I'm in the camp of this NOT bring a Christmas movie. For me it has to be about the holiday, not just take place during that time of the year. For a true Hokiday movie watch 'A Christmas Story'. A great little story about a boy and his family and his wish and his efforts of getting a specific gift for Christmas.
Her name is Holly (Christmas holly). Limmo driver is Argyle (stocking). There's Christmas music everywhere. It "snows" money bonds. it takes place on Christmas Eve and is about a family reunion. There're a sleigh ride (helicopter shenanigans) above rooftops with the FBI (Santa) gleefully promising results (gifts). But just like Xmas, it's Dad and mom who are really the heroes. Hell, the last line of the movie literally tells us what kind of movie we're in. "If this is your idea of Christmas, I gotta be here for new years." credits roll... AND... Christmas music! Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie.
Definitely not a holiday movie. It could take place at any time of year without affecting the story at all. The party could have been for any reason. It is a fantastic action movie, though. Great reaction!
Alan Rickman is a gift to all humanity. I love the dry delivery of the "Ho.. Ho.. Ho.." line almost as much as I love "By Grapthar's Hammer.... what a savings."
"Alan Rickman is a gift to all humanity" Yes, of course he is. Anybody that doesn't think so, I hope they come out of their coma soon and watch his movies. BTW. The look on his face when he's dropped out of the building is genuine. He thought he was falling 5 feet, not 30 feet. That's why the acting was so good. He was genuinely terrified.
23:25 "There is no way the structural integrity of the building is intact after this." Actually, it's just fine. Just needs a few screen doors... Seriously though: in 1993, a bomb much, much, MUCH bigger (1,310 pounds of explosive) was detonated in the World Trade Center. That gigantic blast blew up a bunch of concrete and knocked out windows of many nearby buildings. Furthermore, much of the blast was contained inside the concrete structure which made it so the only way the blast could expand was to blow the building apart. As for the building, it was fine. One structural beam was damaged and had to be replaced. The repairs were completed in 20 days and the building was back in business like nothing had happened. Compared to this explosion? 2 pounds of c4 and a half dozen unfired rockets, with 98% of the explosion going out the windows? Well, if that giant bomb couldn't bring down one of the heaviest, most massive buildings ever built, then this comparatively tiny explosion here never had a chance to hurt this building.
5:35 "The fence should have been down so they couldn't drive in. Why wasn't it down?" There are more than 50 people in the building, and every one of them except John McClane has a car in that parking garage. In all likelihood, the "Close the garage" button closes everything and opens everything. No reason to lock everybody in so they can't leave, which means people coming late, as well as caterers delivering food and beverage for the party, can all come and go as needed.
The director wanted these vaguely European guys to speak German...which none of them actually knew. Some of it is actually German, though. The word 'schnell' means 'quickly'. So the guy was yelling at his partner to hurry up. And yes, the guy was snorting cocaine...a lot.
2:50 "This is not holiday music." Well, yeah, it is. Imagine. It's 1949. Everybody knows the classics like Silent Night, JIngle Bells, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, and The Twelve Days of Christmas, which were all popular in the 1800s. Then some modern guy, an actor and singer named Gene Autry plays a new song on the radio, first time ever. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I guarantee you that people said "This is not holiday music." Because it didn't sound anything like those old classic favorites. And yet, look at Rudolph now. Nobody doubts his place in our Christmas songs and traditions today. The song that you don't think is holiday music is a song by Run-D.M.C. called Christmas in Hollis. The lyrics are about a man who met Santa Claus in the park and accidentally ended up with Santa's wallet with a million dollars in it. He tried to return the wallet but couldn't find Santa anymore. Then when he got home he found a note under the tree that he should keep Santa's money as a gift from Santa. Is Rap music traditional for the holidays? Nope. Is this new (at the time) song traditional for the holidays? Nope. But neither was Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in 1949. Times change, music changes, new songs are written. Whatever else you think about this song, it's is about Santa Claus and Christmas, and it plays to an audience that likes that kind of music. Many of the people who like Rap music probably like this song a lot more than they like Bing Crosby or Gene Autry.
