Just another great day to be alive. Forego leading the post parade and betting the Great Seattle Slew that day over Affirmed!

This video DRIPS with greatness!! Forego, The Slew, Affirmed...all on the same racetrack on the same day? Wow.
    .
And I see Equistory's comment below. That's quite something, too. :-)

Thanks so much, CF. These videos of yours are treasures.

Very nice post indeed wow Forego...leading an awesome group of horse flesh. Affirmed was my horse as well in here..perhaps Slew owes this one to Alydar..for the rivalry certainly took it's toll ..what a shame to let Slew get out to such an easy lead fractions of 24 47 with no challenge. Take nothing from Slew..truly a great horse...i get excited just thinking back to this race..thanks again for put it up!!

Wow cf , this footage is absolutely fantastic ! What a thrill to get to watch this video of the much -respected Forego , the great Seattle Slew and Affirmed . I love the analogy drawn between Affirmed and Borg :D
Thank you so much my dear friend . Enjoyed it !

Yes, it would have been a bigger race had Alydar been in it. I would have loved to see The Slew beat him too. Seattle Slew essentially won this race because he was much the best, regardless of the first quarter in 24. There wasn't the slightest possibility Affirmed would have ever beaten him. And Slew was in the center of the track all the way, which made his race even more impressive.

To think how much bigger this race would have been if Alydar had not been injured a week before this took place. Seattle Slew essentially won this race with a :24 first quarter. Affirmed would have had to have been the greatest three year old of all time to overcome that as Slew then went 1:21 4/5 for the remaining seven-eighths.

Ahh. We'll probably never see one Triple Crown winner again, let alone two.

With all due respect to Affirmed and his accomplishments, he sort of looked like a filly with his mane braided and upper tail wrapped compared to the fire-breathing, war-dancing Seattle Slew. There was no way Slew would ever let Affirmed get in front of him...in this race or any other. And I'm reminded why I disliked Jimmy The (jerk) Greek after hearing him on the video.

Slew owes nothing to Alydar. Affirmed was a speed horse; he could have gone head and head...his connections knew better. He was light, fit (as described in the post parade) and ready to run the race of his life. Slew ran the first quarter of the Marlboro Cup in an even 24, not 24.47..Why didn't Affirmed challenge him early?. I got so sick of reading back then that Affirmed was (perceived to be) the better horse. We know better. if Afirmed was tired from his exertions, why did they race him?
