At fifty-one I decided that I didn't want to die a monoglot, and I chose to learn Spanish, as it's a fast-growing language. It's been a lot of work, but 2 3/4 years later of studying online only I could get by well in a Spanish-speaking country, though understanding native speakers is still a challenge for me. Old dogs can learn new tricks :)
En español decimos: "loro viejo no aprende a hablar" Pero te digo una cosa, debes seguir practicando, y verás que lo vas a lograr. Saludos desde Colombia.
No matter what words I use, they won't be enough to describe how awesome this talk is. It is thought provoking, mind blowing, descriptive, full of examples and interesting comparisons. I am a native Serb and I aspire to be trilingual (if that term exists:)). I speak Serbian, English and French.
Definatelly it's the best TED talking I've ever seen. He 's a great speaker and also he talks with his soul and deep feelings about the issue. It really is a thought provoking! Congratulations !
Merci beaucoup! :) Even though English is spoke by many people around the world, being belingual is still a huge thing for us french people (contrary to north Europe country citizens). School teach grammar basics but it is our responsability to learn English by ourselves in order to fully understood the language. This kind of presentation is a strong motivating factor to keep on! As long as I will be fluent in English, I definitely want to learn Italian and a language from an other continent
It is never too late to learn another language. That's true in a way, but nevertheless learning another language is extremely time-consuming, and many people don't have that much time. I would recommend to people who are native English speakers to learn another language, but to choose one that is easier to learn than national languages, that is to learn Esperanto. It will give you all the benefits in a shorter time. You can study Esperanto free of charge on the very good website Duolingo. Already well over half a million people are doing just that.
Esperanto has culture and people...in similar amounts of time? I don't believe that, the international language is a constructed language and it is easy to learn. Not like national languages.
Honestly, you don't need that much time if you keep your frequencies on check. @kuroichan101 is totally right in saying 30 minutes a day is enough for language learning. Whoever says they don't have 30 minutes a day is just clearly making up excuses.

I am trying to learn French, and if you want to learn Vietnamese, we can contact with together :)
good luck with Italian it has literally so much grammar for no reason at all, some that we don't even use!
I really liked the way he described learning another language.
"Die Grenze meiner Sprache sind die Grenzen meiner Welt"
Great talks ! It is never too later to learn a new language.
Thanks a lot, you really inspired me to learn languages.. I love you so much.
Thanks a lot, I like very much your words

It's full of mistakes though.
Have you read Babel?
@@thelobsterperson not yet!

This guy is just awesome.
Stimmt. Es ist nicht so spät zu ein andere Sprache lernen.
Das schafft man 💪🏾
Learning another language to become a bilingual, or a trilingual, speaker is one of the best time investments you can make in your life.
Thanks!
I loved his sense of humour!!!
8:40 it happens here in Brasil alll the time
Best TED talk I've ever watched! Merci beaucoup
There will be no discontentment in life if we
see that all faults are ours and never others .
Merci à vous aussi
I'm your fan just now
If you speak two languages you are two human beings
If you speak three or more languages you are absolutely 3 or4 human beings. And so on and so forth
Poderiam colocar legenda em português e em outros idiomas

You can learn an actual language with an actual culture and an actual people instead, like Norwegian, in similar amounts of time.

honestly if youe consistent in your studies everyday, even if its for 30 minutes a day you can learn something.

Finding speakers of Esperanto is pretty hard. So "all" the benefits in a shorter time I wouldn't say is necessarily true.
Great
Counting how many time he mention *indonesian* 🇮🇩
Well, i am Vietnamese and sometimes i still feel it challenge too 🤣
My faucet is dripping and been dripping for months. Face palm.
