- Reaction To Joint Task Force 2 (Canada's Tier 1 Unit)
This is my reaction to Joint Task Force 2 (Canada's Tier 1 Unit)
In this video I react to the Canadian military by looking at the Canadian special forces unit JTF2
Original Video - • Joint Task Force 2: Ca...
As a Canadian Military Veteran of 17 years service, including but not limited to special forces work, I can wholeheartedly state we have some of the absolute best soldiers on planet earth.
Very proud of JTF2's accomplishments. As far as knowing anyone in the regiment. I suspect if any of us knew members of the JTF, we probably didn't know it - and if we did, we probably wouldn't advertise it. JTF2 is notorious for having very tight operational security, and with good reason - keeping its members anonymous keeps its members and their loved ones safe.
There are several ex-members on youtube now.
Nothing hush hush about that.
The US SOF excels because it's ex-members talk and share their experiences and attract the younger crowd to follow suit, Canadian SOF needs to allow more of that, so folks pursue these tip of the spear opportunities
@@1anre Key word in your sentence is "ex". The identity of all active JTF2 members is classified.
@@michaelhamm6805 that's simple logic.
Do you know any active duty SEAL or MARSOC Raider?
It's simply common sense
not quite right. JTF2 is a tier 1 counter terrorism. the secrecy is so severe because of the sensitive operations it conducts... JTF2 isn't what you think it is... they are only one part of CANSOFCOM....
@@1anre I believe one of our quiet heroes was interviewed by MrBallen or Team House.
I have worked with members of JTF 2 and what struck me was the high IQ and intelligence combined with innovation utilizing typical hardiness (toughness).
IIRC, 3 of the top 5 records for sniper shots are Canadian.
They had better be able to shoot, because they're not going to possess anything more powerful than a rifle....
@user-kq5ke5yb6k use your real username to spread your deceitful comments
Ya baby!👍
The prairie provinces of Canada have the highest per capital rate of snipers in the Canadian Forces. A bunch of farm kids from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba who grew up hunting on a very regular basis.
@@oilersridersbluejays so why was Bill C-21 instantiated to strip them of their tools of trade and method through which they survive on the land?
JTF2's existence was officially denied by the Canadian govt for some time after their formation .they are of course fairly secretive about what they do even now,as all such units are...but they were near mythical for a time.
they're one of the few with actual secrecy. Too easy to find out who is and was a Navy Seal, etc. But JTF-2 and SAS? Not so easy.
Mythical?
Canada having, e.g., 4 submarines is a myth. If they're all old and too leaky to deploy....
@@user-kq5ke5yb6k SOF is not the typical military. Not comparable in the slightest.
I believe it was because of a leak or an operation that the media got aware of and then suddenly the government said that the JTF2 was created. Wasn't it an incident involving the Princess Patricia?
@@user-kq5ke5yb6kHey now the subs in West Edmonton mall are in reality good shape or the one from WW2 sitting on a stand in Ontario, all operational 😂. Thankfully Canada is finally looking at Nuclear subs as replacements not 2nd hand diesels from South Korea. Canada out of the "4" subs from the U.K only one works and goes on patrol
The Dwyer Hill facility is about 10k from where I live. From time to time you'll see the guys outside doing some training. I din't realize they were JTF2. Very proud of all our military.
Dude next time you see them out there if possible tell them thank you from Calgary. Love, hugs and respect to these Men that try so hard to keep us safe from evil.
JTF2 (as far as I'm aware) is the only tier 1 unit with 0 operational casualties since it's establishment . I believe I training fatality it was.
The best trained tier 1 unit in existence.
@@philipschofield7105because it hasn't been revealed doesn't Mena it hasn't.
In the end we're all mortals
The JTF 2 has very, very high standards. While serving in the Canadian military I saw an order recruiting people, and they had the physical fitness requirements just to attend their pre course. There is no way I could have ever passed it at all! It is my understanding that about one person and 10 who applies to join the JTF to actually makes it through the training. They are very secretive though. Even being posted in the same area did not help with knowing what they were about. They do have an incredible reputation amongst the military in Canada. And that is on top of Canada's good reputation for our military generally.