This was Alan Rickman's First movie in Hollywood.... He had only been in Hollywood for a week, Alan almost Turned down the Role cause he wasn't comfortable playing a Villian..... Ended up playing one of the best Villians........ Although I seen him in this, I started paying attention to him after seeing him in "Quigley Down Under," then "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves".....
Fun fact; Alan Rickman was uncomfortable with handling a gun, so in the scene where he kills the head honcho, you'll see the cut to a splatter of blood on the glass. Rickman was unable to pull the trigger without flinching, which rendered any takes they may have made useless.
I didn’t know it was his first role! It’s so cool how much I learn from everyone’s comments. Thank you! I loved him in Sense and Sensibility, I should watch more movies he’s in.
19:35 William Atherton, who played Dick Thornburg (The news reporter) in Die Hard, played Walter Peck in Ghostbusters. 39:01 Fun Fact about that, that shot was on a blue screen, Alan Rickman was held from a high drop, a stuntman was to drop Rickman on three, but was let go two seconds too early so they could capture Rickman's look of shock as he drops down onto an airmat, Rickman was so livid he quit after that scene was shot
I ADORE that movie. I can't count how many times I've seen it. Not sure what it is about that movie I love, but it's like cotton candy for me, I can just sit down and it calms me. @@jean-paulaudette9246
My 3rd video of yours: I thought you were German for saying "shiesse!". Swedish and German have that in common 😅 Schnell is "hurry!" Alan Rickman is also a charismatic villain in "Quigley Down Under". Alexander Godunov (the angry brother) in a small part but very good in "Witness" with Harrison Ford.
"I feel like they're wasting an awful lot of bullets." That's what I can't understand about machine guns. Most of the bullets miss their mark, which seems like a waste to me. In fact, guns in general are a waste.
@Sessis well, if the store manager could verify they're real and wanted to trade them, but they're usually in large amounts, like 10k to a million or more.
9:49 "Come to Papa. I kissed your f-- Dalmatian." You may not know this, but, in the U.S., the Dalmatian dog breed has been associated with firemen for more than a century.
This was Rickman's big break in movies. Back then police could carry their concealed service side arms most places. People could smoke most anywhere. Things have improved greatly. Christmas is a major holiday in Japan, but completely secular. The building has to withstand earthquakes which have more energy than a few kilograms of explosives. Actual explosives would produce a blast and little flame which would dissipate in the air space and breaking the windows. Actually demolitions require a lot of carefully placed explosives. Nobody mourns the death of those two FBI agents. Whether they live together varies by sequel, depending on actor available I guess.
Did you know Bruce Willis was probably their 10th pick for John McClane? Before that they first asked Frank Sinatra cuz Die Hard was based on a book that was a sequel to another book that was adapted into a movie called the Detective that starred Sinatra, but he was "too old and rich" and that point so they then asked Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Gere, Burt Reynolds, Jimmy Caan, and any other big name they could get in touch with and Bruce was their last pic cuz he was doing TV rom coms at that time Also this was the first movie Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) ever did
Oh wow that’s so cool to hear about. Seriously one of the most awesome thing of me staring movie reaction is learning in the comments about things like this that I had no idea of! So many people passing up the role, nice for Bruce! I had clue this was Alan Rickmans first movie, I should watch more of the things he’s done.
"Are police officers allowed to fly with guns?" I don't know -- but one thing note is that this movie was written and is set long before the events of 9-11 (September 11, 2001). After that coordinated attack, almost all U.S. airplane and airport safety rules were drastically changed to be much more strict.
A friend who knew Al Leong from the Asian American Theater Company told he said that people still recognize him from this movie and say "You're the guy who stole the candy bar in 'Die Hard!'"
