as others have doubtless said, the way confusion works is it goes away when someone is hit. so they were confused, did a random action (like using your items), and then hit by the enemy to remove the confusion, before you noticed the confusion symbol. so it isn't exactly 'short term' confusion, it's that you didn't realize that confusion is cured whenever someone is hit. that's the way it has worked in final fantasy since at least final fantasy 4.
When in mushroom rock especially and facing those red elementals, it really helps to have the heart of flame garment grid equipped since you'll just be getting healed from the attacks since the auto ability is fire eater. That's what I do.
Those early Tonberries have 9999 HP so you're in for a long fight no matter what. For me, the best way to deal with them is to turn all 3 girls into the Warrior class and make sure that all 3 of them learned Sentinel. During the battle, wait for and see which of the three girls the Tonberry is stalking towards. Once he has made his move, have his victim immediately defend herself using Sentinel while the other two attack the Tonberry for free. Then just rinse and repeat the cycle By doing this you should only lose 1 HP every time the Tonberry stabs you with his knife
50:41 - 59:36...that has to be one of the most durable and entertaining tonberry experiences I've ever seen in my life GOOD LORDY 🤪! That whole fight of him smiling with those eyes and waddling around, giving the whole "...and YOU get a knife, and YOU get a knife..." experience was priceless 🤣😂! I don't know how you can keep a Tonberry in your room after that experience LMAO!! S-tier content as always Kasta, top-notch ✌😄
Tip: You can shorten the dressphere animation in the config. First time for a new dressphere it will show the full animation. 10:38 To know what abilities do during battle hover over the ability and the Help text will help you 25:53 You're becoming an expert in Final Fantasy status ailments and its treatments! It'll come in handy as you go through the series. 59:26 That look of relief! That was one beefy Tonberry. 1:27:28 I believe I focused on one dressphere at a time. At least until I got the abilities I wanted. 1:35:28 Don't worry, I don't think there was a way to jump up from the Mushroom Rock ravine. 2:23:24 There's a piece of road under Djose that is also a part of Mushroom Rock. Easy to forget to explore.
The reason you kept coming out of it was you got hit. If you are "confused" (circling stars above your head) and either you or someone else hits your confused character, you are no longer confused. Interesting you finished X and never noticed it 😀
I enjoy the fact that you take the time to observe everything thoroughly! This game brings back core memories and thanks for showing the world how good FFX-2 was!
The tone is different, but it makes sense since the people of Spira don’t have to worry about Sin coming back for the first time. I do get why some fans prefer to keep the first FFX as its own self-contained thing, but it’s cool FFX-2 is available for those who want to experience Spira after.
*vague spoilers for X-2 for anyone who hasn’t beaten it* As someone who is a little critical of FFX-2, I think I would have liked the sequel a lot more (even with the tonal change) if it didn’t necessarily undo what FFX had set up with what was supposed to be at stake. Gameplay is great, story/characters get pretty campy, but I just wish it didn’t reverse course on what was at stake in the first game.
@@gigandas-3685 tbf, that can be considered a "secret" ending of sorts, since you will never unlock THAT ending without playing the game perfectly with a guide. But I agree with that sentiment kinda.
I would have enjoyed it more if they toned down the "anime". The tone can be lighter without terrible writing. I still think the game is fun and the story has good moments. But some of this dialogue is... ugh. The Flanderization of Rikku is one example.
@Renoistic yeah everyone always complains about Yuna's character in X-2 but they turned Rikku into an airhead when she was wise beyond her years because she had to as a young Albhed girl. Like she could go toe to toe with Wakka and Auron in disagreements
IDK if anyone told you but, you can hit multiple targets with MOST spells by clicking on the "left" button when chose an enemy target or the "right" button when chosing an ally target. The spell will deal half the damages but will hit every single target of the same "team".
In terms of dresspheres, long term you’ll have a lot more, so each characters can have their own set they specialize in separate from the others. So it makes sense not to try to have them master all the initial ones simultaneously, but start with 1 or 2 and then by the time they master them you’ll have a bigger selection to choose from. Eventually each character can have a handful they master on their own unique garment grid setups.
in the several times i have played this game, i always aim to get 2 specific as quick as i can, but it is always fun to watch her playthroughs and see how she goes. also i am looking forward for future episodes, especially well, what i consider the best part, give or take, half way through
"I dont wanna tell him 'Enough, enough!'" is so real. Accidentally sending Maechen on a historical rant and not wanting to cut him off is quintessential Spira
When playing, I've always been obsessed with mastering every dressphere. It helps that it doesn't take that much grinding, too (at least, not as much as one might expect). Super satisfying to fill out a dressphere's skills.