One thing to remember about Canadians is we are born and bred wilderness folk, though more so in some parts than others. Making Canadians natural scouts and light infantry. Exactly the type of soldier that special forces like to recruit from.
In reality if you have a big enough pool of candidates you can usually find enough elite stock to build from. Canada simply has better odds of finding such persons. Training, planning, doctrine, and equipment are equally important factors compared to raw talent. Americans like their hero complex mentality, whereas Canadians take pride in our stubbornness.
Nothing breeds confidence like experience, your average Canadian has had to overcome harsh encounters with nature and hard work when nature is being harsh. Again stacking the odds for Canadians. Being more able too believe they can overcome a difficult task.
Behave...I lived in Canada and you Canadians are big on B.S!
Toronto??
@@dilipanthonypinto1620 what about Toronto?
I could be wrong but I do believe JTF2 has never lost a member in combat. They were so well regarded US special forces command would regularly request them to go missions over other allied units. There's probably more but everything is kept as quiet as possible.
Yes you are correct 💯
Sorry but wrong.🥺

@user-wy7hz3dj5z well then might want to check out Dallas Alexander former JTF2 sniper on the Shawn Ryan Show episode #047 time stamp 1:53:34. Just going off the word of an actual JTF2 member.
well if we dont know any of the members than itd be easy to claim that. I can see that being true in Afghanistan with the mountainous and open deserts and the 40 members sent possibly mostly being sniper units
@@redmist6630 so we shouldn't trust the word of a former JTF2 then?
Several things wrong with the original video...
First, the 3.5 km sniper shot wasn't in Syria but in the city of Mosul, northern Iraq. And the shot was more like 10 seconds, not 4 seconds. And not from a skyscraper but the Nineveh International Hotel instead.
Added bonus, there were several Canadian snipers at the time. Two teams, for a total of 4 snipers, that's two shooters and two spotters, fired simultaneously. So, nobody actually knows who got the kill. But it's very much a team effort so doesn't really matter. Dallas Alexander was on one of the teams.
More bonus, they were using these crazy light prisms which allows you to bend light and still see the target. That's why they could shoot so far. All kind of hush-hush at the time.
I still don't understand what these "prisms" for sniping are. How does bending light somehow help you shoot someone from far away?
@@Durzo1259I'll try and explain how it works. Usually what the snipers call a "prism" can be a bit of a misnomer...
From what I understand, the JTF2 snipers were using one of the early prototypes or models from TACOM HQ of the Charlie TARAC. Which is technically not a "prism" but a "periscope" instead.
It looks like a small box with two mirrors inside that have a 1.3-inch offset. Attached to the front of a normal scope it does wonders. When both mirrors are at 45-degrees and parallel to each other you see straight & level. As you adjust the bottom mirror you start to see the ground which means you have to elevate the barrel to see the target. And this is what you want for extremely long shots, more and more elevation of the barrel while still seeing the target.
I think the Charlie TARAC can be adjusted up to 300 mils? Which means the barrel can be elevated upwards of 15 to 20-degrees? And you still see the target. All of which is pretty crazy.
For anyone interested in more details, I suggest you search Google or RUclips for the "TACOM HQ Charlie TARAC". There's some pretty cool videos out there of what it looks like and how it all works. Hope this helped.
Canadian Armed Forces are currently in Jamaica training military personnel from different Carribbean countries who will then become a multi national security team, led by Kenya, in Haiti.
A "whopping" 70 personnel....
@@user-kq5ke5yb6k You have no idea how many people they are training. 70 is probably more than enough trainers.
Thats a good news they should talk about it more cuz didn't heard about it
Nah, Kenya stepped out.
Parliament didn't approve of policemen going overseas to die without any provisions for their family etc
@@1anre It's my understanding that the Kenyan President and the Haitian Prime Minister then signed a document to allow the deployment to move forward.
Mert, you should checkout Shawn Ryan's Dallas Alexander interview on what it was like being a JTF2 operator. He has clips and the full interview on RUclips that has been declassified and will give you a first hand account on what JTF2 selection, training and operations are like. Highly recommend it, it's very enlightening.