27:16 "No. Helsinki is not in Sweden." He can be forgiven the slip because the _real_ mistake was they should have said Stockholm Syndrome, not Helsinki Syndrome. This term refers to when a hostage develops a psychological bond with their captor(s), which happens with about 8% of hostages and takes its name from a 1973 robbery of Sveriges Kreditbank in Sweden.
What a good christmas movie, it totally is centered around the holidays 😅 I understand why some people think it's a christmas movie, and for me that's enough to make it qualify :D
Let me guess, you've only seen it once - or maybe your deaf. Go search the internet for clues to why it is absolutely a Christmas movie and then come back.
@dyseskytten1 Emil has joined for our now traditional Die Hard watch party the past 3 years. Also taste is like the butt, divided 👍 would be awful boring if we all like actual the same movies for the exact same reasons. Please don’t be mean in my comment section
@@Sessis I'm not trying to be mean but whether its a Christmas movie is not a subjective opinion. Whether you like it or want to watch it is. This is a huge issue in the world today. This is why we got flat-earthers and vaccine-deniers again - replacing the known facts with their subjective opinion "I think this and because I think this then I'm right". I personally don't like "A wonderful life", I would never watch it at Christmas but I don't argue that it IS a Christmas movie.
It occurs to me it's too bad we never got a movie with both Clint Eastwood and Alan Rickman staring at each other, then offering us slow lines of dialogue. Alan: "Ho ... ho ... ho." (meaningful stare) Clint: (squint, plays with cigarette) " ... I guess."
To answer your question 3:55 yes red champain exist, but it's not the traditional way to make it but you can have it. It's make with mixing red wine and white wine before the transformation (make bubbles !) into champain (this one is more clear and light) OR take red champain grape and keep the skin until the transformation then remove the grape skins. But yes drink it in plastic goblet is pretty disturbing but also typic of company parties.
15:38 "Those are some strong windows." Yeah. It's required in all tall buildings. Little houses on the ground can have fragile glass windows. If you trip and fall and one breaks, you fall out and die from the 1 meter fall to your garden. Tall buildings like this, the glass is required to be much stronger. People lean on those windows, bump into them, maybe even trip and fall against them - that would be fatal if the the window wasn't tough.
I wonder if the barer bonds would have only been marked as stolen only in the US. If they traveled to a different country, perhaps they would be able to use them.
By the way, those MP5 sub-machine guns work with magazine that hold 30, 40 or 50 rounds. The usual ones used are the 30-round versions, which is what I saw them reloading with in a couple of scenes (though I know they have only 'blank' rounds that do not actually shoot out bullets).
U.S. Police Officers (along with many Federal Agency Officers, such as FBI, Secret Service , DEA, and other agents) 'Can' carry on a plane if they are 'Active Duty, and their agency spends the money to send them to a special training school for a week. This is normally only done for Officers who have at least part of their job picking up criminals that have been extradited from another State or City. New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and several other U.S. cities do have a number of officers (usually detectives) who are frequently asked to do that task.
The reason why Alan Rickman didnt scream when he was falling down is because the director told him that were going to drop him on the count of three but dropped on the count of one, so it took him by surprise when he fell. The director wanted a true expression on his face as he was falling and not a fake one. I dont think Die Hard is a x-mas movie, its an action movie happening during x-mas time. No snow makes it non x-mas for me. But Die Hard 2 - Die Harder is a x-mas movie, again because there is alot of snow in it . Me being swedish too makes it even more fun for me to watch you react to movie with your swedish comments sneaking in from time to time.
Oh wow that seems unsafe of the director to do with something like a fall where landing correctly can be very important. Glad to meet a fellow Swede 👋 thank you for being here and for taking the time to share with me!
The outside of Twinkies taste kind of like vanilla cake, and have a very soft, spongey texture. The inside tastes like a blend of whipped cream and vanilla icing. Hope this helps, Sessis!
