Do you have factory or aftermarket lugs? I’m not sure of your car but Honda’s have had ball seat lugs on all the older cars I’ve had. And all aftermarket wheels have conical seats on them. That’s how they center the wheel with the cone shaped lugs and wheel seats. They are called lug centric design as oppose to hub centric design like many BMW or German made vehicles. You can also be extra careful when putting the lugs on to not tighten one down all the way to the wheel but get it close and then get another close and you’ll actually see the wheel get centered. As others have said rotate the wheels to see if vibration moves to the steering wheel. Lastly, the road force balance tells the installer where to mark the tire to rotate on the rim. If they didn’t let the air out, break the beads and spin the tires they didn’t do anything but print some numbers out. I know this because I’ve been into cars all my life and worked for Discount Tire for 10 years. I couldn’t tell you how many tire wheel combo’s I’ve had in the last 30 years of modding and drag racing and road racing Hondas and other imports. Probably 100+ Good luck.
Yep some of the places here in Australia come with the right size adaptors / rings - but most don't really mention it. Make sure your BRZ has the right ones also.
Nearly all aftermarket wheels will need hub rings. I bought some Wedssport wheels and they offered really cool hub ring/logo wheel inserts. Nicely made. Won't corrode. Typically tire rack automatically includes plastic hub centering rings. You do have lug nuts that are made for your wheels., right?
Your car looks beautiful, I have a 13 Honda CRV. I’m crazy over that car I lowered it. I put mustang thrust cut rims on it wide tires. It looks psycho but it sucks because it’s automatic.
I’m having vibration issues now with my ‘20 Accord with OEM wheels and tires. It didn’t start until I recently got them rotated at Honda. I eventually got them balanced twice(second was road force) at Discount Tire and even got an alignment. The road force balance was just a check, they didn’t actually perform any adjustments because it was within spec. My vibration still exists but it’s barely noticeable now. I just wanted to share this because it’s not just aftermarket wheels and tires that have this issue.

Hey cam ! Thanks for shining light on this subject, I would have never known about this issue. I always learn something new! Will definitely need to do some research before getting TEs. Im currently having an issue with my FK8 where there is this loud squeaking/vibrating/rattling noise coming from the back. It’s fine on the streets until i hit the freeway and in 5th or 6th gear. This happened out of nowhere while going home on the freeway. Haven’t had time to take it to a shop but hopefully i can take it in soon.
its coming from the back? are you sure its not the A/C whistle you're hearing? I;m not familiar with any squeaking issues coming from the rear on the FK8
@@Camhill182 I’m not so sure..you can hear it even when the AC is off. it can be so many things..i dont have IG or else i would share a video of the noise with you. Hopefully it’s just an easy fix.
I noticed your hubs have some rust build up. What I do to fight any vibrations, is hit the hub with a wire brush to make sure the surface is as flat as possible.
Clean around the hub everything that makes contact with the wheels and bolts and also the wheels from the back with a drill with the wire brush and remove all corrosion from both sides of the wheels and hubs 👍

I put the same sized on my oem 2021 type r rims but the tires were some other brand so they were on and I was getting a bad vibration and I did what u did i got them checked even went to the Honda dealer n they told me it the tires. Come to find out I didn’t have the correct Y rating that one two once they took my tires off there was a huge tear inside the tire like if the tire was close to ripping off but in the inside. When the tire place took my tire off they said this can be warranted by bad manufacturing. Just take your tire off from the rim and look for any type of rip or something that shows the tire not being one solid piece
Oof. Idk what else it could be. Maybe it’s definitely a defect in the tire. Hopefully it works out! I have the same tires and size on my Type R and don’t have that issue
I had an issue when using the metal rings on my Honda accord when I needed to use my spare tire. The metal rings we're pretty stuck on there and very difficult to get off due to the rust that builds up on the Hub under the metal rings.
When I bought my TE’s from Vivid the rings were a part of what I needed for the wheels with centre caps and lugs. Also I’ve used Michelin’s many times on many cars never had an issue. My Type R has PS4S’s and they were mint when Honda dealership put them on with no issues since. I did have one issue with an old cup tire once but Michelin replaced it right away through warranty. But again all wheel work has always been done at the dealership. They even put a new guide on the tire machine before putting the new tires on the new TE’s.
