  • Hello!! Welcome back to my RUclips channel.
In this video, we will explore more on these two terms (Ubuntu and Black Tax) so as to fully understand and apply them correctly. So Ubuntu, a deeply rooted African philosophy, emphasizes the interconnectedness of humanity and the principle that "I am because we are." It celebrates community, shared responsibility, and mutual upliftment as foundational values. In the Zambian context, Ubuntu reminds us that individual success is intertwined with the well-being of our families and communities. It encourages us to see ourselves as part of a collective effort toward growth and development.
Black Tax, often misunderstood, is an extension of Ubuntu. While the term "Black Tax" doesn't sit well with me, I will use it in this case to express my point. It refers to the financial and emotional responsibility that individuals, particularly those who achieve economic stability, feel toward their families and communities. Far from being a burden, Black Tax represents an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of those who paved the way for our success. It is a way of giving back, ensuring that the support we once received extends to others in need. This financial obligation often comes naturally as a way to uplift others too.
As a Zambian and a firm believer of collective progress, I believe Black Tax is not entirely a bad thing, especially for a country like ours, classified as lower-middle-income by the United Nations. To break the chains of poverty, we must embrace a sense of responsibility toward uplifting our family members and communities. This support creates opportunities for education, economic growth, and self-reliance.
Many who have achieved great success today are products of others' sacrifices. When one person succeeds and reinvests in their family, the entire family benefits, setting a foundation for future generations to become independent and self-sufficient. This cycle of giving and empowerment ultimately fosters sustainable development within families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
That said, I recognize that there are cases where family members can become too demanding. As a wise person in that position, you must come to honest terms with what you are willing to give and what is beyond your capacity. Setting clear boundaries ensures that you do not get overwhelmed by others' expectations while still contributing meaningfully.
While the journey to collective prosperity is long, I firmly believe that through Ubuntu and the practice of Black Tax, we can create a better future. By supporting each other as a country and a community, we lay the groundwork for generational progress. With time, dedication, and shared effort, we will reach a point where every family has the resources and independence to thrive.