Dear Miss Sessia, thank you so much for next great, perfect reactions and interesting opinions! Btw,Mr.Bruce Willis has a serious health problem in this time - God Bless Him.Have a nice, peaceful Pre-Christmas time and take care.
According to the official lore of the British Army's 57th Regiment of Foot (which has now been absorbed in to Queen's Regiment) the term "die hard" (meaning someone who against all odds and all reason refuses to give up) originated in 1811 at the Battle of Albera. The 57th was in danger of being overrun by the French, and their commanding officer Col. William Inglis was severely wounded by in the neck and chest. Lying by the regimental colors, bleeding badly and in terrible pain, Inglis refused to be evacuated from the battlefield and stayed with his men urging them to hold their ground or die trying with the words "Die hard, 57th! Die hard!" Though suffering heavy losses, the 57th did manage to hold until British reinforcements could be brought up to drive the French away. The after action report stated that every soldier of the 57th wounded or killed in the battle had been hit in the front facing the enemy, not in the back running from them, and the French commander, Marshal Jean Soult, would later complain "How can you defeat such troops? I penetrated their center. I turned their flank. They were beaten. The day was mine. But they did not know how to run away!" Since then, the 57th have been nicknamed "The Diehards." There are indications that the term "die hard" may predate the Battle of Albuera, but even ig the 5th didn't invent it, they certainly earned it as a nickname.
Alan Rickman mentioned that he could pull off an American accent, although this is the only time I recall him using it. Thus the short scene where his character tries to fool John Maclean as to his real identity.
A newspaper review of "Die Hard" when it first came out called Reginald VelJohnson's character, Sgt. Al Powell, "THE TEDDY-BEAR-LIKE COP" who befriends McClane. I thought that was the perfect description of lovable actor Reginald VelJohnson.
Sessis, it sounds like you thought John should have just moved. As a police officer if there were pending cases in New York he would have had to make himself available for depositions, in court testimony etcetera. If he left he would either have to fly back, who knows how many times, upon request or be charged with contempt of court. The penalties could be jail time and/or fines. Even after the trials are completed he could still be called back if there are appeals but much less likely and there is more flexibility on the timing.
Oh he would have faced legal trouble if he wanted to quit or transfer to an other office closer to her work? I didn’t know that. Definitely changed things. Really think he at least should have made it clear his handling what he needs for work and will move when he safely can do so. My personal opinion is one movies with a life partner who gets a good new job opportunity. Would ofc thought the same if roles were reversed
It is not just that John has immediate obligations in New York. You asked in the reaction why he is squandering his family and why he thinks his job is more important than his family. But you didn’t even think to ask why his wife felt her job was more important. He did not leave his family, she left him and took his children with her. She did this for her job, which is about making money. His job is protecting the public and putting criminals in prison. None of us know what conversations took place before her leaving but I don’t think it is fair to assume John was at fault and in the wrong.
Great reaction Sessis like always, i love this classic Xmas movie no matter what people say, i have reasons The basic narrative situation of this movie is a man returning to his family for Christmas. His wife is called Holly. It takes place on Christmas Eve. Not Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July. It could have been set any week of the year, but wasn’t. The chief villain Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) explicitly invokes the Christmas spirit: “It’s Christmas, Theo, it’s a time for miracles.” Gruber is a classic bad capitalist villain: he’s there to steal money. Just as Old Man Potter does in It’s a Wonderful Life. Fun fact: The scene when Alan Rickman gets dropped out of the window, they had him up above an air bag, and they said "we'll count to three and drop you," but they dropped him on "2" so that look of surprise on his face is genuine. Keep up the amazing work and “Yippee Ki Yay” lol
Fun Fact: this film was nominated for academy award for best sound, sound effects editing, film editing and visual effects, but lose to the movies who framed roger rabbit and bird(1988 film) ! Now you gonna watch christmas movies in december right? I recommend to watch: the polar express, jim carrey the grinch and disney a christmas carol (2009)!!