That interview was incredible
He's rare. There was alao depatie who came out some years earlier and maybe first JTF2 boy I learnt about
There's also Devin Larett the pro arm wrestler and direct action performance on youtube. Dallas was one of team that took that longest kill.
Didn't know he was an arm wrestler, I thought he was an ex-MMA wrestler.
@@aaronfilipowich3877
Totally agree about watching the interview with Dallas Alexander on Shawn Ryan's show. Kind of a must see for people who want to know more about JTF2.
And he actually goes into a fair amount of detail concerning that infamous sniper shot in Mosul.
Yes, Mert, they are comparable to the SAS; both exist within chronically underequipped, underfunded militaries (esp. JTF2).
Winder if that's part of the commonwealth swag and culture. Do more with less and then brag about it.
Unlike the Americans who give you excess of everything and expect higher performance from you too
JTF 2 a World Class unit...
Canada has always had the best foot soldiers in the world. Some may have better equipment, none have better skills.
Our special forces go to follow.
I really enjoy your videos about Canada... I was born in Saskatchewan but have lived in Calgary for the last 40 years.. I have a video recommendation for you. Look for a video that looks interesting to you on The Avro Arrow... Greatest fighter jet NEVER produced... big mistake by the Canadian Government. I think you'll enjoy the history with this subject! Keep up the great videos!
Yup the closest comparison is the SAS.... The jtf2 training included entering the most secure Canadian areas and it became a rite of passage for a long time for a squad member to make a sandwich in one particular kitchen.... This literally went on for a number of years until a brand new kitchen staffer did inventory after jtf2 had gone through the building and realized that they were missing sandwich meats... They rolled the camera back and realized that jtf2 had rolled through the building..
No alarms had been tripped, no motion sensors had been tripped, absolutely nothing. That got the building Commander or head honcho that looked after that building to go through security footage and they found out that jtf2 had been punking their building for years. Every couple of months they would roll through and somebody would make a sandwich.
Erm, no. 😂
@@DirtyMikeandTheBoys69ERM, yes? the story was told to me by a staffer of that said building. So I can't verify if the story is true or not but it came from somebody who was in that structure.
@Ray-Koto-McLellan I hate to be that guy, but you got your chain pulled. I've seen so many "I was told by a staffer" stories. You'd think there are a million of them! All one needs to do is look up Operation Nanook, and you'll see they couldn't even conduct a proper VBSS correctly, something non-SF does all of the time.
@Ray-Koto-McLellan I've run into so many "I knew a guy who was told XYZ," You'd think there were a million staffers running around.
Some of the top long range kills have been JTF2 snipers.
The furthest ever. Over 3km I think
I think that has been beaten recently but still an incredible achievement. For both the current record holder and the runners-up. @@Da3mic
It hasn’t been beaten
Late last year, some fighters in the east said they beat the record
Buddy talks about setting the record on Sean Ryan podcast... they actually broke record multiple times according to the account given there
one unique thing about the unit is they are trained for winter conditions everything is white including uniforms etc.
Well for winter operations. Like the video said, standard uniform includes a brown beret. Really the only thing unique about winter camo is that a nation is willing to invest in secondary outfits. JTF2 trains for winter and gets winter camo. But so does PPCLI our main light infantry force in the most wintery prairie provinces. I don't think they get issued winter camo, GCA probably doesn't want to buy that stuff for regulars unless they are sure it will be needed.
Funding funding funding.
You’ll never hear about them, but they can stand with anyone for sure
Friends of mine from the states trained with them, so they were amazing
My step son,..
Arm Wrestling World Champion Devon Larratt is a 20 year veteran in the CAF. I believe he spent 10 years in JTF2. He told a few crazy stories on his channel. I think you have to become a member to hear them. It's only $5 for a month. He's a fascinating guy.
You should also add the Kiwis to that list.
Yeah kiwis are usually good sports, they don't deserve to get forgotten just because they are so small
There is a Podcast Dallas Alexander former JTF2 talks about the 10 month selection procces
I don't why the original video included this, but the helicopter at the 8:39 mark is a CH-149 Cormorant , and it's sole purpose in the Canadian Armed Forces is a Search and Rescue platform. The colouration of the aircraft gives it away. The guy on the wire is a SARTech (Search and Rescue Technician), who is a paramedic+ . More trained than any ambulance medic. The other person you see in the video is the loadmaster, and he is wearing an orange survival suit in case of water dunking.
