuff going for the rifle.
What's the barrel length? More curious on group sizes and standard deviation on fps. Make that tool a consistent hammer!
@@robcraig3300 20 so short barrel I’ll get some grouping video in when I find the speeds I’m looking for..
I have the exact same rifle, but I do not own a chronograph. Should I expect the same velocities with the same ammo? Or do velocities depend rifle to rifle, kinda like how every rifle "likes" different ammo.
I have been using Hornady precision hunter, but after watching your video I'm thinking I will do Federal!
@@Justaguyontheinternet5097 when the barrel has about 200 rounds out of it it might go up in velocity. But I would say it will be around the same but I am finding more 7prc rounds so stay tuned for more.
Any group test yeah I just bought one and I’m wondering what ammo works best.
@@jarrettmoore5743 not on video they both group up really well I would say the federal was the best so far. The group was key holes with the federal the Hornady ELDX would always have 1 flyer in a 3 shot group but it could have been me also. I would just go and see what groups best for you I’m not the best shooter. But all my groups nothing was over an inch apart.
Thanks for keeping this going do you plan on doing a hand load in the future?
@@northwestrushoutdoors yes that is the plan just get some stuff to make it happen.
@@ridgelinehunting Just don't waste time using Hornady brass for your hand loads. It's garbage. Get Peterson or ADG brass for premium or use the Federal
@@Accuracy1st thanks for the info can I find that at midway or do you have a link?
@@Accuracy1st thanks for the info can I find that at midway or do you have a link?
@@ridgelinehunting RUclips does not allow anyone but the person who posted the video to add links in the comments section. Just search ADG brass or Peterson brass. Many merchants sell ADG but try graf and sons for peterson. That's where I get mine. I buy direct from ADG because they are on my way to Alabama to see my dad so I just stop by there
Disappointing speed
Yeah not what I won’t but getting better. We have some more rounds to test so stay tuned
@@eskimoreloader most likely going to be hand loading for the 7prc
Yeah no point in lifting your head. You can only see the impact through the scope! 🤣
lol yeah I had no clue I was doing that tell I was editing its bean a long time since I shot so I was lifting for sure lol
I thought in this video I did much better
Elk on a rifle range = Wapiti flex ;-)
