Sonu’s singing this as a tribute to his best friend (Ajay Jhingran) who’s also the lyricist of this song who, at the time of this video, died very recently, that’s the little speech he gives at the beginning. Which is why the meaning of the song also fits perfectly with that contemplative, philosophical theme of “should I live, is it worth the pain if there are little joys in life too, or should I just die?” As you’ve figured, this song means so much to Sonu as it’s his song in the sense that he sang it, and he is the original singer too, but his best friend wrote the song, and this particular performance has so much pain and emotion behind it that comes through so beautifully because his best friend died. I love this version so much because it’s so gorgeous in its simplicity, and the humility that’s also expressed in the tribute to his friend is so lovely. The original version of this song doesn’t have this level of emotion behind it. The pain here is turned into such exquisite art.
The actual tribute is of the song Chalki Chalki Chandini Main, one of the Song from Sonu's song from the album Classically Mild written by Ajay Jhingran, the song you hear before abhi mujhme kahin and abhi mujhme kahi is written by different lyricist, not sure but I think Amitabh Bhattacharya
This song is originally from movie Agneepath.... that literally means Path of Fire. In the movie, this song describes the feelings of hero who finally meets his younger sister after many years as he left home at tender age to avenge his father's murderer. After leaving home and living whole life in hardship, he thinks of himself being dead inside, hopeless and shattered. However, as he meets his sister and embrace her, he felt he has a small hope and a joy alive inside him. Being unaware of the the feeling being loved or cared for many years, he finds it hard to accommodate this joyous moment in his heart and wouldn't mind even dying peacefully in the same moment

FYI, the song "Abhi Mujh Mei Kahin" has been originally sung by Sonu Nigam himself. The lyrics are by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The composers are "Ajay & Atul". However, he has dedicated this song to his friend, another lyricist "Atul Jhingran" who suffered a massive heart attack and passed away.
As you mentioned " The way he sends those emotions to his listeners is nothing short of a miracle." I would add to that... Some songs you listen, some songs you hear but... There are some songs which you experience....even if you don't understand language. This was one of those songs....
I have heard a live concert of him in which he sang for 3 hours continuously. It was mesmerizing. You should also review some of the songs of Agam Kumar Nigam, Sonu Nigam's father. He is also a legend.

The song is describing hardship faced by a young boy since childhood till he becomes a grown up man, when suddenly he meets his lost family and lost little sister. This song tries to describe his feelings when he encounters such great happiness in rough life, he keeps asking himself should I live this moment or die to freeze timeline and make this the best moment of life he has experienced till now. Song keeps on explaining the emotion of relief that this event brings to him comparing it with a person under extreme sunshine for entire life finds shadow suddenly under a big dense tree again making him question should he continue to enjoy the moment or die out of joy.

Indian classical music is like a prayer. A true indian classical singer will always sound like he's praying coz it's a saadhna for them, it's spiritual. & "Calming the notes" is part of the classical training. All dualities are part of the classical training. But all non-dualities are also part of classical training because the music is a saadhna, like a prayer practice for them. Also, indians are great at putting together the instruments in the most melodious way, in a graceful way. It's the most melodious and tasteful and goes well with the whole piece. It's not overpowering. That just comes from being meditative about music as a culture and respectful as human beings towards it. There's depth to this music. & Indian musicians do solos when playing with each other. It's part of the culture, 'giving it' to the percussionist or another player coz each of them has the same equal respect within the culture.

Most songs in Bollywood are written, composed and sung by different people. The collaboration is what is interesting to us, and it also gives each artist to improve more on one skill...
Where you sing along the breathy words "Phuslaaane" and say you don't know the meaning. It literally means, to whisper. He sings in that breathy, airy sound several times, but you pointed it out when the words were meaning, 'whisper' 😇

One thing about Sonu Nigam is that all his stage performances are his original live voice not a background music playing continuously like other singers. Legend for a reason.🧡🧡🧡🧡
Dude, the variations in his singing you are pointing here comes with riyaz( practicing Indian classical raags and songs)..he has master his vocal by all this... definitely not by any neck movement and all, but all through his throat... Too much effort and dedication to music made him a living legend... ❤️

We can never feel essence of lyrics by literal translation but metaphor is a better way to connect because songs are roller coaster of emotions in itself This is holy trinity of singer, composer and lyrics
In the opening message Sonu Nigam says that the person who wrote and composed this song was one of his best friends and he has just died a month ago. it’s a tribute to his best friend. So now you can relate the lyrics to the composer who eventually died.