That’s so interesting to hear, thank you for sharing! I’m definitely planning to watch some more “traditional” holiday movies too. Thanks for the recommendations
28:30 "Why would he not recognize his voice?" You may not have noticed with your Swedish ears, but Hans has replaced his German accent with an American one.
Next year, you should watch another holiday movie, Lethal Weapon! The movie specifically examines the increased levels of depression some people suffer during Christmas!!!
Yup this is a Christmas movie for me, always watch it each year during the holidays. Also this is the first movie I saw in cinemas, I was six....yeah my parents are weird 😁 While he is Snape to younger folks, for an old guy like me Alan Rickman will always be Hans Gruber 🤩
1:08 " . . . barefoot and make fists with your toes." "Ah?! How does that help?" I think the idea is it's intended to help you feel grounded in the new place rather than maintaining an obsolete link with where you traveled from. As to whether or not it works, . . . 🤷♂
7:08 "it's not safe to walk around in a construction site barefoot." Nah. He'll be fine. Nothing bad will happen to his bare feet this whole movie... :)
Some people just like to live in denial and wear blinders. A movie that takes place on Christmas eve, during a Christmas party and has Christmas music isn't a Christmas movie? Take your blinders off and see what's right in front of your face
13:58 "Is that really a good idea?" I wouldn't recommend it in real life! In the next few shots, real-world physics and anatomy take a back seat to action-movie logic.
Hi Sessis! It's my first time watching a movie on your channel! First of all. You are cute as f... Second, I seen potentiel on your channel to raise to a high number of subs, because of your great reaction here! :) Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to see more of you content! All the best from neighbour country, Denmark! //Kasper :)
Hey Kasper thank you so much for the kind and encouraging comment! Really appreciate it. Hope you’ll continue to enjoy my reactions. I’m having a lot of fun being able to finally share watching movies with others where I’m not annoying anyone with my questions or remarks 😁
7:27 "Wouldn't they know what he looks like?" Not necessarily. Remember, this was long before the internet was well established and company websites were a thing. Often times the CEO would only be seen as a name or signature on various company documents (unless you worked directly with them or were one of their regular local business contacts) -- at least until they rose in importance enough to be featured in, say, Forbes magazine.
Die Hard is NOT a Holiday Movie. :P But, Let's go anyways. THAT Sess is RUN DMC! (Old school REAL Rap, and yes it was a Xmas song) Yes we had VERY Limited touch screens. EVERYONE did "Coke" in the 80's. 😂 "Wow he was young back then" Really, really Sessstare. Twinkies taste AMAZING! The news anchor is played by William Atherton. He has been in many movies, but importantly Ghostbusters, which you just watched. He was the guy who shut down the vault that was holding the ghosts and let them free. He always plays a really smarmy a hole.SessLUL Yess, we had special effects in the 80's. You're killing me! ;) Great job as usual my friend. Ready for the next one.
I'm sure this is going to be controversial but here goes: 2:15 "They're not happily married." John looks at a very beautiful woman for about a second. "You might be able to see why." No. Please tell me why? If you're living in a world of make-believe where you will meet a person, fall in love, and that person will NEVER look at another attractive person ever, or, if they do, you'll "see why" you should be unhappy, then I truly feel sorry for you. You cannot be the thought police. You cannot put people in jail over what they think, or what they find attractive. I've been happily married for 30 years. My wife gushes about guys like Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, and even Liam Neeson. I gush over Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron, and Gal Gadot. We even talk about which celebrities might tempt us to cheat on each other. Jokingly, I think. It's all in fun. Why? Because we embrace human sexuality and instincts. We know that people LOOK at other attractive people. It would be rude, insensitive, and unrealistic for me to expect her to NOT look at hot guys. And she allows me the same freedom. Because we are human beings who trust each other not to actually DO anything to hurt each other. With that trust, we don't even try to control each others' thoughts or attractions. Everybody's happier that way. Nobody is suppressed or oppressed, or made to feel bad because they had a fleeting and uncontrollable human emotion. Now consider the movie. John and his wife ARE separated, but not for the reason you just assumed. John saw a beautiful woman and he looked for a second or two, then moved on. No drooling, no ogling, no impropriety. In short, he did nothing wrong. /rant
Sessis, I'm glad you reacted to my favorite 'Christmas' movie. I don't care about the debate. What I'm concern about, is you never tried Twinkies! 😂😜 Love your accent! ❤️ Keep up the reaction vids!!