That's most of what the CAF does and is equipped to do nowadays -- search, pit out fores fires, empty bed pans....
Equivalent of a US PJ
@@user-kq5ke5yb6k GETTING DUMBER BY THE SECOND
We r the best in the world for training that’s why others ask us to help them train and from being in the army reserves but now retired. I am a very proud Canadian and proud of our military
How do you train people to use equipment/assets which Canada has never possessed? (LOL)
@@user-kq5ke5yb6k THE IDIOT IS BACK
there is a old saying that I believe came from a British leader, "Give me a German Officer, with Canadian soilders and American equipment and there is no objective I could not accomplish"
Why a German officer though, what did they have?
And what era of combat was this, WW2 or GWOT?
WW2
"If I had Canadian Soldiers, American technology and British officers I would rule the world." - Winston Churchill - I believe this is the quote you're referring to, I quite like it. Fun tidbit for the day: According to some (admittedly brief) digging, this quote has no discernable source, and might not actually be a Churchill quote.
To answer the question, what makes the JTF2 special and is the JTF2 comparable to other countries specops: Canadians are tougher and more adaptable then most other nations. (I may have a bias because I am Canadian but that also means I have first hand experience) Canadians are tough as hell and we have an instinct for cooperation. Our dynamic weather patterns over generations is the main factor in that. We go through some of the coldest winters and very temperate summers. We learn fast to adapt to that and to work together to overcome the struggles in the winters... I think that's why most of the world sees us as "nice" but just look at the WWII exploits, when we go to war we don't hold back and we fight with everything we have and we fight dirty. There's so many other factors I could get into but Canadians are strong and resilient, and when we come together and we are determined then we will use everything at our disposal to get the job done.
your right about fighting dirty, when my dad was a kid in Belgium, he saw the Canadians come in to liberate where he was, he told me they had tanks with live Germans tied to them and they were going through barbed wire and houses
@@John-kr7izare you sure that happened?
@@danglingondivineladders3994 thats what my dad told me anyways
@@John-kr7iz Considering there's quite a bit of the Geneva Convention written from warcrimes committed by Canadian soldiers in the world wars... I am more incline to believe this... as a Canadian myself.
As the Canadian Military goes, it has always been known to be one of the best trained armies in the world. We may not have top tier equipment like the US or UK, the Canadian soldiers make up for it in some of the best tactical training in the world. Because of this Canada is often called upon by other countries to assist in the training of their armed forces. An officer in the US Special Forces was quoted as saying, "If I had to go into combat, I would prefer to have JTF2 by my side!" That says it all!
JTF2 does have top tier equipment, regular army and navy doesn’t.
Had the worlds longest sniper kill but because of Trudys coof policy they fired the guy for not getting the jab.. he was on Shawn Ryan's podcast
Canada's best line of defence is diplomacy. It does not bully other countries, it tries to reach compromise. That mindset seems to be carried through the military. They do what needs to be done, in the least harmful and quietest way possible. Both at home and abroad, they just don't have the same apparent need to swagger as the US and UK do. Nor do they feel the need to subjugate in nations they have "conquered". Part of that is national attitude, and undoubtedly part is required due to logistics. If you have a relatively small army, you need to use them intelligently
Thats not how JTF2 operates at all. They are known for being quiet, not because of stealth but from leaving no survivors to tell the tale and no trace of where they went from there. The US and UK complained to the Canadian government during the Afghanistan war that they were killing the Taliban leadership too fast and not taking prisioners for interrogation. If the SEALS are a scalpel then JTF2 is a lazer beam. Precise and deadly to any target in their path.
Is that why Canadians are loved worldwide ?
@@1anre I don’t know that we are, but there seem to be far fewer countries that have any perceivable animosity towards us, for wars, invasions or aggressive foreign policies. Many people around the world also have friends or relatives that have moved here.