Ajay jhingan
The song Chalki Chalki Chandni Mein which Sonu sang in the beginning was written by Ajay Jhingran
As you mentioned " The way he sends those emotions to his listeners is nothing short of a miracle."
I would add to that...
This man deserves millions of subscribers.Your analysis is great .You earned a new subscriber.
Sonu besides a great singer is also a beautiful human being, proud of him as an Indian.
When bollywood music was ❤️
Now it's copy paste and zombies love it.
Seems to be happening all around the world...
U r right....now there are all remix of old melodies n 90 songs as well ...n that is total disaster of music....I always love to hear old song. In Indian young generation reaction when u love or hear old melody like u r out fashioned or old fashioned. But they like when those old melodies in rimix hip hop style...I hate it when new Singers destroy old melodies charm.. ..i also belongs to new generation n I love to hear best music not baseless music....
According to me he's the best singer in Bollywood. He just touches you the way he songs. So full of emotions. Really liked your reaction. And I so agree with what you said about being humble and down to earth in general ❤️

Then he started with Abhi Mujhme kahin !!
"In love with Sonu's voice and getting goosebumps".. well, no music lover can deny that for Sonu Nigam and especially this song. Have been his fan for 25 years( yes, that's how long he has been the best in Bollywood) but this song is something else. Not just goosebumps, it brings tears too
U found the legendary singer Sonu nigam... He is the best live performer in the world... It is my thinking 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Right
Sonu Nigam is half of my life grew up listening to him. He is the gem of India.
He is a legend.. No one could ever touch his level of perfection
May be Shreya Ghoshal... but his delivery has more dynamics.

This song is actually about getting love , like when you love someone and she loves you back ❤️❤️.
Hear him without any music. You definitely feel more goosebumps.
Dear Sonal
Very well said. Not thought like that before. Ur writing skill are amazing.

Sonu sonu sonu soooonuuuu to me his every song is lullaby.
My brother...u have found a living legend who has ruled bollywood singing....he is flawless and do not require auto tune like most singers do now
Most songs in Bollywood are written, composed and sung by different people.
Shows you just how good his interpretation is :) and word painting, nice
I have Listened this song more then 100 times, still on top of my playlist, the Lyrics & singing still gives me goosebumps & my heart start beating abnormaly, thats the magic of sonu nigam, He makes Lyrics living thing. Feel is just 1 part, he adds Something more to it. No words for his singing.
You found the gem of indian industry❣
It feels good when people from all over the world identifies the talent of Indian music
big fan of Sonu a very talented yet humble person.Glad to see Sonujee going global with this video. Perfect analysis of nuances! thanks
Sonu is a legend. His control over his voice is tremendous. His emotions are so real, they give life to the songs.
Sonu Nigam ❤️
One thing about Sonu Nigam is that all his stage performances are his original live voice not a background music playing continuously like other singers. Legend for a reason.🧡🧡🧡🧡
Dude, the variations in his singing you are pointing here comes with riyaz( practicing Indian classical raags and songs)..he has master his vocal by all this... definitely not by any neck movement and all, but all through his throat...
Too much effort and dedication to music made him a living legend... ❤️
i have heard him live and that too for more than 1 hour continuously. My soul thanked me later for that one hour ! :)
That's the quality of his voice....
He always sings from the bottom of his heart....
Singer who never uses autotune....
I saw a comment and absolutely agree with him,, sonu doesn't needs autotune, autotune needs him....
Oohhh thank you coach for this beautiful beautiful video and your reaction Sonu Nigam my favourite Indian artist and his breath taking voice and I love listening to this type of musics and those instruments it's a pleasent to listen to. Thank you.

Such a soulful performance 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your thought about being humble and not thinking that someone owns the world, felt really great. A lot of Indian singers have that quality no matter how popular they become. Great reaction.
Dude you caught the actual emotion of this song.. i really appreciate it 👏🏼
He Is Legend Of India 🙏🏻
I am so fortunate that i heard him sing this song live in a concert 🙏🏻
And i can't explain the public reaction after when he started to sing this song people were going Crazy/Emotional..
Trust me that was Pure Magical ❤️
Yes... sonu nigam is a born legend.. he can't be compared with anyone.. no one will ever come after him.. one of the kohinoor of India🇮🇳🇮🇳
We can never feel essence of lyrics by literal translation but metaphor is a better way to connect because songs are roller coaster of emotions in itself
This is holy trinity of singer, composer and lyrics
In the opening message Sonu Nigam says that the person who wrote and composed this song was one of his best friends and he has just died a month ago. it’s a tribute to his best friend. So now you can relate the lyrics to the composer who eventually died.
Hey man once do voice analysis of kishore kumar,he was one of all time legends of India.
