Hey Farvann, If you could have a beer with any being from any mythology (be it a god, person, mythical creature...) who would it be and why? Love your videos, keep that great work up. Greetings from Czech Republic. PS: I just got into Armagedda because of you, great band. Cheers!
Farvann, you proably won't believe this but your channel and Ola's channel are the highlight of my RUclips addiction. I want to do what you do in the near future. Cheers man, and thank you for the inspiration.
If you have birthday party, will your birthday party played only or mostly black metal ? Do you use black metal song as alarm clock song or song that make you sleep easily and well ? If you do, could you tell those songs name ?
Not sure if this has been asked before, but what do you think about Depressive Suicidal Black Metal? Also, have you listened to Blackened Sludge? (bands like Coffinworm, Dragged Into Sunlight, Radien, Mizmor and Lord Mantis to name a few) What are your thoughts on the genre?
Yes, marras is a word and it is Finnish. The etymology book says: "death, dying human, deceased, omen of death" (not sure it's the correct translation). Some more details about the origin of the word etc. but basicly it's connected death/not living/not being to give life/being mortal (thus dying one day) It's not commonly used - not on its own, only as a compound word. The most common would be marraskuu = November. Marraskuu is literally "the month of death/dying". The common word for death is kuolema and to die - kuolla, not the one above. I guess no-one's interested to know this but just in case. :D
If you could create a new metal genre, what would it sound like? For example: My best friend suggested Black Metal with clean vocals, something similar to skyforest.
Is a wife with some heavy metal, thrash and some hard rock ok? (Throw in some prog and glam metal in as well). Dark hair, living in the Netherlands but French nationality.
IMO HFTS is Post-Black-Metal, you can hear grief moments out of the music, but not in a depressing way such es DSBM, their music contains not the vibe or feeling to be atmospheric or blackgaze and it's far beyond being trv cvlt as the classics.
Hi farvann, have you ever thought about going to the black metal festival Beyond the gates in Bergen? I went there last week and i had a great time Cheers from Italy
do you like reading? what kind of books do you read, if you do? Do you think there is a lot of influence from Nietzsche's philosophy on metal, if you are familiar with it
I wrote a short work about Nietzsche in School as one of my exams. In it I shortly talked about Nietzsche and music. I would definitely say, that Nietzsches influence on Metal is much higher than on most other music. Especially for the Anti christian Black Metal, Nietzsche was important, because he, Marx and Feuerbach, the 3 big critics of religion and especially Christianity did pave the way for being anti Christianity in the west without being almost exiled from society. Obviously the whole era enlightenment, with Kant also did help. One might could think that Nietzsche also is inspiring when it comes to nihilism, but if you look at his works, they are rather about filling the void of nihilism, than appreciating it. For appreciating it, Schopenhauer is more important, I would say. Nietzsche was interested in mythology, especially Greek Mythology and especially in apollo and dyonysos, but I can not explain what he saw in them. In Metal you often also have interest in mythology, but I would say, that the norse mythology is more prominent. But the most important aspects in Nietzsches works is the "Übermensch"(Superman), which, according to him is the way to go, to get over the already mentioned nihilism. While being a superhuman does appear in metal, like in "I" by Black Sabbath, most Manowar songs etc. it doesn't doesn't really serve the purpose to make your own lifes purpose. I hope this was understandable, I am german and Englisch is therefore not my native language. If you want to take a look at Nietzsches Philosophy, you should read "Also sprach Zarathustra" (I think the English title is "Thus spoke Zarathustra") . It's basically Nietzsche letting the figure of Zarathustra explain Nietzsches Philosophy, which makes it easier to read than his other works. And already in the first few chapters you can learn a lot.
@@hendrikm9569 I agree with your analysis. I'm already familiar with Nietzsche's philosophy. I read about 5-6 of his most influential books, some of them more than once. Describing Nietzsche as a nihilist is one of great misunderstanding of his work propagated by pop culture and journalists that have little or no knowledge on the topic. In his books he wrote a lot against nihilism, describing it as whatever perverts the nature of man, such as Christian morality. Übermensch certainly is among the most important elements of his philosophy, the one that unifies the others: death of god, will to power, Apollonian vs Dionysian, anti-christianity, and maybe some more. I too am not sure what specifically he liked about Apollo and Dionysus. I suspect it has something to do with what they represent, which is asceticism and celebration of life. There are some moments in his books where it may seem like he is lamenting the solitude of being different among the masses while on other moments celebrates the suffering for making him, or the superman stronger, and also giving some kind of artistic inspiration. It is often difficult to determine what he wanted to say in his books because of his writing style. This element of lamenting the suffering and loneliness while celebrating it in the same time can also be found in metal. Especially black metal. I would not recommend Thus spoke Zarathustra for the first read of Nietzsche. It seems the book is some kind of synthesis, and a metaphoric synthesis of a lot of his work.He keeps repeating and reexamining his points throughout his works but some books are kind of specialized in certain topics. So to begin, maybe other works would be better to start like the Antichrist where he describes his critique of Christianity and christian morality. Another very important work is Beyond good and evil where he defines Will to power as the most fundamental instinct that governs all other instincts. As such it questions the existence of free will. Another good one is Twilight of Idols which is, if I remember well a mixture of many things. I believe that these 3 books help in understanding his Zarathustra because they are not so full of metaphors. Metaphors may often be confusing, but his writing is so beautifully written, especially Zarathustra. Thank you for taking the time to write about Nietzsche. As it may be seen I'm a big fan. Hopefully other interested people will learn something from our posts. Jordan Peterson has an excellent understanding of Nietzsche's philosophy. He explains some concepts in some of his recorded lectures on youtube. I too am not a native English speaker so I would not notice minor mistakes :D