"Schnell" means "fast" or "quickly" in German. "Schiess den Fenster" -- literally "shoot the window." "Helsinki, Sweden" -- sure, if you're using an 18th century map. Does it also have The Republic of Venice and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on it?
At the time that this movie was made, airport security in the United States was not as stringent as it is today, being that this was prior to the events of 9/11.
This film is set during Christmas, but I dont think of it as a Christmas movie, per se. Is it one of the greatest action movies of all time? Definitely!
Meh, I've got my own opinion, but frankly I'm so tired of such a silly debate getting so many people upset, I'd really just prefer to hear the end of it.
no its not a Christmas movie for me it has to be a cozy movie you can see with your whole family even the little kid on 3 years old, and its a must it has to have snow, no snow no Christmas movie. like Frozen is not a Christmas movie but for me its more a Christmas movie then this one
I like the idea of thinking if it’s appropriate for small children. It’s definitely a time of year that children are very involved in. For me the cozy factor is the big thing that’s needed
This isn't a subjektive debate, though. I would never associate "It's a Wonderful Life" with Christmas- I never watch it at Christmas but I not claiming it's not a Christmas movie l. Die Hard along with Home alone is the most watched Christmas movies at Christmas. This is a statistical fact.
7:59 " . . . the $640 million in negotiable bearer bonds that you have locked in your vault." "Ooooh! That's a lot of money." Even more when you account for inflation. In today's dollars, that would be $1.7 billion!
I'm neutral on the "Christmas" movie debate, as I can go either way honestly, I'm not that invested overall. But if I give it some thought, I would ask does it being holiday time change the movie in any way if it wasn't? So lets say it was the wife's B-Day, and the party at work was for that, would the movie play out the exact same way? Technically no, as the Ho Ho Ho joke would be changed or not exist at all. So while Christmas might be a small thing to this movie, it's still a part of it, so yeah, I guess it qualifies as a Christmas movie. My 2 cents.
Great movie . Fyi Bruce Will started his career as tv star on a the comedy Moonlighting. No body believe he can be a good action hero only after this movie he started to do action movies and became a action star. Also this is Alan Rickman breakout role. You should watch Die Hard 2 it is even more a Christmas movie. Die Hard 3 is also great. Die Hard 4 and 5 are complete crap not worth your time. You can also watch It's A Wonderful Life which is the ultimate Christmas movie
1. Karl/Alexander Godunov😇 also played in "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and "Witness" with non-Indiana/Solo Harrison Ford. He had a very interesting story. 2. Robinson/Paul Gleason 😇 seems to always play buttheads. I.e. "Trading Places" and "The Breakfast Club". 3. John will have a place to stay tonight after all.😍😋😈 4. The body that went out the window has bullets in it, dumbass.🙄 5. Another fun Willis movie that have similar events is "The Last Boy Scout". They drop more F-bombs that you can shake a stick at. Including a little girl. 6. Christmas movie? YES. It takes place at a Christmas party, on Christmas Eve. 7. Missing you Bruce.☹ NOTE: You ask who did the construction. It's a movie.
Is this a holiday movie for you?
This is a cristmas movie sessis 😁 hur kan du va på nej sidan? 😂
It's one of those that are more fun to watch around Christmas time
Her name is Holly (Christmas holly).
He was a really phenomenal actor, I should watch more of his movies. Loved him in Sense and Sensibility
He was great in "Quigley Down Under'. It is a greatly underrated movie!