All I know Cameron is I have the same tires as you with Enkei wheels, I ordered them from a shop that does truck modifications and cars. If I have those rings, no one told me lol, also I haven’t had any vibration issues.
Verify you don't have any engine mount damaged or a axel that is getting damaged, any of those could cause vibrations. The tires could be damaged too, so don't get frustrated that can be solved.
My 21 Accord 2.0T Touring will not tell me how much pressure is in the tires either. I believe this is called indirect monitoring where no sensors are mounted to the wheels and will only illuminate the TPMS light if too low or high pressure is present
I had a friend with 9th gen civic who only cared about looks with zero knowledge of wheels and suspension. slammed with cut lowering springs, aftermarket ebay wheels with no hub rings and using oem lug nuts on aftermarket wheels. he would drive it like this everywhere bouncing, scraping and bottoming out, vibrates the whole car even at just 45 mph. cracked his rims so he would loss air every couple days, some of his lug studs broke off and some are cross threaded with just 2.5 - 3 lug nuts holding some of the wheels. I tried to advice him of what little that I know but he just didnt care as long as his car looks good regardless of how it performed. he eventually sold the car but I am surprised he didnt get to any accidents.
Hey Cam, if Vivian likes the Q8 she’ll like the Q7. As far as I’m aware they are the same chassis just different engine, roof line and suspension tuning.
I'm still on my last comment from other video you got scalloped tires .I got 2 sets of tires from tirerack scalloped tires were out of round. I stopped buying from them cause it is a pain to get reimbursed warranty wise and they sent 4 new tires.
Should get your wheels at Fitment industries I have got two pairs off them never had a problem specially with my type r I believe they have give you spec wheels once you add you’re car information in for your vehicle
Wow, tire rack didn’t know that your car needs the rings? They sent them on both wheel sets I got from them. I think they dropped the ball on this one. Btw, get a knee pad, it will save your knees in the long run.
Honestly I think it's a quality control thing with the tire manufacturers as of late. I'm having the same issue on a 24 Outback Wilderness that I threw some Falken Wildpeak Trails on last month. I've had them balanced twice, last time was road force balanced at the Subaru dealer. It's not a vibration in the steering wheel, but a pulsation in the floorboard and seats at 65-70 mph. Car had 300 miles on it when I swapped tires. I'm about to file a warranty claim with Tire Rack myself. Good Luck!
For sure. I went down an online tire conspiracy rabbit hole a couple weeks ago. LOL Apparently certain manufactures will source and produce tires from plants in different countries. Falken has a plant in Japan and Taiwan and the enthusiast's will seek out the Japanese variant because they historically have less issues than the Taiwanese. I'd imagine Michelin does the same. Tire Rack has such a huge reach in the market makes you wonder if, in order to maximize profit and keep prices competitive, they source their tires from the cheapest plant. It just sucks because in both our cases we're talking brand new wheels that we know damn well are most certainly true, so it automatically rules them out as the culprit. I feel like a lunatic when I return asking for another balance or rotation because it's still not right.
Wow Cam, I actually have RTX Valkyrie’s in my cart with Falken tires and will hold off. Like you said, you would think it’s just plug and play. BTW, your video was followed by a Tire Rack advertisement lol
I never use metal hub rings. They'll rust and if not cleaned regularly, will fuse with the wheel bore. I've had to take a hammer and chisel to them in the past.
Dude. THIS HAS BEEN MY LIFE SINCE BUYING MY 13 CIVIC. It has black enkei edr9s. Ive had the tire rebalanced twice they swear the rim isnt bent or anything. Mine isnt a type r or si or anything but idk wtf to do! Its so annoying.
I've been having the same issue for months ever since I got new wheels, I have Works and they claim they are already hub centric...re balanced twice and still small vibrations :/
First of all. That's not where you put a jack stand under the lug/rotor. That's not going to stop the car from falling and it will damage the rotor if it does. With the tires being out of balance there's a trick to pop the tires off the bead and rotate them 180 degrees on the rim and inflate them, then try and balance them again. Another thing that might be the problem is the alignment on the car is setup for the stock rims. Could maybe be affecting it those aren't the exact same size rims as stock are they?
