  • Truck and trailer combined weighed nearly 10,000 pounds. It was a little slow, but it handled this for 1,000 miles like a champ at 70-75 mph.

    I loved my little 4.3 in my silverado. It did good. I used to tow 3 atvs on 1 trailer and it did it. But now I tow frequently through West Virginia Hills and Ohio mountains. It did it. Didn't like it. So I opted out for a 2500 6.0 and man a difference. I still miss my ol 4.3. Best truck I've ever owned.

    Nice to see someone else with a 99-07 with the 5 speed and 4.3 as well. Mine's an 07 regular cab short bed 4x4 with the good ole 4.3 and the same 5 speed. I pulled about 6000lbs for roughly 150 miles a few months back. Taking off was a a stretch but once it was moving I had no issues even with the A/C on.

      @Two_Wheel_Deel  6 лет назад +7

      Cool! Mine is also a regular cab short bed, but mine is a 2005. It was challenging to find a 5 speed with 4x4, but definitely worth it...this truck is one of my all time favorite vehicles. Mine was also slow to get up to speed (as you saw) but it held interstate speeds no problem, didn't get hot at all, and didn't burn any oil. Very happy with how it performed.

    My first truck had the 4.3 vortec. And as a teenager you already know what hell that son bitch went through. And it was still a good runnning engine when i got rid of it. It was 6 thousand mile oil changes and pedal in the floor all the time and after those 4 years of hell she still pured like a kitten and had good oil pressure. Nothing bad to say about em ever.

    I finally got to tow with my 4.3 gmc 2006. I believe total weight was 4,200 lbs going up the grapevines( California) I was pretty happy that it towed it, not the fastest but it did it going 40-50mph.

    • @Two_Wheel_Deel
      @Two_Wheel_Deel  6 лет назад +3

      Yeah, I searched long and hard to find a '99+ Silverado with the 5 speed and 4x4 in decent condition, but it was worth it...I love this truck. It ran interstate speeds in 5th 90-95% of the time, but if there was even the slightest uphill grade I had to go to 4th to maintain 70-75 mph. I only had to go to 3rd once on a really steep hill between Roanoke and Christiansburg, VA.

      It normally gets 18-20, and it got 14-15 with that trailer, and about 11 once I started getting into the mountainous areas. Not great, but considering how hard the little motor was working I guess it really wasn't too bad.