23:25 "There is no way the structural integrity of the building is intact after this."
Actually, it's just fine. Just needs a few screen doors...

5:35 "The fence should have been down so they couldn't drive in. Why wasn't it down?"
There are more than 50 people in the building, and every one of them except John McClane has a car in that parking garage.
In all likelihood, the "Close the garage" button closes everything and opens everything.
No reason to lock everybody in so they can't leave, which means people coming late, as well as caterers delivering food and beverage for the party, can all come and go as needed.

Stealing the candy bar: the only successful robbery in the movie. 🙂
2:50 "This is not holiday music."
Well, yeah, it is.
Imagine.
I guarantee you that people said "This is not holiday music."
Because it didn't sound anything like those old classic favorites.
@@Sessis in addition to the 2 movies I mentioned above he wss also in "The January Man".....
The gun on the plane: yes, back in the day police officers could have their guns when they traveled.
Atherton also plays a jerk in one of my very favorite comedies, "Real Genius".
Swedish and German have that in common 😅
Schnell is "hurry!"
Alan Rickman is also a charismatic villain in "Quigley Down Under".
Alexander Godunov (the angry brother) in a small part but very good in "Witness" with Harrison Ford.
100% a christmas movie right down to the bearer bonds falling like snow from the Nakatomi building
Hahah I didn’t think about that
"I feel like they're wasting an awful lot of bullets."
That's what I can't understand about machine guns. Most of the bullets miss their mark, which seems like a waste to me.
In fact, guns in general are a waste.
Bearer bonds have value for whoever is holding them, they're not traced or anything, so they're like unmarked cash.
Ah okay but could you like use them in a store? Thank you for explaining
Wow thank you for answering so many of my questions! Seriously the amount of new information and answers I now learn in the comments is amazing!
Did you know Bruce Willis was probably their 10th pick for John McClane?
Before that they first asked Frank Sinatra cuz Die Hard was based on a book that was a sequel to another book that was adapted into a movie called the Detective that starred Sinatra, but he was "too old and rich" and that point so they then asked Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Gere, Burt Reynolds, Jimmy Caan, and any other big name they could get in touch with and Bruce was their last pic cuz he was doing TV rom coms at that time
Also this was the first movie Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) ever did
Oh wow that’s so cool to hear about. Seriously one of the most awesome thing of me staring movie reaction is learning in the comments about things like this that I had no idea of! So many people passing up the role, nice for Bruce! I had clue this was Alan Rickmans first movie, I should watch more of the things he’s done.
@@Sessis definitely recommend you do!
Awww yeah! Finally the PINNACLE of Christmas movies!
Glad Påsk! 😂 You made me laugh thank you for being you Neslin sessHug
Great reaction, Sessi. And, it isn't christmas until Hans Gruber falls off the Nakatomi Plaza.

19:32 He's been in tons of things throughout a long career, but you're probably most likely to recognize him as the EPA inspector in Ghostbusters.
23:49 "Is he from Ghostbusters?!?" Yep, you got it! 👻👍
What a good christmas movie, it totally is centered around the holidays 😅
I understand why some people think it's a christmas movie, and for me that's enough to make it qualify :D
Let me guess, you've only seen it once - or maybe your deaf. Go search the internet for clues to why it is absolutely a Christmas movie and then come back.
@@dyseskytten1 why so hostile?
Agreed
RV = Recreational Vehicle. Though it was Armoured.
SCHNELL means Go
It occurs to me it's too bad we never got a movie with both Clint Eastwood and Alan Rickman staring at each other, then offering us slow lines of dialogue.
Alan: "Ho ... ho ... ho." (meaningful stare)
Clint: (squint, plays with cigarette) " ... I guess."
You did get the next best thing, Quigley Down Under. "This ain't Doge City....."
15:38 "Those are some strong windows."
Yeah.
Oooo okay thanks for explaining that
I wonder if the barer bonds would have only been marked as stolen only in the US.