The jack stand goes right next to the jack you lift the car with the jack and then slide the jack stand right next to the jack and then lower the jack so the car is on the jack stand.
Rotate the rear tires to the front and see if u can feel a major change in ur ride quality.. if not, then check the rear suspensions.. in my honest opinion small vibration like that i dont care about it cuz my 9th gen is on coilovers, nt03 wheels, rear camber arms, and sway bars.. no vibration for my 9 year old car.
Does she have to get an Suv? My wife has the Audi Rs3 hatch and she LOVES it! Super nice car, fun, spacious, good for the kids, dct transmission... Bit pricey but they retain their value better than the Q5
@nattpheomthawee5786 don't know a ton about BMW, but, I do like the X3 M.. But if he can, he should really try to steer clear of larger displacement engines, because trust me, I work in the energy sector, and I'm telling u, as things are progressing, gas will be unaffordable for most Americans in the years to come. And that is by design of our Government. Filling a big v6 or v8 will be brutal. I think the x3 comes in 2.0l, so that would be a nice option.
Dang Cam you just cant catch a break man. That sucks hopefully you can get that fixed soon. I had no idea about the road force or wheel rings. I got my wheels from tire rack as well though the shop contracted with them was Wheel Works which are decent. No issus with my aftermarket rims 😬.
Great now I’m a nervous wreck. I just bought way cheaper set of Enkei wheels for my FL5. Fitment Industries didn’t mention the hub size, but they specifically say the wheels I bought would fit and work on my CTR. I guess I will see soon enough.
Enkei is one of the most reputable wheel manufacturers. When you mention fitment they mean it as in your width/offset not your hub bore. You have to get the hub rings on your own, that’s why it’s always good to do research.
what wheels did you buy? you can look up the hub center bore diameter for those and also for the FL5. I bet the hub bore is the same on the FL5 as the FK8
@@Camhill182 Enkei TS-5. The centerbore is 72.6mm. I do believe the center hub of the FL5 is 64.1mm. If I buy center rings should they be specifically 72.6 to 64.1 fitment?
Weird that your wheels didnt come with the hug rings to begin with. I've ordered 2 sets of wheel and tires and its come with the new lugnuts and hubcentric rings. The two brands were Motegi and Focal. Nice that the problem is finally gone tho edit jk, continuing to watch the video LOL

Sometimes the aluminum with enough vibration can weld itself to the wheel or sometimes from heat cycles the expansion then contractions of diameters will squeeze the 'cheaper' aluminum into the wheel. I tried to advice him of what little that I know but he just didnt care as long as his car looks good regardless of how it performed. he eventually sold the car but I am surprised he didnt get to any accidents.
jeez. thats... disappointing to hear. what a goof
Will this be the same for the civic 10th gen si?
Which taillights are those?
Hey Cam, if Vivian likes the Q8 she’ll like the Q7. As far as I’m aware they are the same chassis just different engine, roof line and suspension tuning.
hey bro, what the lug nutt torque for oem 20 inch?
I'm still on my last comment from other video you got scalloped tires .I got 2 sets of tires from tirerack scalloped tires were out of round. I stopped buying from them cause it is a pain to get reimbursed warranty wise and they sent 4 new tires.
calling them as soon as Vivian takes the baby from me
Should get your wheels at Fitment industries I have got two pairs off them never had a problem specially with my type r I believe they have give you spec wheels once you add you’re car information in for your vehicle
Negative. Got my wheels for free
Acura RDX? 2023+ Lexus NX350 or higher trim?
That’s why Fitment Industries is the best to purchase wheels on the do all the fitment work for you
Check your exhaust as well. It could be that
Your comment doesn’t make sense and he even called you out on the next video. 😂
Wow, tire rack didn’t know that your car needs the rings? They sent them on both wheel sets I got from them. I think they dropped the ball on this one.
Btw, get a knee pad, it will save your knees in the long run.
You should never use an extension on the torque wrench . won’t give you an accurate torque settings.
I have the Polyurethane bushings and no problems. Metal on metal isn't always the best
Have you seen the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe? Definitely not as powerful as a jeep but looks like an awesome family SUV
Yeah i had to get the rings for my Te37s. Fit perfectly
Good Luck!