Very nice episode! You're really growing into the combat I see. When you like the gameplay system where you learn abilities from equipment, you might like the JRPG Lost Odyssey as well. :)
I've been thinking that I'm propably never gonna have the energy to replay this game, even though I think it really deserves it. So here's a cheers to you playing and us getting to enjoy it in the best way!
Final fantasy games are my favourite games ever and IV been waiting for someone to play ffx-2 so thank you for doing this. It's a joy to watch you play this game and got a few tips you can auto sort your items on your items menu.
2:47:30 You did 2 trigger happy's back to back but if you time them to hit right after each other the chain will grow more, and generally timing your strikes to hit in succession is good! I've only played through this one twice so I'm excited to re-visit this with you!
Just a few combat tips. Confusion is cured from physical hits. So if an enemy does a physical attack or you hit your own party member with a physical attack, then that ends confusion. Magic attacks won't remove confusion. The second tip is whatever dress sphere you turn into gives you different stats. So when, for example, Yuna is a Blackmage, she has lower health but higher MP, which means if you are casting heals or other spells a lot, do that as a caster. If you turn Yuna into a Warrior, she will have high HP and strength but low MP.
I like how non judgemental you are and basically enjoy a variety of games. The abilities level up system is the most similar to ff8 which is also my fav ff!
loving the playthrough so far, its great to see spira is alove and well! :D dont worry about there not being things to do in the world in later chapters. Every time you start a new chapter the world kind of "resets" in that new treasures appear, monsters get stronger and new missions and experiences become available. so your natural curiosity of looking everywhere before continuing will definitely pay off as you are more likely to fully experience the game! (oh and dont forget in the calm lands there is also the cavern of the stolen faith where you found Yojimbo in FFX)
I’ve had this game on my list for a while. Seeing how much you seem to enjoy it-I think I’m going to start my play through soon. Thank you for the good vibes.
FFX-2 and Parasite Eve going on simultaneously, the retro rpg fans are eating good over here. Plus hearing Kasta talk like a hypello might be the cutest thing ever. And the look on her face when the chocobo entered the fight and she thought she had to fight it was just pure devastation. 😭
So the Tonberry fight is why this episode is so long. Fantastic work as always Maggie. Glad to see you're enjoying yourself so far. It's so nice to see what everyone is up to in the 2 years that passed. Keep up the amazing work. On a completely unrelated note, I was cast in a play and one of the main characters is named Maggie. This is irrelevant to the video I know.
To your question asked about how we play the game. I usually focus each girl around jobs that match the strengths of their accessories and garment grids, like having all magic based dress spheres on healing wind, adding cure to three magic classes that have lots of MP and high magic so the cure gives more HP. Then I'll have someone specialized into physical attck power and maybe a grid that allows a status effect on touch. Last is usually a theif that later goes into other non-magic support dress spheres to round things out. I've been really impressed how you keep up with stealing things, money and items can make you really ahead of the power curve in this game.
I played this game on launch and I couldn't tell you how my first playthrough went gameplay wise! I bet that I focused on getting each girl mastering her own dressphere though. While I don't know if that's what I did that definitely feels like how I'd have done it back then. I got the normal ending on my first playthrough. One thing I do remember though, whenever I got a new dresspehere I wasted no time in seeing the change animation for all three girls! You're doing great in your playthrough! Keep it up and keep having fun!!!
Any more comments I make are gonna just be as replies to muh own comments. You asked how AP works. The short answer is you get xp from defeating enemies and bonus AP from using skills/abilities of a dressphere while using that dressphere. You don't get AP from using abilities from a Garment Grid. Example, using Cure because of a Garment Grid while as anything other than White Mage. I also think you don't get AP from using Items, but I could be wrong about that one. And for some reason I remember the standard Attack button doesn't give extra AP either. So basically, you want defeat lots of enemies and use lots of Skills/Abilities to get AP quickly. The best skills/abilities to use are the ones that cost 0 MP.
I've been replaying this and having SO much fun with the combat. Playing it blind again so as not to get too overpowered and to just have fun and enjoy the combat. There are so many ways to play it - you can min-max or be flexible. I got the Pain as Gunner to max the chains, then Yuna between Black Mage/Warrior/Dark Knight for BIG timing damage, and Rikku as either Songstress/White Mage for buffs and healing. It's so good!
If you just have one character escape a battle then you won't get a game over if the remaining two get wiped. You can just have the two that are K.O.ed revived after the battle by the escapee.
