Unfortunately, this trip didn’t go as planned. I didn’t see a single deer, but I stayed the course, determined to make it work. Despite my efforts, I had no luck. @@northwestrushoutdoors lol yeah good dude
30.06 or 35 Whelen beats those numbers....
I’m sure it will not with a 20” barrel
This 7prc with a 24” barrel will hit the 3000 number no problem but I got the shorter barrel for adding a can.
@@ridgelinehunting point is why not run a standard caliber ? 7 PRC is no better than many others with a short barrel, does nothing better at those velocities except costs more to shoot....
@ you might be surprised...
@@lrlapua8035 yeah you can get away with something better that’s for sure but that’s not why I got it.
I had a chrono like that for about 3 days. Total junk. Upgrade!
@@shanewinters3009 the Garmin is way better keep watching.
2400fps is abominable 😑 holy shiiiiiiiet!
Don’t think there was a shot at 2400
It was my chronograph
If you keep watching I get a new chronograph and shoot again.
From what I have learned if you’re not going to hand load don’t get a short barrel. 😂
really enjoyed watching the hunt cheers!
Thank you hope next time we can show a elk down and tag filled..
I hit that sub button. Will check out more of your videos. 😀
Thank you so much yeah we hunt the jungle of the PNW it’s thick.
I Sub’d as well
@ Thanks! 😀
Definitely different elk hunting than I’m use to here in AZ. Thanks for sharing your hunt!
Thank you for watching and yes little different up here in the PNW..
That Ruger American Gen 2 is listed as having a 20" barrel, but it is actually shorter than that as they include the MB in the measurement. 7 PRC just doesn't make sense in a barrel that short as its giving up too much velocity. Honestly, I would rather have a 7mm-08 in a true 20" or 22" barrel. The cartrdge performs well at those lengths, uses far less powder, has substantially less recoil, considerably less expensive, and will beat the velocities you are seeing out of that 18.750" barrel.
@@jeffbaker5038 yep but I didn’t buy it for that.. it will still have what I need just wanted to get the numbers out there..
@@jeffbaker5038 thanks for the comment but we will see what I can get made up. The recoil was not to bad.
@@ridgelinehunting whenever I consider recoil, I always think no brake no suppressor, for worst case scenario. In my case, I have pretty severe neck issues that I have recently learned are ill affected by high recoil. I am not recoil sensitive, and have owned several magnums in the past, but higher recoil now makes my neck hurt. I have had to change my thinking to most performance with least recoil. The 7mm-08 shines in this arena, and it is plenty at the ranges I'm willing to shoot at an animal. Deer sized game 400 and under, I'll use my 6mm ARC.
@ yeah and that’s understand for sure well good luck and I’ll have more data on the Ruger here soon but yes if you looking for that high speeds don’t buy this rifle at all they do have a predator model with a 22” barrel now, they didn’t have it when I got this one.
Sclogsdon1 is right. Hornady did a horrible job of not telling anyone the had trouble getting Reloader 22. They are using different powers “for accuracy”(possibly H1000)was their justification until they can get Reloader 22 back. Federal as a bigger company and still had Reloader 22 available. That’s why you are getting better speeds from Federal. Plus, I can’t understand why Ruger drop the barrel length 2 inches from the 22 inch Go Wild. Pretty dumb move for this caliber. It needs barrel to get velocities.
Yeah I’m not sure but I still like the rifle it’s accurate.
Nice video but those velocities suck! I have Win 70s in .30-06, .300 Win Mag, and 7mm Mag - my .30-06 gets is a bit over 1 MOA and the others are even less accurate ('06 has a Vortex PST II and the others have crappy scopes so that is a factor). My Bergara 6.5 Creed is sub 1/2 MOA. Not sure how much I trust your chrono.
It’s a 20inch barrel and a Garmin chrono it’s the powders in Hornady at the time.
@@accur81 we will see what I can do with some hand loads here soon..

I’m sure if they do a new go wild it will. They have the predator now as well with a 22” barrel.
Alot of suppressor guys are wanting shorter barrels.

Need to handload. I’m running 175’s @2835fps in an 18” 7prc. My 22” with the same load is 2980fps. Barrel length is not an issue.
I will get there I have all the composites to do it just need the time.
My Waypoint 2020 7mm PRC 24” is getting 2860 with the 175 ELD X…5 shot groups are .573”.
Yeah that’s the difference 24vs20 yeah my groups are sub moa groups are fine.
25fps per inch, that's a fair exchange
@ it’s closer to 50 but yes it’s not bad for what I got the rifle for and that’s the back country and it’s thick here on the westside of Washington.
Recoil doesn't seem to shabby. Is that barrel a 20"
Yes 20” barrel recoil is not that bad at all.

