In the A380, the pilots bed is directly in the cockpit area, very convenient.
No, I been in there, it’s not there
@@ttsps1155 It's an airline option. There can be crew rests in the cockpit area on the A380, A350, and 747.

I was lucky enough the crew allowed me to rest in one, on an Air Canada connection flight. My throwing up, dry heaving, that comes with my horrid pressure-type migraine, made that decision pretty easy for them. I couldn’t thank them enough for giving me a pitch black “pod” to lay in.
I wish... when I was like 10 on a moscow to dc flight in a similar condition the best I got was an extra economy seat to lie sideways on lol
That's very very cool, and what a fantastic idea, thanks for the heads up next time I need to take a long flight I'll just pretend that I have pressure sickness and be able to sleep comfortably all the way to my destination.
👍👍😅😅
@@jonny555ive I know you're probably joking, but in reality it seems like any time some exception is made for people who really need it, other people swoop in to start abusing this kindness to achieve some preceived loophole. Then things are changed so that people who actually need it are not allowed to since people can't just be kind without assuming someone will take advantage of that kindness. I believe people always jumping for these loopholes have no respect for others, whether it be the people being kind enough to accommodate the liar or the people who will no longer be able to benefit from the situation because people are abusing the loophole. It's selfish in my opinion. It saddens me that so many services that help people have been removed people people couldn't just be respectful. Not everything needs to be catered towards you. Just because there could be a loophole, that doesn't mean it's right to abuse it for your personal gain.
Again, I acknowledge that you are probably just joking, so this isn't really directed at you specifically. It just saddens me generally that we do see so many services and kindness to strangers be withheld because we can't trust people to respect those services or exceptions and it just creates more probablems.
@@KatzeWireNo. he's a douche bag. Call it what it is. 👌🏽
@@jonny555ive it’s not pressure sickness, that will get your flight automatically diverted to nearest airport, and you booted off for faking a life threatening sickness.
My migraine’s are a form only brought on by excess pressure in the fluid surrounding my brain, *and is super easy to diagnose any fake* As the back of your eyes won’t be enflamed & flattened from the optic nerves’ reaction.
"They use them to sleep, or just relax and decompress". The decompression part sounds a bit dangerous on a plane, don't you think?

"The entrances are pretty hidden to passengers." The area can be both restricted and relatively hidden, bud.
@@deviantmoore9744 No, no they are not hidden to passengers. You can see where the doors to those compartments are.
@@ShiningDarknesbecause they are hidden behind those doors?
@@AcidGambit419 That isn't what hidden means. Hidden would be like the hatch under the entryway carpet that is the access point to some backup systems that you probably didn't know about (because it is hidden)
Your bedroom isn't hidden from guests just because it is behind the door of your bedroom, doors do not hide things, they keep things from being viewed. But I wouldn't expect a dunce like you to understand the nuance of that statement. Hidden and "blocked vision" are not the same thing, because connotation is a thing. Hidden may literally mean to keep out of sight but _intent_ matters. Closing a door to block vision but everyone knows what is behind the door and closing a door but nobody knows what is behind the door are two very different concepts.
I'll give one more big one: blind people can't see anything, by your logic everything is a hidden place to them. If I blindfold you while you are outside, is the entire world hidden of can you just not see it?
Context matters is what I'm getting at. You aren't allowed into the cockpit after the exit door closes. The pilots are not hiding in the cockpit, you just can't see them. You know they are in there; the crew rest areas are the exact same thing. It really isn't that hard to comprehend.
It is a restricted area, not a hidden area.
I knew about the crew rest areas on newer widebodies, but definitely wondered how they made it work on longer-range narrowbodies.
I doubt they would have them on narrowbodies. There just isn't enough room for that and it wouldn't really make sense. In addition, rest quarters are usually on Ultra Long hauls (more than 16 hours). There aren't any narrowbodies capable of that. Yet...
@@StallionFX1 exactly it just so happens that the smaller airplanes don't travel far enough to need sleeping areas.
I believe 6 hr -10 flight is the max for small body airplane
@limbeboy7 depending on the payload, route, and seating configuration of that particular A321NEO, 6 - 10 hours is an easy feature. If a connection from a major hub to a small island and/or airport had a huge demand, maybe, it might be profitable. But I still doubt airlines would utilize a rest quarters. At that point, might as well stick to the widebodies.
@@StallionFX1 A321 XLR are capable of ~11 hrs non stop though, quite close to that. I believe it can be more if you have more of these container-type fuel tanks installed in place of cargo storage - it can be regulated by aircraft operator between flights, not sure how much time and paperwork it requires to make such change though.
In such case it'd make sense to have such rest areas for crews.
The US airline & cargo fleet is still liable to be mobilized for war. I would guess they have special crew setups for those sardine flights?
One time I got sick in a flight and blacked out and had a seizure and they got me clearance to lay down in one of the crew resting areas for the flight attendants. They were extremely nice.
While boarding the plane, I was alarmed to be greeted by the captain in his jammies and night cap. But my fears subsided when I saw his co-pilot, Mr. Bear, in full uniform.

It goes to show how massive these things are for there to be enough space for hidden rooms. Planes have been around long enough to be taken for granted but when you actually think about it, it's amazing that humans have figured out how to get something this gigantic to fly.
You are definitely right about flying has been around long enough that people take it for granted... I'm born in the late seventies and I can still remember when it was a treat and a privilege to go on a plane and we would actually dress nicely or at least look nice even uncomfortable clothes. On newer Boeing aircraft, the crew compartment is dragged behind the plane with a rope. This saves them having to wait until it detaches from the plane itself.
Im a retired Delta employee. The widebody aircraft have those compartments. They're very cramped but they're comfortable enough.
Thanks for the clarification 💯
I worked on the 767 and MD11 at Delta on the international concourse. They retrofitted some with a "pull out" set of bunks that sat right behind the flight deck. It seemed to be a horrible failure because they were like little coffins and a royal pain! lol! Shortly after that they added a small room between business and economy class that was a much better solution.

They autopilot almost every flight and have for a while. There are always pilots in the seats in case they have to take control
On flights where a nap is needed, they have more than two pilots.
Still the plane crews would prefer an airbus because it doesn’t fall out of the air….
An Airbus flies over my work a few times per week. It's so huge that it looks like it's moving too slowly to fly and it's far quieter than the regular 737 jets (or what ever the regular jets are now).