Love your strategy realization at the end! Excited to see you try more things! If Rikku’s Thief is that core to your strategy, you could place it in the middle of her current grid so that she can always change to it from anywhere. What do you think?
It is different. I was one of the haters at one point until I delve deeper into the battle and job system. It's simply amazing. It's also one of the reasons why I love FF5.
You playthrough of FF X-2 has inspired me I am actively playing through along with you. Quick tip about things the game doesn't tell you. Your whole stat spread changes with every different dressphere you have equipped. So for instance Warrior has very high HP Strength en Defense but very low MP, magic, magic defense and black mage has the literal complete opposite. When you get a new dressphere it's a good idea just to have a quick look and familiarize yourself with how your stats are going to look when you change into that role. Also the type of ability you use also determines how long it takes for you to able to perform your next action for example trigger happy from the gunner dressphere is great chain ability but it has one of the longest recharge time in the whole game.
Nice to see you getting to grips with the combat system. It is pretty frantic and can catch you out later on if your taking too long to decide your next move. This is the con when playing with the Active Time Battle system. just a couple of pointers, (IF WRONG PLEASE SOMEONE CORRECT ME) this game was designed to be ran through twice, you will likely find out taking on certain enemies you are just not prepared one bit. The stars circling was confusion. Despite being similar to Berserk where they will act out on there own, confusion will use anything on anyone. get rid of it via remedy or be a physical attack (friendly fire works a treat here). Also, the characters on some dress spheres do have individual outfits and weapons (see how many you can identify from X), where some character animations actually take longer to execute than others. Be up to you to determine which character is more effective in what dress sphere.
Correct, your characters will stop being confused/asleep if attacked, and sometimes your characters get hit very soon after getting confused/sleeped so the status icon disappears before you even notice it. Confusion is very noticeable when your characters start randomly using high value items in battle.
You would've received the Black Tabard Garment Grid had you completed the mission. That's why you save your game before a mission so that you can replay the mission & get that perfect score.
I just recently discovered your channel and have been watching your first experience with FFX! Looking forward to jumping right to this afterwards. Don't mind the hate you may see for this game. It's still great fun and worth it in my opinion. X is my all time favorite and I would really enjoy seeing you revisit it again someday with HD Remaster (and trying to get Platinum) 😈
Don’t worry about the description for Bevelle. That’s just Buddy being uneasy about New Yevon. Btw it’s only the Hotspots that show from the start of a chapter and Hotspots that appear from clearing them progress the story. Hot spots that appear from doing other missions, such as Bikanel becoming a Hotspot from interviewing with Gippal, are safe. Btw certain locations have exclusive scenes/rewards and completion points in some chapters for visiting them BEFORE they become Hotspots. No Ch1 Bikanel is not one of those.
The Publicity Campaigns and Matchmaking for the guy’s son last the whole game and can be done every chapter. Iirc the only difference between the 2 companies is item rewards and which minigame are available to play in the Calm Lands. You are not locked into either company and can switch any time at the Calm Lands with a reduction in publicity by about half. I think depending on how many women you catfish *er*, I mean *court* for the young man determines the reward you receive from his father.
Percentage of Dressphere abilities learned is based on the AP required for each ability to be learned, not the amount of abilities learned. The percentage jumping by a large margin is because you learned an ability that takes a lot of AP to learn. You earn 1 AP for each girl when you kill a single fiend, no matter what. You gain one additional AP every time you use an ability other than Attack. Early game farming is just spamming attack until you have new job abilities, then using those abilities over and over in battle. This also works for buffs like Focus and Cheer, which stack up to a maximum of 10 (some abilities give multiple stacks when used, but this means less uses until they’re ineffective). Casting buffs that are already maxed don’t give anymore AP until the next battle unless an enemy dispels them. Some abilities that are free like a White Mage’s Pray always give AP and can be used repeatedly (though Pray only gives AP if there are party members to heal, Praying with everyone at full health gives you nothing). That said, if there’s nothing else for your WM to do they should always be using Pray for free AP.
WOOOOO!!! long video!! you are enjoying this in the same way i did! the follow up after everything just feels good to hear and learn about!! the combat is the worst. i miss FFX turn based magic lol
A fiend will oversoul if you have killed certain about of its same type (ex: a Flan Azul might oversoul if you have killed a certain number of Flans). Oversouled fiends have different drops, steals and, bribes from the regular version but increased stats and possibly moves they don’t otherwise use. Killing an Oversouled fiend resets that fiend type back to normal and you’ll have to kill more to get them to Oversoul again. You can farm useful items or gil from them by using Steal, Bribe, etc and (when successful) flee from battle. The next time you encounter that fiend type they will be Oversouled since you did not kill them.