Half the world doesn't experience snow during Christmas.
The outside of Twinkies taste kind of like vanilla cake, and have a very soft, spongey texture. The inside tastes like a blend of whipped cream and vanilla icing. Hope this helps, Sessis!
Christmas doesn't begin until Hans falls from Nakatomi tower.
Fun one, Sessis! Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
For perspective: $640 Million in 1988 is the equivalent of $1.7 Billion in 2024.
Thank for explaining that, love how much I can learn from everyone who takes the time to teach me things I didn’t know off! Much appreciated!
I heard that they dropped Alan Rickman without telling him, which is why he looks so surprised falling off the building.
Oh he knew he was going to fall, in a harness and hanging… they just told him they were going to do it on 3 and let him go early.
The scene where John and Hans meet is filmed with a “Dutch angle” which is used to indicate suspicion. So, yeah, John knew.
It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber drops out the window
No it's a Christmas movie that's final 😑
"It could have been set any week of the year, but wasn’t." In my opinion, that's what proves it's NOT a Christmas movie.
@@bigdream_dreambig so you would agree that home alone isnt a christmas movie either cause it could happen any time of the year

So sad that you're WRONG, of course it's a Christmas Movie.
22:00 " 'Snäll' in Swedish means 'kind.' " It's actually "schnell," which means "fast" or "quickly" in German.
Next year, you should watch another holiday movie, Lethal Weapon! The movie specifically examines the increased levels of depression some people suffer during Christmas!!!
Yup this is a Christmas movie for me, always watch it each year during the holidays. Also this is the first movie I saw in cinemas, I was six....yeah my parents are weird 😁

Rest in peace indeed, he was such a good actor. Thank you for the encouragement!
1:08 " . . . barefoot and make fists with your toes." "Ah?! How does that help?" I think the idea is it's intended to help you feel grounded in the new place rather than maintaining an obsolete link with where you traveled from. As to whether or not it works, . . . 🤷♂

Nah.

I'm sure this is going to be controversial but here goes:
2:15 "They're not happily married."
John looks at a very beautiful woman for about a second.
"You might be able to see why."
No.
/rant

"Schnell" means "fast" or "quickly" in German.
"Schiess den Fenster" -- literally "shoot the window."
"Helsinki, Sweden" -- sure, if you're using an 18th century map. Does it also have The Republic of Venice and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on it?
At the time that this movie was made, airport security in the United States was not as stringent as it is today, being that this was prior to the events of 9/11.

It's a holiday movie IMO because it has a lot of holiday tunes and a Santa Outfit 😅. Also schnell in German means faster.

Meh, I've got my own opinion, but frankly I'm so tired of such a silly debate getting so many people upset, I'd really just prefer to hear the end of it.
People get upset over if it’s a holiday movie or not? That seems a little odd 😅 it’s just a movie and everyone knows taste is like the butt, divided 👍

no its not a Christmas movie for me it has to be a cozy movie you can see with your whole family even the little kid on 3 years old, and its a must it has to have snow, no snow no Christmas movie. like Frozen is not a Christmas movie but for me its more a Christmas movie then this one
that's a blasphemy
It has snow. It also literally has the music of "let it snow" several times in the movie.
You are so pretty!

@@Sessis You're welcome
I'm neutral on the "Christmas" movie debate, as I can go either way honestly, I'm not that invested overall. But if I give it some thought, I would ask does it being holiday time change the movie in any way if it wasn't? So lets say it was the wife's B-Day, and the party at work was for that, would the movie play out the exact same way? Technically no, as the Ho Ho Ho joke would be changed or not exist at all. So while Christmas might be a small thing to this movie, it's still a part of it, so yeah, I guess it qualifies as a Christmas movie. My 2 cents.
snell means 'quicker' in german
Great movie . Fyi Bruce Will started his career as tv star on a the comedy Moonlighting.