Devon Larratt served in JTF2, he is also a famious arm wrestler
Canada didn't know they had a Tier 1 Unit until President George W Bush thanked them during a press conference for the snipers taking out all the commanders in the Taliban and covering American forces The Prime Minister was caught off guard as even he didn't know they existed and he told the Canadian public time after time that there were no Canadians in Afghanistan or Iraq at the time only to find out JTF2 were the 1st Canadians on the ground and on day 1 of the Afghan war and took part in operation K,-Bar , the commander of that mission has said on record and in his book that when he needed Intel and captives he'd send JTF2, if he needed to blow something up he sent seal team 6, he explained it as sometimes you need a scalpel and sometimes you need a sledgehammer 😂. JTF2 has more confirmed terrorist kills than all other Tier one units combined yet not much is known about them and most of what we know as Canadians has come from American sources, U.S General's keep telling their Canadian counterparts to brag and let the country know some things because the unit is 2nd to none, they've become a point of pride for Canadians and it's why you'll see some videos for recruiting but there has yet to be a confirmed in detail story about them, they hold 4 or 5 of the longest confirmed kills and 3 of the top 5. Stay blessed 👊🏼

Dude no worries if the U.K., Canada, The U.S.A., and Australia decided to send all the units you mentioned the question is not can our opponents compete but more a question of which opponent they will liberate first. If the politicians let these units do as they deemed necessary we could very quickly ( a matter of days) once operations are initiated, see the conclusion of the wars on crime, drugs, and terrorists) Just to give a hollywood weird comparison anyone of the members of our JTF2 or members of any other special forces group mentioned could kick the behind of John Wick then teach him quantum mechanics, law and basic emergency medicine. Canadian snipers are famous for long range shooting and many of their best ear in the JTF2.
The movie Tears of the sun, with Monica Belluci and Bruce Willis as a Navy Seal Officer is based on a JTF2 mission in Columbia.
The Canadian government never acknowledged the existence of the JTF2 for a number of years after they were formed. It was a top secret unit from the top down, where even most members of parliament were unware of this special forces unit. Even today all members of the unit are filed as top secret.
Funny fact, Devon Larratt is retired from JTF and has been an ambassador of the arm wrestling sport for years now. Who would have guessed he has one of the best endurance and stamina... ;)

As a Canadian it’s sad to see our military so under funded.
After WW2 we had over 1,000,000 members and a very capable military. One of the biggest navy’s, one of the biggest air forces.
Sad to see how under funded they are now.
One thing that bothers me about this is that all of my Grandparents, Grand Uncles, Dad and Uncles, Sister and I volunteered and served in WW1, WW2 and the 60's and early 70's. They didn't brag like this younger generation...they were bold and cautius.
I know someone in JTF2... I'm a good hand to hand fighter, but he's over the top! He's seen a LOT of combat, but he can't talk about it... much. Everyone seems to think that Canadians are too nice. I can assure you that JTF2 are not 'nice'... they do the things that no one else in our country wants to do.
JTF2 HAS THREE OF THE WORLDS LONGEST CONFIRMED KILL SNIPER RECORDS...OUT OF THE TOP 10 THEY HOLD THREE SPOTS 1,2 AND 5TH LONGEST.. (Ukrainian records not included)

First rule of JTF2: we dont talk about JTF2
Even we as Canadians have no idea the extent to which the JTF2 is capable. We simply know they are a world force unto themselves, never to be underestimated. This is what happens when you take the brightest, smartest, and fastest soldiers and pool them into a group with unparalleled training, equipment, and leeway to get the job done as they see fit. The outcome is inevitably total annihilation of anything that stands in their way.
The fact that this jtf2 makes you wonder about jtf1

What I was told once, is if the US wants something done quietly, they call JTF2, if they want it loud, they call Seal team 6...
I worked with them on a long tasking
Very switched on dudes
JTF2, SAS amd the Seals train together all the time, we operate with our allies very close......
They've completed 100 percent of missions never lost a man in combat have in training an in Afghanistan us general said was his goto for hard missions i very proud of invisible few they are very secretive in what an who for good reason
It’s called JTF2 because it was compromised when it was called JTF1.
Not sure why this required a name changed.
Happened when they were monitoring smuggling across border between Canada and the US.