The blue bullet abilities that you couldn't figure out are enemy skills that you can learn while being a gun mage. Example Fire breath. Remember all the skills Khimari used in the first one...? You could have learned blaster from the Couerl on the Calm Lands. You have to have gun mage in, that person has to get hit by the ability to learn it- VERY IMPORTANT. So to learn White wind and Mighty guard, you have to confuse the enemy and it will use it on you. Most enemies you want to learn from won't do it unless their HP is low enough. So throw a bomb core or item to get its HP down.
The blue bullets abilities you can learn are - seed cannon, fire breath, stone breath, absorb, blaster, mighty guard, bad breath, white wind, supernova, cry in the night - from Mega Tonberry. Some can only be learned ONE time from ONE time enemy boss fights like Drill shot, Mortar and Annihilator. You also have 1000 needles, Heaven's cataract (learned from the fiends on Calm Lands that turn you to stone.) And Storm cannon from the armored fiend you found on Thunder plains, that was originally inside Sin. Now to make things easier some of these can be fought in Shinra's simulation on the ship, and learned there, thankfully. But this was not part of the original game. So yeah, this was a major pain in the ass to get them all. In order to cofuse the enemy that gives Mighty guard and white wind - you have to use Dark Knight or Lady luck dress sphere - should have both in chapter 3. Dark Knight has the confuse ability- or you can use Tantalize as Lady Luck. Both will confuse the enemy.
Im pretty sure for that tobli mission if you protect all the cargo i think you get a circlet as a bonus. But you can buy them im shops anyway, so no biggie 😊

It is different. I was one of the haters at one point until I delve deeper into the battle and job system. It's simply amazing. It's also one of the reasons why I love FF5.
Every battle is a fashion show
Another great ep!
The voice of Shinra is Bobby Hill
You have no idea how much I love this battle system, just watching you play is so addictive! ❤
Keep up the good work, Kasta!
Can’t wait for you to play FF15 someday! (Just make sure to play the Royal Edition) 😝♥️ love this so far 🎉
Correct, your characters will stop being confused/asleep if attacked, and sometimes your characters get hit very soon after getting confused/sleeped so the status icon disappears before you even notice it.
Confusion is very noticeable when your characters start randomly using high value items in battle.
If anyone thinks Yaibal sounds familiar, his V.A. also did Robin from Teen Titans.
time to immerse myself into another kasta video
Confuse hits beyond the 4th wall? Daaaaaaaamn.
You would've received the Black Tabard Garment Grid had you completed the mission. That's why you save your game before a mission so that you can replay the mission & get that perfect score.
17:00 if youre addicted to that the feeling of crisis core reunion would be crazy lol. That system is even more gambling.
You're going to have fun watching that.. I did that last week.
Fun fact: FFVIIR battle system was inspired by FFXIII(also the only FF that you won't find on the PS4/5) which in turn was inspired by FFX-2.
I have never played this game but Toblis voice acting feels very nostalgic for some reason
Might be a good idea if you get Yuna to learn Warrior/Dark Knight
Rikku to learn Berserker/White Mage
Paine to learn Samurai/Black Mage
this game is good! i love it
Not "Macadamia woods" 😆
I see Paine is gonna be the new Wakka :D
Tonberry was my first traumatic death on ffx-2 😂
2:41:10 laughs in red chocobo
What a old scholar says to Yuna sounds like something we heard before don't you think?🤔
WOOOOO!!! long video!! you are enjoying this in the same way i did! the follow up after everything just feels good to hear and learn about!! the combat is the worst. i miss FFX turn based magic lol
Kastaclysm Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
no you were right it was confusion the party had; but when then the character that has confusion gets attacked it loses the negative status
It is cute you read Cayote "Kayowt". No judgement 🙂
As a man, I remember when I was a teenager and doing the "find a wife" mission, thinking to myself Like... WHY? WHO APPROVE THIS? TT_TT
The publicity one is even worst tho, why not make a flyer guys? 😅😂
@poisonarrow658 they even make their business surrounded by creatures who can kill all their customers. Now that's a choice. Hahahaha.
Your content is superb Maggie! I don’t know how you do but you can certainly pull it off! You’re awesome and the game play is astounding!
I really wish youd play 12 and 15 too. Theyre both pretty cool games.
You notice how you have more potions in your inventory than you buy? I feel like this game is very generous with potions from battles. 😁
Item hunter from the thief dressphere is helping her out a lot! 😂😅
That Tonberry fight was hype but it sucks that beating him barely did any good 😭