Good luck to you too! if you remember, please comment back here and let me know how that goes! I'll be calling them tomorrow as soon as they open
@@applejunkie83I'm pretty sure you're right about Where tires are made, Does make it a Difference.
You should use anti-seize on the hubrings
Wow Cam, I actually have RTX Valkyrie’s in my cart with Falken tires and will hold off. Like you said, you would think it’s just plug and play. BTW, your video was followed by a Tire Rack advertisement lol
Thank you for covering this. Do all cars need those hub centric rings or some fine without it?
If you buy aftermarket wheels that don’t share the same hub bore size as your vehicle then you should get them.
What brand did you get your lug nuts from
Rays
I've been having the same issue for months ever since I got new wheels, I have Works and they claim they are already hub centric...re balanced twice and still small vibrations :/
its the worst. I'm gonna throw stock wheels and tires on
Bro, add the links to those hub centric rings! A video on it and no links to them makes becomes way better with links.
I can’t believe when you mentioned you like Audis you didn’t bring up the RS3, I own a 2022 and boy is it a car
I do like that car too!
Didn’t put the jack under rotor
@@Camhill182that jack stand is under the rotor.
The jack stand goes right next to the jack you lift the car with the jack and then slide the jack stand right next to the jack and then lower the jack so the car is on the jack stand.
@@fraserlordly2432 the jack stand wasnt touching anything. I had it there becUse i was considering raising the car more, but didnt
@@Camhill182ok man I've seen some pretty dumb stuff in 17 years as a Technician.
Luckily when i got AM wheels for my car my boy is a manager at a tire shop and he told me about those hub rings
Rotate the rear tires to the front and see if u can feel a major change in ur ride quality.. if not, then check the rear suspensions.. in my honest opinion small vibration like that i dont care about it cuz my 9th gen is on coilovers, nt03 wheels, rear camber arms, and sway bars.. no vibration for my 9 year old car.
good idea
Damn, I didn’t even think about that on my STI. I only have super slight vibration which I assumed was normal. Gonna look only that honestly
Breaker bar looks like it works good lol. Are they making you work on Wednesday?
Audi is nice. Genesis GV70 would be better to save money and get more for your money.
We do like the Genesis GV70! Need to go test drive one. No, I probably wont work at all this week
they're still pretty expensive for the used ones because they're so new.
Imagine the tires are mounted on backwards? The inside of the tire is facing out?
Does she have to get an Suv? My wife has the Audi Rs3 hatch and she LOVES it! Super nice car, fun, spacious, good for the kids, dct transmission... Bit pricey but they retain their value better than the Q5
Put Bmw x3m on the list she might like it 😅
@nattpheomthawee5786 don't know a ton about BMW, but, I do like the X3 M..
You may have fucked up your tires by driving them with without the hub centric rings.
Basic 101 homie. Rings came with my wheels. Thanks to E-autosports.
94lbs.
Titan7 for the win. Challenge accepted by the most experienced tech.
What wheels did you get
@Mk7Albert They are from American Racing. I can't find them at the moment but they are similar to the AR907's but Black and silver.
The torque spec for the lug nuts is 95 ft lb, per Honda.
Its tires all day. with or without hub rings youre vibration wont change much
I'm calling Tire Rack first thing tomorrow to see if they will warranty them for me
@@Camhill182 I hope they hook ya up man
Great now I’m a nervous wreck.
@@chrissimmons9969 yes they should. As you saw in the video, I tried 64.1 to 73.1 and they didnt fit. So you need 64.1 to 72.6
I've just got some Enkie gt02c for my fk8 and also had rings.
It's running lovely and smoothly. Continental contact sport 7 tires all round.
Weird that your wheels didnt come with the hug rings to begin with. I've ordered 2 sets of wheel and tires and its come with the new lugnuts and hubcentric rings. The two brands were Motegi and Focal. Nice that the problem is finally gone tho
edit jk, continuing to watch the video LOL
Yo another Mainer?? No way. I'm near the Bangor area bro. I don't have an R but just a basic ass Ex hatch 😂 that's awesome that I saw the Maine plate
Man I hope you get it fixed before your trip
