  • In this month's meeting of our Mid-Lakes Orchid Society, we are fortunate to have Dr. Ron McHatton and he is a judge for the Central Florida AOS. It was a great topic, Orchid media and how to repot in lava rock, fine bark and moss.

I like your new tagline- "Let's keep growing this channel and orchids together". What a fascinating video to watch over and over again. Dr. Ron McHatton is a very down to earth speaker and he knows his orchids. Thank you Vicky and Sergio for making these educational videos possible

Informative lecture!! Many people are very afraid to change potting media, especially with orchid, because they might die, but some media might work better! Thank you for recording a wonderful, educational lecture so people can learn more about these uncommon medias😊

Very informative. The only thing is that Orchiata is different from other barks in that it’s coated with dolomite which is beneficial for orchids. So when you soak the bark, you are washing off these nutrients.

What are your thoughts on using coco husk chunks for moisture control instead of spagnum? I live west pf Seattle in Port Orchard. Im growing Cattelya, Catasetum and a few assorted things inside by a 6' window that gets great sun. I use a good humidifier.
I make my own firbark.... sterilize in the oven...same for the lava rock.
    55 orchids and counting.

Hi, we hear that Coco husk is also great. Like Mr. McHatton said, "You can pretty much grow orchids on anything, as long as you keep that balance between air, water, and humidity. If you are up to 50 plants, kudos to you, keep doing what you are doing. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