@@davidlantz4560 no if you go 24-26” barrel you will be fine with the speeds..
If you're only getting 2600fps out of a PRC, you have issues somewhere. And shouldn't even be a consideration. You can get those numbers with a 7-08 The Hornady factory ammo is trash and so is the eldx for hunting, it's a terrible bullet. Any 20" PRC should be 2800+ with that factory eldx crap
@@hedgeapplehomestead2816 it was the powder from the round if you keep watching. And I was hitting 2800 with the federal (not on this video)
20" is nice for what its intended for, just pick the right bullet. You may have to drop bullet weight, 180gr for a 7mm is heavy, specially if your using lead free bullets. Try running a 150gr or 160gr, you won't lose that much energy.
@@jeff9062 that’s next for sure thanks for the comment
@ridgelinehunting you will lose BC though with copper bullet, food for thought,
The 7mm PRC was designed to run heavy for caliber bullets. Most are shooting 175 and 180s with favtory ammo and even up into the 190s with hand loads. This isn't a 7 rem mag he's shooting. It definitely isn't a round built around a short barrel. Test barrels are 24" and they perform best out of a 26" barrel.
@ yep..
Yep.. if you want speed in a 20" barrel you need to swap out the 7 PRC for a 7mm BC😅
Looks like it right hahaha oh well
The Rugers definitely shoot straight but giving up barrel length for magnum cartridges is a head-scratcher to me.
@@BZE_Fishin it was more of this is going into the back country in the PNW woods so I was thinking the shorter barrel would be nice when hiking into the woods with the rifle in the pack to keep it from getting snagged on stuff but really should have gone for 24” barrel..
@ …that was kind of my point. I wouldn’t get too caught up on speed. Handloading will surely give you a bit more but, the PRC will shoot true and carry a punch within reasonable distance. If the 7MM Backcountry proves out then you’ll have the short barrel and hot-rod speeds you are looking for…time will tell.
They need the option for a longer barrel. However, unless someone is shooting elk at 400 yards a 20in will be more than enough velocity to take medium-large sized game in the U.S.. I shoot a lot of long range and don’t think that 90% of hunters are capable of shooting a 1MOA 5 shot group at 100yards. They definitely aren’t capable of hitting any sized target at 500 either. So therefore a 20in is fine for most guys. Now I doubt you’re one of those guys if you care about barrel length which means you’ll likely agree with me haha
@ the have the predator model now that is 22” but that was not an option when I got this one.
This is 7mm08+p at best. Hornady should be embarrassed. They know we are almost all chronographing our ammo and firearms now. The days of advertising inflated numbers should be over. 6" of barrel loss with magnum powders might be 150 fps to 180 fps but certainly not more than 300 fps. I like Hornady and I have for over 40 years. This is simply unacceptable for any and all manufacturers. I am certain you will get much better results from handloads.
Yeah I’ll be starting here soon hope to have a video up here in the next couple months. Also thank you for the great comment need more like this one..
Ever hear of follow through? Your head is coming off that stock as soon as you pull the trigger
I am aware of follow through and I will work on it, thanks for the comment.
Haven’t shot a rifle in a bit been bow hunting the past 12 years..
If you keep watching I bring that up as well so thanks
i dont think you loose 300 fps from a 26" to a 20" barrel. thats some hornady hype right there.
The federal shot a bit faster but still low.
Depending of the factory ammo, you can lose between 25 up to 75 fps by inch of barrel....
@ and it adds up fast
Hornady cannot get Reloder26 for this ammo. Sad but true. I bet federal has tons of 26 for the 7BC!😂
Hornady is screwing everyone with the 7 PRC ammo. They had to change powder due to a shortage but never told the public till a short time ago on their podcast.
Facts this is true..
The Barrel was cleaned right when I got it.
Man, so many guys bitching in the comments. I think this is a great inexpensive rifle for most hunters on this continent. The amount of dudes whining about velocity is wild as if they need a ton of power out to 500yds 😂
@ yeah I got the 20 for a purpose not for bench shooting back country hunting. Here in the PNW it’s like a jungle in some area’s and hiking in with the rifle in the pack it can get in the way with longer barrels so the thought around it was it wouldn’t get snagged as much lol.
Those speeds are so slow. I can get more out of a 180gr in my 308. I averaged 2920 with the 175gr Eld-x out of a 26” barrel with my 7 PRC.
@@soupie31547 yep this is a 20” barrel
@@ridgelinehuntingsounds about right though. Around 50fps per inch.
@@soupie31547yeah I got it for back country hunting here in Washington state didn’t want a long barrel getting snagged on stuff. So my goal is to find a load or a hand load that will get me around 2900 with this barrel so we will see.
@@ridgelinehunting…good luck. Without barrel length you won’t see anything close to 2900. That said, the gun will serve you well as the BC will help a lot!
Yes that barrel is 6inches longer. That’s why the 7PRC makes sense because it makes more of the 20in barrel than the .308 would but still keeps it compact
Just a recommendation but with any new rifle, first thing I do is clean the barrel prior to shooting. I've received some that already had rust spots in them and globs of oil oil. If you shoot a new gun with that in it you can create micro-bulging and if that happens the rifle will never shoot well.
@@Accuracy1st in the vary first clip that’s what was being done was cleaning it. So that was done.