While serving with Task Force K-Bar, Vice Admiral Robert Harward, a US Navy SEAL, stated that the JTF2 team under his command was his first choice for any direct action.
It started with the disbandment of the airborne regiment after all the allegations in somalia. Anyway they took the guys who werent mentally deranged lol and formed the jtf2 which they thought sounded cool. These guys are the real deal ive known two of them and one of the guys i was with who was a machine failed selection because of stress cracks in his legs lol.
I remember the Oka crisis what a joke that was in regards to what the army did
Basically to get asked to join the JTF2 you have to prove that you have multiple special skills, hard iron will. And to put this out there if the JTF2 had half of the equipment and budget that Anerican forces had they would be the world's most dangerous special forces ever
As a Canadian our military makes due with what they have ...our government sucks but at the same time we are very well respected..big compliments
If I'm not mistaken JTF2 is one of the first that arrived in Afghanistan. Not sure if it was the Russian intelligence is the first to set the foot on Afghan land or JTF2.

Tears of the sun was based on a JTF2 op in Columbia some years ago. It was adapted to use seals as the characters. They are tier 1 and operate with 5 eyes members. Very low key and no publicity unlike some other tier 1 special forces. They operated in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They are not the only ones wearing a tan barret
I've worked with multiple countries the US, Brits, French, Poland, German and more... Canadian and brits are the best soldiers, not saying that because I'm a Canadian. And I tab out on the USA sapper course, and that course was a walk through compared to hell week
Good try though brother!
The US, UK and Australian special forces were found to be committing acts of murder in Afghanistan. The JTF2 need to be investigated to maintain their honour. They had discipline problems at the Dwyer Hill base before and during the Canadian employment to Afghanistan.
Not mite be the best in the world but are unequalled. Extremely intelligent and goal oriented.
Our JTF2 could take any special forces including the SEALs. Like they said though, Our men and women don't have to brag. They just prove it when they show up on the job instead.
The Tan beret is NOT exclusive to JTF2...it is worn by all members of CSOR - the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, which is separate from JTF2. They are called Joint Task Force Two because they replaced the initial Joint Task Force (JTF) which was Royal Canadian Mounted Police tasked with anti-terrorist response to the Ottawa area and the many foreign embassy's in the capital. The RCMP wanted out of that business, so the government handed that mission off the the Canadian Forces, and they created JTF-2 to replace the RCMP, taking over the RCMP training facility at Dwyer Hill, and expanding not only the facility, but the mandate.
it is worn by all CANSOFs military personnel, not just JTF2 and CSOR
Some time back the JTF2 came 3rd, first of all western nations , in an anti-terrorist competition when the Government was contacted for a comment the response was more or less never heard of them even though everyone knows who they are
They get different assignments like guarding the prime minister.
Only out of country though. While in country it's the RCMP
@@Friendlygiant666 The RCMP guard the PM in and out of Canada. When he is out of Canada, the host nation is responsible to protect the PM with armed body guards in conjunction with the RCMP. The only time JTF-2 would get involved would be if the PM was in a very high threat environment...like visiting our troops in a war zone.
Do Maurice Ruddick Springhill Nova Scotia I like your Channel❤
I met a current military member who was friends with a JTF2 member…… that is all he was allow to say.
CSOR is another elite regiment
Hell yeah PPCLI.
As a Canadian I'm shocked the jtf2 can still get funding and operate
They had to meet their transgender quota and carry tampons abroad to meet the DEI quota....Sunny Ways...
The only thing i know about jtf2 is that they had a sniper that broke a world record for the longest shot in 2017. There's footage of the shot if you look it up online. There's suppose to be another shot ever farther than that recorded by an Ukrainian soldier but there's no footage or proof of his accomplishment.
JTF2 members are classified
You never hear about the jtf2 or anything about Australia that's what makes us different
If I tell you what I think ... Let me just say... Ooo Look butterfly...
Check out “Why Toronto is decently well designed”
I had a friend tht was in Afghanistan and he told me quite a few US forces asked for in advance for Canadian snipers to do overwatch for alot of their missions...No idea if it's true but why would he make a story up like tht
